Well my personal fav is still the first place this owner has and still open in Garland Tortillas Del Rancho. Not many people know this but yes it is true. The menu is the same but the food well its not. The chips are yummy and the salsa is good for those that don't want that kick the way I like it. Not all Texans have a soft pallet lol. It is your typical Tex Mex and I do like most of it, I just like the cooks at her other place better and even the wait staff. Knowing she is paying more for this location I understand the price difference and the fact they have a full bar but new management needs to be looked into. I noticed many dishes out and service not up to par the way this needs to certainly be. I don't like to ask for my drinks to be refilled over and over again. The drinks, well the drinks need a real bartender that knows how to mix and knows what a good Margarita should taste like! These were cheap 3.00 and tasted cheap too. Would have rather paid 5.00 for a nice good tasting drink. Karaoke night is not a personal fav of mine but it is fun to watch people and laugh. Will I go back certainly but if I have more time to drive to Garland I certainly will. read more

I travel all over the U.S. And finding good Mexican food can be a challenge. We relocated to the area and Amelias was recommended. We love it Ambience is warm and welcoming, waitress super friendly, quiet music and nice bar area. The lighting is perfect. The quesadillas are hearty full of meat and cheese and perfect crunchy tortilla. Chips are thicker than I normally prefer but they had a good flavor. Yikes, worst food experience ever at a Mexican restaurant. Starting with the chips - they were thick and hard as rocks. Waited forever for the enchiladas. The chicken in the enchilada was very watery and sour tasting. The fajita beef in the enchilada was also watery, spicy and tasted old/spoiled. The enchilada itself was very mushy and split apart when I put my fork in it. The refried beans were also watered down. Worst of all, the edges of the plates were dirty, could see lots of fingerprints where someone touched the food. Yikes! I guess that leaves the rice and the service, which were OK. The atmosphere is average. Hard chairs and a few half booths, which were very close together. We left without eating more than a few chips and a small taste of the enchiladas. Stopped in today for a drink and chips. Chips were mostly crumbs. Cheese sauce was nothing more than velveeta and most likely just from a can. Why is it that restaurants around here bring salsa in tiny containers? Mango Jalapeño Margarita was pathetic and weak. Couldn't taste mango, jalapeño or tequila. Definitely not worth the $11 price. Friendly service though speaking Spanish would have been helpful with our service non the less our order came out correct and the portion sizes are generous. Will definitely try this place again. I ordered quesadillas which is what I generally order for a first time experience as I'm picky and it's fairly simple to make. Good flavor and will be more adventurous next time. After our chips and salsa were brought to our table, I thought this place was going to have great food. Think again. The chips and salsa are great, but once the drinks and food came it was a huge disappointment. The drinks were weak on alcohol, and so sugary that I might as well have went into diabetic coma. Once our food came out, it was cold and uneatable. Honestly, just go to taco cabana and save half the money. This place is a poor man's version of mi Cocina. Everything is closed due to the Coronavirus, except for curbside pickup or delivery. Was able to order at curbside, staffer took my large order without writing it down. It all came out correct! Made suggestions and made sure he remained at the proper distance. Kudos! Support your small business owned establishments. You would think, as a native Texan, that my knowledge on Mexican food would be superb, but not me. You can imagine my uneasiness whenever I walk into a mexican restaurant, with a menu foreign to me, I always just order a taco and call it a day. But, not at Amelia's. From the moment I walked in the door I was greeted by a friendly waitstaff that was genuinely excited to serve me. Our waitress was kind and personable. She made me feel at ease as she walked me through the menu, describing almost every item in great detail. She made recommendations for each of my guest's specific tastes, and we were all extremely pleased. My ceviche was out of the world, and I wiped the plate clean! (Not without a fight from my friend who continuously tried to steal bites!) I can honestly proclaim to be a mexican cuisine enthusiast after visiting Amelia's. I will be back, again and again to try everything they have to offer. We love amelia's, and go there all the time. But I found one dish and get it every time. Bistek Flameado - steak with melted montetrey cheese, rice, beans, salad, bell pepper, onions and guacamole. My wife and I truly tried to enjoy the food. I ordered the chicken enchiladas and she ordered the brisket tacos. There was next to no chicken in the enchiladas and the food had no flavor or spice. Good service but the food and drink is kinda lacking. Margaritas are... Oddly sweet. The chips were... Oddly thick and not that flavorful, and same with the salsa. Not much flavor, just spicy. The chicken fajitas according to my wife is good but she didn't like the tortillas. I got the steak fajitas and, especially for the price, they were very chewy and lacked any sort of flavor. The cheese had more flavor than the steak. At least the portions were big, but I think I'd prefer slightly smaller portions and a higher quality of food. read more
