We came for happy hour and the tableside guacamole and sat at the bar. Our bartender was amazing, super friendly, fun, and made the whole experience really enjoyable! I was a little disappointed in the tableside guacamole. It felt rushed and was lacking in flavor, especially since that was one of the things we came specifically to try. I'm not sure where to start. My wife and I decided to go have dinner here. We haven't been here in a while. Like a lot of other people we are on a budget. We sit down to order and look at the menu and it says we're gonna be charged a 4% labor charge. What the heck is that and why are we hoping to pay for the labor, I thought that's what the food was for. We had to wait almost 10 minutes before our server came over to take our drink order and we were ready to order as well. I ordered the chicken chimichanga and my wife ordered the mini chimis and the coconut shrimp. The food was "ok" nothing to get overly excited about. My chimney was decent however I would've liked it a little bit more crispy. My wife said her two items were just ok as well. I'm not sure if they're shortstaffed by our server who was nice by the way, was just slow or overwhelmed with too many tables. I feel like it might be a little petty, but this started charging an $.80 Covid fee five years ago now it's escalated up 200% that just seems wrong. I'm not sure how often we're gonna go back because after all, we are in Tucson and there are a ton of Mexican restaurants here. read more

If you're in Tucson and craving authentic Mexican food, Guadalajara Grill & Tequila Bar is a must-visit. The grilled steak was absolutely incredible perfectly seasoned, tender, and cooked just right. The fried fish was just as impressive, crispy on the outside and flaky on the inside with amazing flavor. The service was at a different level as well and a must experience. What really takes the experience to another level is their homemade salsa. Fresh, bold, and packed with flavor, it's easily some of the best salsa I've had. Guadalajara has long been one of Tucson's staple Mexican restaurants, and there are still things it does really well--the tableside salsa and guacamole, chips, drinks, and lively atmosphere are all highlights. Unfortunately, this location doesn't seem to live up to the reputation it once had. The food quality has noticeably declined, and the service on recent visits has been seriously lacking. It's certainly not a bad restaurant, but what once felt like one of Tucson's go-to Mexican spots now feels a bit overrated and leaves me looking for other Mexican restaurants around town. read more

We stopped by on a Saturday for lunch before we went to visit the zoo. We are from out of town & this was our first time here. We were seated quickly and our waiter brought our drinks to us quickly. The time to order & the time it took to get our food in total took a while, but we overheard someone say a server had called out so ours was working overtime so we didn't mind waiting. The tableside salsa & guacamole were fantastic! It was fun watching her make it right next to us, and it tasted delicious. We were all also quite pleased with the meals we picked out, everything was hot, the portions were plentiful, and we didn't have any issues with our food. The restaurant itself seemed clean as did the bathrooms. There was a bar area you could sit at if you didn't want a table, and it wasn't overly noisy so you could still have a conversation with your party. I also enjoyed the decor they have around the restaurant, there were a lot of really pretty glass pieces hanging from the ceiling. For me, Guad's, as the local college kids call it, is part of my holy grail of Mexican restaurants I love to frequent. As a former Arizonan, this Tucson staple reminds me of where I first fell in love with Mexican food as a kid. The decor is fun, a little loud maybe, but homey and a bit of a throw back to days past. Lots of comfortable seating with big booths for groups. But most importantly the food is exactly what I look for. Fresh, hot tortilla chips, table side salsa (which I've never seen before) along with table side guacamole and white queso dip will have you stuffed before your entrees even come. But it's so worth it. I got a standard house margarita and it was delicious, not too sweet with a decent amount of tequila, For my entree, I opted for the chicken mole and it more than delivered. Service was friendly and accommodating. Can't wait to go back next time I'm in Tucson. read more

I came for dinner tonight with my friend, and there was a wait. We ended up sitting at the bar so we didn't have to wait for a table. The bartender, KJ, was really funny and energetic! Our service was very slow overall, and it took forever to get all of the things that we ordered. We didn't get chips and salsa, until at least half an hour after we had been sitting there, and then our food came out probably another 45 minutes after that. Thank goodness, we were talking forever, but it was kind of unreal how long it took! When we got our food, mine was actually pretty room temperature and not warm at all. read more

Second time here. Not one of my top Mexican spots in Tucson... This was is well known for fresh made salsa and guacamole. Which always good. We had a large party of 11 of us. We waited 35 minutes for the salsa lady. Chips and waters were brought to us early.. we were starving. Food was okay! By the time our food got there we were full of chips and salsa! Service was nice. His name was Luis, he forgot something for others. Even other employees I met while there were nice as well. Loved the ambiance inside. So much going on. We have been here twice for big family dinners. Once with 12 people and once with 16. They are always very accommodating and the service is great. The food is pretty standard Mexican fare. Walked in shortly after 6pm on a Friday and sat at the bar since I was sola. Ordered Pollo en Mole with flour tortillas with water to drink. I really like the mole here. It took 45 minutes for my meal to get to me! I was served after three other customers who came in after me. The server who took my original order was not the same one who later dropped off my plate. While my meal was good, service was below standard as my server never checked in on me, never refilled my water, never asked if I wanted anything else. And the odd thing was how my server held the credit card reader while I signed it. She held on to the pad and my card while I signed. Was she expecting me to run off without paying? She did not make me feel welcome. I left at 7pm as the crowd started coming and the bar filled up. read more

Guadalajara's is a Tucson gem! Definitely a great spot for authentic Mexican food. I get the steak fajitas (which come sizzling straight off the grill) and their regular and frozen margaritas are also superb. Service is exceptional. You're also provided fresh salsa and chips before every meal! The only thing that took away from the experience was that there was a market outside and the speakers were blasting music extremely loud near the entrance. read more

One of my favorite items to order at Guadalarjara is the steak fajitas! They come out sizzling from the kitchen and are delicious. We were looking forward to eating here, been here before. It was not that crowded, but three different people ignored us at the door. When my friend finally spoke up and asked for a booth, one of the women showed us to a table. We asked for a booth again and she gave us one. The table-side salsa was prompt and delicious. The woman who prepared it was very friendly and gracious. It took a while for the waiter to come over; he was not particularly friendly or enthusiastic. He said they didn't have the tequila I wanted, but had my second choice. When the margarita came, he said it was the original tequila I had ordered. It was an extra $4, came out to $16 for the drink. It was watered down and disappointing. I have had very good margaritas at GMG before. It took a while for him to take our order. He seemed only partially engaged with us, like he could barely be bothered. We tried to ask him one more thing and he hurried away without listening. When the food arrived, it looked fantastic on the plate. Very appetizing. But my Tres Banderas enchiladas had chicken in the regular enchilada and chunks of tough beef in the mole enchilada. I pointed this out to the waiter and he tried to tell me that's the way the dish was always prepared. Seriously? I showed him the dish on the menu. Yup, chicken mole was one of the enchiladas. Imagine that. My friend's lobster enchiladas were fantastic! Absolutely superb. Plenty of tasty shredded lobster, lovely sauce. I'll order that next time. The service was lackluster and put a damper on a night out we'd been looking forward to. Great food!! Great service! And a good vibe overall. I tried the chimi plate and loved it! The carne was grilled to perfection and the Mexican rice I got was just like my Tía made when I was a kid. I love it when I find places like this! Beans were good too and their tortilla chips are super fresh. My only complaints are the pretty bland guacamole and the chip to guacamole ratio. A true Margarita requires just three simple ingredients: tequila, fresh lime juice, and triple sec. No added sweetener necessary. A group of us were in Tucson for the weekend, and one of my my gal pals suggested we come here to relive her college days. $92 house margarita fountain? Okay! We ordered it and we shared it with the table next to us. It was a lot of rapidly-warming margarita to imbibe. I ordered the Plato Bandera ($20.45 - "Brilliant colors of the Mexican flag paired with the sensational flavors in enchiladas; pork verde chile, beef chile rojo, and a creamy white sauce chicken enchilada"; served with rice and beans). I really enjoyed my plate and all the flavors of the dish. Perhaps I had gotten full off slamming back margaritas, but I ended up taking home leftovers. And then my leftovers went home with someone else. One thing to note: I love that they do table-side salsa. That alone gives this place an extra star. Great place! Came here for a group dinner the meal was amazing had a cheese enchilada, skirt steak, rice, beans and Chili Relleno (shared with a friend and ordered one more cheese enchilada) was perfect for two. My four star is because of the cocktails. None of us loved them either two sweet (mine was supposed to be a spicy cucumber margarita instead it tasted like a sweet cucumber virgin drink). I had a combo plate with carne asada, a chile relleno, and a chicken enchilada. Meh, yuck, and meh. OK granted, this is a week after I had the best carne at Charro's, but this carne was bland. The chile relleno had a thick, unappetizing coating and didn't taste good. After two bites I was done. The enchilada was OK, but nothing to write home about. The fresh salsa was very good. The guac was OK. The waiter was nice and friendly. Geez, you want good Mexican food, the kind that Tucson is famous for? Go somewhere else. (Check out my reviews.) 5* = A top favorite. Mind-blowing good. I will definitely return and I will go out of my way to go here. Worth every dime of my money. 4* = Outstanding. Top-tier. Some elements not quite as good as it gets, but it still is worthy of my regular business. 3* = Good experience. I might do repeat business if it is convenient, the only option, the only one in its category, or on a whim, but would not be among the first thing to come to mind. We hosted a fiesta luncheon here for family members in honor of our grandson graduating from the University of Arizona's Eller College of Management "cum laude" that morning. A bountiful feast of Mexican food was enjoyed by all assembled. We began with two stations creating tableside Guacamole, and one creating custom-made Salsa, augmented of course by housemade Tortilla Chips. The Guac was cool and very tasty; the Salsa was warming; and three orders of Queso Fundido oozing with Jack Cheese kept guests busy before individual entrees were ordered. To round out the appetizers for eight diners, an order of Camarones Panzon (bacon-wrapped shrimp) was good, but no water was served for 10 minutes after the Guac and Salsa arrived. Then our table was still short 3 waters at first. I like to have cold water handy to offset the spices and chili peppers inherent in prepared Salsa and Guacamole. I shared an entree with my son and daughter-in-law, and half of it was left at meal's end. Molcajete Ultimo, as it was called, contained shrimp, carnitas, chicken breast, and steak cutlets, along with peppers, onions and a Tomato-Cheese Sauce. It arrived steaming in a stone mortar, along with huge smoking Flour Tortillas, Refried Beans, and Mexican Rice. Others in my party enjoyed Ceviche Blanco with both shrimp and fish, Jumbo Shrimp Fajitas, a Mexican Chopped Salad, Chicken Tinga Tacos, and Quesabirria Beef Tacos. Everyone seemed to be pleased with their selections. Service was good overall. We received more hot Flour Tortillas upon request, and eventually water and Iced Tea. The food was worth the visit, and decorative items recalling Old Mexico abound throughout the several connected dining rooms that provided a festive ambiance. When I am back in Tucson, it is likely that I will dine again at one of the now five locations for Guadalajara Mexican Grill. read more

We had been going to this location for the past 5 years whenever we come into town. We went to the Prince Rd location about 8 months ago and couldn't believe how much better it was than this location and we have patronized that location since. We were staying area of the Broadway location for UA family weekend and decided to give this location a try again. Our experience just solidified that we will stick with the prince rd location from now on. We ordered 2 identical orders- chicken flautas with rice only and *no dairy* due to an allergy. The server read it back to us to confirm, "no beans? No dairy?" yes, correct. We order this at the Prince Rd location all the time and it is always correct. As you can see from the photo we did not get what we ordered. We were in a pinch to leave town and did not have time to send it back. We ate what we could and left. The chips were very tough, and although there were not very many cars in the parking lot, the service was very slow. read more

But there were reservations made far in advance so it's not like it was a surprise and it's not like the restaurant was packed. Got the Mexican paella and the dish reeked of alcohol and tasted bitter and almost as though someone had dumped a half gallon of tequila in it. When I asked the waiter, he said nothing would've caused that. No offer to remove the meal off the bill or offer a replacement meal. Save your money and go to a different restaurant. This place is amazing. Great ambiance. Amazing food. Even better service Tucson is known to be a foodie town and yet this place stands out. I've only lived in this area for a few months but Gudalajaras has become a staple for me and I've been three three times this month alone. Quality of their AL Pastor and Carne Asada is off the hook. The meet is always perfectly seasoned and grilled Armando was my waiter and bar tender and was on point! Super friendly, attentive, efficient and makes amazing drinks! I will only seat at the bar area because he is just perfect and immaculate at what he does. He made is feel as though we had been going there for years! I was in town visiting Tucson and had been to this location previously - loved it last time! This time we got there and it was definitely crowded; were told the wait would be about 30 minutes. We were pleasantly surprised when we were seated in less than 10 - but it sort of went downhill from there. It took about 10 minutes to get our water (which did not taste good), and the server told us he would be right w us. Another 10 minutes and he comes to take our order and signal for the table side salsa to come our way. The woman making the table side salsa and guac was great (don't forget to tip her!) and we ordered margaritas and our meal. I had the chili Colorado and my friend ordered the bacon wrapped burro. Our food came out fast, but mine was cold inside. Not room temp but actually refrigerator cold. I couldn't eat it. And our margaritas were finally delivered about 2 minutes before we paid our bill, which was about 30 minutes after we ordered. For a $90 meal, it was definitely disappointing :( giving some grace because it was busy (and very, very loud) but had it been my first experience, I'd definitely not plan to go back read more

The food is good and the atmosphere is nice, but the service is SLOW Staying at an airbnb almost right across the street so we've gone twice now and I would not go back The first day we had a male waiter who kept telling us he would be with us soon and it took at least 20 minutes before he even took our order - I get it things happen, but there was a couple that got sat next to us with the same waiter and he attended to them promptly. Tried it again for an early dinner around 4:30 PM so it was not super busy yet and had a female server. We had to ask other people multiple times for things we had asked her for and it took close to an hour to get our food. With all the options around here, there is no reason to go back. read more

It took over 20 minutes to get seated, even though the restaurant wasn't full. No one welcomed us, and the hostess was busy on the phone with a complaint the entire time. I eventually had to approach a waiter myself, but he wasn't very pleasant and asked me to wait. The situation could have been handled better--maybe the hostess could've paused the call to seat guests or handed it to a manager. Once seated, our waiter, Steven, was attentive and friendly. The made-at-your-table experience was unique, and the entrees were prepared as ordered. I tried the Molcajete Ultimo (shrimp, steak, chicken, and carnitas), and Karina had the chile colorado--both were decent, but not amazing. The drinks, however, were a letdown, especially the Bloody Mary and the horchata. The ambiance was a bright spot--colorful, with good music and a traditional Guadalajara vibe.
