Went last night for dinner and was impressed with the food and service. The prices were in line with some of the top steak houses in Northern NJ/NYC and I was hoping they'd deliver and they certainly did. Porterhouse for two, fried calamari, creamed spinach and creme brûlée dessert was all among the best in the area and with a wine shop just a few doors down, you can save because it's BYOB. FYI-parking is valet, but there is adequate street parking and visitor parking at the train station. read more

Went here with a group of about 13 for a guys night out. Great time was had by all. Staff was on top of everything. They hustled, made great recommendations and were in total control. We all thought the food was very good. We have all been to most of the major NYC steakhouses and this place holds up. Its city steak prices, maybe slightly less. The fact that its BYOB makes it reasonable. This place beats any local steakhouse. Roots, capital grill, river palm, sear, etc. Allendale had better beef and service than all. We shared a number of apps, bacon, oysters, oysters Rockefeller, shrimp cocktail. All good. We had like 6 steak for twos and the on the bone ribeye. All excellent, all served at proper temperature and with the sizzling plate and accompanying juices. Would definitely recommend this place to everyone. read more

Some of the best steaks I've ever had. I've eaten at some of the finest, most respected steakhouses in Manhattan, and Allendale Steakhouse serves a rib eye that hangs with the best of them. Their Porterhouse is just as impressive, and the steaks have always been cooked as ordered (medium-rare is never overcooked)... Fresh mozzarella and tomato appetizer was fantastic, ditto the seafood tower. This place is a great addition to the New Jersey restaurant scene! read more

This place has so much potential but it just misses the mark. First expect to pay a lot. Which is fine if you get a really good quality steak. Which they have. My wife got the filet $50 and is a good size(14oz) as opposed to some places that give a small 6oz price. The meat itself was really good but lacking in anything other than just meat. No salt, no pepper, no sauces or options for blackened or seared or anything. Just a hunk of meat. I wanted to try out and see how good they were so I got the salmon. Sorry I had steak the day before. Which was cooked to perfection with some kind of sauce over spinach. The fish was great the sauce would've been great had there been more than a spoon full. Spinach was good. We got sides of mashed potatoes and creamed spinach. The potato was like the steak absolutely no flavor other than potato and no options for garlic or sour cream n chive or loaded. Nothing just a bowl of life less plane potato. The consistency was perfect though and here is where I have even more issue. We got a chopped salad to start which was really good and they asked if we wanted fresh ground pepper for it which we did. When I asked for pepper and salt they brought me a normal shaker. Why would you do that. Where is the grinder for the table or come back with the grinder you used in my salad. If you give me lifeless potato at least give me quality pepper to go on them. So they just miss the mark. Small menu not many steak options and who puts a 120oz steak on the menu and wants to be taken seriously anyway. That's just gross. I have been to steak places all over the world and this one could be a great one but with hardly anything on the menu and then nothing to excite my taste buds some more it just misses the mark. Would I go back sure but with all the other steak places around I'd have to not want to go far and be a little motivated. read more

Dinner for two at 6PM on a Friday Night. Steak and Filet Mignon were excellent, tender, juicy, cooked exactly as requested. Salads were good size. We did not order appetizers or soup or dessert. We do not have large appetites any more. Appetizers and desserts were of good size and the other diners seemed to enjoy them. The dining room soon became crowded and stayed busy. The one problem we faced was the timing of the entree. We both held onto our salads to finish during the meal. After waiting forty minutes we inquired about or steaks. The waiter informed us that he would not put in the order until we finished our salads. We told him of our preference for finishing the salads and he then put in our order. I found the waiters kind of inexperienced and not well trained. I hate being called "you guys." I am not "you guys" and my wife is not, "you guys" . Where wait staff picked up this disrespectful habit I do not know but they should all lose it. Do not call the dinner guests by a disrespectful term. If you are going to drop $200 on dinner I think they deserve better treatment. Atmosphere is bland and noisy. It is a BYOB. I give ASH a C+. read more

Not worth it. Service is less than expected for the high prices they charge. $9.95 for sautéed onions?!?! The steak was good but had too much butter on it. We were seated for 10 minutes before anyone came over and that was just to fill water glasses, even though we had 2 bottles of wine on the table. When the waiter finally showed up, he asked if we needed more time. Really??? Never did anyone ask if we needed anything or how the food was. Thank goodness it was bring your own. We ate here last night - Sat night reservations for 8 pm - apparently, so did the rest of Bergen County, because everyone seemed to arive at once. It was pretty disorganized (the valet parking was organized) and there really is no where to wait on a cold rainy night (they kept yelling to close the outer door, but there was really no where else to stand). We were finally seated around 830 - decent table for four, there was one six top right next to the open door that would have been a terrible location. Apparently, the people doing the seating were not the nicest (I wouldnt know, as the other husband and I were in the alcove the entire time). We didnt get our order taken until 9 pm - we didnt recieve our salads and bacon app (too much onion in the chopped salad, dressing was ok, bacon was tasty) until 930 - really unacceptable, but will give a pass because the restaurant's still new. main courses came @ a half an hour later - 10 pm, for an 8 pm reservation, with no bar (ie no need to wait for drinks to come). both couples had the porterhouse for two, shared asparagus and the mixed homemade chips and onion rings combo. porterhouse was perfectly cooked and delicious - filet side was melt in your mouth good, the sirloin side was tasty as well - salty and dripping with some love I didnt try the asparagus, the homemade chips were just ok, the onion rings were heavily battered but not bad. none of the dessert options thrilled me - no one opted for dessert or coffee, but the brought a plate of berries with cream for the table. Servers were friendly but clearly overwhelmed. All in all, not bad, but wouldnt rush back there - Park Steak house in Park Ridge is just as good, and they have the service aspects down.. read more

Just had a pretty good meal with the exception of 1 porterhouse which was probably a randomly bad cut. It was like eating a shoe. We sent it back and then it was on the bill. One of the waiters came over and asked what the problem was and then dismissively said "ITS THE BEST STEAK IN BERGEN COUNTY, WHATEVER". A complete and total jerk. We told him that the service was up to then very good and the rest of the meal was good. So, they are a bit uppity (or at least that waiter) and the steak is ok but this guy was totally out of line. This is my 5th time here and the steak is always on point. I have been going for the Porterhouse for 2 and decided to go for the Ribeye and boy was I happy as hell I did. Ron and his staff always welcome me and my wife with open arms. BYOB is a plus to us patrons and thanks to Bergen county for allowing this. I had the Chocolate Moose cake is a must to try for desert. The steak I got was top notch- it was one of the special Filet Mignon and was very tender. Two different groups of two i was with got the Porterhouse for 2 and it was really not that great. It was an above average steak but nothing special. However, the negative part of the dinner comes with the price and the very poor service. All the steaks are 42$ which I am ok paying for, but I would expect some waiters who know what they are doing and can attend to a table. The waiting area is the size of the closest. We and several other parties waited in the main dinning area for a host for about 10 minutes being that no one was there! People were literarily standing next to people eating. If it isnt clear the restaurant was super tight. I am ok with a waiter not being grade A but not at a restaurant with the cheapest steak being 42$ What made me never want to come back was when I caught my friend eating his ice cream sundae with a fork...I had to call over the waiter to get him a spoon. This was probably the best steak house I've been to. Not only was the food to die for but the service was fantastic. They made me feel like I was at a family function. I got the ribeye and it was the best ribeye I've had and I have had a lot of ribeyes. If you ever are craving a really good steak go to Allendale steak house you won't regret it. When you go you must try their house made steak sauce it's like no other you have ever had it has its own signature flavor that makes it different then any sauce I've had. After you eat your steak and drink your wine or whatever alcohol you prefer you need to move on to desert. They have a desert that is like taking a spoonful of heaven and putting it on your tongue it's Called schlog and if your ever at Allendale steak house you need to try it. Decent atmosphere and service was good however I really think they're serving Australian Beef as my wife and I split the porterhouse for two and it was so gamey like other Australian beef we'd had once before. Had the small portion of leftover steak today and even my neighbor,who's a big foodie, tasted it said it wasn't quite like any American beef he'd eaten before. Went this weekend to celebrate a birthday. We were a party of 6 and everyone is still raving about the whole experience. Start to finish, it was a phenomenal dinner. Rick, our waiter, made great suggestions and was extremely attentive. Service was top notch only to be topped by the quality of the food. We all wanted the wedge salad and Rick recommended we order 3 to split since theyre so big, which was perfect. Blue cheese dressing and the bacon were some of the best i've ever tasted. The colossal shrimp were also amazing. The porterhouse for 4 was superb. Cooked and seasoned perfectly, one of the best steaks i've had in awhile (including relative to the big steakhouses in city). They included schlog with berries for desert (delicious) on top of the pecan pie and apple strudel we ordered (which were amazing). Such a nice touch and so appreciated. Even the valets asked us how our dinner was as we got in our cars. Evidence that everyone is well trained to deliver a superior experience. Thank you Allendale Steakhouse for such a great experience! Took my dad here for a late Father's Day celebration, and we absolutely loved it. It is a BYO which is always good for the wallet, especially when you're at a steak house. There is a liquor store about 1 minute walking distance down the road for convenience. Our original plan was to go to Roots Steak House in Ridgewood, but we were not impressed the first time we went there. So we decided to give Allendale Steak House a shot since it was close to home, and we are so glad we did! My dad raved about it for days, and he is the 'real deal' when it comes to steak-advocates. We ordered the lobster bisque, the wedge salad, and oysters to start. The soup was awesome, and the oysters were fresh as they should be. For the main, we ordered the surf and turf and two filet mignons. Because the smallest filet was 14oz I split this with my sister. They were all cooked to the exact temperature we asked for. The sides of mashed potatoes, baked, and creamed spinach were all family style, and we enjoyed these as well. They make their own steak sauce which was delicious. I do not normally use steak sauce because a perfectly cooked steak does not need anything to go along with it, but regardless, I had to try it. At the end we passed on dessert because we were too full. I will definitely come back next time I'm craving a great steak dinner. Decor inside was cute and quaint, and the servers were polite and attentive. So happy we tried this place!! read more

Outstanding dining experience! Steaks and sides are all wonderfully prepare and very generous portions as well as excellent service. And on top of it all BYOB!! Dined here with my family and it was a fabulous evening, my sons and husband had the porterhouse steak for 3 and it was huge and cooked perfectly. So much food we needed to take some home. Lucky this place got even a star. I ordered a porterhouse for 2 and it was disgusting. The steak was over cooked and had no taste. I think they forgot to season the steak. We've dined here twice so far and ordered the dry aged porterhouse both times. Both times cooked to perfection (maybe a lil less butter the 2nd time would've been nice), and the seafood tower was amazing and fresh. Service was good and byob option a def plus. The positive quality of the food is offset by the miserable service, attitude of the waitstaff, and absence of management. When we made our reservation, we specifically advised them that we were coming with another couple for their 50th anniversary and that we would like them to do something special, such as a candle in a dessert. What did we get? NOTHING! When we asked to speak to the manager, we were told that there was no manager. There are enough other good steakhouses in the area. Got the porterhouse for 4 this past Saturday. I asked the waiter how long that would take to cook, and he replied, "About a minute and a half." Wow...for a 71 oz steak? I thought he misspoke. The meat was on the tough side and it was difficult to discern the filet from the strip. A quality porterhouse has that buttery filet that just makes each bite lustful for more. This was not the case at all. And at NYC prices, I can say I'll likely never try this place again. read more

City-like quality in the suburbs. Started off with the crab cakes; real tasty and seemingly fresh. The remoulade had a nice. kick. My date had the sirloin med rare and I opted for the filet- also med rare. Complimentary salads came after the appetizer. Some iceberg with veggies tossed in Italian dressing. My filet was perfectly cooked and real tender. They did a good job on the seasoning- maybe too good. Half way through my filet I had to quit cause my taste buds couldn't handle the salt. That being said, I love salt- so it wasn't a big deal for me. Mashed potatoes and sautéed spinach with garlic as sides were on point. I will say that my date's sirloin was not as salty as my filet. Dessert was offered and we declined but you still get a complimentary dish of homemade whipped cream topped with strawberries. Very light and enjoyable. I intended to bring my family here for dinner as a late Christmas gift on Sunday, January 6th. I called a week in advance and made a reservation for that date in which my name an phone number were presumptively written down somewhere. When my family arrived at the restaurant, (after barely being able to park. Seriously, the parking is terrible. Good luck if you have an SUV) we were met at the door by a fraught looking woman who said the restaurant was closed and there was no way we could have a reservation because they were hosting an 80 person baby shower. After explaining that I had called in advance and made a reservation, the woman looked at us like we were crazy and went to get someone. After a minute or so, we were met at the door by a guy who made no attempt to explain how this could have happened and made no attempt to look into it. There was no attempt to accommodate us in any way and no offer to come back at another time. The man who spoke to us would not even let us take one step inside the door while he talked to us. I will not be bringing my business to this establishment, no matter how good it's supposed to be. There are plenty of other good steakhouses in the area that are able to properly make and keep reservations. read more
