I was in the area for business and was very hungry. I had read mixed reviews so I was hesitant. I should have kept on driving. The restaurant was packed. Parking lot full. We walked in and stood around a while before we were addressed. We were told to sit anywhere. We sat in the back area, as it wasn't as crowded. The greeter/waitress took our drink order but didn't bring menus or anything else. She then brought us our drinks. 2 coffees and a sweet tea. Still no utensils or straws. She then came back to bring creamer at which time I asked for a spoon to stir my coffee and she brought one spoon to the table. Still no menus utensils or napkins. After about 5 minutes we finally got our menus. We ordered burgers and fries and a philly cheese steak. Still no utensils or napkins. Food came out rather quickly. When we got our food we asked for utensils and napkins, and they were brought to us. The food was mediocre at best. Soggy fries, especially the battered fries. Sweet potato fries were not crispy, but at least they tasted fully cooked. I had to constantly get the waitress's attentional to ask for coffee refills. The sweet tea was good. But again, no one to refill. Ac worked great and the restaurant was clean. We didn't visit the restrooms, but can assume it was clean. Pricing is fair. Too bad service and food leave a lot to be desired. Can't wait for the new bakery/cafe to open. read more

I'm going to give this place 5 well deserved stars. To start off, the waitress was beyond excellent. As we started to look at the menu, she made us aware of the special they had that night and also dared me saying that their chicken was the best; we're from Puerto Rico, of course we doubted her. OMG was that chicken good!!!! Probably the #1 fried chicken I've had in my 24 years of existence. To conclude this review, the food was excellent, but, the service of the wonderful waitress changed our experience completely. Will definitively come back when we go up north again. Went in here while traveling through the area. This restaurant is an out of the way gem. You seat yourself,the employees were friendly,and when asked for recommendations the server gave us all the info we needed to make up our minds. We shared the all you can eat seafood platter which we couldn't get a second helping on because we were too full. Everything on the plate,which came out very fast, was amazing. From the scallops that were out of this world good,to the fried shrimp and the crab cake and the fried swai. Great place to stop for lunch in georgia right off I-95 going to or leaving Florida. The southern style buffet $8.39 for adults and $4.00 for children can't be beat. All the food was delicious and fresh. Crispy fried chicken and catfish. The place can get busy with out of towners and locals. First and last time eating here. After placing our order we waited an hour and 10 minutes before our food arrived. The service was horrible and the waitress was very rude and never came back to check on us or fill drinks. Another family at a table beside us waited an hour and 20 minutes on their food and another table waited over an hour for theirs. Everybody was complaining about the wait and the rudeness of the wait staff. Food was ok but nothing to write home about. We had eaten down the road at Skippers two days before and it was WAY better. If you are looking for Delicious country style cooking-- this is the place. Decor is simple...not fancy at all but you will enjoy great food! They have lunch buffet everyday with several meats & seasoned vegetables. We had best fried chicken, collard greens, macaroni & cheese, creamed corn, baby limas, all seasoned to perfection. They also had sliced ham, turkey, dressing, gravy, & mashed potatoes AND you can get a salad from the salad bar!! Also have awesome fried shrimp & crab stew among other menu selections. Don't overlook this little restaurant if you're traveling. Altman's is just fine for very simple food. The fire department and the local sheriff's office were seated inside, along with a lot of workers, and the parking lot was filled. There is a menu and a buffet. Iceberg and spinach on the buffet salad, plus a good variety of add ons. The salad buffet was not quite $7 for all you could eat - it was a deal. The regular buffet featured fried chicken and another meat, plus well cooked vegetables, and the salad bar; it was just less than $9, and a lot of people got that. We got the salad bar, and I would like to say that all of the lettuce, spinach and other veggies were fresh, and the salad dressings were fresh. It's not a fancy restaurant, and the ladies' restroom must have been installed in the 1940s or 1950s is my guess, probably by a Navy man because the hot and cold water are reversed - BUT, though not very well lit, and probably older than I am, it was spotlessly clean. The menu has sandwiches, if that's your choice. It's clean, country, and I'd go back. Why three and not four stars; maybe a little more light in the restroom. read more

I gave it 3 stars only because of the really good food but the service is awful. We moved into the area a year ago so I was excited to find our local go-to place. Our first visit was really good but it started going downhill after that. If you get there an hour before the lunch buffet closes down you basically get what is left over, they didn't refill any of the items. So, learning this lesson if we arrived within that time frame we ordered off the menu. The food took a while to come out and the server was really busy doing things other than being our server ( this happened more than just one time). We tried breakfast a few times. Once we got there at the end of the breakfast buffet ( wasn't sure what time they quit) and we were treated like we had offended our server. We went out of our way to explain how we didn't know the time the buffet ended and we were glad to order off the menu. However, while we waited and waited and waited for our food the waitress went around us to other customers she knew by name and refilled their drinks or checked in on them. Finally our food arrived. To our exasperation my Husband had to chase her down just to get syrup, ketchup, and coffee refills. We reached our limit when we arrived one morning between the breakfast and lunch buffet times on purpose. We wanted to order off the menu not the buffet. The same breakfast waitress was at the counter and she didn't even greet us, just watched us walk to a table. We sat there for many minutes looking around when I overheard her talking with someone on the phone about there being people in the dining room. Several minutes later a nice lady came in and advised us that it was going to be another 15 minutes before the lunch buffet would be ready. I told her I wanted to order off the menu but she advised that the kitchen was busy preparing buffet items. We kindly advised that we didn't care to wait and really wanted breakfast so, we'd just go somewhere else or come back later if we changed our minds. The final straw came when the waitress that never spoke to us looked surprised and said with a little nervous stutter "Oh, y'all were wanting breakfast". Not one greeting, not one word from her the entire time but now that the person whom I assumed was her boss was in the room she decided to speak. I looked back and said, "yeah" as we walked out. We haven't set foot back in there and we don't plan to again. We had tried to make it our once a week go to place but now we go to Skippers in Darien; a little pricey but the service can't be beat! read more
