I've never had a negative experience with a tailor up until I went to Alwani's store. He spent way too much telling me stories about other women that he had worked with and very little time discussing my alteration needs. Once I finally got my dress back, it did not have all the alterations that we had discussed and I called him to receive a refund for the items that he did not complete. He was trying to talk me out of getting my refund to the point that he had his wife (someone I had never met) start yelling at me because I was calling to request a refund. I was frustrated with the whole situation because I was planning on wearing the dress to my wedding reception. Overall, I would not recommend his business and I wish I had paid a little more and taken my dress to a better tailor. read more

This beautiful man takes such great care in his work and customers! I have a shirt that needed what I thought was a simple snap replacement. 4 other places sent me away before I found Alwani. Turns out this particular snap is quite rare and almost impossible to match but Alwani was up for the task in a way that really warmed my heart. We agreed the snaps were too beautiful to replace so he physically searched several places around town but without luck. He offered a great solution (adding an inner hook and eye with the old snap) but said he wasn't ready to give up and would I mind giving a bit more time for him to search. And he found it! He spent soooo much time and energy on this little task and it certainly wasn't for my 12$... it was because he takes pride in his work and cares about his customers. I'm a big fan! read more

You couldn't pay me to come back here for any reason. Absolutely destroyed my favorite jacket, promised it on June 17th, kept me waiting for an additional 5 weeks until today, July 22nd. I wanted to support a small business in my neighborhood. One excuse after another, the manners and friendliness disappeared when I stated I'd be paying with store credit (from a prior job he never got around to but refused to refund me for). For that prior situation, even though he performed no work, his reasoning regarding a refund was, ''Sorry, I cannot refund you. Woosh, the money is already gone.'' Must have made my jacket and pants zero-priority when he realized he wouldn't be making fresh profit from the job. For $50 dollars and 6 weeks total of waiting, you can see what was done to the jacket. Make your own observations, and if you think this looks like a tailor did it, feel free to risk him with your items & business. I wish I could wear it with the holes in it again, but I'll have to donate the jacket now, originally retailing for $130. His defense? ''This is how he does patch work for 1000's of customers, etc., etc.'' How could someone in good conscience return a customer's items in this condition? I'm disgusted. For me, the experience was dishonest, furthest thing imaginable from what was promised. I have major regrets, and I'll be discarding my remaining store credit. It's a real shame. He took a thrifted pink weeding dress my daughter picked out and he converted it into a Cinderella prom dress. No one else could have done that but him. Let me start off by saying that this review is long overdue and I sincerely apologize for that. I was a bridesmaid for my friend's wedding last summer. She had her bridesmaids take measurements and sent them to India for these beautiful custom-made lehenga cholis (blouse and skirt); however, we had not taken shoulder measurements. Now, this probably wouldn't be a problem (it wasn't for the other bridesmaids), but it turns out that I have wider than average shoulders relative to the rest of my measurements. My heart sank when I tried to put on the blouse and could only button up the lowest button.. I searched Yelp to see if I could find a tailor who specialized in Indian dresses. I tried two other stores who told me they couldn't do anything about this situation before finally coming across Mr. Alwani's shop. I walked into the store and was greeted warmly by Mr. Alwani. I explained my situation to him and asked him if there was anything that he could do. Mr. Alwani kindly explained to me that this would be a really big project but that he thought he could take on the challenge. Since my shoulders were about 3 inches wider than the shoulders on the blouse and the bust of the blouse was about 2 inches higher than mine, he would need to take apart the entire blouse and reassemble it to my measurements. He conservatively explained to me that he may need to change the design of the back and that it would take several weeks. I asked him to go ahead and do it. There was no way I could wear the blouse in its current state. About 2 weeks before the due date, Mr. Alwani asked me to come in for a fitting. To my astonishment, he was able to keep the original design of the back! The bust and shoulders now fit and I was able to button up the back entirely. It was a bit snug, but that was to be expected since he had to add on about 3 inches to the original size of the blouse. Throughout this whole project, Mr. Alwani remained completely professional and his price was extremely reasonable (in fact, it was much lower than I thought it would be for the amount of work he put into it). I also brought in the rest of the outfit and my fiance's outfit to be pressed and that came out perfectly. I am so grateful to Mr. Alwani for saving my friend's wedding and I highly recommend his services. He's clearly talented and the customer service is excellent. read more

I had to take my entire order to another tailor to be salvaged, but once a suit is built wrong from the beginning it will never fit correctly. Alwani is the best tailor I've encountered in LA! I was in an Indian wedding and could not figure out how to wrap the sari I was meant to wear. I called him to see if he could help, and stayed late to help me. He also noticed that the top didn't quite fit right, and insisted on making the alterations overnight so I could look my best for the wedding and do the sari justice. Really expensive. Took more than two weeks to complete. Not worth the time or the money. Alwani is a very nice man but the seams on every single dress were uneven and bumpy. When I pointed this out to him, he said it would only require some ironing. I reluctantly took his advice because he was so adamant about it and seemed offended at this slight against his craftsmanship. Needless to say, the ironing did nothing to fix his poor tailoring. I am now out $200 plus all the money I spent on the garments in the first place. I can't even take them to a new tailor because the seams have been all but ruined. Garbage now. read more

Alwani knows his craft. He looked at a "new" garment and immediately showed us that it had been bought, altered and returned (and the dept store had missed this, took it back, and re-racked it). He is a little expensive and he does require time. Honestly, this isn't my everyday tailor but for specific jobs (zipper replaced, fixed an odd pocket tear in a suit) he excels. Always very nice in my dealings. Has a minimum for credit card purchases though. And the shop is not the most inviting to step into the fitting area. I wanted to take in the shoulders on a suit I got tailored in India. I originally went to Lizon Tailors, but was told that what I wanted wasn't possible. Walking into Alwani's, I could tell that he would be able to accommodate me. I brought in another jacket that fitted so that he could have a reference. I also had him thin the lapel. After measuring, he told me that the jacket would be ready in 3 weeks. I came back a day early from the date, only to find that he hadn't worked on it. He asked me to return with the other jacket to compare and then promised to have it finished in three days. I was pleased with the result, the jacket fit and looked more modern. The alterations set me back $150, but I know work on suits is more expensive. Alwani's is worth it, but beware he does work on Pakistani time! read more

I cannot begin to tell you how great of a tailor Mr. Alwani is. He all but performed a miracle for me in the middle of a crisis. I was a bridesmaid in a wedding and needed some alterations done on my dress. Due to my busy schedule, I procrastinated getting the alterations done in an adequate time. Mr. Alwani was able to turn around my dress in a week! I must say that these weren't simple alterations. The dress was quite intricate and the work involved was complicated. Mr. Alwani was able to work with my time frame and asked if I could come in a few more times to fit the dress as the alterations were made. Needless to say, I did. Alwani is the BEST! I found him through a roommate when I moved into the neighborhood. He is a great person and a very talented tailor. Every item has come back exactly as expected and he even took the initiative to mend moth holes in a cherished vintage wool jacket I brought him (at no additional cost!). He tends to be very busy so don't expect overnight service but it's worth the wait. That being said, I have taken emergency items that he put a rush on for me by coming in on a day off. Alwani's Tailor did an incredible job! I had a wedding this past weekend, and needed some major work done on my Tux. Alwani asked for me to bring in a suit of mine that I liked the fit of, as well as took dimensions on the Tux that needed work. I got multiple compliments at the wedding that my Tux looked super fitted, and they asked if it was new, even though it's 5 years old. Price was a little high for him to do EVERYTHING to the tux, so he took out a few things and the price ended up being very fair. AMAZING! Aziz Alwani does not tailor for money, clearly. He enjoys to alter, tailor and design and takes pains to perfect garments. I went to get a dress altered for an upcoming pageant, he knew exactly what I wanted but had some amazing suggestions that I never thought of. I trusted him completely and we met a few times to fix the dress. I was on a time crunch but he definitely lived up to my expectations. Not only did he help with the alterations, he even shopped around for accessories to add a special flavor to the garment. I cant express how thankful I am for all that help! I went in to sell business services and this guy ended up trying to rip me off for a used suit that had a nasty stain, I can't believe this man would do something like that. I was going to buy it anyways because he said he would get it removed, and that he would sell me 4 suits for $1,000, but then he bumped it up to $1,200, then $1,288, then he said no because the italian suit that had the stain really costed more than the rest so it would be $1,500, this guy was fucking with me the whole time and I think because of our cultural differences, this man is racist avoid him! read more

I came to Alwani's after seeing positive reviews and after speaking to a friend who came here. Unfortunately, I left fully taken advantage of with a lehenga skirt that is uneven and still too big. What started out as potentially some light humor, albeit completely inappropriate, commenting on my body I let it slide since he was an older man, who likely lacked politically correctness. However, when the lack of communication, attempt to miss a deadline that was his idea, blaming me for all of the issues, claiming the fabric was too hard to work with (chiffon) AND a skirt that was tailored too short and uneven, I felt the need I had to say something. Leaving in tears on my way to a friends wedding is not how I expected to leave this tailor. OH and he made me pay upfront, so there was "nothing he could do". While I can't speak to regular garments I DO NOT RECOMMEND him for lehengas and if you do go for other apparel, beware of him taking advantage of you as well. I personally hate leaving bad reviews but this man was the rudest and disrespectful tailor I have ever been to. read more

Mr. Alwani is a capable tailor, though my experiences with him were not terribly successful. I had a custom suit made, along with three dress shirts. I asked that the suit be cut slim, but when it was finished, it was more of an American cut (large arm holes, looser fitting pants). While it is a technically sufficient suit, it is not exactly what I asked for (and for the price--paid in cash--it ought to have been). It is unlikely that I will end up wearing this suit. As for the shirts, they really missed the mark. Despite asking me to come in several times for repeat measurements, the sleeves on my shirts (nearly $100 each) are all nearly two inches too short. Mr. Alwani explained that the reason the sleeves were short was because he copied the pattern on an OTR shirt he had previously altered for me. When I then asked if he would be able to alter or replace the shirts, he said it would be impossible. Now I have three dress shirts that look as though they were shrunk in the wash. Bespoke indeed. In all, I would have been much better off buying a suit from Bonobos and having it altered at my reliable tailor. Not only would I have arrived at a much more satisfactory end result, but I would have saved a lot of money in the process. Lesson learned. read more

Alwani is a nice and personable guy. Sometimes I go by just to chat with him! I've used him many times. If you're not happy, he'll fix it. Sometimes I'm nervous about hem length or what exactly he's going to do, because he doesn't stick safety pins in to mark it like I'm used to (he's more of a draw it out or measure inches with his eyes and fingers kind of guy) but it's all worked out so far! :) It IS expensive, but I've researched it, and alterations take TIME and time is money - it's his living!
