I stopped by and ordered a New Mexican with pork sausage, cold brew and a coffee cake. The New Mexican was made fresh and was so hot. The flavor was good, although the green salsa could have been a little spicier in my opinion. My one complaint was that there was a hole in the foil wrapping the sandwich, so the sandwich kept dripping through and it was super messy. The coffee cake was good but the walnuts all sank to the bottom, so it felt a little unevenly distributed/every bite was different (it may be my personal preference that it be evenly distributed, others may not care). Service was friendly and fairly quickly and there's plenty of seating on the back patio. This is a fun little find! Would definitely come back and try more sandwiches. read more

1&1/2 Black and White Cookie specific review....When craving a black and white cookie when in the area recently, I remembered this long established place being noted for them at least 10-15ish years ago. I couldn't remember if I actually had one oh those many years back so can't attest to their historical quality but was not impressed with the one I got in the present day. The cookie was chalky, and cardboard like in consistency with he only real flavor profiling registering was overly starchy. Add to that the crucial ratio of cookie to topping was way off with way too much of said lousy cookie with an especially paltry allotment of the white half's topping. I actually wound up removing a good half of the bulging cookie and tossing it in the trash while trying to make the most of the remaining top sheet of cookie with the passable icing just like I did with God awful plastic-wrapped b&w's they used to sell in my HS cafeteria in the 90s. I left 5 dollars lighter, dejected by both the wasted calories I just ingested and the disturbing thought that as the cherished NYC icon that is the Black and White Cookie continues to become more obscure and hard to find with each passing year, that spots like this will mar the reputation of the great dessert for folks who may be trying it there for the first time. read more

Their Santa Fe breakfast sandwich with avocado, cheddar and a nice kick from green chiles is a particular favorite. Inventive muffins and pastries behind the counter too--a recent feta, olive and spinach scone was wonderfully savory and simply outstanding. Excellent lunch sandwiches and many assorted sides and soups/salads--some offerings may vary but their matzo ball soup is a particular lunch standout. I am very fond of this spot--staff is super friendly, place is small and cozy but with a surprisingly ample backyard for sitting on a nice day, and bonus points from me for their cool, quirky Mets memorabilia. I must say not everything is perfect--I've had a couple of heavily overcooked eggs and a couple of side salad containers that felt expensive and uninspired. It can get super busy here too, though they usually do their best to get everyone in and out in adequate time. I got the basic breakfast sandwich which was egg and cheese on a Portuguese roll. The bread was delicious and looks like most of their sandwiches are served on that. Many of the baristas working there are clearly there just to get a paycheck. They barely acknowledge you when you walk up to the counter, and don't bother to take your name for a coffee order. This results in confusion when they call out the name of the coffee, leaving it to you to figure out if it's your drink or not, among a crowded shop. They also "announce" the coffee drink when ready in a conversational volume, making picking up your drink difficult and confusing. The coffee is good, and the atmosphere is nice enough, but these employees have a really long way to go in learning about how to make things run smoothly, making it a difficult place to visit at times. There also seems to be no oversight to ensure things are running well, in what can become a very crowded space. I will be reducing my visits. read more

Honestly was really excited about this place but was very disappointed and don't typically write reviews but it was bad enough to do so- I was served an iced cappuccino that was pure white, I kindly asked the barista if she could maybe add another shot of espresso after trying it and she told me I could "wait back in the line to purchase another", I told her "it just tastes only like almond milk" and she replied "oh... yeah you can just wait in line again". Really cute spot! The people here are so friendly, they have a great selection of deli items and prepared foods, and a great assortment of different breakfast sandwiches. They've got a lovely and very spacious back patio, so it's a good spot to dine in. I ordered the New Mexican breakfast sandwich and it was soooo tasty - but fair warning, it is messy AF. They brought it out to me and I ended up with a huge mess because they didn't bring napkins with it (no knock on them, I should have grabbed some myself) but ended up having a huge mess putting my mask back on with egg all over my hands, getting egg on the doorknob etc when going back inside to get napkins. So fair warning: LOTS of napkins, and grab them BEFORE you get your food taken to you outside! Aside from that though, the sandwich was fabulous. I'd absolutely order another or try more of their other options. My 1 star reduction - the bathroom was kind of messy/gross, and the iced chai wasn't good here. I was feeling optimistic this morning. I woke up early. Made tea at home. Dropped off a package. I obviously deserved a treat. A breakfast sandwich would do. I've been skeptical of Pecks ever since I moved to the neighborhood because I'd been underwhelmed by the matcha at Peckish (the Peck's outpost down the street). But my roommate highly recommended the breakfast sandwiches at Peck's and so I had to see what the deal was for myself. I got the Leo, which is appropriately named. Much like a fire sign, this sandwich was doing the most. There was smoked salmon, capers, cream cheese, grilled (caramelized??) onions, and not one but TWO runny fried eggs. All sandwiched by a fluffy Portuguese bun. I knew, going into it, that this sandwich would either be the best thing I've ever put in my mouth or tragically the worst. Luckily for Peck's it was the former. I will say, if you know anything about Leos you know that they are equally as hated as they are loved. Sometimes they can be a lot. And you have to be ready for their energy. I would say the same is true for this sandwich, so proceed with caution. Moral of the story: Judge a coffee shop not by its matcha, but by its breakfast sandwiches. read more

The quality of the breakfast sandwiches has really fallen off, which is really disappointing considering they cost ~$15. Recently, I ordered a New Mexican sandwich, which came with the hardest, most unripe avocado i've ever eaten and an egg that had been cooked WAY too long. If you're not going to break the yolk, please do not overcook the egg until the center resembles a hard, dry hockey puck. When I landed in New York this morning the first place my friend took me was Perk's! It had a long line so I knew it'd be good. I ordered an iced vanilla latte with almond milk and a piece of coffee cake. The cake was incredible: thick, rich, and with fudgy swirls reminiscent of babka. The iced latte was also solid, albeit a little too milky for my taste (it would've been perfect with an extra shot.) Stopped in Pecks mainly because it was the only cafe I could find with covered outdoor seating in the area (it was raining) and overall thought it was pretty good. I ordered a drip coffee and egg sandwich, the latter of which took a long time to come out. Probably waited around 20 minutes in the front of the cafe, which is kind of long for an egg and cheese sandwich. They only had one cook though, so probably just need to hire more people. The coffee was really good though and would definitely get again! read more

I debated what rating I was going to give this place because honestly the food isn't bad- had the matcha latte which wasn't sweet (how I like it) and a delicious egg sandwich. However... the service here was so bad I don't think I'll come back. Tbh, went to the other store front a walk away to get pastries because I was so appalled. For this place- Went on an easy mid-morning weekday, and it took nearly an hour (only know this because I looked at the receipt time) to get my egg sandwich. An HOUR. I think after half an hour was the first time I inquired about my food... they honestly probably forgot. Having worked in the food industry before I know that happens... and I know it can be hard during these times and with possibly new staff that you may be training... but what threw me for a loop was that there was no acknowledgement that this shouldn't have happened. I think I had to inquire twice more after and all I got was "it's coming." And it came... but like... an hour for a breakfast sandwich? Really? Been awhile some I've seen such poor service. read more
