Fast, caring, not pushy and not pricey! I brought both by dogs for wellness exams and vaccines. My appointment was at 1 pm and I was checked in, and in a room with the doctor by 1:10. The technician Cati was SO sweet! I have a spicy boy (little brown dog) and she didn't make me feel bad about it at all! She was patient, a great restrainer and even drew blood IN the room for his tests. That was nice, I got to stay with him! They had a relief doctor (can't remember her name) but she was so chill and relaxed too. She gave me an estimate for dentals and didn't push the price on me at all. I haven't been to this Alphine hospital for awhile and the service has changed so much since I took my dog there the first time. My dog had an issue with her leg. I find the vet to be unprofessional. She didn't even want to examine my dog's paw until I insisted that she at least take a look. I just had a very uneasy feeling about her because she didn't explain things. I wouldn't trust any one to touch my dog unless that person can logically tell me what's wrong and address my concerns. And she didn't look as if she cared about my dog. She prescribed a list of things that I need to sign up for ... even before the x-ray is done. I am an engineer. And I believe doctors for animals and humans need to be logical. You can't set up a list that I need to sign up for without any tests yet. And besides, if the x-ray shows major concerns, I want to get second opinions on the treatments! Humans are allowed the freedom to get second opinions! BUT NO, they don't allow that! They want me to sign my dog's life away on their way of treatment! No way I was going to subject my dog to such inhuman process. Thanks God, I refused service and asked if it was her dog, where would she trust her pets' care? She recommended an ER hospital in Redwood City. She said it may take a few hours wait. At this point, I don't care if it takes a whole day! I would go there to get peace of mind that my dog has the best care. I went there and A WORLD of difference! The vet was very nice and logical. She didn't use any scare tactic. Examined my dog and asked lots of questions and offered multiple options. She didn't even pressure me into getting an x-ray. I said I wanted an x-ray. She explained the procedure and gave me a quote for the x-ray + pre-x-ray tests for sedations/pain meds. At this point, I felt very comfortable with the professional facility and vet. I left my dog with them to for the x-ray. Then I was allowed to take my dog home to rest (unlike the Alpine's requirement to make my dog stay with them!) Yes, my dog was traumatized from the sedation and x-ray, but she was allowed to come home to rest. More importantly, if the x-ray shows fractures, she will be cared for by specialists. read more

I've been bringing my dog here for over 10 years, but I will not be doing so again and I strongly encourage others to do the same. Each year this place has gotten worse and worse. The number one priority of this business is to maximize their profits, it's not to help our pets. Furthermore, the quality of the employees hired here seems to continually degrade. The staff is incompetent and rude, it seems they do not know that they are working in a service industry. Avoid this clinic at all costs, there are far better options in the South Bay, and this is coming from someone who has been bringing his best friend here for the past 10+ years. read more

PART 2 (Phoebe) Long story short, I get to the location around 1ish & ask to speak to Dr. Cha. A vet tech speaks to me first and assures me that Phoebe is not in any pain & is doing just fine. "This is my dog. She is not a child- she cannot speak. She cannot tell me what happened, she cannot tell me what or how she's feeling." But again the vet tech reassures me that she can try and understand what my boyfriend and I are going through, but Phoebe is fine. After so much back and forth of me saying "she is a dog who cannot speak" & the vet tech telling me Phoebe is not in any pain I finally tell her "if she was bleeding, she was in pain at some point. Blood equates pain" silence At this point no one has given me Phoebe. Dr. Cha finally comes out to speak with me & tries to give me the same spiel she gave me on the phone. At this point, I no longer care WHAT happened I care about WHY she as a professional CHOSE to try and force something down my dog's throat when she saw it was not going to fit. She proceeded to then BLAME HER VET TECH. I want to make it clear that we were not arguing, we were not yelling, there was no swearing but I was visibly upset. When I asked why the specialist was not there to assist with the surgery, Dr. Cha told me that there was no specialist. I was floored. She called me a liar, she would never say such a thing, there was no specialist, etc etc. We went back and forth - I asked her if she remembered our previous visit when we spoke to her about the surgery & she claimed she did. She remembered everything BUT the specialist part. I was lying, she did not say there was a specialist. I told her my boyfriend called after she and I spoke and spoke to a vet tech who not only offered us a refund, but told us we could reschedule WITH A SPECIALIST PRESENT. "So who is this specialist that apparently does not exist that you all keep telling us about?" She turned to the vet tech and asked who my boyfriend spoke to. The vet tech didn't say anything. Dr. Cha turned to the rest of the staff who were in the lobby area and no one uttered a word. I finally tell Dr. Cha that I'm done speaking with her- she's unprofessional, no help at all and I wasn't going to waste another minute speaking with her. She chuckled and walked away. I asked the vet tech to bring me my dog and I was finally able to leave. As I'm walking out the door they tell me, "the office manager will call you tomorrow." Okay, what's that going to do? They shaved her in a few spots which then scabbed over. My poor puppy has not been the same since Wednesday, 10/26. What was once a happy, friendly, playful puppy is now a scared, jittery, anxious pup. It's been 7 days. She didn't eat, she didn't even want to put on her harness to go outside after I brought her home. The next day I find a vet, explained what happened and for my own records I sent Alpine an email asking for Phoebe's records, along with a breakdown of what happened the previous day & how much anesthesia she was given. I receive a response hours later telling me Phoebe wasn't given any anesthesia, but she was given Propofol. Guess what, y'all? Propofol is an anesthesia. I'm so fed up at this point, I call them (keeping in mind I haven't heard from the manager). They put me on hold and I finally have a chance to speak with the manager on 10/27. To summarize our conversation * they DO have a specialist they work with. The office manager is the one who makes appointments with said specialist to come in and assist with anything * she had never even heard of Phoebe, she did not receive a request for the specialist. She found out about Phoebe AFTER I left and had my encounter with Dr. Cha Honestly, more happened and more things were said but this is the gist. PLEASE READ. DO NOT BRING YOUR PETS HERE FOR THE LOVE OF GOD. Part 1 of 2 I waited 7 days to post this review because our experience was THAT HORRIBLE. I'm not even going to touch base with the issues we've had since the very beginning of our journey with Alpine Animal Hospital (May 2022) because at this point it doesn't even matter. We have an almost 10 month English Bulldog, Phoebe, and as many bulldogs do- she has cherry eye on both eyes. I initially did NOT want to go with this vet to perform the procedure because I just did not trust them (based on previous experiences with them). We did our research, found a reputable specialist who could perform the surgery and we were getting ready to move forward with doing so. We went to Alpine for a general check up (shots) when her cherry eye came up with Dr. Heeyun Cha- & the universe knows if I could back to this moment I wouldn't have said a word about it- who mentioned that the procedure could be done there. We went over statistics, pricing, after care, etc & Dr. Cha let us know that SHE had NEVER worked on an English Bulldog (only Shitzhu's), BUT they have a specialist that they work with who has worked with bulldogs and is familiar/comfortable with the breed. Said specialist would be called in to perform/assist with the surgery. We decided to move forward with the procedure being done here- BIGGEST REGRET OF MY LIFE. We scheduled her blood work for 10/13 & that went fine. Her surgery was scheduled for Wednesday, 10/26. Come Wednesday, 10/26, I drop her off a little after 8 am (roughly 8:06 am), filled out some paper work where Phoebe's name was spelled incorrectly, her age was not correct, my name was spelled incorrectly but anyway- easy fix. I leave a few minutes later and cross my fingers that everything goes smoothly. I get a call a little before noon from Dr. Cha who tells me that she does not feel comfortable following through with the procedure. Why? Because my 9 month old puppy was coughing up blood and for lack of better words not doing well. They attempted to put a tube down her throat (I assume to help her breathe while she was under anesthesia) which was too large. Instead of I don't know- stopping, or grabbing a different size- they decided to try and MAKE IT FIT which caused her to cough up blood. At this point, I ask Dr. Cha if Phoebe is okay & if any medication/antibiotics will be needed for her throat. "No.. I don't understand.. why would that be needed? She's fine but I don't feel comfortable doing the surgery" . Okay. I ask if I can pick her up and she tells me she'd prefer to keep Phoebe a little longer to monitor her breathing, ensure she doesn't throw up, etc. Fine, I tell her I'll pick her up around 12:30-1 & that's that. My boyfriend decided to call to get a better understanding of what happened. Dr. Cha tells him that she wants to monitor Phoebe for a blood clot?? Oh but we didn't need to worry, they were going to refund us the NON - REFUNDABLE deposit for the surgery. Not only that, but we could reschedule and they'd call a specialist who works with the hospital who can perform this surgery. All is good, right? WHAT! I would highly recommend avoiding this place. I have a coworker who's wife worked here and she quit due to bad management, lack of staff, and practices there. The first round of shots my dog got included a nail trim and when we took him there, they didn't even do the nail trim. Got bad vibes from the place at that encounter but I bought a puppy package for shots so I had to go back. I only returned today because I have a credit on my account. For a visit with vaccinations and a neuter consult they wanted nearly 800 dollars from me. I was shocked at the price. I told them never mind about the consult. Another thing that weirded me out was they mentioned that the Dr they had working wasn't one normally there, and they were new or something. They're still not allowing owners into the clinic, which as you can imagine can be stressful for some pets. My dog doesn't have separation anxiety. He is very friendly and loves all. I was waiting in my car and I could see the vet tech try to weigh my dog and she was PULLING and tugging on the leash to try to get him to stay on the scale. I felt so terrible. My dog looked stressed out from this encounter when just a few seconds ago he was happy to go in with this vet tech. I felt like I should of knocked on the door and intervened at this point. I get a call 15 mins later and they tell me that my dog is unmanageable. That he was trying to bite the Dr and 2 other vet techs. And that they couldn't get a muzzle on him. Very scary to think about the encounter they had with my dog. They prescribed 2 medicines to get him to be sedated before the next appointment. I do not trust them. I will not be returning. The other stores I have read in their Yelp page are terrifying. They all seem to have 1 star ratings as a trend for the last few months. Save yourself the trouble and go somewhere else? read more

The vets and staff here have always taken very good care of our little Schnoodle. She recently had to have some teeth extracted which was more traumatic for us than for her. They did a great job , with attentive and thorough pre-op testing , aftercare and follow-up. And now that the affected teeth are gone, she has no bad breath! Highly recommend read more

My family and I had been taking our 3 year old German shepherd with them for a while. Our dog was having issues and even puking blood at times. We took our dog every time this occurred and we paid everything we needed to in order for them to give us an answer as to why it was happening. They never did. Our dog puked blood one day and we rushed him to the E.R.and we weren't getting any information on him but we could feel our dog was not doing ok. That same night they told us the issue on what our dog had but they couldn't do anything to help us. We unfortunately had to put our dog down. Like they told us, this could have all been prevented sooner to stop it before hand. So we asked them the same thing. Why didn't they see this sooner within a span of a year to see what was wrong with our dog since that's when we saw our dog doing that. Each time we paid whatever was necessary meaning thousands of dollars to be able to get a solution or answer however, it took them until his death to find a solution. We will never be coming back to this place again and we are moving our services. This was such a big shock and a sad moment for my family and I. Please take your services elsewhere if you still want your pet alive, Please! For now we remember our dog as a good boy who will be missed by many. read more

This hospital is an okay choice for routine shots, but anything more than that, you have to request a full time doctor, not their Saturday guy. He couldn't do what I came in specifically to get done, which is lame, because they had done the same thing in the past. Their fill in guy just had limited skills. Too bad they don't charge less for an appointment with him. I had video of my dog sitting some spasms that I couldn't email over to them. I didn't bother with their second string doctor. Maybe the other doctor will look at them later, but I figured the other guy want with the bother. Watch your paperwork too, especially for vaccines. They just gave my dogs shots and the invoice says DAPP for one dog and DHPP for the other dog. The tech tried to play it off like it was just one letter difference and that it was really the same thing. But when I pointed out that it's printed the right way for one of the dogs, he went to change it and did not charge me the difference in price, thankfully. Then he came back with an update but the date administered didn't show up correctly, so I had to send him back to fix it. I don't think my groomer would see it as 'just one letter difference' kind of problem, I think I would have been turned away at my next appointment. Not my favorite vet. read more

A young male cat appeared in my yard about a week ago. He was unneutered, no collar, no chip. Because most shelters are not doing spay/neuter right now, I thought it would be good to give a smaller vet in the area some business. So, before finding him a home, I wanted to have him tested, vaccinated, and neutered. Spoke to Alpine on the phone, told them exactly what I wanted - an exam, an FVRCP vaccination, and an Felv/Fiv (feline leukemia/feline aids) test. Went through the new patient evaluation, once again saying I wanted just the test and FVRCP vaccine, and no other vaccinations, because he will be a indoor-only cat. And, that depending on the results, I'd schedule the neuter in the next day or two. So...I left him for 1/2 hour, vet called to say he looked healthy, and that they'd do the blood test, and I could come back in about 15 minutes. I call from the parking lot to pay the bill, and they tell me his test is negative (great news), and that they have vaccinated for BOTH FVRCP and Feline Leukemia. I was furious - I did not want him to have a feline leukemia vaccination because he's going to be an indoor cat. And they're like "sorry Maam." Uh, really? I was so specific in what services I wanted, no question. I insisted they take it off the bill, but the worst part is, even if I wanted a feline leukemia vaccine, I would NEVER have them done in the same day. Now the poor cat is down, not eating, feverish - that happens sometimes, which is precisely why I wouldn't give two vaccinations the same day. Then I say "Well, what is the cost of neutering?" $580! Are you kidding me? For a juvenile male? (For comparison, it's between $120-200 at a shelter or clinic.) So I declined, but what they didn't tell me is that's for a "package," which includes charges for tests that are clearly unnecessary, and you can't choose which parts of the package you want. They gave him a clean bill of health, and now you insist that you must do another blood test, a urinalysis, microchip (which I do myself), $100 in "miscellaneous medication" (which is outside of the charges for pain meds and antibiotic). What ARE these miscellaneous medications? And the list goes on. The worst of all of this is that many people simply cannot afford nearly $600 to sterilize their pets, and so Alpine is actually contributing to yet another wave of overpopulation by insisting that you get the entire "package," because, after all, you DO want your companion to be healthy, don't you? Disgusting. I can't wait for shelter clinics to reopen. I could have 5-6 cats sterilized, tested, vaccinated, and wormed for the $580 they wanted to charge. So much for trying to help a small vet during the pandemic. Just no. read more

Took my cat there as he was so lame he could barely walk. I couldn't find anything wrong with his leg, but he did have a light cut on his shoulder my husband found that I didn't think could cause that much lameness. Alpine did an emergency appointment where I was not allowed with my cat. They decided to x-ray the leg, and said that there was nothing on the xray then told me that it was likely muscle related. A week or so later an abcess popped out where my husband had seen a wound. I called alpine to inquire about putting cat on antibiotics. Their rude staff told me that they couldn't see him until Monday despite the fact it was Friday. I went to Adobe who gave him a shot of antibiotics and he was immediately better. Adobe let me stay with my pet during treatment. Adobe told me I may need a second shot in 7-10 days. A week later my cat was supposed to have his follow up vaccine at alpine and I had booked him for his teeth. I asked about a second shot of antibiotics and they said it was not needed. It is now a week later and my cats shoulder is back to swollen and painful. They were wrong about the follow up shot. These guys managed to make mistakes EVERY step of the way, they had no empathy and no accountability for their mistakes. I wasted over $1000 going here. STAY AWAY. read more

My poor cat had an emergency (high fever from a vaccine reaction). They were helpful over the phone and took great care of her while in their care. We dropped her off first thing and she was well enough to come home that night. I'm so glad they were able to care for her and we didn't need to go to an ER in the end. Due to Covid all paperwork and pet handoffs are being done in the parking lot. We spoke with the veterinarian several times on the phone and she was super helpful, friendly, and compassionate. We will be back for our regular visits and any future medical concerns. read more

Just a money maker. Horrible experience today. I've been taking my Yorkshire Terrier to this clinic for 7 years and in those 7 years they have gone absolutely downhill!! Everything from the actual facility, staff, and vets! I don't think there was ever any consistency. They charge insane prices, $55 office visit off the bat, plus everything you're going to need, a regular check up can turn into $400 plus. Money goes where? Straight into their pocket because the actual facility is gross. Vet Shira Rubin took one minutes to evaluate my pet. But what caused me to write this review is the way I was treated because I disagreed with the vets evaluation and questioned the treatment! My Yorki has suffered from chronic dermitis for years, I know the symptoms and every medication - trust me, I've spent thousands and when he gets a flare up I need to go in to get him meds and they slap me with the office visit price. Today, I noticed the symptoms and wanted the script so I could get the meds cheaper and also believed my dog has a skin yeast infection. Why do they have to make everything so difficult. He's 7 years old and you would think they would recognize symptoms and could treat without so many tests. They refused to give me the script and would only prescribe medicine after blood work and skin test! You've got to be kidding me! When I said this, the vet told me she was sorry, but that I probably should go elsewhere and that they couldn't treat him. Full stop. Gave the card for the dermatologist and basically said, BYE BYE! And I'm just there with an untreated smelly little Yorki terrier and crying 6 month old. Just horrible mean customer service and total lack of compassion or empathy and definitely some microaggressions. This is after being loyal and giving them my money and a chance for 7 years. This is in regard to my dog, a 14 year old Schnauzer named Chance. I've been taking my Schnauzer to Alpine Animal Hospital in Mountain View since 2011. I am aware of the shift in management within the last few years and since then, I've noticed the quality of service deteriorate after this change. Here are some examples: * No consistent doctor. The doctor always changed when I brought my dog in so she never had a regular vet. * The doctors have been pushing for more lab tests which I have felt are very unnecessary. On my most recent visit, which was at the beginning of November 2019, I brought my dog in as I thought she may have a UTI. I expressed to the doctor and the receptionist that she may have a UTI when I arrived at the office. My dog had her annual exam in August and all tests came back normal. However, right away, the doctor, Shira Rubin, said she'd do an ultrasound to see if there were stones in her bladder, tests for diabetes, and also ran a full panel of blood tests. The doctor said the idea of running this full blood panel was for an upcoming dental procedure I had not yet even agreed to. The previous management would ask me if I wanted to do these tests and procedures and would give me a quote in writing before they proceed with the tests. This management did not. The only thing the doctor quoted me was for an outside UTI lab test for $272. Knowing that my dog just came from her annual exam with no problems or existing illness, I felt that the doctor was aggressively pushing these tests as I have been a loyal customer since 2011 and have never complained. This visit costed a total of $531 and they were still trying to push the extra $272 for the outside lab test. I said no to the outside lab test. I called the office the next day and talked to Dr. Rubin and expressed my frustration. At first, the doctor was disappointed with my reaction and she said she would call me back with regards to the test results. When she did call, of course all tests came back normal. She then told me that next time I must be the one to tell them to conduct only light tests on my dog. I was thinking this would be standard practice to give a quote before proceeding but not with this management. Dr. Rubin then apologized and said she'd refund my office visit and said she'd share the blood tests to other doctors if I do not return there but she was hoping I'd come back and she'd send me an estimate. At this time, I have not yet seen a refund nor a dental estimate. I would recommend not visiting this vet office and I will not be returning. They have taken my $531 but I will never be a continuing costumer again. read more

Our dog Sparky was a long time patient at Alpine. We used to love the service he received. Lately, it seemed more and more that they were more interested in how much money we would be willing to spend on tests and procedures that we felt he did not really need. Example, Sparky had an infected paw toe (from biting on it). The vet recommended amputating it, in case it was cancerous, stating that dogs don't really feel it... Just in case it was cancerous... Our last interaction with Alpine was just sad from a customer relations perspective. Sparky had died at home (almost 15) and we were wanting to cremate him. They wanted us to keep his little body at home overnight because they were getting ready to close, but they needed to know whether we would want a premium or regular service... They didn't bother to mention that Adobe Animal Hospital, just down the street, would do the same service and were open 24 hours. Dr. O'Hara saved my dog's life. She had some GI upset in the morning and quickly declined in the afternoon. Alpine was able to see her since our regular vet didn't have any availability. The inpatient bill was expensive and I was able to have my pup treated on as an outpatient with two days of visits. She would have died without the quick response and intervention. Dr. O'Hara called me to explain her assessment and the desired treatment plan. I was able to decline a few of the tests and treatments without feeling any judgment or pushback- unlike some other practices I've been to. This used to be a fantastic clinic, but since the entire staff has left over the past year or so, the quality has gone downhill quickly. First off, the front desk staff is clueless, tacky and unprofessional. They focus more on socializing with each other than focusing on their patients and clients. Upon my last visit, I heard each (non-vet) employee whining about how long it was taking for their coffee to be delivered. One female kept calling my (obviously) male dog a "she." One female is difficult to understand and talks as if she has marbles in her mouth. A certain male employee freaked my dog out, continuously yelling "Oh my GOD GOOD DOG!!!" while he was taking his vitals. Dogs don't like to be yelled at. Perhaps if they focused more on doing their actual jobs instead of goofing off, this second issue wouldn't have happened. They lost my dog's biopsy sample and didn't tell me until 2 weeks after his procedure when I took him in to get his stitches removed. We called to inquire about the results one week after his procedure, and instead of just taking responsibility for their screw up, they lied and said, "The results aren't back yet." They should have just been honest and told us that they lost his sample instead of making us wait 2 weeks. I had to fight with them for half of a day to get them to give me a 100% refund. They only wanted to refund half of the cost, stating, "At least we removed it!" Sure, they removed a mass from my dog's shoulder, but we have absolutely NO IDEA if he actually has cancer or not because they FAILED to send the sample to "an outside lab" to be tested for cancer. They didn't hold up their end of the bargain, so my family shouldn't have had to pay for their mistake. This whole situation could have been avoided if they actually did their jobs and sent the sample in, instead of hiring people who can't be bothered to keep things organized. read more
