Really good! Stopped in yesterday at an odd time - around 4pm - to order early dinner take-out. We were hoping to try the masala fries - but they didn't have any fries. So, we ordered the Channa Papree as the appetizer. Dinner choices were the chicken tikka masala bowl and the chicken bowl...both are served with salads. We were told that it takes about 25 minutes to prepare the tikka masala (in case we didn't have the time to wait). We did! It was Saturday and we grabbed a strawberry lassi to enjoy while we waited. There is a nice seating area near the entrance so we hung out in the big armchairs. The lassi was good; it could have been blended more as most lassi concoctions that I've had are very creamy with just the right amount of yogurt tang....this one was "ice-chunky". But it was still tasty. As promised, the meals were ready to go in about 25 minutes. They traveled well and were still hot when we got home. I really enjoyed the channa appetizer; lots of different flavor layers throughout with just a subtle hint of spice. I tasted the chicken tikka masala; well spiced cubed chicken over basmati rice (same rice that I had with my chicken bowl). Some of the chicken pieces were really big and the portion was definitely generous. My sliced chicken was also really good - different flavor profile from the tikka. Since the salad is served in the same container, it gets pretty warm....but it saves having a separate to-go box for a small salad. They also have an entire rolled ice cream selection - plus chai-inspired hot drinks and other desserts available. I wanted to try the naan and asked if we could order a side of it. Unfortunately, they still considered it "lunch" time and couldn't sell me a piece or two of naan. I found that a little weird, but I chalk it up to being a fairly new business. Plus, the girls that were working in the front - I'm guessing - are not related to the owners. Friendly and competent enough, but always embrace an opportunity to upsell! The chai is their specialty (I had the regular and Kashmiri chai) and the potato paratha was exactly how I wanted it to be! It's fine. Just fine. It's not bad. It's not amazing. The food is made to order. I guess it's OK. The place is weirdly lit. There are semi-comfortable chairs around utilitarian tables. They're fine. I suppose you could take kids here. You order at the counter, pay first, and then go find a place to sit. In about 15-20 minutes they bring your food to the table. The drinks (Gatorade, iced tea) are in a cooler next to the register. They ask for the tip before they bring your food, and no one checks on you to see if you need anything or if you liked it. It's fine though. Just fine. You can leave your plate on the table when you leave. It's like a takeout place but they let you eat it inside if you're so inclined. The rice tasted and had the consistency of clumpy Uncle Ben's 90-second bag rice. It's fine. Just fine. The chicken in the butter chicken dinner was over cooked and dry, but not bad. The sauce was delicious but the rest of the dish..... meh. It's fine. Just fine. It's not expensive: $12-16 for a dish of food. Here's the deal: go here. You will not be amazed at the quality, the service, the ambience, the decor, the staff.... But DO try it. You might say "Turns out I kinda like Glens Falls' boring interpretation of Indian food". Their cheese naan was stale and had barely a scraping of cream cheese in it - which is not as it was advertised on the menu. The garlic naan was also stale and had no flavor. I was a big fan of Alif Cafe when it opened and frequented it numerous times, always bringing friends and family. The owner greeted us and the food was unique, consistent and flavorful - a real breath of fresh air for Glens Falls. Sometime this year - 2023 - the menu changed. I don't know when or why because the owner was not present and the staff didn't know anything. My wife and I ate in off of the new scaled down menu and were underwhelmed. The food was fair, with little flavor and portions were quite small. Still, we kept the faith and in July we placed a very large to go order for a special occasion. I'm sorry to report that the food received by our party of 10 was received poorly by all. Falafel were like cardboard, barely edible, and the best of the dishes - the Palak Paneer - was bland and watery, mostly rice with very little spinach. I don't know what happened here, but it's extremely disappointing and for Glens Falls, a real missed opportunity. read more

Great espresso! Had it on 2 occasions when I was here vacationing. First day the espresso was 5 star second day 4 star. Still very good but not as much flavor, could have been a variation in the process but overall delicious and the customer service was great. They also have hand rolled ice cream! A definite must try. Recently had lunch at the Glens Falls location. It was alright. Took about fifteen minutes to be prepared despite being the only customer. I ordered the Chicken bowl and I was a little disappointed by the price. It came out to about 14 dollars for some dry spiced chicken, white rice, and iceberg lettuce salad. To be honest, you could cook that as an entire meal for a family with that price. Doesn't do much for the "streetfood" schtick when you're charging that. I'm glad this place is here in Glens Falls, but I think they should consider lowering the prices. Maybe adding some nice fresh veggies and a sauce on top. read more

Good but not worth the wait. I came in here and there were only two people ahead of me, but it took 15 minutes before I was even asked for my order. I got the mocha wali iced and it was just ok - there wasn't enough ice in it so it was more like a room temperature latte. The staff was really nice, just seemingly too preoccupied. I watched one of the kids pour heavy cream into what I think was an ice cream maker for about 10 minutes while I stood there waiting for my order to be taken. Pleasantly surprised to stumble upon this pakistani based cafe right next to lake George. The owner was very humble, and had set up the place in the cutest way possible- decorating with the Pakistani flag and traditional music playing. They have a rolled ice cream counter, and stuffed paratha (fries flatbread) counter. But the one attracting us the most was obviously the chai- the masala chai was the best one could ask for the area- pretty close to home actually. I'm visiting family and they always go out of their way to find places with vegan options for me- I was pleasantly surprised with Alif Cafe! First of all, the moment you walk inside it smells absolutely delicious in there. It's a wonderful little restaurant/cafe with games available for patrons, and the people working there are so so nice. They were helpful with my questions about what was vegan or not, and my parents and I thoroughly enjoyed our meals. The chef even went out of his way to create a little personalized vegan dessert for me since my folks got ice cream and I didn't think I'd have an option for my sweet tooth lol. Unfortunately, it was subpar-- the masala chai tasted like normal black tea with milk. The samosa chaat was not anything like what samosa chaat is supposed to be like. We had the chicken Marsala and Butter chicken bowls, which were both underseasoned and served over cold rice. The naan was served cold, which just makes it a hard tasteless bread. The plus side of the meal was the chicken was very tender and the salad was excellent. My chai was also not full of spices. The rolled strawberry ice cream was a hit. We were the only customers there and yet there were a few tables that had not been bussed and the floors needed a good brushing. If you like ice cream and have never tried rolled ice cream from Alif Cafe, run, don't walk to get yourself some. I'm telling you it is an ethereal experience!!! Totally different than a big scoop of creamy ice cream that you're used to, but tastes better and more pure than anything you can buy at a store. Try vanilla/strawberry with coconut and/or Nutella. To die for. Big huge serving and takes a bit to make it but you can watch while it's made. They pour the fresh creamy mixture right on the large silver platter frozen cold with liquid nitrogen. Mix it all up in front of your eyes. Yes, it really is rolled up in the end, and looks nothing like what you are used to for ice cream, but after that first bite you'll be instantly transported to heaven. The food here is good too, but just had the ice cream today, so that's my focus. I will say the service is slow, mostly because everything is made to order, but truly worth the wait. read more
