We have eaten many times at Amber. Their service used to be excellent. And the food used to be delicious. However, lately, our last visit yesterday, was very disappointing. Firstly, service wasn't neither friendly, nor good. Secondly, food was extremely spicy. To the point of being inedible. We ordered Paneer Dish, Malai kofta and Dum Aloo. We had ordered "mild" spice for all our dishes. However, all of them were crazy spicy. When we complained to the server, he merely said that he would pass this on to the chef. WTH?? And to top it all, for a party of 5, they added a 20% gratuity to the bill! What a shame. We have loved the food and our previous experiences at Amber. Not going there again after this. read more

Pre-pandemic, I used to love this restaurant. Sadly, I doubt that I'll be back. Something's different. I went for lunch today outside on the patio, which is lovely. The food is great. The chicken in the butter chicken tasted like it was cooked yesterday, but it normally doesn't taste like that. Two things ruined the experience. First, we literally waited an hour for our food. No warnings, no apologies. No recognition that waiting an hour is unacceptable. Second, the prices are astronomical. The curries were $20 each. Butter chicken is $26! The biggest kick in the stomach was one piece of naan for $5.75! I was shocked when I saw that we only got one piece. At these prices, rice and naan should come with the meal. Go to Zareen's instead. Went for lunch buffet with a group of people and had a decent experience. The food wasn't quite as out of the league as I had expected from this place. Only 3 meat dishes in the buffet and no chicken tikka masala. They added 18 % gratuity for 5 of us even though this was a lunch buffet. I was here for a birthday party for two young ladies ( 70 & 75 respectively ) - the cellar was the perfect intimate setting for a gathering of 40 people ( I was one of the guests!) - Sunny and Virginia took impeccable care of our party in a warm, quiet and unobtrusive way - they were awesome! The food was vegetarian ( our birthday babes were vegetarians) but you didn't miss the meat - scrumptious food! There was cocktail samosas and gobi Manchurian for starters, there was a huge variety for main course including - Jeera Rice, Salad, Assorted Breads, Papad, Raita, Dal Tadka, Aloo Gobi, Kadhai Paneer, Achari Baingan among other things - every dish was perfectly executed. The dessert was a dal halwa which was scrumptious - I went in for seconds !!! There was a really good cutting chai which washed the meal down perfectly! I now have the perfect venue for a team lunch, an impromptu get-together or a "just for fun party" or maybe our anniversary party...this is it guys - I won't look further. We love Amber!! I chose Amber to have my high school graduation party and was absolutely blown away by how easy and amazing they made the whole process. The banquet hall was beautiful and very spacious. The staff was so accommodating on placing decorations, setting up the projector, helping with speakers/music, and everything else we needed help with. We were able to bring in decorations, set up how we wanted, and helped in any way we needed by the staff around us. The food was also phenomenal! Along with our Indian friends we also had a lot of non-Indians who had not had Indian food before - but they loved it! The paneer tikka was a fan favorite and everything else was just as delicious! Overall, the staff was so amazing and nice and the venue was just incredible!! I couldn't have asked for a better way to have my graduation party!! We hosted our 25th Wedding Anniversary celebration at 'Amber India' in their Cellar room downstairs for about 50 people gathering. The manager at this location Mr. Ravi was quite helpful and always available during the planning phase of the event. Mr. Ravi went out of his way and was very accommodating in every aspect. The event went smoothly. The ambience in the room was terrific. Appetizers, drinks and food were awesome. The service was prompt. This place is pretty lackluster. The service is good but the food really doesn't compare to a lot of the other Indian places in the area. To start, we ordered the Gobi Manchurian (stir-fried cauliflower) and the Veggie Samosas. The Gobi Manchurian was a bit gummy and it seemed as though they were re-heated, rather than freshly prepared. Samosas were good but nothing special. For entrees, we each ordered the butter chicken (the house special) and also tacked on a lentil dish as well. The butter chicken was fairly mild and needed more flavor (which is very disappointing for an Indian place). This is our favorite lunch place in Palo Alto. Hands down best Indian buffet. While the Amber India in SF on Market is also great, this place is so much more relaxed and laid back. Offerings are different each time, but we have never been disappointed. My 3 yr old is obsessed with their mango lassi. I'm obsessed with the dessert offerings. Use to love this place! Today, despite advance reservation, the service was very very slow. They made mistakes with our orders. Sat us down without giving us menu or offering water until we asked. We got tired of asking for menu so got up and picked it up ourselves. Even when not busy, we had to ask for service even water fill up. Appetizers were good but main was terrible. They charged us $33 for gratuity which ordinary I wouldn't ever regret paying but today felt ripped off! Amber our bill was high for service and food not even worth a fraction of what we paid. We had kids at our table so waiting for plates, water fill ups, napkins isn't something you expect at a restaurant where I paid more than $230 for a small dinner meal and TERRIBLE service! I had my baby shower here on Saturday and I'm very happy with the way things turned out. The food was excellent, and well timed, with a wide variety of vegetarian options. We were given use of their lounge that provided the perfect backdrop to an intimate affair. The service was also excellent.
