Drove out here specifically for 2 items listed on the menu...and to not disappoint my grand nephew he wanted ceviche & and i chile rellenos, they were out if both...Ordered Caldo de Mariscos and would not order it again; the soup has no fish stock in it and lacks fish flavor plus they use imitation crab, a lot of it! The sopes were good and so were the cheese enchiladas...they do have the best corn tortillas!! read more

I know things are tough these days with hiring and keeping employees but this place needs help. Waited at the "please wait to be seated" sign for 10 minutes, hostess brought water and chips/salsa, we waited another 10 for a waitress to come by after I had to get her attention. We then waited 17-20 minutes for our food. Never asked what we might want to drink other than water. After we ate, again had to track someone down for a take out box and ticket. Then it took another 8 minutes to run the credit card through so we could leave. We arrived at 12:00 and finally left after 1:30... The place was not that busy, the food was so-so, but the lack of service - WOW. read more

My wife and I heard of this place snd others ( good, bad) stories. We entered on Friday the 15th of January and there was a bit of a wait. As we sat there with other families waiting for an available table a family just walked in and noticed someone already sitting and instead of waiting like the kind hostess repeatedly asked them they insisted on putting tables together with the people already sitting at a 4 top and it's now an8-10 top. No msnager stoped or addressed the situation as we expressed our disatisfation. We left and the hostess could only hope you have a better night. We will never eat here as you don't get a second chance to make a first impression .. but I guess we were not the overly privlaged family that got to sit themselves where they wanted. read more

Top 5 Mexican restaurants for me! Great food, cold drinks and extremely affordable. We were there on Cinco De Mayo and it was packed! They had karaoke & a mechanical bull in the parking lot. We waited maybe 5-10 minutes for a table, but the food came out surprisingly fast and bubbly hot for how busy they were. Salsa was so fresh, just wish it came in a bigger bowl 'cause I could drink it! Enchiladas: cheese enchiladas are full of melty, bubbly cheese and the chili sauce is rich and meaty. Chicken enchiladas with sour cream sauce: the sour cream has that great sour flavor you want with the tender chicken that just a little kick of spice. Was not expecting the spinach enchiladas to be exciting as they were, wow! Fresh spinach with onions and peppers were sauteed perfectly and had wonderful flavor and HEAT! They nail the rice and bean, but those tortillas...OMG. Is there anything better than homemade tortillas? Nope! Chicken fajita salad was huge! Full of fresh lettuce and grilled chicken. This is based on take and it being our first time. I do intend to try it again; dine-in this time. Phone order was easy, hostess was friendly. Ordered a bowl of chips and queso with pico de Gallo added, Gordita plate, Chile relleno with cheese plate. Plates came with beans and rice. Pulled into the designated parking and the food came out quickly. I'm going to comment on the food from least favorable to most. Chips, two TINY bags that clearly had been made at best, at the start of the day, possibly the day before. Stale. Crisped them up in the air fryer. Rice - to be fair, 99.99% of Spanish rice at restaurants is just bland Queso - meh, but the kicker is they charge $1.50 extra for adding pico and I swear there wasn't more then part of a spoonful sprinkled on top. Gorditas - 2 ground beef, one barbacoa. Ground beef was meh, had hoped it was picadillo but it wasn't. The barbacoa was good! Chile relleno - my wife liked it, not the biggest but she has a high bar for them. Beans - hands down the best tasting part of the meal. Again, I'll try dine-in since take out can challenging. But dine in or takeout, you can have flavor, you can have freshness and this was a little lacking in both. read more

My favorite is the pechuga ranchera because the sauce they put over the chicken is so good! Love this place. Amazing place. The atmosphere is ...fun. Friendly. You feel at home and relaxed. The food is hand made I'm told. You can tell. Everything is good. I love the shrimp cocktail. A must if you like shrimp. Queso with pica de Gallo is good too. I normally get the Guiso de Puerco. Sooooooo good. Spicy. The fish tacos are good. The Ceviche is amazing. Everything is good. Greeting: It took over 5 min just to be greeted. Wait for Seating: Although there were a few open tables, after we were finally greeted, we kept being told to give the greeter some time to clean tables. She said this a few times, one time stating to give her "15 minutes to clean". Overall, we waited approximately 25 min...but were never actually told there was a "wait". No names taken. Just told to give her time to "clean tables". It was just awkward. Seating: Finally seated, I was annoyed to have to clean off my own chair that I would think should have been cleaned since it took our greeter over 15 min to clean. Server: Our server was great. It took over 5 min for her to greet us or take our drink order, but I think there was some confusion about whose table it was. There were just a few servers in there. Margaritas: Soooooo good!!!!! They have this amazing fajita plate that feeds 3+ people. Amazing steak, chicken, shrimp and sausage combo and super reasonably priced! They only lost a star for the atmosphere. The live singing was too loud and out of tune and the service was a little slow for a Thursday night with a full wait staff and few full tables. read more

We used to order from Amelia's quite often, but the food and service became very inconsistent. We have unfortunately had to have many conversations (arguments) with management about incorrect orders, specifically because they would constantly slip cheese and sour cream into orders with a dairy allergy. In my most recent showdown with management, I had a pretty large pickup order for my family and friends. When I got home, many orders where incorrect or completely missing. I got very frustrated when one of the "managers" told me that they could not do partial refunds. After way too much time spent arguing, I made him transfer me to the real manager. Real manager told me he would process my refund right away and would call me back with a confirmation. Over 4 weeks later, I never got a call back, and I never got a refund. I'm done ordering from Amelia's because of the dishonesty and because the food really isn't good enough to outweigh the bad. If you do decide to go, don't order enchiladas, they're pretty gross. I know what bad reviews can do to small businesses so I do not take it lightly. I just think there are plenty of other great restaurants in Rowlett area that deserve your business more than Amelia's. read more

Thursday night 5/4 very crowded one table had 25 or more all the attention was given to them exclusively! We waited 50 minutes after ordering. So my wife went and asked our waiter we were wanting to know. He claimed the group was why? I've been coming here a lot of times but I never get a chance to leave my feedback until now. Only because I was at Fort Worth today and went to a hole in a wall authentic Mexican restaurant which is famous for their menudo. I got so excited that I ordered menudo to go so I can eat other food from their breakfast menu. To my disappointment, it wasn't the best menudo I've ever eaten. That's when I realized Amelia has the BEST menudo and it's close to my house! I've been a fan or Amelia's and their former restaurant in Garland since I moved here from Cali. Great food, great service. I judge Mexican restaurants by their enchiladas and tamales. Both are great. Margaritas are delicious.

Started with the queso. It's plain. We added taco meat...that's a $2 up charge. Still a little plain, so we asked for pico. That made the queso not just good, but great. Sadly, when we got the bill we found out the pico was $1.50 up charge. So...that's a little high, in my opinion. If you're gonna put out plain queso, then at least don't screw customers when they try to make it better. I got the brisket quesadillas dinner. Huge. Brisket was good. Tortilla was thicker than normal, but good. Rice...man, it was right up my alley. I was really happy. He got the barbacoa plate with charro beans. He was very happy too. He said barbacoa was authentic and tasty. Charro beans were good, cooked with bacon and sausage. Tortillas were homemade and good. He also liked the rice. The chips were thick, and likely homemade. We liked them, but just a heads up. Salsa is good, not too hot. Not runny, but not chunky either. House margaritas on a Saturday night were $3. They were decent. Especially at that price. We went back: Tried the brisket taquitos. A great choice! He got the gordita plate. He said the cactus was...different. He ate it all, but wouldn't get it again. He had a brisket one, which was his favorite. And a potato/chorizo, which he said was good. I tried a bistek dish that was in tomato sauce, the #13. It was ok. Meat was pretty tender, just a little fat. The tomato was a little too much for me because there wasn't any other flavor with it. The sliced potatoes were good though. S Back again: The sombrero ranchero- fajitas with chicken and beef and shrimp. For 3 ppl...yeah, that meant 4 or 5. We had 3 men eat it and still had leftovers. They liked all of it. Ordered Queso flameado which comes with tortillas. Got home and realized they gave me flour instead of corn which is what I ordered. Upon calling they asked me to bring back the food so they could replace the tortillas when the cheese would then be cold. The woman proceeds to tell me to bring the cheese back and they would warm it up, in lieu of remaking the order. With gas prices as high as they are it makes no sense to make two trips for one order that I paid for an ordered correctly. This is not the way to conduct business, they only want to "fix" the bare minimum instead of actually making the correct move. Not to mention taking food back into the kitchen in todays climate of Covid seems unsanitary or unhygienic at the very least. I will stick to Kikis Mexican restaurant who never gets my order wrong. read more

Amelia's is our best little secret for amazing and affordable Mexican dining. Saturday and Sunday brunch from 8-3 is fantastic. $10.00 Mimosa bucket or just a single mimosa for a $1.00 with great choice of juices or a $4.00 Bloody Mary is definitely a brunch favorite.
