I've lived in Chesapeake for a very long time, and I'm almost ashamed to say this was my first time going! My husband and I had a delicious meal, and then stayed at a bar a bit to finish watching the World Cup match. The staff was fantastic, and the food delicious. Great little waterside gem!

First time to this location celebrating my husband and I's 21st wedding anniversary. My husband scheduled a reservation, so were greeted and sat immediately. Our server game and got our drink orders quickly, and followed up to take our orders. We both got soups as a starter and I got the scallops and risotto special, and my husband got the gnocchi carbonara. We both really liked the soup and the food was pretty good. We were interested in dessert but our waitress didn't bring them for almost 10 minutes after we had asked, and in that time our food was settling and we were feeling full. By the time we got the dessert menu, we just asked for the check and left. Overall everything was great, only a 4 star rating because of how long we had to wait at the end. The restaurant is in a marina on the second floor. We got there around 6 and were completely blinded by the sun light coming off the water, but it was an okay view.

The good: waitress was super kind! It wasn't busy so we were seated quickly. The she crab soup, gnocchi carbonara & Brussel sprouts were all delicious! Where it falls flat: the calamari was over cooked and pretty greasy. The filet was flavorless. I felt like the Demi-glacé was overpowering and gave the supposed to be elevated dish -- pot roast vibes. To finish the night we shared the chocolate cake. The menu states a 'double chocolate gnash cake'. I assumed they meant ganache but this cake was anything from rich. It was like eating pudding cake. The espresso martini was all martini and no espresso. We came for our anniversary dinner and were disappointed, especially for the cost of it all.

My husband and I went to Amber Lantern for our wedding anniversary and it did not disappoint! We'd heard so many good things about this place and were so excited to finally try it for our special night. We started with the baked brie and wow! The puff pastry was so light and flaky, the cheese was perfectly melted, and the fig sauce on top gave it the perfect touch of sweetness. For our entrées, my husband had the rack of lamb with mashed potatoes and asparagus, and I went with the scallops over mushroom risotto and spinach. I LOVE scallops and these were cooked and seasoned absolutely perfectly. My husband was just as satisfied with his lamb. We wrapped up our dinner with the lava cake and a scoop of vanilla ice cream. Another total hit. All in all, we couldn't have asked for a better anniversary dinner. Highly recommend!

This place is definitely tucked back off the road but it's worth it. Excellent food and great service we can't wait to go back! Update to 2/14/26 on their website on 2/13/26 it clearly stated they were not accepting reservations for the 14th. When I show up on the 14th they ask if we had reservations... WTF? Guess we will find another place for dinner...

The customer service is great. Staff is very friendly and professional. The food is amazing here. The food was played well and the temperature of the food was amazing. I would definitely come back here again. Me and my boyfriend came here for anniversary dinner. This place did not disappoint.

Please beware! If you go to this restaurant and do not like a meal, you will be charged 50% of the price for returning it and ordering a new meal per the owners policy. I am not a picky eater by any means and love trying new meals at new restaurants. However, I took one bite of the mahi mahi entree, spit it out in a napkin and sent it back as I refuse to spend $30+ on a meal I cannot enjoy. I am unsure if it was the risotto or mango sauce that tasted sour. I'm unsure if it is supposed to taste like that or not as this was my first time eating there. This is an absurd policy. They lost out on money as we had no problem paying for an entire new meal that I could enjoy and we would have both gotten dessert as we were celebrating a special occasion. Of course, a tip would have been included too. Thank you for ruining our anniversary. I will not be returning and will not be recommending this restaurant to anyone.

First let me say the staff were nice, the drinks were strong and the food was good. The place needs a little sprucing up,it has a good view of the water and the sunset was nice but the interior lacked any character it was very plain.

The Amber Lantern is a cozy restaurant on the water in the Chesapeake area. It was the perfect spot to celebrate with friends and family for a special occasion. While it's definitely in the most unassuming spot: off the highway and by what appears is a lot of construction. Once you get there, you'll find a peaceful, refined restaurant that's nice but not overly pretentious or fussy. The menu is a mix of seafood, American, and pasta dishes. So there's a good mix for pretty much everyone! Don't sleep on the warm bread. It's excellent. They also have delicious drinks and cocktails if you're looking for a fun libation. I really enjoyed my pasta. It was rich and tasty. The serving size was generous, so I definitely didn't leave hungry. The service was so friendly and accommodating. While this place is not an everyday staple. It's definitely a nice once in a while treat if you're looking for something nicer.

The food was delicious! I had scallops with mashed potatoes and my husband had the rack of lamb. The waitress was absolutely phenomenal and accommodated our anniversary dinner with care. The ambiance is always great and we enjoyed the South dining side of the restaurant with a nice view of the bar areas and games. Great experience as always!

Our server was very friendly and mostly attentive - we did have to remind him of some things a few times but overall, he took good care of us. We decided to split several things: -Seasonal Salad - Caprese-style with a bed of spinach, tomato and mozzarella. Pretty light on the tomato and mozzarella cheese but good. -16oz. Sirloin cooked Pittsburg-style (extra char) -Collard Greens -Macaroni and Cheese add Lobster -Steak Fries -Steak bites and mashed potatoes for my 2-year old -Chocolate Mousse Cake and Coffees for table Everything was delicious. Pace was nice, salad and bread out quickly as well as my daughter's meal. The steak was excellent and perfectly cooked. Their collard greens were wonderful as well as the macaroni and cheese. Honestly, I loved everything about it. We will add this into the rotation for steakhouses when in the mood. Prices are very high on the meats - but, quality and execution was good. So booking a reservation for mother's day brunch was a no brainer for me and I was super excited. Upon arrival I was seated immediately. The service Kyle came over almost immediately and explained the mimosas. We received water and our drinks and then it was all downhill from there. We proceeded to sit and wait for 40 very long minutes for our food. This was supposed to be an "all you can eat" toppas type of situation. It made me wonder was this done by design to control the amount of food that was being served??? Idk? I will say that as I looked around this was happening to everyone not just my table. As previously mentioned I've been to this restaurant several times because the food is Always delicious and the service was 5 stars. The food was not good this time. We tried steak and eggs, Deviled eggs, French toast, chicken and waffles, shrimp and grits, crab cake with Hollandaise sauce and yogurt ,with berries and granola. The server didn't ask what temperature we wanted our steak. My steak was medium well and the other steak was rare. We weren't told it was over easy eggs. 1 of us would have preferred scrambled. The only thing I loved was the shrimp and grits and the yogurt and berries. I will also add that $50 was taken off the bill and they comped my drinks. This was greatly appreciated. Had this gesture been accompanied with a pleasant attitude it would have been greatly appreciated.

This go round, Steinhilber's came to mind because I hadn't been in over 10 years, when I attended a tasting event here. Steinhilber's has been around since 1939, and it's easy to see how they've stood the test of time. The restaurant sits in a gorgeous waterfront area in Virginia Beach, not too far from Town Center. The setting alone makes it feel like you're going somewhere special for dinner. We went on a Sunday, and there was a bit of a wait for an inside table. However, for our group of four, there was no wait at all to sit outside. The weather was beautiful, there was a nice breeze coming off the waterfront, and they have umbrellas that provide plenty of shade. Honestly, sitting outside ended up being a great choice. The staff here is also incredibly polite. You can tell they've been trained in fine dining etiquette, and everyone we interacted with was professional and attentive. They were very accommodating with every inquiry and request my family and I had throughout the evening. Now for the food! The thing I remembered most from my visit over 10 years ago was how delicious their fried shrimp were, so of course I had to order them again. I'm happy to report that they were just as delicious as I remembered! Crispy, flavorful, and even better paired with their signature "Steiny's Sauce."
