I would like to understand why the Alta View Animal Hospital's Facebook page states that Paul Ghumann is a licensed veterinarian on the landing page? His license was revoked in 2020. I have called to inquire about it several times, and have been told that "no one has access to the Facebook page." I don't think that's accurate, as several areas of the site have been updated well after 2020. Should I write to the California Veterinary Board to ask them why? The information is incorrect. Great service; they always take good care of my pets. However, I had an issue where a wire transfer didn't enter my account on time. They didn't even want to work with me; paying on Monday instead of Saturday was a horrible situation. I already see that they don't have very good ratings to begin with so maybe it's time to look for another vet. Please consider doing research before taking your pet here. read more

Every dog that I have had in the last decade and a half (at least) have been patients of Alta View Animal Hospital. I currently have three dogs. We have had two dogs put down there (when they were dying) and was always treated with care and respect. Today I stopped by to pick up a refill for one of my dogs. While there I asked if I could use the bathroom. When exiting the back I walked by Dr. Low's office with the door wide open and his face in the open door. I said hi to him, then asked him if I could ask him a question, he said yes. All of a sudden Gary appeared giving me the time out sign with his hands. I asked...""Who are you?", he replied that he is the manager. Clearly he is the son of the owner Dr. Paul, who lost his license to practice veterinary medicine years ago. I over looked that Dr. Paul lost his license and continued to bring my dogs to his practice, because he is not permitted to practice. Gary was unimaginably rude, told me to leave, I said that I would never come back and I won't. A few weeks ago I paid $2700. on one visit, with a dental cleaning for one of my dogs. In closing, I have never been treated so rudely in my life, I actually said..."how dare you?". I have never said those words to anyone, I wish that I had told Gary that I asked Dr. Low if I could ask him a question and he said yes. Gary has a lot to learn about customer service. So after so many years, I will never return to this practice. I am relieved that I am not putting money in that very rude man's pockets. read more

I have had 2 semi emergency and needed quick medical care for my cat(tortilla) and my dog (lord Vader beef wellington) dr. Low and his staff were professional and accommodating to my payment needs and time frame revolving around work. Elizabeth did a phenomenal job with my animals and appreciate the quick service and very hospitable staff working at alta view,the only thing I would change is the recheck. The front desk was very welcoming and friendly. I was help by Isidro and he walk me through step by step the whole way. The Second Lady at the front desk also was super friendly and funny, I didn't get her name she closed me out. The Doctor that help me was Dr Karna she was super nice and you can tell they really care about animals. I was walk through the step for step after care for my pet. When you only have one vet, no vet tech and 2 receptionists and that's it, things won't work well. I did talk with someone I thought was a vet tech but turned out to be a business manager! Really weird and non/ functional. The vet here is a man of few words and after waiting 3 hours to be seen he had very little to say. Very expensive without much for it. It's obviously set-up to be a money maker and I'm sure they do well but this vet acted as though he was late for a meeting and had no time to say much. I was never called with results from testing and have now had to call to get results. I still haven't received them but hopefully I will soon. I obviously can not recommend this vet. read more

My furboy French bulldog was seen by Dr. Brown yesterday for a running nose issue. He was very attentive and listen to our concerns. What I like the most was he wasn't trying to recommend unnecessary medical treatments. He just prescribed my furboy some antibiotics and suggested a pcr swab test to rule out any respiratory infections. The staff even called to check on my dog the next day for any side effects from the med. Great service and caring staff! Will definitely come back. read more

Please notice how the manager, Gary either blames the owner or takes a defensive position with every negative review. I've never seen this with any other business of any kind. I regret that I didn't take my cat to another vet after a two week wait to hear about her lab work as noted in my previous review. Three more expensive visits, the last one all day which started after my cat had declined for days & both she & I, sadly, were ready to let go. Yet, Dr. Rubio pushed us to implement all day care which she indicated would give my cat relief for one day to a few days. I even called a couple of hours later to say I was not heard, my cat had suffered enough, When I took her home with more medication and after more than an $1,100.00 bill for that day, my cat was in the same distress as before. I contacted Alta View; the receptionist didn't remember us! The vet sent us to a place my cat didn't know and made her last of several accusations that I didn't authorize "diagnostic testing." I did, for a UTI even though we knew she had kidney disease & pancreatitis. I announced early & often that I did not want my cat to suffer. She did thanks to a plan we were pressured to accept. Abbey was euthanized in a crisis of pain after an all day intervention which failed. The next day I called & asked to speak to the vet on duty, whom I know, Dr. Low. I was told it's was not possible due to how busy he is. I wanted to clarify why the records were not received by the ER vet & again to see if I could finally be heard. Not a chance. There was nothing but defensiveness & the usual barriers. It is always possible to call. If nothing else, business does not recognize the benefits of good will. read more

Took my cat to Alto View because of distress. Rude staff, rude vet. It was the weekend, my vet was not open (on a Saturday). He insisted that cat stay overnight, then again on Sunday night. First thing Monday morning my vet (Cameron) insisted that Alto View release my cat to me. Cameron also insisted that records be forwarded. I waited more than 2 hours for my cat's release, then was handed a bill for $1500.00. After agreeing to forward records, Alto View then refused. We have had a great experience during our recent two visits in August 2023. We took both our kitties and our little Cheweenie for routine check ups and vaccinations. The staff was courteous and our animals felt loved. We even got a follow up call just to check if our pets were doing ok. It was fairly easy to get an appointment that fits our needs. read more

What a great experience! My cat had an emergency today and we have only had the cat for two days! We didn't have insurance yet and we know emergency vet services usually cost a few thousand dollars. This place only charges like $130. In total we only paid $260 where any other emergency vet would have easily taken much much more and done much much less! We also got the cat back in 2 hours. They wanted over $900 for trim because they required multiple vaccines even though these dogs do not leave the house. No transparency. Total rip off. My 16 year old dog contacted a respiratory problem while spending a day at Alta View. He has continued to cough and wheeze non-stop for months. The sanitation is totally inadequate. A dog pooped in the entrance area and their clean up was very superficial with wet paper towels. The doctors there seem to only be interested in selling more unnecessary services and not actually solving an animal's problems. read more

Extremely dissapointed. They railroaded us into paying for a full blood workup ($350) and biopsy ($300) which included surgery on our cat to take samples. Total cost of visit including unnecessary overnight -- $1600. End result -- cat has allergies. OH MY GOD. Quick research on company they use for samples (IDEXX) shows that they enter into contracts with small vets and force them to send samples via a quota system. Vets working with IDEXX have incentives to take samples and cut open cats for no reason. They are currently being sued for bad business practices. My Cat had a rash, they took $1600 I never complain about anything but this was atrocious. What cat owner needs to pay a small ransom to find out the pet has allergies. Please. The cat was returned with three separate incisions, each with stitches. I asked if these were wounds from an animal attack. Nope, Dr Low decided to do biopsies on the skin condition in case it was cancer. Huh???? We were an easy mark, we were shaken down and felt powerless. As always, read the reviews, they are very telling. It is hard to feel taken in this way. Very disappointing that they would prey on people like this. read more

Alta View Animal Hospital is outstanding. The vet and staff have taken excellent care of my dog for 5 years. Dr. Darren Low is thorough, careful, and so knowledgeable. My dog was vomiting blood and received great care. Dr. Low recently did a great job cleaning his heavy tarter teeth. He received great care for possible tear to a knee ligament. The staff are incredibly helpful, smart, well-trained, warm, and kind. Their prices are reasonable and are itemized and explained very clearly. read more

DO NOT COME HERE. I came here because my usual vet was fully booked and I was concerned over an infection my dog may or may not have in his eye. The day before I brought my dog in, his eye looked bad, but overnight it looked much better. By the time I was going to take him to his appointment at Alta View, his eye almost looked back to normal BUT I love my pup and wanted to do my due diligence just to be absolutely certain he didn't need eye drops or antibiotics. Right as the "vet" came into the room, I was very surprised by the way he approached my dog. He went straight for him, which my dog was not comfortable with and my pup tried to nip at him. Every seasoned vet knows to gently approach an unfamiliar dog. Within 2 minutes of meeting the "vet", I could tell this place was 1000% going to try to give me a run for my money. He took one look at my pup's eye, which I explained had gotten much better since the day before and the "vet" greatly exaggerated his condition. Here's how the conversation went: "Vet": "OMG but can't you see how much he is squinting his eye?! There's definitely something wrong. He could have an ulcer and within the week, his cornea could rupture! I recommend he have 3 tests done, all of which will cost $40 each on top of the $58 examination fee and $90 for antibiotics." I was flabbergasted. I said, "Do you really think all of that is necessary? I mean, his eye has improved substantially since yesterday. I just took him in to you to be extra sure." "Vet": "Oh no, it's definitely not good. I recommend all of the tests and I'll have someone throw the full estimate together for you. You don't want it to spread to his other eye do you?" Of course not. Of course I don't want it to spread, which is why I brought my dog to you in the first place even though I was going against my better judgement since he was healing fairly rapidly. I wish I'd read all of the reviews from others before coming here. The vet tech helping was just as pushy and when I asked her, "So, I'm really surprised by all of these charges totaling almost $250. Is this all really necessary? Like, there's not even a recommendation to watch the eye for a couple more days and bring him back if it's worse?" She LAUGHED and said, "No, this is the recommended care." I followed my gut, told her I didn't feel good about the treatment plan and that I'd only be paying their $58 exam fee. I took my pup and got out of there. He was totally traumatized by the time he came out 5 minutes later and was panting heavily so I'm not sure what they did to him back there. read more

I had gone to Dr. Paul for over 30 years and no one time has he ever mistreated any of my beloved pets. He has always been knowledgeable , kind and helpful whenever I have needed his services. I would not take my pet to any other vet. I'm very sad at what has happened to him, I don't believe he did any of these things people are accusing him of, not with any intentions or malice. All my pets lived past their projected life span and were always healthy. I wouldn't go there now after what has happened and I think it's wrong to have taken his practice from him. He had done way more good than these few examples they wrote about. Adobe did the same thing to one of my cats that he is accused of doing to someone else's. Should I go get that vets license taken from him. Pets don't always live, even when there young and the vet expects them to do well, shit happens, deal with it as you should instead of ruin other peoples lives because the outcome isn't what everyone had expected and hoped for. read more

Super overpriced and they love to hit you with random charges. Took my pet to the emergency clinic where they performed a physical exam, my cat was in good health and I retained the medical records. A few weeks later, I had to board my cat, even though I had the previous record, they charged me 60 dollars to do the physical examination. Then, two months later they charged me another 50 dollars to do a "recheck" physical examination. This is on top of an abundance of other treatments that my indoor only cat simply does not need. Worst vet ever, for the I dont know how many times now they have taken advantage of my mom. They give her one total cost over the phone and then when she goes to pick up her dog there are more charges tacked on. If I could give negative stars I would. There is no transparency here worse yet they wont release your pet until you pay what they say. Also I' not the only one; when I was there another couple walked in and the same thing was done to them. They were told a couple of hundred a day before and when they were there they were told it was going to be a few hundred more. Every time I've come, they included additional testing beyond treatment of care that doesn't add to a few dollars - it's hundreds of dollars. I've never left here paying less than $400 a visit. With the most recent being in the thousands! Additionally for any routine check up you will be here longer than you wait for your own doctor. Plan to send about 2 hours. They're is typically no one at the front desk and your left waiting at least 15 min or more before you are even seen. We're done - I strongly recommend you not taking your pet here as the competency has significantly declined since Covid - putting your pet at risk as well as your bank account. read more
