(Bonus points for their flexibility--we had a surprise out of town guest who could join as well!) The menu has something to please every palate, from the vegans to the obligate carnivores. Ditto on the drink menu--they have a wonderful selection of beer and wine, and they have fun N/A options as well. The portions are generous (one person in our party ordered two appetizers and still had something to take home) and beautifully plated. I started with a green salad and loved the balance of tastes and textures. The greens were tender and crisp, the nuts crunchy, the chèvre yogurt creamy, and the dressing exactly right. (It was almost but not quite too pretty to eat.) For my main, I ordered the tofu hash, one of the vegan offerings. Flavored with a tasty chili sauce and fermented black beans, this was an intriguing and delicious entree. The sautéed vegetables were tender and beautifully complemented the crisp tofu and yucca, and the arugula salad added a refreshing element. There was a ton--I had leftovers for a truly delicious lunch. I also have to compliment their N/A selection. I ordered the Aplós Ume Spritz, and it was a very delightful way to start my meal. Light, sweet, and a pretty shade of pinkish-purple, it tasted just like a summer party. This would be a great place to grab dinner with friends, family, or that special someone. There is something to be said about this charming establishment. Our group sat outside on the left patio while live music played. To me, it did not feel like we were in the city, but more like we were in a rustic country tavern in a small town. To start, we shared a bunch of appetizers, which included: Chicken Taco, Brussels Sprouts, French Fries, and Gnoochi. We enjoyed everything. The portions were great for our group. I had the Norwegian Salmon and thought it was just right and over done plus the size was perfect because after sharing all those appetizers, I was not sure if I had enough room for a large entree plus I enjoyed the cute ginger beer. Finally made it to brunch one weekend while walking the pup and managed to snag the last, baked-daily, scone! Their dinner menu looks good but is a bit out of my price range. Brunch was much more in my wheelhouse. The service was excellent and it looks like they've got some regulars that come to the same patio table every weekend since they knew their orders and names. Speaking of, the patio is dog friendly but tiny. You definitely want to get there early and if you've got more than 1-2 folks expect to wait a while. The espresso was good and hit the spot on a gorgeous morning. I hadn't had a french omelet in forever so went with that. Textures were good, but I think it was relatively under-seasoned. Could have used some more salt, a sharper cheese, and/or more caramelization on the onions. The scones are baked each morning and there's only one batch, so they usually sell out in the first hour or so. It was a southern cake-y style scone and the jam was excellent. It paired perfectly with the espresso and is definitely worth the price. I'm looking forward to coming back to give some of the other items a shot. read more

My daughter and I enjoyed a brunch table for two before a matinee theater performance last weekend. I've always loved this tucked away neighborhood treasure (next to one of my favorite local bookstores). It's a small dining room but it just feels special when you step inside. The staff is friendly, the bar and kitchen are always quietly humming, and the inside feels quaint with European vibes. We loved the live music from the string musician in the corner! I had the tofu hash, and my daughter had a classic breakfast with hashbrowns, eggs, and bacon. It's all the extra touches that make it fun. My peach Bellini was a step up from a regular mimosa. The orange marmalade served with the toast on my daughter's breakfast was Outstanding! And I enjoyed the combination of the flavors in the hash and the side greens. But maybe the best of all was dessert of coconut tres leches. I adore this place for a meal or a coffee and treat...and the patio tables in the summer are great, too. read more

Went to this cute little restaurant for Mother's Day breakfast! We parked along the street and sat outside in the alley way underneath hanging lights and cover. I ordered the crab cake Benedict and iced vanilla latte. The Benedict had sooo many flavors and was so good! The only thing I wish it had was that it would have come with a side of potatoes or something in addition to the Benedict. For $20 it just wasn't filling enough for me personally. The iced vanilla latte also was lacking vanilla flavoring so I kindly asked for more and when it was returned it still tasted the same haha! Overall our service was great and our waitress was very kind/attentive. I recommend this spot for couples going out for a light bite or a place for friends to meet up. read more

The service was excellent--well-informed, engaging. Each dish--from appetizer to dessert--was so delicious. We shared 2 yummy appetizers (the gnocchi--wow), followed by 4 different dishes including one of their go-to standards steak frites (best frites in town). The wine was excellent. One of my favorite Minneapolis restaurants. Small, but busting with charm, character, and a quality experience in the beautiful London shills neighborhood. It sits inside a former fire station, located just blocks from a quaint boutique downtown and the Lake Harriet Park and bandshell. It's a tucked away treasure. One big drawback: lack of parking is a problem. Plan to walk 3+ blocks from street parking...which is a serious issue for groups with people of low mobility/disability. If you can visit this restaurant/cafe, do it! And share it with friends and family for a memorable, unique dining memory. read more

Was looking for some place for lunch on a cozy winter Friday and settled on Harriet Brasserie in Linden Hills. The building is an old fire station (I think) and exudes a great warm welcome with classic high ceilings and exposed brick. They don't offer a separate lunch menu, instead they have an all-purpose "brunch" menu with everything from traditional breakfast items to soups, sandwiches and even a duck taco. I opted for the Wild Acres Turkey Sandwich with bacon and roasted red pepper aioli (yummy) while my friend enjoyed one of the house specialties, the crab Benedict (succulent crab cake poached egg and hollandaise sauce-really good). Inside is bigger than it first appears and it wasn't hard getting a table at lunch. The real challenge is parking. I circled ever further around the maze of streets for 15 minutes before finally finding something several blocks away in a neighborhood. If possible, visit without a car! Solid service too. A Florida tourist group in Edina ... and we bump into Harriet (not really, a Brazilian friend had recommended it).. we had to give it a try! We loved the layout and location, with both an indoor and outdoor area, deco very cozy and clean. We immediately spotted some interesting Brazilian menu itens, like the Bauru and the Brigadeiro Chocolate Cake. Our waiter welcomed us with a complimentary sparking wine (nice!), and among other drinks we ordered the Wals Belo Ipê beer (11% alcohol by volume!), full body and crisp, very good... but enjoy with moderation. We started with the Mussels (tomato, cilantro, scallion, ginger, sambal, white wine, butter. Served with bread), which were excellent. Dishes ordered: the Lobster and Pork Belly, Steak Frites, Steak au Poivre, Pork Tenderloin and an extra side of Brussel Sprouts. They all were very good, although the Steaks were a bit on the tough side. Service was excellent and prices are fair. Recommended! read more

Alright y'all...if you are ordering take out a lot these days please consider getting a little something something from here because I've tried many of their dishes and you can tell how much effort they put in with every scrumptious bite. First off, this is a prime location for fun stuff. One of my favorite childhood bookstores is next door and the neighborhood has a bunch of cutesy shops to draw your attention and steal money from your wallet. That being said, parking can be a little cringey during peak hours but definitely spots on the street if you are good with the parallel. The interior is cozy but has amazing high ceilings that make it feel elegant, like a little European bistro. All of the staff are superbly lovely...super helpful and very respectful. Wine list is one of the best I've seen in the Twin Cities tbh. Not overcrowded but has a select number of gems. I just about died drinking their Barbera. Go to menu items: ropa vieja for bfast will fulfill your savory dreams, duck taco with its FIRE flavor pairings, green salad if you are trying to feel like a refreshed bougie babe on a warm day. They also have a bunch of vegan options to try which I def will add to the list. Great spot, definitely a must in the Linden Hills area! Come through! read more

Came for dinner - it was delicious! Tried the duck taco - great flavors. Absolutely loved the bison tartare! Would love to have it again. For dinner, we went with the pork and lobster. The lobster is shelled and cooked beautifully. The pork cut so wonderfully and melted in your mouth. We decided that we couldn't leave without dessert. I'm not a huge fan of coconut so the tres leches cake didn't seem too appealing (although it's gotten great reviews!), we went with the banana cream pie. It came with walnut ice cream. It was a nice presentation but nothing out of the ordinary. They have a small patio outside that is usually packed in the summers but there was enough seating inside. This place is a little pricey so be prepared. The food is local and your server will let you know if they're running low on a certain item or if it's not available. They have some popular dishes that run out pretty quick. read more

Cute little Linden Hills find with a delicious brunch! For me, brunch always becomes an internal debate of whether I am in the mood for sweet or savory. I almost always end up ordering both. Today I tried the Quiche Lorraine and the pancakes. The quiche was French style: exceptionally light and creamy, with loads of butter flavor in the crust and a hint of smokiness throughout from the bacon. My only biff was that it seemed like all of the bacon and onions sunk to the bottom of the quiche instead of being evenly distributed throughout. The pancakes came piping hot, smothered in crème fraîche and full of slices of banana and chocolate chips. There was again a strong butter flavor which made the pancakes perfectly crispy on the outside and soft on the inside. We added some pure maple syrup and finished the cakes in about 3.2 seconds. Absolutely delicious. The latte was also delicious, but I don't believe the orange juice was fresh squeezed. A small thing, but fresh squeezed is always my favorite with a big breakfast. Overall, a great first experience. We will definitely be back, especially when the weather permits a stroll through such a cute neighborhood. read more

Read some reviews on here and decided to try it out for brunch. We were fairly disappointed with our meal there for the following reasons: - We were told that they didn't have any more hollandaise sauce. I know we were there towards the end of the brunch, but I'm sorry, when you have like 3 items on the already smallish menu that come with hollandaise sauce, you should have it till the end...or make some. It's easy to make and is basically butter, lemon and eggs. I really wanted a Benedict, so disappointed with that, but not a deal breaker. - Ordered a bowl of the soup. At $10 for a bowl, which I think is pushing it on the price. That's a lot for a bowl of soup. Had to send it back, though, because I didn't care for it. First of all, it was cold, which I was not aware, and I can eat some cold soups, but not a cream-based one. And it was really rather flavorless. - One of our party ordered pancakes. They were like $12, and that's all they were...pancakes on a plate, not particularly large, with whip cream on top. Nothing else. I tried them and...meh. Nothing special. Our table also had the duck tacos and a side salad, both of which were good. Our server was fine. We would probably try it one more time, but not for brunch. It just wasn't that great. read more

I had a crab cake Benedict which was phenomenal and she had the crawfish grits. I loved that the Benedict came as a single rather than a pair, however I wish I had also tried to French toast because I was still a bit hungry. My daughter and I drifted over to the Harriet Brasserie [HB] the other night after deciding a potential 45+ minute wait at Tilia didn't work for us. We were seated immediately at what turned out to be the last available table. It was a very enjoyable evening. This was my first time in this space since it transitioned from Cafe Twenty-Eight. The new ownership has retained much the same cozy look and feel with seemingly few modifications. Overall it's clean, inviting, uncluttered, attractively lit and comfortably arranged. Our server Paul was a consummate pro, gracious, attentive and informative without being intrusive or pedantic. He displayed a thorough knowledge of the menu and offered welcomed input on various items we were considering. I started with an order of the PEI mussels which were outstanding. Fresh, tender and served with several slices of crostini to soak up the savory broth. Next time I won't let them whisk the bowl away until every drop has been consumed. I'm reasonably sure they would happily provide a few extra slices of toasted bread if asked. My daughter ordered a Wheatberry salad with an apple cider based dressing and I had the Duck Comfit Carbonara. The salad was delicious and well prepared. The pasta dish was dense, rich and deeply flavorful. Perfect for a cold autumn evening. It was so filling that I ended up taking half of it home. We shared a side of perfectly prepared, caramelized Brussels sprouts. We also shared a bright, pumpkin pie tart with a ginger snap garnish for dessert. I'm kind of a breakfast junkie. I find something I like and quickly become obsessed. Lately that something is breakfast, specifically with poached or dippy eggs, and especially eggs benedicts. I've been wanting to try this beautiful benedict since seeing it on yelp so today I finally made it over there. The place is small. Service was polite and friendly and fast. I asked if I could get my hollandaise on the side and she said no, that the chef refuses. Ok. But she told me it's light and there's not a lot. Ok. When it came out there was a lot of sauce but ok, I just kinda took some off with my fork. I like the sauce but I don't like so much of it. The egg was perfectly poached, the crab cake was good, and it sat on a little cornmeal pancake or something, which was also good. But it was small. You only get one, for $13. It's good, but kind of expensive for what you get, and it's not "OUT OF THIS WORLD TO DIE FOR" good or anything. It's just good. Overall I am glad I went but I don't really think I will be back unless I happen to be in the area. It's kind of out of the way for me so I wouldn't make a special trip again. read more

A late brunch on a Wednesday found it not crowded. Great intimate setting. Tables for 2 or 4 with nice wooden chairs, linen napkins. The coffee is good - care taken with the brewing & bean choice. It has a smooth light flavor, no citrus acidity, not bitter, and served at the right temperature. The soup of the day was butternut squash - delicious! I only had a couple spoonfuls because my wife would not let me have any more! The Crawfish & Grits was wonderful - a blend of flavors with the right spice to pleasantly stay with you for a bit. Soft-poached egg over the top of grits & crawfish and sauce & avocado. Simply wonderful. Quaint little place with much history. I ordered the crab cake Benedict and it came out smaller than I expected for $13 but nonetheless it was delicious. The avocado sauce was a bit overpowering with a strong acidic taste, so I much preferred the red sauce on the dish. My boyfriend order the crawfish and grits and he ran into the same problem, great taste overall but had a strong acidic taste in the dish that was a bit overpowering in certain aspects. He and I both expected a strong "Southern" spice for the dish, so we were a bit disappointed but then we reminded ourselves that this is the Midwest, so we shook it off like Ms. T-swift. Overall verdict, decently great brunch for a Midwesterner but what lacked in portion size made up for amble amount of variety in dishes.
