I knew I'd find Polish food while going thru the Dayton area. Thankfully this sweet restaurant was less than fifteen minutes from my hotel. The Warsaw Medley had everything on it that my mother made each year for our traditional Christmas eve dinner. Stuffed cabbage (golumpki), potato pierogi, Polish style sauerkraut, and fresh (not smoked) Polish sausage. An NA beer went so well with it. Everything was delicious and so filling I could barely finish it. It also came with a salad to start. I chose the homemade blue cheese dressing that had lots of dill in it. Wonderful. I couldn't pass up the cherry almond bread pudding so got it to go to have for breakfast at the hotel the next morning. It's extremely sweet so could only eat half, but brought the rest home. The people who live here are lucky to have such an excellent restaurant! The staff is friendly and very attentive too. I hope to make it back again next time I'm in the area. read more

Ordered the Amber Rose sampler. Having never been here before and wanting to try as much as possible after the 1hour and 10 minute drive. Google maps took me on a tour of Dayton. Potato pancake excellent , sausage mildly warm , sauerkraut hot and tasty , cabbage roll ,bland. Server/waitress (I sat at the bar) was excellent. Answered my questions and was not a bother but right at hand when I was ready to order. Neat old building. And a comfortable bar stool. A little pricey at $50.00 with tip for Eastern European peasants food. But we all know peasants produce the best food. read more

The Mr. and I enjoyed a wonderful dinner here YEARS ago, and I just revisited with a couple of friends a few weekends ago and was equally charmed by the cozy feel of the dining space and the tasty, eclectic, "not what you get at every other place in town" menu!! Charming spot in a lovely old house in the Dayton suburbs. A short drive from the USAF museum and we'll worth it. They offer a nice selection of eastern European dishes as well as American classics like the cheeseburger. I highly recommend the Warsaw Medly. Nice selection of wines and draft and bottled beers. We've been here a few times, I usually order the cabbage rolls, which I really enjoy. I also like to get the potato pancakes, even though they're not exactly like the ones I would get as a child. We all enjoy the atmosphere there, the staff has always treated us well, once they even gave us a tour of the upstairs to talk about the ghost! This is a charming old school restaurant that evokes the Eastern European enclaves in New York. I've even been to Eastern Europe- quite a while ago, but I'm confident in calling this place authentic. The building is old and well preserved with an interesting history. Tin ceilings, classic hanging lights, lots of dark wood, stained glass. We came late in the lunch time. Service was top notch. Food came quickly and it was all fabulous. They offer turtle soup, which my husband (who is Polish from Milwaukee) loves. He chose a cup in lieu of salad and gave it high marks. In fact he ordered a bowl to take home too. Between us we had potato pancakes, stuffed mushrooms (no breadcrumbs!), Beef Stroganoff, and the Warsaw Medley which included pierogies, stuffed cabbage, a sausage link, and probably the best sauerkraut I've ever tasted. Very different from typical style, and not at all "sour." We loved every bite of every dish. OK, I admit I took home an order of potato pancakes too. Good sized parking lot. Discount for paying cash. Bathroom was sparkling clean. This is the only restaurant of its kind that I've found within 40 miles of my home base (Scary, right?) so I'm pretty ecstatic to find it and that it is SO GOOD. So will I gladly drive 60 miles RT for these pierogies and potato pancakes? You bet, and I hope to do so again real soon. read more

Ate here based on a friend's recommendation. WOW--what a gem ! Not located in the best of neighborhoods, but don't let that fool ya. We started with the sauerkraut balls that had a mustard and horseradish cream sauce. They were terrific. I didn't think I would like turtle soup since the last time I had it was about 50 years ago (mock turtle soup made locally) but theirs was WONDERFUL and I loved it. My wife had a cabbage roll and I had the Hunter schnitzel. I enjoyed them both. We had to take some leftovers home, but we ordered a piece of Black Forest cake for dessert. Generous portion and a superb ending to the meal--we had to take some of that home, too. Service by Aimee was friendly and very attentive. Have been to this restaurant many times over the decades and generally enjoy it, but it can be hit or miss. The last experience in early November, we had friendly dinner service but the food took forever to come out. The waitress apologized a few times, and we ended up being late to our event afterward. We both enjoyed the taste and temp of our dishes once finally received, but my chicken paprikas had almost no chicken in it. It was mostly just sauce. Besides this most recent visit, we enjoy the variety of European menu items that you can't find anywhere else (pierogies, paprikas, cabbage rolls) and good import beer selection. This is a local gem sitting in a rundown neighborhood, but it's worth a visit. The interior will surprise you. There's plenty of free parking also. read more

We love finding hidden gems like Amber Rose. This restaurant was a trip back to family-run restaurants of the past. It has a rustic, warm, and welcoming ambiance and decor in an old two-story structure (formerly a neighborhood market) in an Old North Dayton neighborhood. Elinor's turtle soup is very good, with just the right amount of turtle and proper spices. As an appetizer, we ordered the sauerkraut balls, which were perfectly prepared and served with a spicy mustard and horseradish sauce. We ordered the Amber Rose Sampler appetizer as a shared entree to get a variety of food to sample. The sampler included an outstanding bratwurst that is housemade, marinated in red wine overnight, oven-baked in the wine, and then grilled (we took a few uncooked bratwurst home with us). The homemade sauerkraut with bacon and sesame seeds is excellent. The cabbage roll was more meat than rice on the inside which was great. More sauce would have made it even better. The only miss was over cooked potato pancake. The bread pudding is wonderful - don't miss it! Our server was friendly, attentive, and accommodating. This is a restaurant that does european/german food and it's inside of a house in Dayton. I think they also do catering. So I think that the food was very straightforward and I didn't expect anything too different. But some of the food was strange. For example the house salad with caesar dressing wasn't very good. It felt like the taste was off somehow - it felt like the dressing was too much on the side of sweet/sour rather than salty. I'm not sure, but dressing was just off to me. The cherry tomatoes didn't have very much flavor either. I got the sausage sampler for $19. The sausages were OK. One of them was kind of chewy and I didn't enjoy it that much. The other ones were decent. They were grilled and well heated up. But my guess is that I don't think they're making them in house, they are just buying them and serving them. Sauerkraut was OK. Location had some signs of wear and tear. The plates were a bit old and showed dark marks from years of wear and tear. On the bright side the service was very nice and very fast. Such a cool, old place. It's definitely worth the trip to old north Dayton. If you're a polish food lover, this is a great place to give a try. My polish grandparents loved this place and would frequent it often in their day. We started with their sauerkraut balls for an appetizer. They were so yummy! We both went for the Warsaw Medley as our main. It's amazing. You get so much food and get to try a little bit of everything, including cabbage roll, polish sausage, pierogis, and some killer sauerkraut. Our waitress was top notch all evening. We left stuffed but with lots of left overs for the next day. Three of us dining on Saturday. They open at 4 and we arrived early. We waited in our car in the parking lot and watched several cars arrive early too. Ordered pierogi and stuffed mushroom appetizers. They had a special St Patrick's Day menu. We ordered Rueben chowder. Chowder was just okay. My stuffed cabbage came with mashed potatoes and I substituted sauerkraut for the vegetable. All very good. Also we ordered Warsaw Platter. Outstanding and a lot of food.
