Ordered a white pizza with mushrooms and chicken they gave me and everything pizza with mushrooms and chicken. The kid that took my order didn't listen. I was skeptical about trying Amato's after seeing the other reviews but I noticed they were all old so I gave them a try. I was pleasantly suprised. The restuarant is connected to a Circle K gas station / convenience store. The first thing I noticed was that there seemed to be a lot of people coming and going which is a good sign. While looking at menu board I talked to the man in front of me. He said he and his wife always get the Chicken Parmigiana meal and also pointed out Amato's also sells there own pasta sauce. I ordered the Chicken Parmigiana Sandwich (683 calories) for $5.50. Good food for great price. I would stop in if passing through the area again. We had friends over and decided to order out for dinner. We suggested Amatos's as we have ordered there a few times and the food as always good . Well out of 6 orders 5 were bad. To start I got a chicken parm sandwich, the chicken was so overcooked it was brown on the inside. And hard as a rock as you can imagine. One got chicken parm dinner and her chicken was the same and it really was not edible. Another person ordered a ham and green pepper pizza, got not ham only green peppers. Then there was the Greek salad with the limp lettuce and a tomato with the stem still on it. Last was a ziti dinner. It was dry and had added meatballs which he said he didn't want. All in all it was a disastrous meal to say the least. I felt so bad for suggesting it. Wish I would have thought to take pics as that would have told the whole story without the need for words. Just don't understand how things got so bad unless they had a change of staff and were not properly trained. I don't know what my problem is that I have even been here more than once!! Its TERRIBLE EVERY TIME!!! I don't know why they are allowed to call themselves an Amatos. The stuffers are half the size they should be,as is anything made with dough. We called ahead tonight, and the food had not even been STARTED when my husband got there. Been there a few times in the last few months....maybe 8 or 9. First few were excellent. I always get a large chicken salad Italian. Last 2 visits the bread was stale as hell. Literally flaked apart when I tried to pick it up Bob times. I will go back but will definitely ask for a fresh roll. Good luck. read more

Food was excellent, I love their bread, and the pickles are amazing. Best calzones in town. However service was very slow on my lunch break, they weren't very busy, and it took 20 min for my cold sandwich. Two of them stood around talking with one girl making all the sandwiches. read more

The food here was delicious but the prices were crazy! The fact that they charged extra for provolone cheese! Wow. My dad and I spent almost double what we wpuld have spent at Subway. It was almost unbelievable. Extra charge for provolone, extra charge for extra pickles (which is understandable but still), and my dad's tuna sandwich cost more than my turkey sandwich.. Unbelievable! At least it was good. We will never go back! Way to expensive.. read more

Amatos Italian sandwiches have always been a fav! Have had some great pasta and pizza but fell way short with ham and pineapple pizza. Ham is more of a ground meat and pineapple was microscopic! Not a slam with just this location more the corporate website. An longtime established business should keep their website current with the offers. read more

Worst Amato's location I have ever been to. Been going for a few years now and never been blown away with the quality of food or service compared to other locations, but today was the straw that broke the camels back. I ordered a Pazzo bread and a veggie Italian over the phone. When I got it home I discovered that the Pazzo bread that I expected to be fresh was in fact one that spent the latter stages of the morning under a heat lamp and was hard as rock. If I wanted one of the Pre-made breads, I wouldn't have called ahead. The veggie Italian that I ordered with extra tomatoes had 2, yes 2 slices of tomatoes on the entire sandwich, was covered with leaf lettuce (which I've never seen at an Amatos) and looked like it was wrapped by my 8 year old as part of some art project. Always good for a semi-healthy alternative to burgers, the iconic "Italian" sandwich is made for on-the-go travelers and truckers at this easy-on/easy-off location near the Auburn exit of the Maine turnpike. Although, it's hard to imagine not being classified as a distracted driver if one decides to one-hand the steering wheel while attempting to keep all the cured olives, bits of onion, green peppers, crescents of tomato intact and not cascading to the nether regions of the vehicle i.e. the maddeningly impossible crevasses between the gear box and the seat. This location is twinned with the Irving/Circle K convenience store although it's beefed up on account of its status as a "truck stop". Sweaty truckers can avail themselves of a nice hot shower after collecting a load of water from Poland Spring up the road or the Wal-Mart DC a couple of exits on the turnpike. I've heard rumors that some folks sans internet, bring their laptops and while away hours freeloading off the WiFi. You can also order hot food like pizza, pasta, subs and calzones but I would advise eating here to avoid any further distractions. Staff is exceptionally friendly and pays close attention to the commercial drivers and manage to keep the place really clean despite the high level of foot traffic. read more

Stopped here on the way to a basketball game for a breakfast sandwich at 10am. There were two women working and just two other guys waiting for their breakfasts in the restaurant. Took them over 30 minutes to gets us our sandwiches with no sort of compensation offered. Absolutely insane. read more
