I ordered delivery for a group of women to gather for dinner before a carol service in West Philly and a member of the group had recommended Allegro. For 15 women I ordered 3 pizzas: - Allegro veggie - Allegro house (pepperoni and ground beef, onions, green peppers, mushrooms I think) - Margherita We had a couple slices leftover and everyone enjoyed their pizzas. We also ordered a large greek salad and when i asked if it would be enough the friendly pizza person laughed. I understood when it arrived - it is the largest salad I've seen in a while. Could have fed 30-40 people! we had so much leftover and it was so generous with probably a dozen hard boiled eggs in it and a couple green peppers and all the rest. Delicious and so huge! Im from New York and have not had good luck with good pizza in Philly until we went to Allegro Pizza last night. The people who work there were friendly and attentive. I had a white slice with spinach & white slice with spinach, ricotta and tomato. The crust was absolutely perfect nice and crispy but not burnt. My husband had a white slice & philly cheesesteak slice. My daughter had the philly cheesesteak w/ provolone & onions sandwich. They both felt the same way as I did. My ANM was late and we were working short so she decided to treat us to lunch. It was a delivery order and it did come fast. I wanted a Quesadilla but they don't sell them anymore. The menus need updating because it was a lot of stuff they don't sell anymore on their menu. They said the panini is similar , not really. It's a lot more breading and it was kind of dry. Luckily we had some French dressing at the job, so I put that on the panini. The fries were fine, can't really mess that up. It wasn't my money to waste, so I ate it. I always order Allegros Pizza. There pizza is delicious and great customer service. Recently I decided to get there Regular Cheese Steak Stromboli. W/ Tomato Sauce, Mozzarella Cheese, Beef Steak, Green Peppers, Onions, Pepperoni, Sausage and Mushrooms. Overall, it was a great portion. The Stromboli I have to give a 0/5. It wasn't good to me. it was way too oily, it barley had beef steak, the mushrooms were raw, it was no green peppers, onions and sausage in it. This is the classic drunk pizza place and for what it's worth, it's pretty decent. I'd give it 3.5 stars if I could; I've had better cheap pizza, but for a restaurant that opens very late at night it is pretty decent. The pizza itself is alright - it's your average, run of the mill pizza. It's good for a late night snack. The dough is nice; whenever I eat here, I find the crust isn't as hard as some other thin pizza slices and I find myself eating the crust. Zesto is 2 blocks away and their sauce is far superior and so is their pizza and everything on the menu. If you usually get delivery from this nasty ass pizza place, try Zesto. Fast delivery and much better Italian food. So my point about the slices if you find you have to settle for Allegro instead of the many better pizza places, a cheese slice will cost you $4.25 but a 6 slice pie will cost you $15. Take it home and have it later, but don't pay twice the price for a slice of this shit pie. The staff is on the phone, watching tv and bullshitting, so they got my order wrong and I had to return it. Terrible customer service. Stood at the pizza counter for like 15 minutes. They were not busy at all and there was like 4 workers standing around. No one greeted me and they just looked at me and kept going. I actually had to say hey can I get a slice of pizza. One woman with glasses was on her phone which is completely unsanitary while handling food with no gloves. Highly disappointed. Allegro Pizza at 40th and Spruce Streets in University City, Philadelphia is centrally located and has a convenient parking lot although is easily walked to from everywhere on Penn's campus. There is both indoor and outdoor seating and private single-use unisex restrooms. The restaurant and grounds are always clean and well maintained. The staff is friendly and helpful and service is pretty quick, on weekends and late nights it can get pretty busy. There are four large TV's. The menu is large, I have tried most items on it. Pizza is always available and slices are ready pretty quick. They have a very large supply of beer, wine, and other beverages including fountain soda. Everything is available for eat-in, carry-out, and or delivery, **NOTE CALL THE RESTAURANT DIRECTLY, not a third party, their drivers are quick and you don't pay the upcharges third parties tag onto the cost of the items as well as service and delivery charges. They offer both pork and beef sausage as toppings, and large salads, although they may not have a full pie prepared for a slice you want most of the time they will customize slices to order like my favorite, the Hawaiian slice in the photo is fire! They have a HUGE 28" pizza that boasts 16 slices, (I won't say I haven't got that a few times to have leftovers all week for snacks or lunch). I do prefer real silverware, especially when eating salads but that is not always available since the pandemic. They make their own Italian sauces in-house and prepare everything fresh to order. They have excellent hand-dipped and spun milkshakes, hold the whipped cream, it's not the best. They have hand sanitizer available and the kitchen, front and back are immaculate. Food Safety and Sanitation are the top priority here. Sometimes the crowd is a handful being on a college campus but it's always a fun visit and an excellent meal. They are open late at night and it is a great place to get caught up with friends while I'm enjoying my Hawaiian Pizza I am always treated like Ohana (Hawaiian for family)! read more

Really awful service at this restaurant. I have been coming here a while but had another bad experience. I ordered a burger last week around 10:30 pm. Cashier said it would be 5 minutes or so. After 10 minutes, I asked someone else and they said it would be 7-10 minutes. I did not receive my food until 11:15 and when I had gotten home the burger was dry and the bun was *burnt*. Called the restaurant immediately to see if they could correct the mistake. Gentleman by the name of Valentino claimed to be the manager for "5yrs without a problem" cursed me out and hung up on me after I asked him for his name repeatedly and if he could correct the mistake. Contacted grubhub's customer care service and I was told by Grubhub the restaurant would not send the correct item and that at the moment they were not able to refund me at that I would be contacted by via email. My order was 59dollars. They took my money, got my order wrong, refused to correct their mistake, cursed at me, and hung up on me. I will be pursuing my refund. Only giving Allegro's 2stars for the simple fact they stopped delivering pass 49th street in Southwest which is corny cause they use to back in like up to '12. Guess because it's rougher down towards this end they loss their heart to come pass 49th street. When they started that they even use to put you on hold and ask in the background "do we deliver there"? Come back and say "No". It's cool though cause I drive anywhere If the food is worth it but them they fell off anyway over the years rushing and trying to appeal to the University of Penn students. It's been about a year since the last time we ordered pizza from here and tonight reminded me why. The menu actually excited me a little - there were different pizza options (regular, Sicilian, and Neapolitan) so we went with a 14" Allegro House Pizza and a 14" Neapolitan cheese (figured we'd add our own fresh basil). First of all, there was no difference between the dough. The only thing I could tell was fundamentally different between the two pizzas was the amount and type of cheese. What's the point of classifying your pizza differently on menu but not having any difference in reality? Quite bizarre. Marketing ploy I guess. Well you got me. Plus, most of the slices were just so poorly cut and oversized. Basically, I'm taking that as somebody couldn't take 5 seconds to cut the pizza well. That's just sloppy and it says "I don't care about this product that I'm making and selling." Toppings of the house pizza were pretty good but just way too much cheese for my liking. I really want to support the local pizza joints but I just can't find good reasons to at this point. Unfortunately in this case, increased cost does not equate to better product. read more

Slightly above average food and a decent selection of to go beer. That's pretty much the best and only way to sum up Allegro. Since it's 1/2 a block away from Pi Lam I've found myself doing beer more often then food. The selection can be beyond average, especially when they have things like bottles of Grimbergen for a little more then $3 (compared to Foodery that's a steal). But beyond that it's pretty much your standard varieties that you'd expect from a pizza joint, maybe a tiny bit above. As far as food goes you generally get what you pay for. But considering you can grab things like a chicken wing dinner with 2 sides for $7.50, and a pasta and clam sauce meal for two for just a little over $10, you also get a whole lot of it. Overall you'll definitely find better, but it suffices for the Penn area that it's in, especially when most of the food trucks close down. read more
