Matt B. and I used to live within walking distance of All Time and I'm kind of sad that it was a shitty sushi joint back then and not this amazing neighborhood restaurant. We went for dinner with Bret H. and FeiFei J. at the end of July and had a wonderful evening. The place was bustling at 6:30 on a Saturday, the outdoor space crammed full of tiny circular tables. Our party of four got the same size table as the parties of two, and I spent all of dinner straddling the awkwardly placed table legs, as there was no other way for us to fit in. This is my one complaint about All Time, and I got used to my position fast enough. Otherwise, the space was just lovely, homey and green and most definitely cozy. There were several families dining at that hour, something we noted for future reference, as we like to eat out and have a little one we left with grandparents for the night. Service was solid, friendly and helpful, and there was a robust wine menu that our waiter seemed to know very well. We shared a bottle of the Occhipinti SP68, a Sicilian red wine that went well with everything we ordered. The food was superb, made with fresh ingredients, beautifully prepared. The portions were hefty--we shared five dishes four ways and this felt like a substantial dinner (and one that also tested the limits of our ridiculously small table). I loved the burrata, which came with cherry tomatoes, good olive oil, fancy balsamic, and garden basil, piled on top of thick, crusty house bread. It's hard to mess up burrata, but this was exceptional, thanks to the large quantity of gorgeous, flavorful cherry tomatoes. The "good ass salad" was, as promised, quite good, with lettuces from Colfman Farms, crunchy vegetables, seeds, and lemony dressing. I particularly appreciated the sugar snap peas. The ceviche was excellent, Japanese yellowtail with lime, Fresno chile, red onion, cucumber, and avocado, served on a crispy heirloom corn tostada. On the heavier side, Ashley's lamb ragu was a rich, hearty dish with braised, slow-cooked lamb shoulder, real parmesan, and housemade cavatelli, the pasta perfectly textured, with some bite to the dough and a nutty, crispy sear. Finally, there was the pork tomahawk, a massive cut of Beeler's pork, served on the bone over crispy farro with brussels from Milliken Farms, mustard seed vinaigrette, and plenty of bacon. I get it with avocado and bacon and it's one of the most satisfying meals I've ever had. The cheesy egg on toast is also to die for. It's incredible how All-Time can take a basic concept and turn it into gold. The crispy rice breakfast bowl is so genius, so well-executed. Their breakfast menu is rare in the sense that every single thing is mind-blowingly good. The environment and staff also add to the magic of this place. My usual experience pre quarantine at All Time is a wonderful Sunday brunch after an epic Griffith hike. It's never difficult to grab a table. You get in line to order, take your number, and grab a table. All Time is a a pretty trendy restaurant with a nice outdoor area and plenty of neat decor accents that enable it to justify the price of it's avocado toast. You order at the counter and technically arent allowed to take up space at a table until then though not sure how thoroughly they enforce this real. The food here is decent though priced accordingly to it's vibe and where it takes up residence. We got the crispy rice with pork, which was flavorful and had just the right about of char. The seating part could be tricky since you have to go to the counter first and get your order before taking a table somewhere. As for my iced mocha, I'm actually disappointed to see how it's overpriced for a very small glass. I know a couple of better coffee shops in the neighborhood that you actually can get bigger sizes for your mocha for $5 or less. I ordered cheesy eggs on toast and that tastes just DELICIOUS! There are a lot of scrambled eggs on multigrain toast and I love it how soft the eggs were with great amount of cheese. There's a reason this place is buzzing. It's an outstanding addition to the 'hood, and a phenomenal step up from what was here before, which was cold and unwelcoming, and felt like walking into the waiting room of a morgue. A waiting room designed by someone who urgently needed therapy for debilitating OCD. Now, with the addition of wood surfaces and plants and friendliness and ambiance and a canopy and fairy lights, it's become irresistible. The space was at one time occupied by a Japanese restaurant called San Sui. In fact, and quite bizarrely, the sign is still up and clearly readable. Is it a cost issue? Why don't they tear it down? On the other hand, perhaps that's how the current place earned its name - that sign will clearly be there for all time. Anyway, I digress. This is a great little corner of Los Feliz. My first time here, and I'm impressed. Love the fact that the staff remind me of laid-back carnival workers, complete with scruffy beards and lanky hair. Love that the menu has an in-your-face 'screw you, this is what we serve and those are our prices, and yes, some of our staff have beards and lanky hair, and if you don't like it go elsewhere,' self-confidence. I have no idea what furikake is, for instance, or urfa pepper, or Weiser potato. But I love that they boldly serve them anyway and leave you to guess. The joint feels good too. Hippy-ish, kinda. Different to anything else around here. They could happily open a branch in Portland or Greenwich Village and be instantly at home. Whoever took over this café has great ideas, great taste, a wonderful sense of what works, and, as a result, has transformed it lovingly into somewhere full of personality and brio that you instantly want to frequent. Which was certainly not true of the morgue waiting room. They do dinner, I guess, but mainly cater to a young daytime media crowd discussing scripts and episode-length and what a crappy cameraman so-and-so is; the kind of people who say the word 'like' every other breath, because stringing words together into a complete sentence is hard. One tiny niggle. Door's left open. Flies were walking on the window. Café's pastries stand on the counter, exposed. In my head, that means flies may land on unprotected pastries when I'm not looking. This worries me. Cakes need to be covered in summer, I feel. Taking the risk, I nonetheless ordered a croissant. Super-tasty. Actually, it felt 'designed' somehow, the way good furniture is designed, or artisanal pottery. But of course it was!! Real thought has gone into every aspect of this endeavor. In fact, the more I write, the more impressed I am. All I can say is, give All Time a try. These people deserve your custom and I hope they make a fortune. All Time is getting a fresh wave of hype on the interwebs, so as a big fan of Sqirl and Pollen and other comparable spots up in this part of town I had to give it a go. Apart from a slight service hiccup, my high expectations were met thanks to a solid breakfast burrito. Points of comparison for this review include: Sqirl: 4 Stars Pollen: 5 Stars Star 1: How were the service and atmosphere? I must have hit some sort of jackpot in coming in around mid-day between Christmas and New Years, because there was no line and I easily found a seat for one after placing my order with a young lady who was very kind. I will point out that it was only after finishing my meal and leaving that I realized that I never received the Vanilla Latte that I ordered. Maybe it was served inside as opposed to brought to my table? Seems unlikely, but maybe. A notable oversight, but these things happen. Star. Star 2: How were the portions relative to the cost? $13.00 isn't cheap for what was a small breakfast burrito, so value might be my only strike against All Time. Even so, this price point certainly wasn't unreasonable when you stack it up against comparable dishes elsewhere (ie $15.00 breakfast sandwich at Pollen). Star. Stars 3 and 4: How was the food? This was a solid breakfast burrito. I'm typically not a huge bacon guy if I'm given the choice, but this super thick cut fresh bacon was genuinely some of the best I've had in recent memory. From there the eggs and potatoes brought everything together with some good green salsa. Just for some constructive criticism, I would have liked to have seen the bacon chopped up just a bit as I had several bites that just about extracted the entire piece. From there, crispy potatoes (hash brown style) always beat the soft breakfast potatoes in my mind, and give the customer an option for some salsa with some kick. Just food for thought. Single Star. Back in Los Feliz from the Bay Area, the first place I visited was All Time last night. I had not dined there in a year and a half and I got the surprise of my life! They have quadrupled the outdoor dining area to create the most charming, romantic space I have experienced outside of a European city. The attention to detail, from the soft candle lights to a mesmerizing wall showcasing their unique wine finds, was a sensory delight. My dining partner "Rouge" took charge of the food ordering, and those special touches were no more evident than in the "Burrata, Cherry tomatoes, Basil" crostini. They have upped their game by making all their bread in-house. It really does make all the difference. This extends to their other dishes as well. When it came to the wine I just shut up and left it to the experts-"Rouge" and Ashley Wells, the co-owner and sommelier extraordinaire. The carefully nuanced collection comes from Ashley finding wine gems from around the world. Ashley's connections to boutique winemakers in Northern California run deep. I believe she has personally visited all of these winemakers. The person taking care of us was a service professional personified. They didn't taste very interesting and didn't serve the purpose meant for that dish. It was just good, nothing else. As for everything else, put it all in a corn tortilla and drizzle the house hot sauce on it. DELICIOUS. Highly recommend a chocolate chip cookie at the end of your meal too. Sprinkled with sea salt.
