I'm not going to lie--I originally planned to have lunch next door at their sister restaurant, but it was closed, so I ended up at Trattoria Dell'Arte. What a happy surprise! The moment I walked in, I felt like I had stepped into a scene from The Godfather. It had that classic old-school New York Italian restaurant vibe, full of charm and character. I wasn't sure what to expect from the food, but it exceeded every expectation. I ordered the branzino, and it was perfectly cooked--light, flaky, and incredibly flavorful. The seasoning tasted like it had been marinating for hours. It was absolutely delicious. The service was quick, friendly, and very accommodating. And I have to give a special shout-out to the sautéed mushrooms--they were packed with flavor and absolutely scrumptious. My friend and I went there for dinner and I arrived. I've eaten here a few times so I was looking forward to it. There was a host at the door. He wasn't friendly. He actually seemed like he didn't want to be there. I went down to the bathroom and there were 3 stalls. But Only 1 was working. There was a line out the door with women waiting. I met my friend we ordered 5 sides of vegetables, also watermelon salad, which was phenomenal! a pasta, one with carbonara and one with tomato We received a half order of pasta and a side of Pomodoro and a side of carbonara. Five sides of vegetables the waiter actually forgot. I was dumbfounded when he showed up with a tray of desserts and we hadn't even finished our entrées or received half of them. when the raider realized he never gave us our five vegetables before he said I'll be right back. I got you. He came back, literally less than three minutes later with the size they were just kind of a spoonful on a plate and they were terrible. They were had no taste. I'm not sure where he got them from but we returned them. The mushrooms are really good but the rest was not good at all. We also ordered the cauliflower steak and we never received our order of that. after we returned the first one. We got dessert. I ordered coffee and the coffee never arrived. I don't know what this guy was on, but I couldn't believe how much stuff he forgot. My friend was hungry or I would canceled everything that he forgot. So the breakdown was the mushrooms were good. The watermelon was good. Everything else was really below par. The waiter was nice but terrible at his job! And They need to repair those bathrooms. read more

We wanted a late night dinner and found that this place was open late at night. They also have a gluten free option so it is very accommodating to one of our dietary restrictions. We arrived later in the evening, around 8pm and were seating pretty quickly after arriving. I ordered the Spaghetti Carbonara ($30) and the Tequila Jungle Bird ($21). I've also tried the Classic Chicken Parmigiana ($38) and Pepperoni Pizza with the Gluten Free Crust ($35). Everything that we ordered was so good. It was also just enough food to fill us up for the night. The chicken parmigiana was probably my favorite, it was basically like a cheese pizza but with chicken in place of the crust. The meat was so moist and there was enough sauce on it that it wasn't dry at all. Service was great. We were constantly being checked up on and our server was super nice and accommodating. He explained the menu to us patiently since we were first timers here. Our waters were consistently full and if we needed anything they brought it over to us right away. We paid on an app since we had a coupon for signing up on it and it automatically notified our server that our bill was paid, so it was really quick and easy. I was actually craving Italian food so this really hit the spot. I've lived two blocks from here for over a decade but the first time I went was with friends from out of town who recommended it. We had a large group of nine and I have to say, they handled us very well. Add that to the great food and it was a good experience. I started with a great old fashioned and then for starters, we had some burrata and artichokes and both were really great. I wanted to eat light so I had a caesar salad with shrimp and it was pretty good. When they brought out the dessert tray, everyone was in awe. We ordered a lot for the table...cannoli, tartufo and chocolate mousse. I loved everything with the mousse and cannoli really standing out. My hubby and I had dinner at Trattoria Delll'Arte. This was actually the second time within a month's timespan I had eaten there because I had such an incredible experience the first time. The decor is inspired by Italian art. In fact, the design is inspired by an Italian artist's studio. When you enter, it feels cozy with sets of tables and booths organized in the front, but then the restaurant opens up as you travel further back, where it's more spacious. While there is a warmth in the environment, the restaurant has a subtle elegance that enhanced my dining experience. For appetizers, each time I've gone, I've ordered the short rib meatballs. They came four on a plate, drizzled in marinara sauce, and I tell you they were so tender and flavorful. These will always be my go-to appetizer there. For entrees, I ordered the lobster spaghetti carbonara. The plate was substantial, with chunks of lobster, and bits of crunchy bacon. The creaminess of carbonara goes so nicely with the buttery flavor and texture of the lobster. My hubby had the Lasagna. The seasoning of the dish was spot on, however, he wished there was more sauce. While there was sauce, the dish was experienced as a bit dry. For dessert, I will share that beyond the actual dessert, more importantly, it's how they present the options. The servers bring a dessert tray with a visual of all the dessert options for us to consider and choose from. We had the tiramisu and it didn't disappoint. The dessert was very delicate, however, the rich cream, cocoa, and coffee flavors really emerged through the dish. For beverages, I recommend their Espresso Martinis. Depending on the time of day, the restaurant can fill up very quickly, especially because it's across the street and around the corner from Carnegie Hall and New York City Center. I'm regularly in the 57th Street/7th Avenue area frequently because of the arts and cultural offerings nearby, and I never knew this place existed all these years. I'm glad I found it. read more

It has been quite a while since I had been there but I remembered the beautiful selection of roasted vegetables. I wasn't very hungry and ordered the spinach, cauliflower and mushrooms. I hadn't been back in over 20 years and it's still the same as I remembered. I couldn't decide between a Caesar salad and Shaved Brussels Sprout salad. The best things I can say about Trattoria Dell'Arte are that you can always get a reservation, and there's something for everybody on the menu. This restaurant is a carbon copy of sister restaurant Bond 45. It's very overpriced for what it is, but if you're looking for a midtown restaurant to please a lot of pallettes, you can do ok here if you order carefully. The safest thing on the menu is the vegetable antipasti plate, because you have a choice of 3 or 5 items, and can always depend on their very good lemon garlic spinach and hearty roasted mushrooms, and if you're lucky, the rich butternut squash lasagna. It ain't cheap but it's a reliable semi-healthy meal with built-in variety. As for entrees, I choose to skip them here, but your best bets are the rich pasta, pizza, and baked dishes that are hard to screw up. The kitchen overcooks fish, and if you want an overpriced steak, there are much better restaurants nearby. read more

This spot is funny, and definitely a good spot for you if you need to go to Carnegie hall or need a spot after a show at Carnegie hall. It is quintessential Italian-American join in midtown. The waiters are fun, the space is fun, and the menu is full of ridiculous food items that would never be served outside NYC. That being said, it's a good time to come and try it, unfortunately none of the food is great, but that's to be expected. The goat cheese bruschetta was fine, not worth writing home about and certainly not worth the price point. The caesar salad wasn't good, think Marriott midtown quality. The lasagna did not live up to what I was hoping for, but it was pretty...the Fiorello's lasagna (same owner) is much better. The Veal though is fire...prices are out of control on veal chops, but really get a veal chop when you're here. How often are you eating veal chops? We were served complimentary glasses of rosè, amuse bouche, and cookies (AFTER our included desserts) Our server told us how The Fireman Group owns this and 11 other places, to include a new spot, Cafe Fiorello that they just opened up in DC. If you win the lottery and want to waste lots of money on mediocre expensive food, here is the place! There were four of us, and only one found her dish ok - not great - and the rest really disliked what they got. Two were chicken dishes and weird -- flat like a pizza. And every main dish comes WITHOUT anything else -- a "half pasta" (their term) is $15 with sauce, $10 plain with butter. The main dish chicken dishes were almost $40 each (no side dish or pasta, just flat round strange dish.) Italian entrees of chicken and veal should be moist, right? Not here! The lasagna was not really Italian lasagna, not sure what it was. It was called Bolognese, but didn't see anything red on the plate. We are New Yorkers and have been eating Italian our entire lives. Why does this restaurant call itself Italian? And, the prices are beyond ridiculous, even for NY. A glass of chardonnay $28? We came here because our hotel restaurant was closed and we were nearby - it's across from part of Carnegie Hall. Have eaten in several places in the area and none are this insanely priced. Yes, we looked at the menu before ordering but were celebrating friendship and expected a great meal. We didn't look at the wine list. If you want a restaurant to avoid, this one goes on the top of the list. I don't think I've ever written such a bad review about a Manhattan restaurant and I have been writing them for several years. Please avoid this place. Go to the Carnegie Diner if you can - it's closeby and the food is really good, and you will have enough money over for the rest of the week. Trattoria Dell'Arte is a misnomer - it's not a trattoria, which is like a bistro, nor does it have anything to do with art or artists. A great choice for pre-theater dining. Don't be fooled by the view inside from the street, this place goes on and on with various rooms! The decor is bright and wild with colors and art. The shaved Brussels sprout salad was excellent and we enjoyed the pizza but I would not rank it as the "best in the city". Our server was friendly and very cognizant of people's show times. Loved seeing the dessert tray come out as that is such an old school concept! The place was alive and vibrant with a wide array of clientele so be sure to make a reservation! read more

My Mr.'s grandparents used to live around the corner and both his family and mine have been dining here since 1984. Last night we stopped in to have a late in the day for us dinner at 8:30pm: gem Caesar, garlic loaf, bechamel lasagne and lobster carbonara spaghetti, requisite tiramisu dessert.  While enjoying Sangiovese Montepulciano and reminiscing about the Milton Glaser imaginative decor, my Mr. teased me about my pointed, impatient watchfulness as I awaited our main dishes. It didn't appear to be an especially busy night but the mains were undoubtedly late as the bechamel and carbonara sauces were tepid and beginning to congeal when they arrived at the table.   I was hungry so didn't kvetch to the waiter to request a makeover to end up with reheated lobster or wait even longer for cooking an entire new dish. In hindsight for a near $200 dinner, requesting new mains would have been the smarter move. Waiter brought over a bakery tray of chocolate chocolate chip cookies afterwards and offered as many as we liked to us, to close out the meal. read more

The bathroom is downstairs and could use more frequent cleaning. Service was a bit slow due to how busy it was. We had the short rib meatballs and garlic loaf to start both were tasty. For entrées, the chicken pepperoni was delicious, and the linguine with clams and mussels was great, though I did bite into a bit of sand or shell. Dessert was a winner, the Amaretto ice cream dish was so good I ate every bite. They also passed around complimentary chocolate chip cookies, which was a nice touch. It was right across the street, so we could fully control our timing and not worry about being late for the show. The place was packed when we got there but since we had a reservation we were seated upon arrival. Service was a highlight throughout the meal. They had coat service, the staff was attentive, accommodating, and made sure we were well taken care of. The food came out fast too. We ordered some pizzas and pastas. If this review was regarding food, and only food alone, it would be a 5/5 stars. The service was poor. Not because the staff has a disregard to customers, but rather they are "short staffed." The food was absolutely delicious. The Restaurant is decorated with a mix of traditional Italian decor and abstract avant-garde wall art. If you get the chicken parmigiana[and you should because it's amazing], you don't need the side spaghetti--it's not very good, bland, and the absolute tiniest of portions; not worth 13 dollars [as it's .50 cents worth of the box pasta you buy from the store]. My coworkers and I came here for dinner recently while we were in town for a work event. Our waitress and support staff were wonderful. The food and wine were delicious. Such a great, local place. Loved it! To start, we dinner a salad and some of the antipasto veggie plates. We had the caprese salad: burrata mozzarella, avocado, and tomatoes. Always love burrata! Also had the Roman Fried Artichokes all Giudia - very flavorful. And we did a 3 veggie antipasto plate with mushrooms, Brussel sprouts and cauliflower bites. Everything was tasty. For entrees, there was a lot of pasta eating and big pieces of Chicken Parmigiana and Chicken Parmigiana alla Vodka. One person also had the Mediterranean Branzino Al Forno and really liked it. I had the Scallop & Porcini Mushroom Risotto. Loved all the flavors. The scallops were nicely cooked. For dessert, we shared a couple of things. Homemade Tartufo: chocolate & vanilla bean ice cream rolled in chocolate chunks. So good! And the Twin Cannoli: chocolate sauce & blueberries. This was one of the best cannolis I have ever had. We want here for a business lunch and had a great meal for a group of 5 of us. Service was prompt and friendly and especically for lunch it was appreciated. The ambiance was fine, but nothing over the top given the other restaurants in the area. The food was quite good having an a pizza with crispy thin crust as an appetizer and the carbonara as an entree. Prices may be a tad high for what you get, but given it's New York for a sit down restaurant, it wasn't unreasonable. Bottom line, I'd say it's a good place to stop in for lunch or dinner and expect I'll return given the proximity to the office where I work, but may not be a specific trip. read more

Last night we had tickets to Carnegie Hall for a show with an 8:00 curtain. We made reservations for 6:30 at the Trattoria Dell Arte and arrived on time. Our party of 4 ordered appetizers, drinks and entrees. The appetizers and drinks came in a timely fashion, however we did not receive our main courses. We queried the waiter who said he'd check with the kitchen. We had not received out main courses by 7:30. Finally we left and went to a nearby deli for takeout. They did comp the appetizers and drinks, but we had to leave before the food came to see the show. The service was terrible and we will not be returning. read more

Cynthia took great care of us at the bar and the manager, Marco, made sure that we had a great table after we were done with our drinks. All around, the service was excellent! Super nice staff and our waiter Jean was amazing from start to finish and we do not have a complaint. The food was excellent! Pizza has a hot honey drizzle I suggest going with it! It is not over done I promise it is better than it sounds. Meatballs were the best I have ever had! Finally both of the desserts were amazing. Another restaurant week deal: $45 dinner. I think pretty standard Italian food. The burrata mozzarella dish looks a bit sad; I'd say they def could have improved the decoration. The meat ball is good, and in the tomato sauce, you get some short rib. The pasta portion is a bit small imo, but the chicken portion compensated that. But the chicken I think is a bit overcooked so it's a little too dry/hard. Tiramisu is huge, but there is some liquor taste, which I don't like. read more

They kept us waiting for a very long time before taking our order. They also brought fresh baked cookies and didn't offer our table any. We had to ask. They also brought out the wrong dish for me. I asked for vodka sauce and I got regular red sauce and it hardly covered the pasta. I was so disappointed. This place is not cheap and they were very disappointing in their service.
