I started going to Al's (which isn't really at a 76 franchise anymore) when I had one car 20 twenty years ago and it was the only repair place I could walk to. Since then I bring my four cars only to Al's. In addition to Al, his employees Tony, Sal and Sun take care of me and let me know when repairs are not needed. Watch out for "advice" from others particularly fast oil changing places where they will "spot" illusory problems in your car. The service at Al's is always quality and a fair price. read more

BEWARE!!! This is the worse repair shop I have ever been to!! I have been too nice and had given this place so many chances. I took my car numerous (four) times to this place for an oil leak and guess what!!??? It was never fixed!! None of them really showed me where the leak is coming from, why it's leaking etc etc. I was charged almost 2K for it and it's still leaking!! I brought this issue to their attention (including the owner) and was asked to take the car back to them so they can fix it....they held my car for almost a week (couple times) which means I have to rent a car while I get my car back!! (an extra expense!!) I got my car back and guess what it's still leaking!!!!! and when I talked to them they sounded mad!!!! Are you kidding me!!???? My car is in worse condition now than what is was when I first brought it in!!! It's leaking like crazy!!! I took my car many times for days and days but still, nothing happened!!!?? Why should I pay almost 2K for service that was never renedered!!!??? I also, took my car to other car shops and was told it's still leaking badly and the leak was never fixed to begin with!! I emailed Al (owner) twice but he never replied!! How unprofessional!! That shows me that they don't care and they are unprofessional!! Don't be fooled, pay attention to their work, ask questions, make sure they show you thoroughly what is wrong with your car, and pay attention to their charges! Worst place EVER!!!! I went in for a simple oil change with a coupon for $19.95, and my total bill for everything totaled almost $50! They told me then were going to put in a new air filter for Free, I said no, but the mechanic repeated that they'll put it in for FREE...so I said 'Okay', turns out they meant they won't charge labor, so they still charged for the filter. Total miscommunication on their part, which I'm sure they do to many customers. They know how to swindle to get you to feel comfortable with saying yes...and then list all these charges that they don't disclose....Never going there again! read more

I sent my car for smog check. It failed at first time. I took my car to the shop which did the smog repair last time. the 2nd shop ran a pre-smog test and found no problem. So I sent it back to Al's for re-test. Still failed on the very same item. Note the reading of this item between Al's and 2nd shop's is 10 times difference! One of these two shops has something wrong! In order to find out whose is wrong. So I went to a third smog check shop. It passes! Al's charged me two times for tests and suggested me to apply CAP for repairing. The fact is there is nothing to repair. Image if I go for repair, what they'll do to repair a good car? I spent hundreds to learn to stay away from Al's. at least not for smog check. read more

I have taken my car here twice or so I believe...for an oil change... and perhaps once for a 45 k miles service... I think they are mostly honest about the repairs and changes required. I say mostly because there were couple of things the Toyota Sunnyvale (ripoff) guys asked me to change which was really not needed and Al told me that repair was not needed ..I believe AAA also had told me thesame thing in the past...repair not needed...they are also pretty honest.. There was one instance where I had given my camry for a 45k service and I got a call back saying that they brake pads (or is it called brake shoes) should ideally be changed as it had only 20% left.... I had to go to Tahoe for a trip so did not want to take a chance.... but then later I thought about it and was thinking if the car could survive 45k with 80% the rest 20% of the brake pad should easily do another 10k. Tahoe trip is only 1k tops but Al's mechanic said it is not a good idea...and is too risky to go around with the pads when there is only 20% left......I really doubt if that is true... Again not sure if my calculation is right...but I guess it could have stayed for another 5k easily.... I think I will again take my car to them for service.... I expect a very honest feedback on repairs required and I am hoping they would continue to do so !!! read more

I called for an appt and was told to come in and once I got there was told it would beabout 40 min which although not great I can deal. It was kind of weird sitting in a gas station store but the guys working there were very nice as was the mechanics so I'll be back. read more

Great service! They are honest and will tell you the straight truth about what needs fixing. They are a 1 stop shop. Besides mechanical repairs, they have fixed my sun roof, window tracks and other non-mechanical problems. I don't think there's anything they can't fix. I want to make it clear right off the bat that my review is solely based on my interactions with one of the mechanics that works here named Tony, but considering the fact that Tony appears to be the person that the senior mechanics delegate to often, you as a customer will probably have to deal with him. TL;DR, Tony did not take down my maintenance order correctly and exhibited the poorest customer service I've experienced in several years. Full Story: I own a 2005 Honda CRV with 131K miles on it. One of my brake lights went out so I needed to get it fixed, and when I was looking through my recent work orders for the car I got the sinking feeling that I forgot to get my 120K maintenance done. Since Al's 76 has handled the work on this car for the last few years I called them up earlier this week and asked if they had the 120K on record, they said no, I asked if I could get it done on Saturday, they said yes. Flash forward to this morning (6/27/15), I drop off the car at 11 am and Tony takes my order. I initially say that I need the 30k maintenance done on my car (since this is the tune up that's done at 30k, 60k, 90k ect). We approach the car and Tony asks me 'does this car really only have 30k on it?', I understood the source of the confusion and clarified that my car has 131K on it but I missed the 120K maintenance and needed to get that done along with replacing one of my brake lights. He asked me if I had gotten my 'water pump belt' replaced at 100K. I was confused and asked him to elaborate, eventually I understood that he meant the TIMING belt. I wasn't certain whether my car had a timing chain or a timing belt so I told him that I knew my car had never gotten a timing belt change on it, he said he would check for me. 5 seconds of Googling showed that my car definitely has a timing chain not a belt, so after getting some lunch and coffee I stopped by at 1:30 pm and told Tony this. He appeared surprised, but repeated that he would check it and that my car would be ready at 2:15 pm. Since my father was the person that recommended this mechanic shop I called him up and talked to him. He told me Al and Abe were great mechanics but that 'one of the younger guys is a real clown' and to try to talk to Al or Abe directly if I could. I have to assume now that the aforementioned clown was Tony. Embarrassingly enough my father called Al directly, who then talked to Tony, who then called me around 2:30 pm saying he didn't know I wanted the 120K service and that the car would be ready at 5 pm instead. I wait until 6 pm, then I got a call from Tony saying the car was ready. When I arrived at the shop I asked Tony flat out why my order was wrong this morning. He disputed what was actually said that morning, called it a 'miscommunication on both our parts', that the '120K maintenance got done anyway' and asked 'why are you getting so huffy and puffy over this?'. I was flabbergasted, if a customer questions the quality of your service before paying this is an extremely poor way of responding. He then directed a young man in the shop to ring up my bill. When I got my work order I immediately looked it over and saw that Tony didn't replace the brake light. So neither of the two things I originally asked him to do when I dropped off my car (120K and brake light) were recorded properly when Tony took my order. Based on the original price estimate ($31), I have to assume he was only going to do an oil change and nothing else, which apparently took him 3.25 hours to complete (11am to 2:15 pm) I will certainly never be using Al's 76 again, particularly since it seems that the senior mechanics heavily delegate the simple maintenance work to Tony. I would like to give a shout out to the young man that rung up my bill, he was polite, professional and exhibited good humor despite the fact I was obviously frustrated; regardless of your true opinion of me (possibly Neutral or Negative), you stayed strictly professional and I applaud that. I didn't catch your name mystery technician but 5/5 for your customer service, hopefully Tony can learn a thing or two from you in the future. read more

Went in for smog check with coupon. Said I needed a new gas cap, $10. Um ok. Then when I went to pay, did not deduct the coupon, even though I asked and they said they did, but the price was same as quoted on the wall. Also tried to charge $20 for the gas cap, I managed to change that to $10. Overall cost $56 and feeling kinda ripped off. I think I'll go somewhere else next time. read more

We went in for a smog check for our 2006 Honda Accord. The service was smooth, fast, and the job done was clean and very professional. The staff, including Al, were incredibly friendly! Also, for our car the smog check would have come out to $46 but with the Yelp Check-In discount for a non-STAR smog check, it came out to $40. I took my Nissan Rouge for a service. I had the car for a year with no problem but planning a trip out of the state I though the car need a service. The did replace two tires, transmission fluid and air condition was serviced as well was priced very reasonable. We needed to drain the tank on our Acura RSX which had 5.5 gallons of diesel fuel put in it by mistake. The only service station open at the time of the evening was Pep Boys. We towed the car there without starting it but told them not to do any work the next morning until we spoke with them. They initially told us around $125.00 + disposal fee, etc. Turns out it was $125.00 per hour & a 4 hour job. After checking with Acura dealers, they all were between $478.00 and $600.00 to drop the tank, drain it, and reinstall it + disposal fees, etc. We checked with our AAA referral program and it turns out that the closest repair shop to us, literally down the street and around the corner was the AAA certified Al's 76. Al told us that it was about a 2 hour job and he quoted us only $155.00...! My wife was too skeptical to believe this could be true. It was. Al was very professional, and true to his word, he completed the work on time, and when we arrived he even filled it with premium (high grade) 92 octane unleaded fuel at his station (MTBE free, as only 76 stations were long before the government banned the additive from Canada that polluted our lakes and rivers and bays from boats and watercraft). The 92 octane fuel was recommended by everyone, and Al's 76 station is very competitively priced, often the lowest in the area. He did not even charge us any disposal fee, as he sells diesel as well. Jack, who works with Al, later aligned the same car for us and again we received excellent service as before. I am recommending Al and Jack to anyone who needs repairs on their automobiles. They work on all kinds of vehicles. I have even seen them working on large RV (motorhomes), and foreign and domestic brands. I am sending my neighbor there to get his DMV required Smog Only test and anyone else who needs work on their vehicle. I should have listened to the reviewers of two stars. We need a smog check for our 1995 Toyota Avalon; it's getting close to the due date to renew, so I asked my husband to just go to the nearest one. He was told not to worry if it doesn't pass the test because state will pay for the cost of repair to make it pass. My husband never heard of this but sounds good so he said to go ahead. He went shopping nearby while they worked on the test. Then he got a call saying it didn't pass the test. But now said only low income people will qualify for state reimbursement to do the repairs. We are not rich but we don't qualify. So we paid $50 just for the failed test. There are other stations that will do the second test free of charge after the repair. I called AAA yesterday when my BMW was leaking and making funny noises, I was going to have them take it the Good Year and was told about Al's Station. I've heard of him before but didnt want to take the chance. I took the advice and it was a good move. I had my car towed on sunday and first thing monday morning I got a call from Al letting me know what he was going to do and how much it would cost just to check on the problem. Once he found out what it would cost he called to inform me. The cost was alot lower than I thought it would be almost half seeing that he dosnt charge over $100.00 an hour.
