We went here before a show at the Guthrie. We had no reservations and knew there was a risk to that. We were able to have a short wait (10 mins) and then were able to get a table for 2. We each ordered a drink, a beer for the husband and I got "The Louisa May" (we were seeing little women). I was not sure how it would be but it turned out to be absolutely stunning! That drink was PERFECTION! We opted to split the burger as neither of us were starving, but were certainly in need of dinner. The burger was fantastic! We both absolutely loved the mix of the flavors. It came with a side of chips, tortilla chips that is, which was a little odd. They were certainly fresh and good, but also a very modest amount and tortilla chips were a bit of a strange mix. We were able to eat and get over to the show with time to spare. They certainly know how to navigate the preshow crowd. We would definitely be back in the future. read more

Farmers Kitchen + Bar is a convenient spot in the Mill District, especially if you're looking for somewhere to grab a coffee and get a little work done! They have a full sit-down restaurant, but there's also a separate grab-and-go coffee bar, which is what I've tried. I stopped in on a Wednesday afternoon and ordered one of their seasonal specials, the s'mores cold brew, but had it modified as an iced latte. It came topped with crushed graham crackers and mini marshmallows, which made for a cute presentation. I personally didn't taste much chocolate, though, so it wasn't my favorite drink I've had there. For working, there are high-top seats with easy access to outlets, plus free Wi-Fi, making it a convenient place to bring your laptop for a bit. If you use the Toast app, they also offer a $5 birthday reward! One thing to keep in mind is that Saturdays can get BUSY, especially during the summer when the Mill City Farmers Market is happening right next door. I've found that service can take a little while on Saturdays, so I wouldn't stop in expecting a super quick coffee if the market is in full swing. Overall, the coffee bar is a convenient addition to the neighborhood, and I love that you can either grab something to go or settle in with your laptop. Such a quaint Café in the middle of the Mill City area. I ordered the Hot Chai oatmeal latte with a shot of espresso 10/10. It was absolutely delicious, so dense and so out of this world. I was able to taste all of spice flavors of the chai and the espresso shot is an add on is from the professionally curated multi espresso machine. The barista knew what she was doing and she was exceptionally friendly and wow was my espresso so good I can't believe how good it is for not being like a coffee chain. My drink was like at the level of SpyHouse, and at the level of Dunn Brothers which have been my only go to in the North Loop area. I definitely will be back here for a latte when I'm in this area. read more

First time here. I went with two friends all of us ordered the turkey sandwich. The chips that come with them are salty and tasty! I substituted Mn wild rice soup instead of the chips, super yummy. Wandered in here for brunch after a brief google search, and was more than impressed. I love a Bloody Mary but it's really hard to find a good one. They're making one with Aquavit, and i think it might be the best one I've ever had. The service was friendly, attentive and knowledgeable. The scones and gravy should be called a scone eggs benedict, regardless it's fantastic. Strong flavors, great mix of textures, it was superbly executed. Even though it was a very busy lunchtime, rush, we were able to get a table for two. Service was pretty good. The framers breakfast features turkey sausage- which's is very dry. This is a small spot across the street from the Guthrie theater. Street parking was pretty easy to find, even within a couple of hours of the show performance. We couldn't get a reservation when we called a few days earlier, and we were lucky enough to get some barstools along the window. The server was very friendly, but drinks and food were quite slow to arrive. It must be very challenging in the kitchen as I'm imagining they probably have like the entire restaurant ordering at almost the same time prior to showtime? But now let's get to the heart of this review. The food I had was excellent. I was absolutely blown away by the daily special: harvest bowl with Delicata squash. Portions are generous, the food is fresh and flavorful. My dish had so many textures and just the right amount of sauce and garnishes and beautiful vegetables...definitely one of my favorite dishes of the year! We each ordered one of the specialty cocktails, which were tied to the themes of the currently running Guthrie shows, very clever. They were all tasty and beautifully presented. I really liked this place a lot, and would definitely come here again. Prime location for a restaurant but the food isn't great if you're a flavor lover like myself. Unfortunately the menu offerings are kind of bland for my taste but I would recommend to someone who has a tame palate. If you're looking for a bite before a show at the Guthrie I'd recommend taking the time to look elsewhere and then make your way to theatre. I've been to this place twice now and really like my second experience. First time around I went for lunch and liked the food but the ordering at the counter experience was not the best and I think didn't suit the restaurant. 5 stars for food and service 2 stars for coffee Right next to the Guthrie Center, Farmers Kitchen & Bar uses a number of locally sourced ingredients and it made my harvest bowl feel, well, harvested. Fresh and bright pesto, beautifully cooked grains, veggies and eggs. I really enjoyed the bowl. The cheesecake brownie tasted healthy, so I'll leave you to decide if that's a good or a bad thing for you. They weren't able to heat any of the baked goods. The coffee was meh. Really meh. I ordered the seasonal caramel apple latte. The milk wasn't too foamy to be a latte. The syrup was not locally or made in house. The truly unacceptable piece here was that my hot latte was already lukewarm by the time it reached the table. This is my biggest pet peeve. To charge $6, or any money at all for a hot drink that I can guarantee, sees this problem regularly, isn't ok in my book. The beets were perfectly marinated and the pecans were wonderful. My husband had a bowl which he enjoyed. We finished with a squash semifreddo with Carmel and walnuts. The food definitely tasted and looked very fresh! I loved the style and look of the restaurant and their offerings. Great staff, very friendly, and all smiles. I am not sure how I find these outstanding food spots on the first try but.... once again I found myself in an outstanding eatery right out of the gate. My friends and I took a short walk from our downtown hotel (Marquette) and made our way over to the Farmer's Kitchen + Bar for a casual dinner. The staff here is fantastic and Tyler took care of us for the evening. The entire shop has windows and you really get to be part of the residential experience watching all the bicycle riders and dogs walkers here. This was such a comfortable place to sit and relax in. Tyler came over and explained the menu. He took our drink order then upon delivery took our main meal order. After enjoying the cheese board with drinks, our main meal showed up. My burger was nothing less than outstanding. It was just so "fresh" even the lettuce and tomato were delicious along with the brioche bun. It's amazing how you can just taste the fresh. This is the whole principal of Farmers. My wife sliced roast beef on Ciabatta with red, and green peppers along with sliced onion was also excellent. Tender and tasty sliced beef wonderfully dressed. My friend commented that his grilled cheese sandwich was the best he ever had. Wow... This place just rocked it, a fantastic experience. I cannot recommend this place enough times. They have both indoor and outdoor seating, but as we were tired from the sun, we opted to sit inside the airconditioned indoor seating with ceiling to floor windows so we got plenty of light. I ordered the Wild Rice Waldorf salad which I loved! The lemon and pepper perfectly complement apples, cherries and wild rice with the baked chicken. My friend ordered the Harvest Bowl which she said was really filling. It did look good with its ample amount of grains, two poached eggs with tomatoes, squash and greens. My other friend was in a breakfast mode and ordered the Sunrise Beef Hash which she said was packed with flavor. It had a combination of white and orange potatoes, tons of vegies and grass -fed beef. I wasn't planning on eating here but we wanted to visit Mill Ruins park before heading to St Paul for the day and I didn't want to eat at a place I had already scoped out in a different direction. Walking in, there's promise. It the kind of place you order at the counter, get a number and find a seat yourself. There's a bar you can seat yourself at for service (I think) as well. I must say that it is really expensive for what you get. I will admit, the food was ok and the service was better than I thought because the people who bring you your food will absolutely get you something if you need something else, like hot sauce. However, I can't see how they justify $60 for two plates of eggs, bacon and toast. Actually, my bf got turkey sausage, which I wish I did because it seemed like the better value when I saw our two plates next to each other. Don't get me wrong, I am the type to spend too much $$$ on good food but this place did not seem to warrant that spending. It didn't help that my matcha latte was almost inedible. Granted, the person who made it was training and I could have gone back and complained but I hate doing that, even if it could have been a teaching moment. Super super slow service to no service at all Took maybe 45 mins for food, 15 mins to get the checks . Not to mention those waiters and waitresses just hang around the bar area chatting. I popped in to Farmer's Kitchen and Bar on a whim for a quick lunch and had no idea what to expect. The first thing I noticed was that it's in a super cool area. There's a lot going on outside which makes it the perfect place to grab lunch or work remotely. For example, we watched a guy on a motorized skateboard pulling his dog down the street in a cart. Food and a show? Look no further. The second thing I noticed is that the cool area results in a high price tag. We spent around $75 on two drinks and two entrees. The good news is that you order at the front counter and pay right away so you can leave as soon as you finish eating! I thought the food was good. If I'm being honest, it wasn't mind blowing for the price but I can't complain. The Spiced Apple Sidecar, however, was great! Strong - but not in a way that's offensive. I'm typically a light liquor person but I enjoyed the brandy and the portion was perfect. Overall, I enjoyed the vibe, the location, and the food. For the price, I would've loved to have food that altered my brain chemistry but maybe that's on me for ordering a burger. Fresh farm to table food for the conscientious eater! All around great service, food and location. It's positioned right next to the Guthrie Theater and walking distance to a beautifully manicured park. There is a bar attached to it, within the same space, but it all makes sense once you see the set up. I ordered the harvest bowl which had ample amount of grains, two poached eggs with tomatoes, squash and greens. I didn't feel any guilt eating the whole order in one sitting. It was fresh and very fulfilling. I also ordered a coffee latte with maple cream and coconut milk. It was just the right amount of sweet to savory ratio. The opening of Farmers brought a much-needed restaurant back to the Mill District, but it's also not without some downsides. The food here is pretty good, but not quite as good as the "Farmers Union" booth at the state fair, which it is supposed to be modeled after. The portion sizes are generally smaller and prices higher than at the fair, and high in general for a "fast-casual" type restaurant (picture an upscale, better version of a Panera, but with a full bar). We used to come here a lot for coffee, but two cups of regular coffee will now set you back close to $10 after tax and service charge, an obscene amount for batch-brew drip coffee. Their dishes are fairly good...we really like the "shore lunch" walleye sandwich, but again, prices are high for the portions. The cocktails are also tasty, but plan to spend close to $18 on just one fancy cocktail after tax and service charge. They are also closed both Monday and Tuesday, which is a huge bummer. Service is fairly quick and the outdoor seating is pleasant, so we still come here every once in a while, but not as much as we might if the prices were a little better. All in all, an ok choice in the Mill District, as long as you don't mind the prices. read more

This was my second attempt dining at Farmers Kitchen. Being so close to the Guthrie, there are points for location but beyond that, it is a disappointment. I recall my July experience being mediocre relative to food and service. This visit last night was a repeat review. While we were greeted and seated in a timely fashion, the server was not engaging. Everything was rote. Two (of three) of our meals arrived in reasonable time and we waited, assuming the third was close behind as nothing was said at the 'drop off'. I name it that, intentionally, as it was literally a drop and go by another wait person. After five minutes, I approached the bar to ask about meal 3. It was still being prepared??? No explanation. No apology. My dish, The Harvest Bowl, was mediocre. It was nondescript and without adding the optional protein, was more of a starter salad. The other two meals were described as "good". As we had an hour before the show started, we asked for a coffee dessert menu. We were told there was one dessert offering, cheesecake and that the coffee bar was closed but they could brew us drip coffee. One cup came right away. We waited 10 minutes for the second cup and even though cream was requested with the order, it came 5 minutes later. Two and through. Points for location and a relaxed atmosphere but after two mediocre (at best) experiences, I will not be returning. read more

Good food and fun drinks by the Guthrie and Mill City Museum. Came here for a quick bite before a show. The menu is pretty simple but the food is flavorful and fresh. And the bar puts out many interesting drinks. Ordered the wild rice soup and harvest salad. The soup was fine, but the salad was a bigger hit. The salad had a nice blend of greens, roasted squash, dried cranberries and pepitas, and was perfectly dressed with a tangy cider vinaigrette. We sat at the bar, and the bartender gave us great service, and we got to see him creating many fun drinks. You can also order directly from the coffee counter, which also offers a few pastries.
