    Shrimp basket with battered fries
    Tricia F.

Simple, good food. It was off the beaten path. They said they were known for their buffet and had the best fried chicken around. I got a shrimp basket with battered fries. The fries were amazing and the shrimp tasted very fresh. It was a reasonably priced meal in an area that can be pretty pricey when it comes to seafood. I definitely recommend this place!!

Good food, giant portions, good service, nice friendly country atmosphere, very close to the interstate. What else could you ask for in a local family restaurant? We highly recommend Altman's!

Our group eats here often. This is a very family and community friendly place. The buffet is always well stocked and Thursday is pork chops done in different ways. The ambiance is super casual and if you don't do the buffet, the items on the menu are just as good. Perfect place for large groups but get there early for lunch because parking will be scarce. And easy 5 stars from someone who eats here almost daily.

Parking lot of vehicles told us we were on to something before we entered the door.

The salad bar is the hidden gem on the menu. Fresh and simple, and you can add shrimp or chicken for a less than $10 meal.

I debated between shrimp and oysters and the buffet. I chose the buffet because the menu indicated there was lots of different seafood the buffet and I was hoping for some vegetables too. Big mistake. There was no oysters, no scallops and only one vegetable, green beans. There was a small salad bar, so I did have some of that. The best thing was the fried shrimp and the shrimp in the shrimp boil. The deviled crab was not good.Sigh, I paid a huge amount of money and was so disappointed. The interior has not been updated at all, which was a surprise as popular as it is. Learned a hard lesson....look at the buffet before you order it. My apology....I posted the wrong picture when I wrote this review. I was catching up on reviews and clicked the wrong one. I have deleted the picture and apologize for the error.

There was fried fish and fried chicken on the buffet along with green beans, cabbage, Mac and cheese, rice, beans, biscuits etc with apple cobbler and ice cream for dessert. The shrimp here are excellent and always fresh. They do a dinner buffet on Friday and Saturday that has quite a bit of seafood on it as well as steaks, sausages, chicken etc. the dining room is just about always busy as it's a really popular place but the waitresses take good care of everyone. It is not a romantic spot or particularly good for small kids (crowded busy dining room with lots of people carrying buffet plates) but is perfect for people who want really good food at a good price and anyone who appreciated fresh shrimp.

We were…read morethe THIRD table seated at opening and somehow managed to experience a full work shift before seeing food. An hour and 45 minutes for appetizers that never appeared. Two hours for meals that still weren't complete. At that point, we weren't dining -- we were aging in real time. The server finally admitted our ticket had been crumbled up like a rejected lottery ticket. Then the manager came over trying to say it was just "pushed to the side" until we corrected her and suddenly the story changed faster than their excuses. Offering to comp appetizers that never even made it to the table was the culinary equivalent of offering sunscreen after the ship sinks. Meanwhile, tables around us were getting food while ours apparently got lost somewhere between the kitchen and the Bermuda Triangle. When food finally did arrive after TWO HOURS, meals were still missing. We left the food sitting there because at that point it was less about hunger and more about principle. No food, no service, no accountability, no payment. Absolutely unacceptable on every level. If you're looking for dinner and a hostage situation, this is your spot.

One piece of advice.....stay away from the scallops. Worst scallops I've ever had. Ordered them grilled but they looked like they had been boiled and covered with heavy spice.....terrible! All the other meals looked great but they really need to simplify the scallops. It's not that hard to do.

Stellar cocktails, friendly service, great views, modern design aesthetic, and incredible food. My only gripe is that they do not take reservations, though even on a Friday night, I've been able to get seated within 20-30 minutes, and you can always grab a drink from the bar and hang out on the lawn while you wait. This most recent visit, I started with the seafood chowder, one of my favorite soups on the island. Creamy, hearty, with plenty of fish, shrimp, crab, and potatoes. Shared a crabcake with my girlfriend--another solid choice, with plenty of crab, not too heavy on the filling, and with a lovely remoulade. For mains, we both had the grilled redfish, a baked potato for me, and mixed veggies for her. Perfectly cooked pieces of fish with a nice crust on the outside while still being moist and tender. Dessert this time was the chocolate pie, which was quite nice, not being too heavy nor excessively sweet. Did I mention the cocktails? I'm a big fan of the smokey mango Fiddlerita (a mezcal take on the classic marg), and the saladito a close second (again, mezcal, but with a little honey and cayenne). The girlfriend enjoys the basil smash (hold the simple syrup, please). Previously, we've tried the artichoke dip, which is also fantastic, shrimp and grits (solid, but Reid's does it better), blackened tripletail over creamy leek sauce (a special, and special indeed), and the key lime pie (excellent). You really can't go wrong here.
