They used to be amazing - I had my Rx's delivered efficiently and easily and now they claim not to have one in stock when this is a widely used medication - every month I check for it and it's "out of stock without a return date " which sounds very odd for such a medication. The other meds are fine for delivery but then I'll need to go to another pharmacy for the last one which makes it inconvenient for me. One pharmacist told me my medication could be ordered and then when I went to place the order it was again out of stock. I don't understand this. read more

We ordered over 5K worth of medication and paid extra for same day delivery. We did not receive the medication the day it was suppose to come. Instead we stayed up late into the night waiting for the medication wondering if it was still coming or not. We had to pick up the medication the next day ourselves. The medication was time sensitive for my wife and we were forced to pick up the medication after the window in which she was suppose to take the medication. What can we do for recourse? Corporations dont care about you or me. Strongly dont recommend this place if you need medication to be delivered on time. read more

I have tried using Alto several times but they have repetitively left my prescriptions in a forever state of processing, I have called, emailed, messaged. Zero response. My best guess is that their algorithm doesn't understand how to fill prescriptions that are not covered by insurance or in this most recent case, a user who doesn't use insurance. I love the idea of quick delivery. And that worked for me with Alto for a few years, but after a month-long zero contact situation back in 2024 I switched back to Walgreens since they can fill a prescription without insurance and if needed I can discuss this with them. But yesterday I tried Alto again and now I have no medication, it's stuck in processing mode. This is infuriating, especially when waiting for an antibiotic, and trying to avoid going to the ER. It would be so easy to make this service work. My recommendation to customers, don't use Alto unless you don't really need your medication. But hey back in the day Alto would include a salted caramel with each delivery...that was fun! Alto please get better...we need you! I'd love to use your service with confidence. read more

Been a customer for years now from close to when they started and I'm sad to say the service has gone downhill. Used to be efficient and quick to get prescriptions, easy to resolve any issues with insurance, authorizations, refills, payment, and very clear about final payments, invoicing, delivery dates, and so on. Now I am regularly dealing with issues getting prescriptions filled, such as the pharmacy overcharging me for prescriptions because their team isn't applying my insurance coverage or discount coverage correctly, or seeing a medicine is in stock and available for delivery, only for the delivery date to suddenly change and be postponed. The software is also glitchy on top of that, so I approve one payment amount and then prior to delivery they charge me another (and I only see the discrepancy in my email). Their customer service team is also all over the place, some considerate and kind (to the point of calling me directly over an issue), others passive aggressive in tone, so it's a jarring experience. read more

Their in-person pharmacists at the Bowcraft location offer medication usage instructions at the pharmacy, or you can call their main 800 number for "unboxing" instructions when you get home. Additionally, their app includes video tutorials for some of their common and difficult-to-administer medications. The phone customer service line does usually have quite a long wait, with a boring and repetitive music and notification audio track. However, when finally reaching an Alto representative, they walked me through how to coordinate with my health insurance and their app, and sent my prescriptions to the in-person pharmacy because I needed a time-sensitive medication pickup. The phone customer service team have always been understanding, helped facilitate any questions about their app and other services, and made sure all of my questions were resolved before hanging up, then confirming the details of our conversations through messages in their app for my records. For LA residents, their delivery services are also fast and easy. Any orders placed before 4:30pm have same-day delivery in the LA area. If you have any questions about billing or how your insurance should be handling your medications, it's best to call their customer service line rather than asking the in-person pharmacists. read more

I used Alto in California and 1-2 other states, so this review encompasses all regions. I, myself, am a pharmacist with 11 years of experience in retail pharmacy, having worked as both a technician and a pharmacist. For years, I raved about Alto Pharmacy to my own patients. When I worked in a specialty clinic, I frequently referred patients with routine medications to Alto, confident in their reliability and service. Unfortunately, my experience with Alto over the past couple of years has been deeply disappointing. Their processes for handling prescriptions seem to have completely deteriorated, and the lack of a proper system to review patient RX history or refill patterns before processing orders has been glaring. Every month, I get a phone call with the same redundant questions and issues, leading to a frustrating back-and-forth conversation. In my case, my new insurance only covers the generic version of the birth control I've been on since I was 18. I've opted to pay cash for the brand-name version--a straightforward and ongoing arrangement for over a year now. Yet Alto consistently forgets. Every single month, they call to insist it's a "different medication," "wrong prescription," or even a "new medication." It's not. The only difference is brand versus generic. Tracking and processing something this simple shouldn't be so hard. To make matters worse, I've placed orders through their app, carefully inputting the correct address, only to have someone at Alto change the order without notifying me. This has resulted in shipments going to the wrong address, despite me having email receipts as proof of entering the right one. As someone with two addresses in two states, their repeated lack of attention to detail is beyond frustrating especially when it's not user error. Another major issue is their chat feature. Each time I reach out, a new representative takes over the conversation without reading prior messages for context. I had issues with both of my next day deliveries and needed my medications for egg freezing urgently. The first time they drove off and claimed they couldn't find my address. I placed an order, with a delivery date of Tuesday, and told it was shipped by FedEx, also a lie. Then it was rescheduled to Thursday, then Wednesday, to be delivered by FedEx. Tracking information told the true story, sent out on Sunday and delivery by USPS. These folks are not dependable, do not practice a professional level of care, and have no right serving anyone on the basis of misinformation for profit. Shame on you. The foundation that suggested has been made aware of the situation and I hope they give patients a more sustains jd and quicker option to handle their medications. read more

I am sad to say that I after many good experiences with alto, the entire experience with this company has completely tanked from 5 to 1 star over the last several months. The most recent issue, and trigger for this review is that I have been trying to reach someone for days and got a single response essentially acting like they didn't know what all my prior messages were about somehow (and I still haven't been able to get anyone on the phone). Not only is Alto constantly out of medications my doctor orders (claiming national shortage but I have not had issues getting them at CVS) but they also report to my insurance that these medications have been filled, while at the same time, reporting to me that they don't even have the medication and cannot fill for several weeks. This has made it impossible to fill at another pharmacy as a result. I spoke with my doctor who reported that other patients are also having this problem with Alto. This seems incredibly sketchy to me, even setting aside the fact that it is causing me significant personal issues. read more

Amazing. Easiest process. My MD sent my order and the next day it was delivered to my doorstep. Their app is great too. It'll let you know how many stops away your delivery is and where on the street the delivery person is when in route to you. The packaging was above and beyond! My medication needs to be refrigerated and it came super secure packed with tons of bubble wrap and high quality ice packs. This will be the only way I get this medication from now on. Great! I should have read the recent reviews on here before picking this pharmacy. We are going through an IVF cycle and my doctor ordered a refill on fertility meds this morning which I need tonight. I had been assured yesterday that Alto would do same day delivery if I called by 11 but when I called at 8:40am to fill the doctors order they said their quota for same-day delivery had already been reached! I was shocked and called back a second time to double check only to be told the same thing again. The rep said the only option was pick up so I dropped everything and drove across Los Angeles, missing an important meeting at work and spending almost 2 hours in the car. We have spent thousands of dollars at Alto but will look elsewhere for future meds. I've also let our fertility clinic know about the experience so they can warn other patients ! read more

Hello l was working for alto pharmacy in the LA area for about to 3 years now as a courier driver. If l could leave 0 stars l would. This greedy company decided to fire all their drivers because it was decided that hiring third party drivers would be cheaper for the company. I worked hard for this company and just lets us go like that is a huge slap in the face. They claimed they cared about their drivers but it turns out it was a bunch of BS. Last year l got into an assault which costed me to break my hand. I tried to reach out to dispatch soon after only to get for her to tell me to call her back in an hour. I tried to get back to work sooner but the company wouldn't even accommodate me, how pathetic. I was out for a couple months only to come back that they made stupid changes to where it was very difficult to get a shift and allowing third party to deliver packages. I just got married and was looking to start a family but now I'm not so sure what I'll do next. As a driver l want to thank the patients l had the honor of serving but not the people in charge of the company. I never liked anybody that work at the pharmacy location at the bowcroft location. They would also say to arrived early for our shift but they never were on time to get us going into our route. Routes were designed by a stupid algorithm that never worked. I honestly don't understand how these people slept at night knowing they let a bunch of good people go and I'm glad this company got sued for unpaid hours thank Jesus. read more

I love Alto Pharmacy! One of my doctors exclusively distributes her prescriptions through here, which is how I was introduced to the service. Usually I just drop off and pick up my Rxes at CVS, so I thought this concept was interesting. And now, I've been using them for about a year and I love it! So easy and convenient! My doctor sends the prescription to Alto and all I have to do is pay and schedule the delivery. All the delivery people are super nice and always on time; Alto now even provides a way to tip them, via Venmo! The meds are always well-packaged, too. My favorite part, though, is that they always come with a small piece of candy! Always brightens my day -- and it's really good candy, too. read more

I have waited over two hours on hold before giving up trying to speak to a pharmacist. Also, there is a drug shortage and they are low o. The distribution pecking order. My wife and I used Alto for a round of IVF. The tracking is excellent, the prices are meh for US pharmacies, and the communication is extremely poor. The pharmacy wants you to direct all communication through their app. If you call, they attempt to redirect you to their app at every turn. The problem is, their app is not very good, and the messaging through their app is horrible. Let me explain. When I order goods I want to know 1) what I'm ordering. 2) The price per item 3) the total and 4) a delivery time estimate... and 1-4 had better be all on a single page not some hunt and click through the UI on each individual item in order, but only after I place it. Here's an idea: order summary page. Alto needs one. When orders are placed through the UI it occurs in a glorified chat message with someone who is responding anywhere between 5 minutes and 4 hrs. So if you want to handle 3-4 questions that would easily be done in 3 minutes on the phone, well congratulations! The process is now going to occupy mental load across the entire day. In addition to this, messaging is buried three levels into their UI. For what reason, I will never know. Service on the phone, however, was great. Fast, knew what we needed, could answer questions and change order sizes. The app is terrible. Avoid this pharmacy. Here's some general advice if you're doing IVF: Have your clinic send your prescriptions to at least two pharmacies, then when one of them can't fulfill an order, you have an immediate backup without needing to go through your clinic (which might be closed). read more

Alto is good for everyday prescriptions (cold medicine or prep, etc) but if you have a medication where you cannot miss a dose, you are better off going to a brick and mortar pharmacy. They don't always tell you if a script needs prior authorization and if it does, you will be on hold for more than an hour or have to wait 24-48 hours for a response on the app. Not the worst pharmacy but not the best for time sensitive scripts. read more

Wow. I was skeptical but this was pretty much seamless. Setting up was a no brained, just like setting up Uber Eats or DoorDash on the app. My doctor sent everything to Alto, filled out some personal info, asked me to take a picture of my insurance card, set a delivery address, chose my preferred way to pay, and chose a delivery window. This was perfect because I had to get back to work and didn't really worry about it. Got a text saying it'll be at my home during that window left at a designated safe space and that was it. Maybe tracked it on the app when I got alerts but everything looked good. Totally contactless and just had to sign on my phone before the driver came. I appreciate the candy in the discrete box that came with it too. 10/10 will use again. read more

My meds aren't easy to get because there is a national shortage, but I've had a prescription with Alto since September and right before the delivery, they cancel it and tell me there's nothing they can do and to take my prescription some place else. Except every place has trouble filling this prescription. My issue isn't that they can't fill it, but they communicate very poorly about whether or not you'll get your meds and their only solution is to not be their customer. It is an enormous failure for a pharmacy to treat getting the medication you need like it's food delivery. I wanted to like the service because when it works it's convenient, but they clearly only want certain types of customers. read more

From the time they received the prescription, they delivered the medication at my door step within 8 hours. I called them a coule of times for some clarification. THey were easy to get hold of. A consistently frustrating experience and I have finally had enough. Their app is inconsist and difficult to use. You place an order and things go into your cart, then can switch prices once they are in there. You can't get a person on the phone, ever, and no matter how you try through the app they refuse to call you. You are constantly dealing with a bot, not a human being. If you have a simple med that you are ordering, such as a one time antibiotic prescription, then they are fine. If you have multiple meds, or an unusual order, then they are a disaster. For example, I had to order two meds. One was in stock, the other not available for two months evidently. There was no way to order only the med that was in stock because the bot doesn't recognize it and comes back to you constantly for clarification that it still doesn't understand. I sent very clear messages and still no resolution. Somehow they had also already put through the bill for the other med to insurance, even though they couldn't deliver it, so now no other pharmacy will fill the prescription either unless I pay over $100 out of pocket. I tried three pharmacies and they all came up with the same info on Alto having already filed the insurance claim for payment. This is actually fraud, even if unintentional fraud. The convenience of their delivery service is far outweighed by the incapabilities and mismanagement of the app. I am switching all my prescriptions to a brick and mortar pharmacy. Customer service is a crapshoot. I've had folks who were able to troubleshoot others who were flat and unhelpful. They have two 3 hour windows for weekday delivery. I was able to esign for my deliveries. but apparently that was only a covid precaution. it would be nice to limit my interaction with strangers. But they no longer offer that option update : after being told they could reschedule my delivery for the 6-9 PM window I get a message saying that it has to be tomorrow When I called to ask why, they said it was outta stock?! But I was on it's way to me just a few hours ago?!! most of there customer support staff are not the most knowledgeable or helpful. The perceived conscience of this delivery service is not worth it. I was discharged from the hospital and in desperate need of my painkiller prescription. Alto was out of stock but took so long to inform me that I had already left the hospital and was home waiting For the delivery. I had to call Alto because the app was non-responsive and was #34 in queue but was offered the call back feature. Great. It was a Friday and they said they'd have it on Monday. If you've ever NEEDED painkillers, you know that waiting 3 days is not an option. I asked if they could transfer it to a local CVS and they said no. I couldn't reach the doctor at the hospital but luckily I had some old painkillers on hand to last me through the weekend. Monday comes and the apps says my delivery should arrive around 1pm. Around noon, the app says the meds will not arrive until Tuesday. my only way of knowing about this delay is because I happened to check the app. I'm losing it now and I call again. I'm now #43 in the queue and I never got a return call. Alto has been great in the past, but this experience - when I REALLY needed them to deliver was an EPIC FAIL. The meds finally arrived on Tuesday afternoon- FOUR DAYS after a major surgery. read more

The pharmacists now believe they know more than my doctor does and have refused to fill my prescription based on their OPINION of what I should or should not take. Let me start by saying I used Alto for at least a year plus after switching from Capsule and was happy with the service, but today I was told by their own employee that if you are looking for a pharmacy with follow through that cares about their patients health and well being - you should go to a smaller pharmacy who can support you with that. SO if you depend on your medication, you most certainly should not use Alto. My first terrible experience happened in July: I moved towards the end of July and I updated my address in Alto. I know that I did this for a fact. Unfortunately the address update did not save and the medication was delivered to my prior address. I reached out for support on July 24th and was asked for my address about an hour and a half later. I responded the next morning at 7:45 am asked it could be redelivered, at 7:49am they told me that they would reach out to their delivery team to have them retrieve the medication and send to me at my new address. I did not hear back and followed up at 4:18pm. I heard back from their team at 6pm telling me that there was nothing they could do, and that I would need to submit a lost or stolen override to my insurance. At this point it was too late to get in touch with my insurance so I was frustrated as I needed the medication. I told them as much and they came back to me with 'receipts' saying they have no proof of the address update (of course they don't if they did we wouldn't be in this situation). I would have been far less annoyed if they hadn't promised me they would go get it and handle the situation, then forget to follow up, then not be able to handle it after all. I responded to them on the 25th at 9:34pm letting them know how frustrated I was with the entire experience and received no reply. Until July 26th at 8pm when they responded to me to let me know they got the override on my behalf but didn't really reply to any of my concerns. My second terrible experience happened today. My bad for giving them another chance. I reached out a week ago to transfer a prescription that was sent to a pharmacy near a location where I had surgery a few months ago in error. I was told it would take a few days. But days went by and I kept following up asking for an update or how I could speed the process along. I reached out again this morning and said it was unacceptable and they responded that CVS not responding to them was unacceptable. I found this kind of blame passing a bit odd but alas. I called CVS to see what was up, and they mentioned that they did not have record of any voicemails or faxes from Alto. I have no way of knowing what actually happened here, perhaps they had the wrong number, perhaps it never happened, perhaps CVS was trying to save face. But it doesn't really matter, as a paying customer I was depending on my medication. I then called Alto, waited on hold for about an hour and when I received a call back was immediately hung up on. I messaged in the app then to receive a call back and received a call back about an hour later. At this point CVS had managed the issue and sent over the prescription but I still wanted to communicate about what had gone wrong here. I was met with the most horrible customer service experience I have ever had. The tone of the person's voice was incredibly rude and condescending. She apologized that the 'experience did not go how I had hoped' and wanted to schedule the delivery. I said that I did not want to do that over the phone and would do it in the app but I did want to understand what went wrong and discuss why I had to follow up so many times to even get to this place. When I tried to express my frustration I was told that 'If I didn't want to reorder on the phone then she would be disconnecting the call as there was nothing further to discuss'. There was, I am a customer and I have a complaint. She continued to condescend and pass the buck onto me and CVS for our responsibility, never really taking responsibility or acknowledging my frustration. At one point I even said I know that you must deal with upset people all day and I know this isn't your fault personally but I also don't think this is an okay way to approach people's health. She said to me : I actually don't deal with people who try to claim we are dishonest and liars everyday. She proceeded to speak to me like I was scum of the earth until at the end of the call she suggested that I maybe should use a 'smaller pharmacy' who can give me more personalized attention and communication - as I seem to need that support and Alto is just way too big to offer it. I suppose Alto is the biggest pharmacy no one has ever heard of but I got better customer service from CVS... Regardless, mistakes get made, things slip through the cracks - when it comes to health care that is not the best. But it does happen, all I was asking for was some compassion and communication. read more

Connected me with another discount provider that saved me THOUSANDS on fertility medication. I spoke to a few different people on the phone and each was kind, competent and eager to please. Really great to have medications delivered to you. The staff is polite. However, the disorganization with the medication list is a frustrating problem. Rather than them automatically renewing the entire list of meds, one has to remind them of each medication on the list every time. Also, once when I was out of town and did not approve the delivery & even typed for them not to deliver, they tried anyhow. That medication never made it to me in the mixup. They can't keep basic, generic medicines in stock. Their inventory system seems to be a total disaster. They will gladly accept the Rx, but you won't find out that they are out of the medication until the delivery time -- and then you'll get a robot telling you that they are having issues with the manufacturer blah blah blah.
