Every year we venture to Minnesota to visit family. Alma is our definitive destination. Never, in all my decades ( 6+) have I encountered a place that works so hard to ensure your comfort, pleasure and sense of belonging. If only I could rate Alma 10 stars, I would. Truly. The food is Delicious, beautifully presented, so thoughtfully curated. You are never rushed, it is all about the complete experience - ambience, service, cuisine, friendship, meaning.... As always and forever, thank you Alma, for an exquisitely perfect evening, as always.

This is a review specifically for the breakfast cafe. I was expecting to be critical after a super long wait from an online order past the estimated 20 mins but oh my God, the food overrode that completely. This is one of the best breakfast spots in the Twin Cities and rivals my love of Sun Street Breads. Corner Store - breakfast sandwich - 10/10 The bacon is thick cut and crispy, melty American cheese, toasted roll that tasted like brioche. Croissant - 10/10 This has got to be top 2 or 3 croissants I've ever had in Minneapolis. Crispy, flaky, buttery perfection. My wife and I make a habit of trying every little bakery and this is elite. Like early Bellecour days. Chocolate chip cookie - 9/10 Really good, chewy, good ratio of chocolate. Crazy busy because it's a weekend, I got it to go so I can't comment much on the ambience but it's a cute spot. They could probably triple their seating and still fill up. Price - 10/10 For the quality, I'm very impressed. UPDATE: returned the following day and we got the Up South sandwich as well. 10/10. Incredible biscuit, I don't usually like pimento cheese but it rivaled the Corner Store sandwich.

We have been to Alma 3x now and it never disappoints Great food that rotates seasonally. The staff know the menu well and are so attentive. We go here for special occasion dinners and it's perfect because of the chill vibe. You get a ton of delicious food and the menu is very unique. It's a special occasion dining spot without being pretentious. Parking can be hard, there are limited spots by the building otherwise it is street parking.

I went here for a cappuccino the other day and it was great! The coffee was high quality and the service was friendly. The reason I am giving this 4 stars is because the price was high, especially for 8 oz of liquid. There are no size options for that particular drink. The cafe is cute and I look forward to coming back for a meal.

Delicious! We got torta sorta and the sunshine helps sandwiches. Also, the goldy's spiced latte (seasonal special) was super tasty!! Kind staff and cute space. Recommend going for a walk on the river afterward!

This place is da bomb! Near the U of M, and attached to a hotel, this cafe is a delight. The vibe was perfect and as I watched the staff work while I waited for my order, they were the definition of efficiency. And the food! 5/5 on all items: steel cut oatmeal with brown sugar, apples, and pumpkin seeds / Ham Jam sandwich with onion jam and a touch of maple syrup, and rosemary smashed potatoes / pumpkin spice latte. I'm from across the river, but this cafe is worth the trip downtown! Note: I had to procure street parking, and was able to do so 1 block away.

Had an anniversary dinner here and it was fantastic. We tried the 6-course tasting menu with the wine pairings, and it was unbelievably decadent. All the wine pairings were spot on and we got to try both domestic and foreign varieties. This is easily one of the best dining experiences I have ever had. The place is classy, but not too pretentious. The staff and service were great. Everyone was so nice and thoughtful. I would love to come back if I'm ever in MN again

This is probably closer to a 3.5-star review as it wasn't quite a true 4, but was a bit better than a 3-star. Alma was a place that I had wanted to try for a very long time, and while some things hit the mark, the full experience left a bit to be desired. First off, service began a bit slow. Was probably a good 6-8 minutes once seated before anyone came with water or to even greet us. That wouldn't be a huge deal at a lesser establishment, but a high level of service should be a staple here. Luckily, it did pick up and improve from that point. The atmosphere was as advertised. Very chic, dim, and romantic. A bit cozy between tables, but all in all a solid environment to dine in. For food, there was a mix of outcomes. First up was a few little snack-type items including some cheese, breads, nuts, and olives. Nice little mix of small items. Next up was the Poached Pear & Endive Salad - a very unique, crispy, and enjoyable dish. The Duck Liver Pate was a bit overpowering, but a nice contrast in flavor to the other first plate. Following this were the pasta dishes, which were quite solid. The Meyer Lemon Orzo Pasta was fresh, the Alma Rigatoni was rich. The rigatoni was definitely one of the standouts of the evening and a borderline 5-star dish. For the main entree, the leg of lamb was good, but the accompaniments were a tad underwhelming. The meat was cooked well, was tender and flavorful. Overall, the dish was just maybe a hair above average. The second standout behind the rigatoni was the dessert, a Brown Butter Caramel Tarte. It was one of the best desserts I've had in quite some time! The sum of the parts left things in pretty good standout, but only 2 of the dishes really stood out for the level of venue that Alma falls within. The rest being closer to average or thereabouts left this experience a bit below expectation, but certainly not a terrible one by any stretch.

BLT, side salad, hand squeeze juice. Healthy and absolutely delicious.

Casual cafe vibe with delicious healthy food. Order at the counter, find a seat and relax! Some cute shopping items at the front counter, too. A nice stop for a lunch date before a walk along the river.

Went to Alma Cafe on a Saturday afternoon and found a cozy spot to enjoy a delicious latte and lunch. The place is so pretty and has such good ambiance. I ordered a rosemary maple latte (wow -- super yummy!) The Ham & Gruyère melt with crispy potatoes is by far some of the best things I've eaten in a long time. The potatoes were perfectly crisp on the outside and tender on the inside, with the right amount of saltiness. I've thought about how delicious tastes since I last had it. The service was great and super helpful when picking what to order. I'm thoroughly looking forward to going back!

After another amazing meal, I think that Alma is my favorite place in town for nicer dinners. They just do so many things really well from clever and well thought out cocktails to tasting menus that progress you through a broad theme in an incredible way. Some highlights this time were: Hiramasa Tartar was part of the Antipasti (which are always really clever). This one was so fresh and delicate that it made believers of non-raw friends. Smoked Wild Mushrooms was a very cool salad featuring those mushrooms and beets and a slight truffle flavor. Roasted Sea Scallops sat in a light coconut sauce with crazy good caukiflower Sweet Corn Cream. Brûlée was amazing. I doubted how it would work and was wrong. I could have eaten three. The service was amazing as usual. Anyone who has not been here needs to go here

Ice belongs in drinks not homes!

Exquisite. The saffron rice-chickpea-tahini plate is a top seller, and no wonder: it's delicious! They add crispy rice on top as an extra touch. The menu is wide, letting me eat vegetarian while one friend enjoyed a ham-butter sandwich and another, a turkey burger. Ice tea is strong and refillable. Chocolate chip cookie for dessert has the hidden treasure of crunchy cacao nibs, yum! No problem to order at counter and bus our own table, with the pleasure of real glassware, silverware and ceramic plates. I also like the curated collection of Alma home items at front of shop. This is a must-return for next visit to MN.

I got the traditional breakfast option of 2 eggs, hash, sausage and toast, but was also tempted by the french toast. The food was good, but not very plentiful. The food was also wonderful and featured classic dishes, including Minnesota favorites. We started with the bread service, which is a must-have. The bread slices are grilled to perfection, and the compound butter was on point. I started with the wild rice soup, which was very tasty indeed and really showcased the taste and texture of this local ingredient. For my main, I had the Impossible Burger. This was easily one of the best presentations of Impossible that I have enjoyed: savory mushrooms, crispy onions, melty cheese, and tangy whole grain mustard topped two juicy patties. Add in a pile of light and delicious fries? Goes perfectly with a Nah Hellen (which, incidentally, I was stoked to see--zero-proofers, Nicollet Island has you covered!). For dessert, I had the cheesecake. I chose wisely. This creamy, chocolatey slice of heaven is the perfect blend of tastes and textures: a bit of crunch from the Oreo crust, sweet from the caramel, a hint of tanginess from the cream cheese, and just the right amount of bitterness from the chocolate--my friends, it's a winner. If you're dining with someone else, be sure to ask for an extra fork (to defend your plate, not to share!).

Overall very good for a hospital cafe - 4 stars…read more 1. I have mixed feelings about Bridges Cafe. In general, this facility is impressive. They have a HUGE variety of food options...everything from a fresh fried griddle area, another fresh made area, a salad bar, pre-prepared foods in plastic containers of every type, pastries, cookies, chips, canned & bottled beverages, etc. All of these options are wonderful for people that are stuck in the hospital as a patient or a visitor, not to mention the hundreds of staff. 2. On the other hand, this is a hospital. I wonder about the virtue signaling of the "putting plants forward" initiative (see photo of sign), especially for someone like me that has managed to reverse my metabolic disease & dramatically improve all my blood labs by consciously & explicitly eliminating this stuff with the help of my physician. Worse, they have plenty of chips, cookies, pastries, and sugary beverages. But I also have to keep in mind that everyone has the free will to eat how they choose. And they have plenty of visitors & staff that can eat they way they choose. Hummm...so confusing. I'll let you decide for yourself about the morality all of this stuff. I wouldn't have thought much about these things if it wasn't a hospital and if there wasn't nutrition commentary throughout. Why not just offer the food without the messaging? 3. The dining area is impressive. It isn't fancy. But it has a killer view across the Mississippi and the West Bank (see photo). It's also large with a raised deck area in back. 4. Finally, I had a funny experience with a staff member. I happened to sit at a table next to a medical staff employee in full blue scrubs, face mask, and blue cap. When I sat down, she looked at me, she grabbed her purse, and she moved it from the floor near me to the floor on the side of her other leg, seemingly protecting it. Paranoid? Is there a lot of crime in the cafe? I was definitely worried about my Mom's heart procedure, not plotting to snatch someone's purse! I didn't think I looked scary or like a potential criminal, but I must have looked intimidating that day. Interesting. Thumbs up. -Maxx P.S. There's an awesome coffee shop on the 1st floor!
