I love it when an unassuming place does something out of character right! I've been to Alkemy before for its dark chocolate ice cream. Service is usually quick and friendly. And the ice cream I got had a good chocolate taste to it, even with the novelty of nitrogen. The sipping chocolate however? God tier. Supreme. Its so luxurious and at the same time, not too sweet! You get this wonderfully bitter chocolate taste that's not overwhelming but still manages to warm your insides. We pulled up when they opened at 6pm (and even got a front parking spot, yay!) and were the first customers in yesterday! The staff was friendly and helpful (this was our first time). When you enter, this is a small spot with a few tables, and large tanks for the liquid nitrogen, which made us very curious! You pick your dessert, whether shakes or a sundae and they create it right on front of you. The mixers start spinning and the liquid nitrogen is released (make sure to have those cameras ready!). I've been here a few times over the years. It was never like this. It went from great to trash. The girl who was supposed to be taking orders made me feel like I never want to come back. She was lazy,rude and very unprofessional. Left her crew hanging to do all the hard work while she chit chats with her friend all while there's a busy line. Not to mention her friend cut the line and after ordering decided to talk with her for another 5 mins. To make matters worse she got our order wrong after asking us several times to confirm and then promising to make sure it was right. Unbelievably incompetent and disgraceful with a fake pleasant personality. It was obvious she was trying to stall and delay so she could avoid doing anything all while letting the 2 boys struggle with all the orders coming in. The frustration was obvious with her co-workers. She also turned several customers away saying there was a 25-35 minute wait and that they had to take care of their uber orders first. How unprofessional!!! She told one family "we close at 9" when it was only 8:30!! I hope the owners read this and see what they are working with. This was Sunday night 8/2 at 8:30pm. I would say this spot is very tasty and innovative, but definitely on the pricier side and takes quite awhile to get your order. If you order more than one item you won't receive them at the same time. However, the taste of the vegan flavors were very good. Creamy and flavorful. Alkemy is totally worth the hype. I thought the liquid nitrogen was going to be a total gimmick, but once that freshly made ice cream hit my lips, I knew I was wrong. I had the matcha green tea special, and it was incredible! The matcha was subtly sweet, and tasted so fresh after having been created literally in front of me. Going from liquid ingredients to a fresh scoop of ice cream really made it taste amazing. As if that wasn't enough, the waffle under the ice cream was perfect - warm, with a crispy outside and a chewy inside. The combination of flavors and textures was excellent. I ask, by the way, do you know if there is High Fructose in the icecream? The server checked. What I thought I heard was that their products have this in their processing. The milk shake was not really worth it as they liked more of a thicker consistency. The flavor was cookies n cream, but there wasn't much cookies in it. It cost $13, the cookies n cream were an additional $2 to the base cost of $11. The cost of these are a little pricier than what I would normally pay for ice cream. I may come back to have a waffle ice cream myself as that one was the most worth it. The scoop by itself and the milkshakes were not worth the price. Yes, it does take some time for the staff to prepare the ice cream, but remember- good things come to those who wait! I got the ooey gooey butter cake and my friend got the s'mores ice cream. Albeit I liked my ice cream, nothing could beat Ample Hills for their ooey gooey butter cake so unfortunately I kept mentally comparing it. My friend really liked his as well. The only thing I would change is the cup size- yes I'm a messy eater but the cup is overflowing with whipped cream/etc at the end ie it's inevitable that some of it will fall (and we don't want that)! On the other hand, you can absolutely customize anything you want and but to be honest, it's still more show than taste. The taste was fine, don't get me wrong. Ice cream is sweet but the customer service left a sour taste in my mouth. It was pretty busy when we got there and a bit crowded. There is a second floor for customers to eat at. Taste: This ice cream place had interesting flavors and they were good. I got the dulche de leche and my boyfriend had the Aztec chocolate. The Aztec chocolate was spicy but well balanced. The dulche de leche was very sweet and the caramel flavor was strong. It actually was one of the better caramel flavors I've had. If you don't like extremely sweet things I wouldn't get this one. Mine was more melted when I got it but the Aztec chocolate had a better consistency. Most likely the amount of nitrogen used was not enough. I also would recommend asking to get the dulce de leche without the stroop waffles, I could not bite through them. For the service it made me I regret coming here at all. I love supporting local businesses and worked at a restaurant in the city before. Dealing with annoying customers is the worst and I get it. I don't expect amazing service but the rudeness from all the workers just threw me off. There was a minor mixup where the cashier forgot to give change, $40 for two cups of ice cream would have been a bit much but it was not a big deal. When I got my order, the chocolate injector was missing from it and again no big deal, but the way they handled it was rude. I asked if the chocolate injector was inside the ice cream since I didn't see it on top. They pointed out the caramel syrup (it was not chocolate) saying that they put it. When I told them it tasted like caramel syrup they gave a very off putting look. They even questioned if it was supposed to go with it and read the menu again (yes it was on there), but still sounded as if I were in the wrong. Normally I wouldn't bother with trying to correct something small like that but again, the caramel was very strong tasting. It definitely did need another flavor besides caramel to balance it out so it wasn't so overpowering. I wasn't surprised by the rudeness of the teens working there because that's just how they are, but coming from a middle aged man who I presume is the manager or someone higher up?
