Authentic, fresh food; smiling, supportive staff; and an unpretentious atmosphere that gives you confidence in the quality of the food before you've even take your first bite. I'd recommend to my drunk uncle and to the Pope - they might find some common ground over a number 26. There are so few places like this remaining in NYC! Venues that prioritize quality and cultural preservation rather than succumbing to the capitalist appeal of shitty, highly processed, cheap ingredients. Preemptively consider me a regular. The only bad thing about this place is they ONLY accept CASH! Other than that, everything else is pretty good with their panini sandwiches that are extremely big! Today, I got a PISILLO panini with ciabatta bread and it was so damn big! I had half of it for lunch and the other half will be saved for my dinner! This panini was just too long and big. I had to open my mouth really wide to take bites out of the big panini and it was annoying. It tasted good though! I love the balsamic dressing, arugula, tomatoes, and bufula mozz cheese the most out of the whole sandwich! The dressing made it really good and soften the ciabatta bread for easier chewing. My poor mouth and teeth! The whole panini cost $22.21 including tax in cash. There was an atm machine by the entrance in case you don't have cash. The whole place was very cozy and tight knit chairs and tables on both sides of the restaurant. The staff was very fast and I got my panini in not time. I did not have to wait that long. I was just amazed at the size of the ciabatta bread. They had many different types of bread that I can try next time like the focaccia, sfilatino, and semolina bread that looked really good behind the display glass. Ordered a sandwich for takeout. The line was long during the middle of the work day, but it moved quickly. It's a small place, but there's some seating if you want to eat in. It's cash only, but you can also order online for pickup through their website and pay with credit card for a slightly higher price. They have a lot of interesting combinations and bread choices. I selected the #30 Ariccia Panini (on semolina bread for $1.25 extra). The sandwich was hefty, packed with flavor, and very filling. The porchetta went well with the marinated artichoke hearts, provolone cheese, arugula, and truffle oil. I could only eat half of the sandwich in one sitting, saving the other half for another meal. Pisillo on Semolina: Decided on the eponymous sandwich. There was imported prosciutto and house made porchetta, so a really nice combo. Both are porky deliciousness, but in different ways. The porchetta was sliced super thin and had a nice herbal taste. I'm normally not an arugula fan, but the bitterness did a good job cutting the richness of the meat. We seemed to be having an Italian sandwich week, so heading downtown to try Pisillo felt mandatory. After passing by the horde of tourists lining up for Joe's on Fulton, we pulled up in front of a charming sandwich spot that feels like one that you'd find in Naples. In we went. Inside was wall to wall Italy. You really get a sense that the couple who own Pisillo are welcoming you into their kitchen. On to the food. I'm not sure that you could go wrong here. The menu has over thirty combination, each sounds equal to, or better than the last one. Looking around at customers filling up the restaurants four or five tables, everything looked amazing. Since it was our fist time here, we went for #26 The Pisillo which had Prosciutto Di Parmo, Porchetta, Bufola Mozz, Roasted Peppers, Arugula, and Balsamic Dressing. I asked for suggestions when asked what bread I wanted, figuring that they would steer me in the right direction, and was recommended a Semolina hero. Nice choice! The bread was fresh, the meats were sliced super thin, the cheese was substantial. The other ingredients were perfectly complimentary. Flavors existing in harmony, just like a great sandwich should. Size-wise, it was not quite as big as The Bomb out in Astoria, but much bigger than most other spots. You really get your money's worth here in terms of value and taste. The workers were super friendly and very helpful too. We'll definitely be coming back to try some other sandwiches soon! read more

I ordered #26, pisillo panini and my jaw almost dropped when they handed me the monster of a sandwich. The sandwich had a generous portion of prosciutto and porchetta with a nice slab of mozarella. The roasted peppers, arugula, and balsamic dressing helped balance everything. I scarfed down half and was quite satisfied (and also excited about having lunch for the next day). I wasn't sure what to order, but I ended up ordering the Milano (salami, smoked mozzarella, artichokes, roasted peppers). I wasn't a fan. There were two many artichokes and roasted peppers, the cheese was a little too stinky, the meat was greasy, and the bread was hard. Solid hole in the wall sandwich joint! I was meeting a friend in FiDi for lunch, so we grabbed a sub to split in the nearby park. It's very small (only a few tables) and it is cash only just fyi! Wow, likely the biggest sandwich I'd ever had. Pictures do not do it justice, this thing was at least a foot long and weighed like a small baby. We split the pisillo panini on semolina bread and were stuffed from eating just one half each. Quality ingredients, I believe they import most from Italy. Mozzarella was so fresh and tasty, the bread had a nice chew. This sandwich shop makes some damn good heroes. Tried two different sandwiches for lunch on different days. Tried the #29 Positano Panini and #26 Pisilo Panini. Out of the two would prefer the Positano Panini. Man the sandwich is big really big. Couldn't finish it in one sitting. Needed to take half home for lunch the next day. My cousin recommended that we go here for a sandwich while traveling in New York. He eats here once a week and swears they have the best sandwiches around. We walked from midtown to the financial district and found it tucked away on a side road. You would absolutely miss it if you didn't know where you were going. It's really cute inside, but very tiny. It's cash only but if you don't have cash, you can order online and just pick it up. I ordered the Napoli sandwich which had prosciutto, Buffalo, mozzarella, arugula, and olive oil on it. We originally thought there might be some hot sandwich options (given the name) but it doesn't look like there's any sort of heating elements in the store. The bread is untoasted & comes as is for the sandwiches. I ordered the #31 (Montesarchio) which comes with prosciutto di parma, fresh mozzarella, roasted peppers, arugula, and balsamic dressing. I can say as a Brooklynite, without exaggeration, that this is currently my favorite place to eat food from in NYC. I used to work in this neighborhood, and now that I don't, I still think about these sandwiches at least once a week. I'm not going to claim you'll leave feeling as strongly as I do, but I do believe that if you like Italian sandwiches, you'll be highly satisfied by this place. You can't really go wrong with whatever option you go for. My favorite is the Ariccia, but I've tried six or seven of these sandwiches and loved all of them. You're safe to go for whatever you think sounds tastiest to you on the menu. These sandwiches are also big. As someone whose stomach has been called a bottomless pit, eating a full sandwich at a time is doable, but I highly recommend splitting it between two meals or sharing it with someone. The retail space is cozy so plan to order ahead and take out, though be aware that if you don't pay cash at the counter you'll be charged a convenience fee. Both the chicken sandwiches as well as the various Italian cold cuts are tasty; on my most recent visit had a salami sandwich with (very) fresh mozzarella, and was able to choose whole wheat bread as an alternative option at no charge. Other than the hefty markup for credit card ordering, about the only small complaint i would have is the whole wheat bread is slightly on the dry side and the meat is salty. Portions are generous also; strongly recommend if you want to get a taste of real Italian downtown without going to Little Italy. read more

Pisillo Italian Panini is a place I learned about when we worked in offices and a colleague mentioned Pisillo in glowing terms which were confirmed when I saw what he would bring back to the office. So I started visiting Pisillo often and, back then, it had a bakery next door that is no longer there. So naturally I could not pass up the opportunity when I was down in the Financial and Pisillos was calling my name... loudly. It's one of those places that reminds me of prepandemic days and they still cut no corners. I orderrd the Pisillo sandwich on very good ciabatta bread, which is a perfect pairing. It is still a hefty sandwich that "has the meats:" prosciutto and porchetta, with fresh Bufala mozz. You taste the freshness in everything, with the arugula and roasted red peppers. The only aspect they were a little short on was the balsamic dressing, but the memories returned to my palate. It's so substantial, that I cut it into quarters along its length; though, I have not found anything that beats Sal, Kris & Charlie's in Astoria. If you know of a better spot, please let me know, but, while in Manhattan, Pisillos is a great bet. Goes well with plantain chips and two could share one of these sandwiches or you could have it for lunch twice. All their sandwiches come in under $20, so it's easy to find good value at Pisillos. I have ordered many of them in the past and you can order the full range of offerings with confidence here. The New York with roasted chicken is not to be overlooked and very satisfying, as is everything I have ordered here. They are consistently good and, even after the hiatus, it's still just as good, which cannot be said for everything. A solid four stars! read more

This must be one of the top sandwich spots in NYC. The little, very authentic Italian sandwich shop is not to be missed. (This one is their flagship.) The staff is super nice, always welcome you to the counter with a big smile. I finally tried a Pisillo Italian sandwich and am so glad I did! The hole in the wall has been around since 2013 and has a good amount of regulars. I tried the signature and most popular sandwich, the Pisillo. The sandwich comes with prosciutto di parma, porchetta, bufala mozz, roasted peppers, and arugula, topped with balsamic dressing. What I didn't expect was how big it'd be! Easily a footlong. It came out to about $17 plus tax. I added the cannolis, $3.50 each, for a total bill of $23. The sandwich was good, but the cannolis were delish!!!! The manager mentioned that they came straight from Sicily. Speaking of the manager, Antonio was so welcoming, hospitable and warm. The whole team was! He's done a great job creating a space that feels like a piece of Italy. From the music (Italian pop), food, and history posted on the walls about Pisillo's Italian origin, it was such a pleasant experience.
