This little gem is such a welcome oasis from the nearby venues. I discovered Allison's on YELP a few months ago and have been there several times -- excellent selection of pasta, seafood, and salads -- some divine rosemary bread and cornbread. Several specials each evening -- opens at 5. Wine/beer. Service always top notch. Note: venue is small, which makes the generous menu all the more surprising‼. Tyler served my Mother (89) and me this evening and was sweetly patient with our inability to choose an entrée. The much ballyhooed soup of the day, crab with sun-dried tomatoes, had an out-of-the-can taste to it, to which crab and sun-dried tomatoes were thrown in. The entrees were fine - balsamic chicken was OK, although not particularly memorable, with insipid boiled rice and two lonely roasted asparagus spears. However, I cannot understand this insistence on serving corn bread with dinner meals - I can get all the corn bread I want (if i want it, which is rare), in ether IHOP or Bob Evans. The waitress said that people ask for corn bread, even to the p;oint of buying it and taking it home. I guess I am in the wrong corner of the country to have my corn bread opinions. read more

Allison's opened when your choices in the area were Burger King and McDonald's. They spruced up a little old Italian pizza joint into an actual restaurant. As new places and chains have come in, they have held their own. It is a solid stand by. The owner lives just miles away and is involved. My wife has Celiac and has to do gluten free and it has never been an issue. Our kids order a split dish from the regular menu and there is always a coupon floating out there. It fills a void between glorified chains and overpriced pretenders. read more

the menu hasn't changed in years. we go here maybe once a year, maybe twice.. even the specials are usually the same..boring.. I lover fried oysters, these are reasonable good, but I dont get the sauce and the cole slaw they put with it is horrible.. yes I still order it because I like fried oysters, but never eat the slaw. the last couple of times I have just asked for fried oysters with no sauce or slaw... ceaser salad is ok..the dressing is a tad bland. The lemon chicken is good and so is the hanger steak they have. too bad the sauce for the steak is not a true reduction and is from either a powder or a base.. that would make it a lot better.. friendly service always and it is good... prices are very fair and portions are good but the menu never changes.. the biggest reason why they dont get a better or rating or why I dont eat there more often read more

Hadn't been to Allison's in a while. Went there on a date. Ordered the calamari, which remains the best I've had on the East Coast. Had the chicken limone. Simple, flavorful, refreshing. My date had the crab cakes which were excellent. For desert we shared profiteroles, which were filling, and the limoncello cake, which was out of this world. Kathleen (I think) was our server and was also doubling as bartender. The staff are as polite and warm as I remembered from previous visits. My husband and I live in Crofton and dine here at least once a month. The food is great and the service is excellent! Grace is awesome and always remembers us. The first time we came back she remembered our names but we didn't remember hers! That's the type of attention you receive there. They are all always attentive and accommodating. The menu isn't huge, but what is on it is very good. They also do specials for variety. The atmosphere is warm and intimate. It's the perfect local dining establishment and a real gem of a surprise in a strip mall! read more

One of our favorite go-to places. Consistent, high quality of food and presentation. Friendly service. A cozy, comfortable restaurant. Big winners - happy hour drink prices, apps (esp. oysters, calamari, moz sticks), excellent grilled salmon salad, hearty seafood pasta, chicken/angel hair, steak frites. The food at Aalison's was very good last night, and the cost moderate. Our only complaint was the service. Our waiter seemed very inexperienced and slow, though he managed to give the table of 6 next to us plenty of attention. Our appetizer never arrived, and we canceled it as our entrees arrived - after a too-long wait. The food made up for it, so we hope they will bring their service up to speed. read more

Was in Crofton for business. It was lunchtime so I searched for somewhere to eat. I like to support local businesses so chose this place over a chain. Horrible service. First off - you Yelpers ROCK!!! I live in VA while my culinary student/foodie son lives in Bowie, MD so we're always looking for a good place to eat. Finally got a chance to dine here last night after reading these reviews. Another Yelper recommended an online coupon which hooked us up for one half price entree. The food is great with generous portions! The servers there could not have been nicer. It was a fabulous meal. My son got the pork loin special which was flavorable. I had a salmon salad (which wasn't dry which is so often the case) with the tomato crab soup which had a pile of lump crab swimming in it and just the perfect amount of kick. We also shared a delicious, hot Bruschetta app and had mango cheesecake which had a creamy denseness. I was also happy to see my scale go down this morning with no damage done. Some may think this place is a little expensive. You often GET WHAT YOU PAY FOR!!! We'll be back as often as we can! It was a very very good meal! How often can you say that about a chain? read more

It is finally nice to see a restaurant in Crofton with a bit of character and charm, not to mention utterly delicious food. For too long us denizens of Crofton have been subjected to the horrors of the Damons steak, the catch of last month at Big Fish, and the ever frightening culinary atrocities that come out of the kitchen daily at Sly Horse. Allisons could be filed under the tag of "best kept secret" but in my humble opinion I believe that this place deserves much more than being a secret. Chef, and yes he is a fully trained and certified chef, Jim Hammrock has created a menu that will satisify both the timid eater and the full blown foodie. With each dish hand prepared by Chef Hammrock quality and delictability are fully assured. With every ingredient made from scratch, from stock to dressings, the time and effort Chef Hammrock puts into his restaurant is obvious. As for the review written by Yelp member Allyson disregard any word this "critic" to use the term lightly has said. If it were up to her the entire town would be filled with Five Guys burger joints and sub par Asian eateries. This negative review is coming from a woman who ordered a Turkey Burger at the West End Eatery. That is the same as going to Ruth Chris and getting a Ceaser Salad, pure nonsense. In closing I sincerely hope that "Allyson" will keep her negative comments to herself, or any comments for that matter and please refrain from attempting to be the high profile critic of the local food establishments. We have Tara Walters for that and she does just fine. read more
