This place has a lot of varieties of Vietnamese food/snacks/drinks to pick from. The items I usually get are their banh mi, sesame balls, spring rolls, Che troi nuoc and banh bao. I get off work at 7 in the morning & this is my go to spot if I'm hungry after work & wanting a quick snack. Don't stop here & not order their banh mi, for $3 dollars they're really generous on the portions. I've been to so many banh mi places & the prices range from $4-$6 and they're not as good nor do they give you enough meat. If you came to this place because of Infatuation or some other influencer telling you this is the best banh mi in Houston, turn back now. This is far from the best in Houston. The bread does not taste fresh and the meats are sitting out for hours. The place was completely empty with no customers meaning there's probably no good turn over of the ingredients like at busy places like Don. The service is also awful. The lady making your banh mi will give you attitude if she doesn't understand what you want. They also charge $1 extra for asking for a bit more pate or butter. Their banh bot lot was all raw when I opened it up. I decided to go back inside to tell them it was raw and the lady and the guy kept saying it was cooked when it wasn't. She took it back in fhkitchen to reheat it up but after I open it up it was still really raw inside. CASH ONLY! Alpha Bakery & Deli is located inside the Hong Kong Marketplace (a giant plaza with Ocean Market), behind the AT&T store. Luckily, they weren't busy at the time (3pm on a Monday), and we were able to order right away. In addition to banh mi, they also sell pre-packaged items and desserts, all the usuals you would expect to see at a Vietnamese deli/shop. For their banh mi area, I liked that you could see all the ingredients, and how fresh they looked. Also, their prices were a STEAL at $4 (for most banh mi's (compared to Bay Area prices ranging from $6.50-$14!!). I actually thought they had forgotten my mayo altogether, but you can see it in the photo. For the price, I would come back if in the area to try some of their other sandwiches, and their cooked items. An ATM is available in the store if you need to withdraw cash. Alpha Bakery & Deli now has a bistro that is attached to the original sandwich shop which is more of a full-service, sit-down restaurant. I stopped by for dinner tonight. Most of the staff was on the original sandwich shop side, which is busier than the bistro side. I had to flag someone down to be seated and served. A girl reluctantly came to the bistro side to take my order. I ordered the Bun Bo Hue, which was posted on a signboard outside the bistro as one of the specials of the day. I also ordered chicken wings, which came in either Chien bo (fried in butter) or Nuoc mam (fish sauce) glazed. I chose the latter and also ordered water. The Bun Bo Hue came out very fast, while it took some time for the wings to arrive. The Bun Bo Hue had a savory and spicy broth, a good amount of meats, congealed pig blood cubes, pork hocks, spices, and noodles. The wings were wonderful, and had a good flavor to them. While the food was wonderful, it seems that the bistro is off to a rocky start--the service was halting, with my server only taking my order and serving my food...she never came by to refill my drink, or to even check up on me! Other patrons came in looking bewildered that there is no one there to seat them. When it came time to pay, I had to stick my head behind the counter to wave at the server girl to let her know I was ready! Furthermore, it is cash only, which is acceptable for a fast food operation like the sandwich shop, but not a good idea for a sit-down, full-service concept! My faves: Banh Uot (banh cuon but no filling) - comes with pickled carrots and daikon, cucumber slices, bean sprouts, pork roll slices and sauce (ngoc nam). This is life. Fresh and delicious. Combo banh mi - I can't explain how good it is. It's the combo of the bread and filling. The bread stays so crispy. You won't regret it. Mooncakes (in season) - so flaky on the outside and soft and chewy and flavorful on the inside. They also have various desserts like banh da lon, and the cold desserts (in cups). Yesterday around 2:30 pm I ordered 10 banh mi with vegetables inside not toasted. I took it home and reheated it in the oven, when it was done it was time to eat. The banh mi tastes kinda off like it had a sour taste to it. I think one of the meat was old and they were trying to serve it to us. I called them and the guy that works as a cashier picked up the phone and I had told him about the spoiled meat, he hung up the phone on me, I called again like 2 times and it lead to voicemail. I remember the times when I stopped by here to get Bánh Mí after my parents went grocery shopping in Hong Kong City Market or the times I was around the mall to get my haircut. Also I remember the times when the sandwiches were $2.50 but now it's $3.00. I always make it a definite stop to get Bánh Mí at Alpha Bakery. I am long time regular and they ladies that operate the business always recognize me and greet me with a smile. However, I have a bad experience with them recently. Last Sunday, 11/8/20, my husband and I stopped by the store to buy some to-go food, since the stores has lots of take-outs food, and they're smell really good from outside. We ordered many things, from the sandwiches, coffees, steam port bun (banh bao), fried pork bun, steam honeycomb cake, to a box of some bean (?) (with no label, no expiration date). I first tasted the coffee, then throw it away... It was HORRIBLE coffee that I never have in my life!!! Next, the box with some beans smell like a foul oil. I have tried one little tiny piece, then threw the whole box away. The story wouldn't be end here. My husband ate the steam honeycomb together with the fried flour cake (banh bo banh tieu) 5:00 pm ish. Around 12:00am, he got food poisoning! His stomach got cramped as he thought he was going to die. He felt that he wanted to vomit, his head hurt...! sweat all over his body!!!
