Not sure about this place. Server at night was very serious! Told him I was celebrating my birthday and he didn't say anything lol. They serve a complimentary bread service (I'd skip the white roll... very dry) and some eggplant "chips" along with meat and cheese bites. Off to a good start but then I got the risotto and was disappointed. It was not creamy at all. The Salmon was standard but underwhelming. They were kind enough to remove the risotto from the bill! The cheesecake was good just wish it had a crust! Went in the morning to use my credit from the hotel and the server added a 20% grat for a Togo order! When I entered Allora's Fifth Avenue location I was immediately greeted by a man that appeared to be the host, though after he sat me, he interestingly also wound up as our waiter. The restaurant had a large, beautiful bar in the front, followed by an elegant, white tableclothed dining room just beyond that. The place was not very crowded, but the minimal staff that were attending to the diners seemed rather irritated and disinterested. They were efficient and all, but it was certainly not what I would consider "service with a smile". Despite that, the meal was otherwise fine. Our party of three was sat at a spacious, comfortable booth. We received a small meat and cheese plate, vegetable chips, and our choice of four different types of bread (Italian, white roll, olive roll, or raisin roll). My olive roll was dry and hard, but the sweet raisin one was opposingly soft. I enjoyed these light bites with a glass of refreshing Prosecco, while we waited for our ordered starters to arrive. First, the three of us divvied up the Caesar Salad for Two, which was prepared at our tableside. Having a third of the master bowl was more than enough for one person, and the salad was delicious! I could taste the brininess and fishiness of the dressing on the crisp romaine leaves. There was a tad too much dressing for my liking, but it was tasty, so I wound up eating the whole thing. We also shared an order of the Rigatoni alla Bolognese, which was another winner! The pasta was cooked perfectly, as it was not too soft nor too al dente. The hearty sauce was so rich and flavorful that I could have eaten a bowl of it on its own. For my main course, I went with the Pollo Mt. Edna, which consisted of two pieces of bone-in chicken that were topped with sweet and cherry peppers, all in an aged, reduced balsamic vinegar. The balsamic added a tart tanginess, but was also just sweet enough that to balance out the ripe acidity. While the sauce and accoutrements were enjoyable, the chicken was tough and overcooked, which was a real bummer. After our meal, we debated about getting dessert, but the options were limited to a lot of cream-based options like Tiramisu, Creme Brulé, Key Lime Cheesecake, and so on. We preferred our desserts with more structure, so we decided to pass. Allora had its successes and its misses, but was mediocre overall. When we had arrived I had exclaimed that its atmosphere felt like that of a hotel restaurant, which made sense, as it was actually inside of one. Tens, tens, tens across the board! Well, since this is Yelp and five stars is the highest rating, change that to fives across the board. I had actually wanted to go to another Italian place nearby and couldn't get a reservation and with a 4.4 rating on Yelp, this looked like a good substitute. I'm happy to say I'm glad I didn't go to the other place because Allora is outstanding. From the second we walked in (to the hotel lobby because we didn't see the outside door to the restaurant) the service was exceptional. We were made to feel so welcome and we were treated like valued guests by everyone. The pace of the service was great and allowed us time to chat and catch up as I was having dinner with cousins from Pittsburgh and we hadn't seen each other in a year. The guy who led the service team for our table went over all the wonderful sounding specials and then took our drink orders. My barrel aged old fashioned was so good I had two! My husband and I started with a Caesar salad- with anchovies- that was prepared tableside and it was absolute bliss. He had the branzino for his main course, which was also prepared tableside. He said it was outstanding. I had something called dentice Mediterranean. According to the menu it's a filet of red snapper with shrimp, scallions, parsley, cherry tomatoes and white wine lemon sauce. All I know is that it was absolutely terrific and I would order it again in a heartbeat. My cousins had pastas which they both adored. For dessert, three of us had the amazing chocolate mousse and one of us had the creme brulee. Suffice it to say, there wasn't a scrap of anything left. I honestly can't recall the last time I had such an exceptional dining experience. The team working there is perfection. I can't say enough good things about Allora. The vibes were upscale, dim lighting, relatively quiet atmosphere. I had the Salmon Alla Griglia ordered to the chef's recommended temperature. It was absolutely amazing. I also ordered a side of mashed potatoes, one order was a good amount for 2 people to share, and paired perfectly with the salmon. We went for a Valentine's Day meal at 7:45pm. 2026. It was crowded and we had a reservation but they didn't receive it. Yelp The hostess was very polite and seemed sensitive to our situation. She sat us anyway. The manager saw us and told his waitress/hostess to seat us at a table in the corner. I do not think he was aware they didn't have our reservation. It was a round larger table 4 could have sat at. I was delighted because they have tables for two that I feel are tight. Main course: We had Dentice Mediterranean Filet of red snapper with shrimp, scallions, parsley, cherry tomatoes and white wine lemon sauce. ONCE AGAIN so satisfying, not salty just right. I want that now too. lol Over all, the poor wait staff were always running about to get the job done. They forgot our wine in a glass. We had to let them know and the main course took a bit to come out but I did see how the manager was working the room to make sure everything was going smoothly. I admire his demeanor. He never seemed stressed. Kind to guests. Side observation, I am not Italian but the Italian restaurants wait staff in my experience are always attentive and polite. It makes for an experience more enjoyable. We had a lovely meal and I recommend that you call for a reservation and not to attend on a busy weekend. lol. Had dinner with friends at Allora in November. Restaurant has lovely decor and we were surprised to be only patrons in dining room, (at 8 pm) Menu was good. We had rigatoni and beef and risotto dishes. Our waiter was very accommodating as we decided on our orders. We also met the chef who was very engaging and we complimented him on our meal. At the end of our meal we were surprised with a lovely dessert in honor of our friend's birthday. The host, Stefano, was helpful in choosing a red wine. Don't recommend this place. Came here with a group of friends a couple weeks ago. Place was filled like 30% on a Saturday night. Definitely aimed at business lunches or taking in weekend lunches. Subpar for NY Staff wasn't very friendly and kept trying to push extra items on us. They also twice came to the table to clear alcoholic drinks that were NOT empty. For like a $20 martini, I'm going to take every last sip. We corrected the waiter the first time and he did it a second. Definitely trying to make up for the fact that the place was vacant. They provided long hots, prosciutto, and cheese for the table without asking. That ended up on the bill. I will say they tasted good though. Our table ordered the following: 2x tableside Caesar: nice prep, but wasn't very tasty Mashed potatoes: very rich and creamy. Great Rigatoni bolognese: don't recommend. Fun experience and engaging staff but a little disappointing. I want to start by saying that the staff was super flexible and was able to accommodate our group of 12 when we realized we made a reservation at the wrong Allora. They were also great with considering allergies and dietary restrictions for our group. The staff was also very interactive and making jokes with our table. However, some may find this fun, but I felt it was making me a little uncomfortable especially since this was a work dinner and they were making a lot of awkward jokes which I didn't love. The food was not terrible but not out of this world considering the price point. We started with appetizers which came on personalized plates. The appetizers were not very shellfish allergy friendly so warning there (I only was able to enjoy the burrata and tomato). The pesto gnocchi pasta was great but didn't feel like the flavors were phenomenal (the roasted pine nuts were a great touch though). Kind of dated interior within what I think is also kind of a dated hotel (the Meridien). Clams were good, burrata was good, proscuitto with melon featured a pretty tired melon, probably way past season. The veal parm was good but not great, served not quite hot enough, the paparadelle was good and the tableside cooked rack of lamb was quite a spectacle and very good as well.
