I had a dinner with my friends. I live in NY Ana had to plan it for 18 people. I called and spoke with Simo and he was amazing! He helped me plan everything detail down to the custom menu. He was responsive aha so accommodating. The food is out of this world. The service is top notch. We are in the private room and they did not miss a beat. My friends all raved about. We were all from out of town except for one. He's another thing. I told you I'm from NY. Our dinner was game 5 of the NBA Finals. I asked Simo if we there was a TV in the room. Top notch service and truly one of the best places to go for a special occasion. I would say the 3.5 star average here is exactly correct, but going with 4 because I do really love coming in and often bring guests. That being said, not everything on the menu is a winner (especially food) and you have to go in knowing what's tasty (prime rib) and what's skippable (most other dishes). Their happy hour bites are truly just bites but a fun way to snack and gab and sip. I love chatting with the bar staff and there's really no place like RG. You get kind of transported back in time with the live piano player, the leopard print carpet, and the PEOPLE WATCHING. The reason to come to RG is the people watching. I dined here for dinner as part of a travel group. Our menu was limited because we were so large but everything was absolutely delicious. The prime rib was perfectly cooked. I typically do not care for Caesar salads but the one at Rittenhouse was spectacular. Service was great, for us being a group of around 40 the service was on point. Rittenhouse Grill fit the bill and is located close to City Center, Made a reservation ahead of time on open table and probably didn't need it but we went during the week so the weekend might be different. Intimate setting would be a great place for a date night or special occasion. The food was cooked to perfection and was delicious. My only complaint was the service. Service was slow and drink refills did not happen. For a high end restaurant you expect top notch service and this was not it. To top it off,if bill is over a certain amount than a gratuity is automatically added to the bill which would have been fine had the experience been better. Pix are of the dessert (chocolate mousse pie) and appetizer, applewood smoked bacon with a maple sauce, i think, that was absolutely perfect. Between these two items we had the wedge salad, filet mignon and mashed potatoes (me) and my husband went a little piggy and got the lobster bisque, rack of lamb, lobster tail and au gratin potatoes but we forgot to take pix of those lol. Our waiter Armando was so awesome and really made our night extra apecial. It was only his 6th shift too! There was a piano player who played happy birthday twice for me, first when he started (around 8p) and second when the owner brought the dessert out with a candle and spoke with us for a moment. He also picked up dessert which was so sweet! Speaking of the check, they do an auto 20% gratuity which didn't bother us as we tip 25%, so we popped some cash in the check presenter to bring it up to that. The steak was phenomenal. Loved that there was a piano player. Very classy vibe. However, I do feel that the automatic gratuity seems to make some of the service staff a bit complacent. I get that they probably need to do that because hotel guests aren't always good tippers. But it was a little ridiculous. We were seated for 10 minutes before we were approached for a drink order, but we hadn't been given menus. The server said, "oh, you want menus?" Like that was in some way surprising. Upon my first trip to Philly I opted to stay in the Warwick Hotel Rittenhouse Square. It's delightful, and located in it's lobby is Rittenhouse Grill. I arrived to my hotel after a day of exploring and thought - it seems time for a martini. Who doesn't love a good steakhouse martini? I sure do. Imagine my surprise and also delight when I discovered they have happy hour from 4:30 - 6:30 Wednesday - Friday and martinis are *drumroll please* $9!!! Never have I seen such a deal in all my happy hour exploration, and trust that this is one of my favorite pastimes. They offer Dirty martinis, cosmos, manhattans and margaritas for $9 and select wines for $8 and select beer for $5. While I had just discovered this amazing deal, it appears Philly knows what's up. Right at 5 pm, the bar got totally packed with people ready to live their best discounted cocktail life. They also have select bites for under $10. The real star of the show tho, seems to be the prime rib. While I did not order it, the seasoned happy hour pros surrounding me all opted for this. It was the best people watching, as RG seems to have its regulars and Adam the friendly bartender seems to have their orders ready on deck. I loved everything about it and will most likely return on my trip. Picturesque and right out of a movie, the interior is old mahogany and dark with candle light. Everyone there is dressed as business executives. This was our Valentine's date night and as much as we wanted to love it, we just couldn't. Our steaks were the tastiest things we tried, but for the price tag, they just weren't the quality we expected. We've had great steaks at other steakhouses around the city that taste so worth their price, and these just weren't it. The wine we ordered was fine, but was labeled a Cellar Reserve and way overpriced for being able to find it down the road much cheaper at a liquor store. We weren't told about any specials for the holiday, not sure if they just didn't have them or it was forgotten about. The potato skins were not very flavorful and the au gratin potatoes were chunky and had unmelted cheese within. The Caesar salad was fine, but the real bummer was our fries...we noticed a small hair stuck to the top after trying one or two. After that we really didn't want to eat anything else. It took a long time for our waiter to come check on us and take the fries away. He apologized and took them off the bill, and then a manager or owner gave us 10% off for next time. No offense, but we won't be using that as we just can't justify going again. We get mistakes happen, but at the same time this hasn't happened at any restaurant we've been to in the city since moving here and it really bummed out our holiday. This is also marketed as higher end so for a mistake like this to happen was even more unexpected. We were offered free dessert and tried to refuse, but also didn't want to be rude with how persistent our waiter was. We said no thanks once but he left the menu anyway and came back a minute later to see if we changed our minds. We probably should have stuck to our instinct, but we had a few bites of a raspberry sorbet that tasted mediocre instead before asking for the check. I couldn't help but to also notice how we were rarely checked in on until when our food was first out, but after there was an issue we saw our waiter much more frequently asking what we needed. It's important to treat all consumers attentively, not just ones that find a problem. We left pretty unsatisfied and with a large bill, with 20% gratuity already added. With how many other fabulous businesses we know in the city, we won't be back. read more

I sat at bar seating, ordering the prime rib sandwich. The sandwich itself was decent- nothing special, but not bad either. The accompanying potato skins were unfortunately burnt to a crisp. I am very tolerant of crispy skins but even trying to cut these with a fork made them turn into dust. After dinner it took a while to close out, but eventually came. I heard rumors that the prime rib sandwich at Rittenhouse Grill was the best sandwich in Philly. I stopped by for happy hour one day to see for myself. But before I got the main event I tried the coconut shrimp appetizer. They were two of the biggest shrimp I have ever seen, perfectly fried with a delicious cocktail sauce. Things were off to a good start. Then came the main event, the prime rib sandwich. This prime rib was unbelievably tender and juicy. The bread was so soft and perfectly soaked up not just the meat juices, but the beef broth that comes with the sandwich in a little bowl. You can dip it in the bowl of broth like a french dip sandwich. I've definitely never had a sandwich quite like this one. It's hard to say for sure it's the very best sandwich in a great sandwich city like Philly, but a good argument can definitely be made for it. It did not disappoint. It is expensive, so not everyone would want to pay that price. It came with potato skins that were just OK. I had the chocolate mud pie for dessert. If you love chocolate like I do you will love this dessert. The cocktails were also very good, and discounted for Happy Hour. The atmosphere was very friendly, you can meet people at the bar during happy hour, and there was a pianist playing soft music in the background. I liked Rittenhouse Grill so much that I went back a couple of weeks later to watch the Phillies game and get that sandwich again. I had the sandwich with fries this time, which i liked better than the potato skins. I also tried the lamb chop appetizer. It's two perfectly cooked juicy lamb chops. I can only review the ambiance and Happy Hour fare. The Friends of the Avenue of the Arts held a meet and greet during Happy Hour serving drink specials and hors d'oeuvres. Considering the restaurant is in Center City and the COVID adjustments to the streets to accommodate outdoor dining parking was fairly easy. The restaurant is beautiful a dark but with lively old Hollywood feel, very inviting. I started in the bar area it's a nice space but I little too tight for me. Before COVID I'm sure it wasn't an issue. As for dining there are several spaces that can accommodate any need. There's a piano, we were graced with great soft but familiar music. I enjoyed the hors d'oeuvres of potato skins and steak rolls. There were several drink options I went with the bubbly rosé later I ordered the lamb chop duo they were tender and tasty. We invited and celebrated a special event with two other couples. Five of us had the Prime Rib. One ordered Salmon. Three of the Rib entrees were basically inedible. Only the fatty perimeters were tender. The rest of the meat couldn't be cut through with the steak knife, not to mention chewing it. We left over more than half each. It doesn't matter if the ambience is elegant. It doesn't matter if the service is excellent. What we will remember is the food. We have visited here before and have had a much better experiences.
