He worked with us to make sure the venue had everything we needed, and was timely in responding to our questions. The hall itself is beautiful and needs minimal decorations to pull of a grand event. A photo slideshow, speeches, cake cutting, dance party - the hall could accommodate it all. Our guests raved about the food afterwards and had a wonderful time. I have not dined at a fancier Indian restaurant before and was blessed with the experience I had here. Our table of 20 ordered quite a few standard appetizers. I forget the name of most of them but I did enjoy the vegetarian fritters and chicken sausage plates. Dipping sauces that came out with them were very nice as well. For my entree I ordered the seafood coconut soup. Which was more so a coconut based yellow curry with tons of scallops, prawns and mussels. It went very well with both rice and naan. For dessert we had Rasmalai (my first time!), honey donut balls and ice cream. The Rasmalai was this deliciously light cottage cheese type dessert with a milky syrup. This is literally the best Indian food I've ever had. I walked in after almost a 12 hour day of working and was craving some Indian food I am new to the area and I told them I am vegan and to show me what's good on their menu. I am blown away by their garbanzo curry and the spinach bread is amazing the saffron rice is probably the best rice I've ever tasted in my life and I highly recommend this place during these crazy times you need good food to get you through the day great job I'll be back for sure! read more

The worst Indian restaurant I have ever been to. This restaurant takes the cake for being crazy expensive and having pathetic service in the Bay Area. One would assume that for the price you are paying, you would atleast get some decent service. But I was very embarrassed taking my guests to this restaurant! We had our after wedding lunch here and despite having reservations they took such a long time to seat us. They seemed to have forgotten about us after seating. I had to go to the front desk and ask them to serve us ! Food was meh. Ordered butter chicken, prawn biryani, vindaloo, Chaat, veg biryani and veg curry. None of the dishes tasted great. Felt like a fool paying big bucks, getting crappy service at this "high end Indian restaurant". Avoid at all costs! read more

Indian food in he Bay Area is not too hard to find, and we heard about Amber being a good place to checkout. We went here for dinner, and ordered the vegetarian thali, kachori chat and jaljeera. The place was well lit up and had ample space to park as well. On entering, we heard traditional Punjabi music and were greeted promptly and led to our seats. The server was friendly and gave us time to place the order. They brought out the jaljeera first and the kachori chat, both were delicious. The chutney(imli and the green chutney) were especially yum. The thali was quite filling(and pricey too :p). It was a traditional North Indian style thali, with puri, raita, dal, rice and couple of veggie curries. They also had a masala chai and kheer(rice pudding like) dessert at the end. I have tried most of Indian Restaurants around the valley and i would say this place has the worst food till date. I was out there for a buffet with my family and we all were totally disappointed by the food. I belive they have mixed MSG ie Ajinomoto in their food. As soon i had my first spoon i realized something weird which i hadn't felt in any other restaurant. The butter chicken had a really sour taste to it and the sauce was horrible. I felt the lamb curry also had some unwanted ingredents mixed to it. I couldn't go for another chunk after the first. The fish in the fish curry was white but had some black patches to it which is not from burning. I doubt the quality of fish used. The naan bread was little crispier & burnt though its supposed to be soft but it was ok! I am already feeling something bad with my stomach . And finally the buffet was overpriced. For 3 people for buffet it came around 72$. If u charge $20 + in buffet atleast the food should be worth it!! There are way better Indian restaurants in the peninsula than this place with affordable pricing!! I would say the service was really well and staff were friendly. Totally overhyped place !! This place really AMAZED us! Every course in our meal left us wanting more! Appetizers were delicious- we had the Caraway Shrimp (the best Indian shrimp appetizer I've had till date!) & Curried Scallops (yum!). For Main course we tried Feta Goat Cheese Naan & it was phenomenal! We had it with chicken in saffron-almond based gravy & Achary mixed veggies, both were flavorful! Dessert was Rasmalai, which was really light (we didn't feel it too sweet or heavy after eating!)& so very tasty! And yes, the service was EXCELLENT. So friendly, polite & quick! Bar was fully stocked and we could order any alcoholic drink we wanted or convert any cocktail into its non alcoholic version (mocktail). We had the mango Rum cocktail and it was spot on! We had been long time customers since grad school. So for a special occasion, we came again to enjoy the food, at least we thought... We were a party of 5 and spent over $300 for dinner. And got sick likely from the briyani or raita - can't tell since it was eaten together. We called twice and spoke to the manager Deep, who indicated that he'd refund us for the food that made us sick. Never got the refund. To boot, we left our credit card there unknowingly for 2 days. No one called despite having our info from the reservations. Very poor customer service and beware of bad food. They didn't honor their word. Will NOT be returning. Wonderful birthday dinner for my husband at Amber last night. Lamb chop tandoori (Frontier Kebab) was delicious and new to us. Everything else - vegetable samosas, baingan bharta, signature butter chicken, naan and onion kulcha - came out promptly, at the perfect temperature and did not disappoint. Very disappointed! Amber India was highly recommended and I was looking forward to treating my friend for her birthday. Unfortunately, it was not a good experience. I made a reservation but when we arrived they wanted to seat us at a high bar table. When we said no they offered us a sofa with a coffee table. Finally they agreed to clear a table for us. The room was cold and my friend had to wear her coat. The service was very slow. They gave us the impression they did not want us there. When the food finally arrived it was delicious but we sat there for a long, long time with papadums and 2 tiny dips and had to ask several times for our main course. I was so disappointed especially as it cost a lot! 3 main courses, some papadums, naan and 2 glasses of red cost $160 + tip which I gave but resented as the service and attitude was so bad. read more

Yelp won't let me give zero stars, that's a shame. I usually don't post reviews, let alone negative ones. But I've to make an exception today. This week I'd called their front office to inquire about an event. It's for my daughter's 1st birthday party, pretty special occasion for any parent. The front office manager, Ravi, during our phone conversation asked me to drop-by during the weekend during business hours to talk further & take call from there. I did the same, my wife & daughter tagged along. Upon arriving, we were asked to wait in the lobby and Mr. Ravi didn't even have a minute to speak. Neither any of his staff had the decency to check whether we want to be seated while we wait. Mind you, we came driving all the way from Fremont with our baby. But who cares for that - nobody I guess. He handed over a note with his phone number & email-id scribbled over like chicken scratch. And told to mail him the details. Didn't even bother showing us the banquet hall which was discussed on the phone. I'm stopping right here. Long story short, never going back and will let my family, friends, colleagues know so they do the same. read more

I used to live in Los Altos almost 20 years ago and have great memories of eating at their old Mountain View location. I happened to be in the area today and decided to go to Amber India for dinner. I couldn't believe the prices! I understand that the pandemic was harsh on many businesses especially restaurants. But the prices were incredibly high. The food was ok but definitely not the same as I remember (just read that they have a different chef now which is too bad). The samosas have shrunk in size and the chutneys are not as good. The drinking water was horrible tasting. If you expect people to pay such high prices, then everything about the restaurant should be flawless. The front door handle had tape and looked dirty, the bathroom was not pleasant and the overall ambiance did not command the food prices. So sad and disappointing :( read more

This was our go to restaurant in mid to late 90s. We moved out of the Bay Area but frequently visited for work and every low and then dined at this restaurant. Went there today after a gap of 5-6 years ans boy was I shocked or was I shocked at how the quality of food dropped from a high 7 to a 1 at best. For papri chat, they served pani puri puris which a miserable mix of potatoes, some chutney and a drop or two of dahi. It certainly wasn't created by someone that knew what is the basic structure of paper chat and the management doesn't give a crap. They served frozen variety of mixed pakoras as well as naan. I'm writing a review regarding my experience hosting a small birthday party gathering of twenty people in their downstairs lounge. My Indian husband has always considered Amber India among his favorite Indian restaurants, so it was a natural choice for hosting a surprise party for him there. That the food would be delicious was a given, and others have Yelped about that. What I didn't know about before, though, was the amazing venue they could provide for our small gathering with their basement level lounge and the great service they'd provide for us there. They prepared a buffet for us from a choice of a couple of different menus. There was also a fully stocked bar and a bartender along with several people who laid out the buffet in an adjoining room and who generally kept things running smoothly clearing our dishes, cutting the cake, etc. The lounge feels like a cozy room in a nice home, complete with Eastern and Western decor including a Buddha bust and a few bookshelves holding the complete works of Shakespeare and Dickens, among other volumes. I felt the menu was quite limited but covers all types of dishes: nice samosas, I liked the palak paneer a lot; proteins tasted ok.. prices are a little on the high side, service is hit or miss (some servers are very good, other not very attentive). A week ago, 18 family and close friends of ours gathered at our favorite restaurant, Amber India, Los Altos, for a family member's retirement party. It was an an extraordinary event thanks to the assistance of Amber India manager Ravi Kumar, his wonderful staff, and as usual, an outstanding quality menu of our "Amber favorites" served family style! Ravi recommended holding our party in the spacious underground banquet venue at Amber. Everyone loved the beautiful setting, and the privacy. After repeatedly going to Sakoon for indian food when in large groups, we decided to try out this place. It had good reviews and was nearby Sakoon's location. We were a group of 12 people, who called only 10 minutes before our arrival for a table. The manager was really accommodating, he at first told us that we can sit outside, but once our group arrived and he saw that we had 3 small kids, he told us to wait 5 minutes and had a table set up inside since it was a little cold outside. I have frequented Amber India on and off over the last 10 years. Since the pandemic, the food quality has taken a turn for the worst, but I was happy to contribute towards it's recovery as a loyal customer for so many years, even though the cost has risen above reasonability. However, I will never be returning again after today's experience. To summarize, poor quality food at exorbitant prices and mistreatment of customers is unacceptable. And for those who care for the details, it is thoroughly explained below. On Father's Day, I brought my parents for dinner per my father's request for goat curry. I called the restaurant first to confirm they had goat curry today and they confirmed they did. I also asked whether a reservation was necessary given the holiday, and I was told walk-in would be fine. We arrived just before 7pm and the restaurant inside was empty, save 2 families that were dining at separate tables. Upon receiving menus, I noticed there was no goat curry option on the menu, so I asked if there was goat curry still available and was initially told no. When I mentioned I had called to confirm there was before we came and it's the reason why we came, the waiter said he would still have to check if the chef was willing to make it, since it's not on menu. The dining manager then came over to confirm we would get goat curry, and the waiter later came to also confirm we could order it. When our food arrived, the goat curry bone:meat ratio was 85% bone vs. 15% meat. The masala sauce deceivingly filled the bowl nicely. We also ordered a kofta dish for $22. It had 4 small koftas (each the size of cylindrical dimes) in the middle of a soup dish bathed in a tomato sauce. $22 for this dish meant each dime sized kofta was ~$5 each - SERIOUSLY? Next was the bread - we ordered 2 onion kulcha and 1 anjwain lacha paratha, each priced at $6 on the menu. We only received 1 of the 2 kulcha orders, but both bread items on the final receipt were charged at $6.50 each. I didn't even bring this up as an issue at the time, but after the final issue, I have no problem expressing the dishonesty in this restaurant's business practices now. We finished dinner within the hour and before receiving the final bill, I asked for more water at the table. My mother and I chose to visit the rest room before leaving, so I left my water on the table, assuming I could finish it when I got back. Apparently the dining manager had other plans while we stepped away. He picked up the final bill from the table and gave my father a look, to which my father replied that my mother and I were at the rest room and we would be leaving shortly. The manager's reply was, "there are people waiting". So my 77 yr old father took my mother's bag and the left over food from the table to wait in the foyer instead after being guilted to leave. When my mother and I returned, the table was already cleaned out, water gone and my father waiting with his hands full at the front of the restaurant. I can't phathom the urgency needed when we had barely sat at the restaurant for an hour. Was our $160 bill including a 20% tip not sufficient to give us proper service and respect as your customer? Would waiting another 1-2 minutes really made that much of a difference to your waiting customer vs. what it has cost you by losing a long-time customer? Would you have treated other customers (especially the non-desi groups) in the same way? I will never be returning to find out. As the saying goes, treat others as you would like to be treated - good luck to you Amber India restaurant. Your food quality paired with the prices are not worth it - but definitely not after your treatment of decent paying customers. read more

Amber India is one of the finest Americanized Indian food that I have tasted in the Bay Area. Americanized because the flavors are subtle and not as bold as one sees in India and you see dishes that are not typical in India or Indian restaurants -- Tandoori Salmon, Lobster tail et. al. The flavors are subtle and the service is prompt. The restaurant itself is quite spacious to that adds to the delight of eating here. We recently visited Amber India for a large gathering and we sampled everything from Chicken Tikka to tandoori Salmon. As strange as tandoori Salmon sounds it was quite good. I am very particular about my "bhindi" (okra) but I was quite pleasantly surprised. The black lentil (dal) was creamy and delicious. It was the right amount of spice level and firmness. The Navratan Korma was a bit of a disappointment but that might just be me since I am not very fond of milk-based gravies. The biryani was great as well, the rice cooked to perfection with chicken pieces juicy and tender. The veggie platter was great too. I think I liked the paneer cutlets the best. We tried a lot of food :) A word to the wise the place is hard to miss on El Camino and be ready to shell out some money as it is expensive. read more

We ordered takeout (as per the current COVID setup), and thoroughly enjoyed our meal! We ordered Palak Paneer, Butter Chicken, Rogan Josh, an eggplant dish, and pakoras. We also got Aloo Parantha and Onion Kulcha as sides. Everything was really good! I think the Aloo Parantha and Onion Kulcha would be better if I didn't have to drive back home since they got a bit moist in the foil packaging, but still everything was good. Amazingly, the Pakoras stayed crispy! We did have two issues with our experience at Amber India. This was our first time, so I hope it's only bad luck, but their website claimed to give a complimentary serving of rice (through 8/13 I believe) with every main dish. I missed it until I got home, but we didn't get any of the rice that was supposed to come with the three mains. Secondly, we ordered online and selected 5pm for the pickup time, but the food wasn't ready until 5:20pm. In fact, we got a text at 5pm saying they started prepping our food. I would definitely go back since the food was really good. I would give 4 stars, but I took one off for the aforementioned issues. It's really more of a 3.5. Besides dining here on an almost regular basis, we have hosted multiple events in the banquet hall - from Diwali parties to birthday and graduation parties. The staff is great and attentive. I love Amber, my only beef is that over the years, a lot of their food became more and more spicy, i eat spicy food, but i dont eat spicy just for the hack of it. It's sad that i have to struggle to eat my favorite butter chicken dish in the world. I used to come a lot more, but now i know it will be harder to get the non spicy dishes so me and my friends done come as often. The team is nice, the place is great, i never got any food poisoning after 14 years eating their buffet. Please just make it less spicy. read more

The bf took me to a lunch date at Amber for my birthday. It honestly was plan d since the rain ruined our other plans. This was one place that was also open on a Monday afternoon. It was pretty empty when we walked in but understandable due to the weather. I've been to the Amber in SF and San Jose but never this location. I ordered the Minty Mango Cooler and the bf sticked to a beer and for food we got the Tandoori Mixed Grill, Kadhai Paneer, garlic naan and the mango kulfi for dessert. The service was good as well as the food. I guess the only hiccup was when we received our sizzler. We didn't see the sheek kebab so we let the server know. He did go back and confirm that they were out of it and made it up to us by bringing out some lamb chops. I also thought the kulfi was a little too icy for my liking but nothing too bad. For sure Amber is a more upscale Indian restaurant than other cheaper establishments in the Bay. I usually go to Amber when we have something to celebrate since they are a little more fancy! read more
