I decided to try American Asian for takeout after seeing several mixed reviews about the place. What I like about this place is that they had a Dinner Special menu, while most place solely have a Lunch Special. From the Dinner Special menu, I ordered the Kung Pao and Szechuan Style Roast Pork (both $10.95). Each item comes with a choice of egg roll (pork, shrimp, or veg) and a side order. All this for $10.95 is a good deal. I got the Veg and Pork egg roll and for the sides, I got the hot and sour soup and another spring roll. The spring rolls were decent. They were a bit of the greasy end, but tolerable. The hot and sour soup, however, was terrible. There was nothing sour about it and it was incredibly thick. Above all, it was bland and absolutely no flavor. I highly suggest you choose a different side with your order. The Kung Pao beef was good. It had the usual peanuts and peppers, but also zucchini which I thought was an interesting addition. The Szechuan style roast pork was also enjoyable. It had a slight kick and lots of shredded carrots. I also got the Crispy Beef since I saw it was one of their popular dishes on Yelp. I have to say though, it was too sweet for me and not very crispy at all. One thing I do wish, is they would provide more rice. The meat to rice ratio is like 3:1. It's not a dealbreaker for me since I could always make more rice at home, but if I were to dine in, I would hate to have to pay extra for more rice. In the takeout bag, they also gave me two free almond cookies :) All in all, I would definitely order take out from here again considering the prices and that the food was actually pretty decent. Since moving to Catonsville a few years ago, we have not had a lot of luck with finding the perfect Chinese restaurant. One of our favorite dishes is shrimp fried rice and for some reason we have only found one place in Marriottsville that makes it the way we like it. Tonight, I think we found a new place to get food from a little closer to our home. We got an order of gyoza, crispy beef and shrimp fried rice. All dishes were very good and service could be done all online. My husband went to pick it up and everything was ready to go. Very nice staff and everything had a good flavor. We will be trying some more of their dishes soon!

Best Chinese Food Arbutus.. that is what everyone said so my husband and I tried it out and got hooked! I am a big fan of the steamed dumplings. I like to cut them in half and soak in the hoisin sauce before eating. I like the General Tso chicken, Hunan Chicken, and Sesame Chicken. I am a enjoy eating chicken! My husband usually gets the Shrimp fried rice and crab rangoon. Both delicious! They use large size shrimp and not those weird tiny shrimp. They also serve Sushi and Thai food. I ordered the Drunk Noodles one night but thought they were a little bland. Drunk noodles are usually pretty spicy so that was disappointing. Occasionally I have ordered an eel roll or something else cooked but I generally order from Sushi-Q if I want Sushi. The Sushi here is OK if you don't want to drive to Elkridge but we tend to stick to the Chinese Food. COVID PRECAUTIONS ABOUND! This is the most cautious restaurant I have seen/ They stopped doing delivery and closed down the dining room at the start of the pandemic so they are now CARRY OUT ONLY. They built a vestibule by the door with thick plexiglass like you see at a gas station in the cirty. They put the food in a bag through a little door. I applaud their efforts to remain open and stay safe during the pandemic.

We decided that we wanted to get Chinese to support. I did some research but there are not a ton of options in this area. All the other reviews said that it's very hit or miss and the consistency isn't great. We ordered some app favorites in Rangoon & egg roll. The Rangoon was heavy on the cheese and it didn't come with a dipping sauce. The egg roll had ok flavor but was a bit greasy. We also ordered steam pork dumplings. The meat inside was really well seasoned but the dough part was way too thick - it was like a Russian dumpling thickness. Then we split it down the middle and got one Chinese entree, General Tsaos, and one Thai entree of Pad Thai. The general was super bland and not very flavorful - the pad Thai was better but still pretty meh. When I was talking to my partner about how we would rate our meal, she was like I don't know a 3? And I that what I started thinking but then I was like, but also we would never choose to order from here again. It's just not worth the $62 we spent. So that's why it's 2/5. Everything was edible and fine, but that's pretty much it. Oh also we used DoorDash and it was lovely and they came pretty quickly.

New to the neighborhood and tried this place, so glad I did. The egg rolls are light and not laden with oil. Rice is fluffy and fresh. Had the Thai basil with meat. It was well seasoned and spicy. Sushi is made fresh. Staff are friendly and quick. Restaurant wasn't crowded.

We get delivery and the food is always delicious and fresh and the service is friendly. Last time I ordered the order got messed up and I didn't get the Garden roll I ordered, instead a spring roll was included. I really love the Garden roll because they are not fried. I called to let them know there was a mix up and they brought me the garden roll. I was so unexpecting this. read more

Great restaurant, I am a frequent customer and have never been dissapointed. The sizes of the dishes are huge, no exaggeration here, I can never finish my food in one sitting. It it's kinda off the beaten path if u don't know the area but don't let that fool you, always a pleasure. read more

It's mediocre at best,, but less than a half mile away and prices are not bad. My husband generally get the sushi, but i wouldn't touch the raw fish here with a 10 foot ball. The chinese food is typical, staff is friendly, and delivery is VERY quick! Sushi pieces are tiiiiiiiny, but the rest of the orders are huge and can be used for a couple of days worth of lunch depending on how many people are eating dinner! read more

Food is okay, but the service is terrible. Took an hour and a half for the food to be delivered. And the driver was rude when I refused to tip him more than $2. As he was walking away, he cussed me out and flipped me off. Then he laid on his horn and sped away. Don't waste your time with these rude, childish people. read more

I am warning you in advance I am writing this review in LOLcat... you are warned... O HAI I COMES TO UR RESTRANT WANTING OF NOMZ AND U HAZ THEM THE SUSHIZ I EATS AND THEY IZ NOMNOMNOM!!! I NOMMED IT ALL OKAY NOM NOM I PAY LITTL MUNNIEZ I ONLY WANTZ MORE I OUT OF NOMS :( Anyway... to translate I had the sashimi combo 12 peices of sashimi 3 tuna, 3 salmon, 3 red snapper, and 3 albacore (I believe), it comes with a good sized bowl of miso soup, sushi rice, and a Chinese donut... the presentation was exquisite and the wasabi had a nice strong wasabi flavor... the sushi was very fresh and I NOMMED it... it was really good:) I am excited to go back there and try the Thai and Chinese foods :) read more

This was the blandest "Thai" food I've ever had. The crab wontons were inedible, General Tso's tofu had no flavor, and the Pad Thai was heavy and greasy. Would not recommend. read more

This restaurant seems to have favorable reviews here on Yelp but my experience in no way match glowing reviews. The restaurant has non existing approach to decor. The menu is extensive and features Chinese, Thai, and Japanese cuisine. I like Thai noodle soups, and this is what I ordered. I never had worst soup. I looked and tasted worse than Ramen. All people in our party felt heavy after dinner and we got sick the next day. Awful! I am only thankful we didn't order sushi there, if we did we would be dead by now. Highly not recommended. There are better restaurants in Baltimore. read more

Tried this place since we were craving chinese food for dinner and we thought to give it a try since it is in the neighborhood. We ordered 4 entrees (Garlic chicken, Chicken chowmein, Thai Curry, and Sweet&Sour chicken) and soups. Out off everything that we ordered, only the soup and the other 2 orders was the favorite. The chowmein was bland and the Thai curry was just ok. A little disappointed and probably won't go back again since the folks aren't satisfied. Other than that, the staff are not too friendly and they sort of stare at you. I would give it a 4 atleast, but I don't think that their prices are worth the food taste. Also, we called for a pick up order and the person who was taking our orders seem like she's not that familiar with the menu (told us that we can get fried rice with the combination platter, but we got white rice instead.) read more

This place is a joke. What did they do...write thier own reviews??? HaHaHa! Bring a date!!! LOL. Crackheads. This is how it really goes down...first thing that hits you is the overwhelming smell of week old dead fish, wet socks and piss. But you are a sucker and read their reviews right??? So you have to try it. Service sucks. Friendlieness sucks. The place is a dump. You are left to thinking will I need a tetnus shot or die of food poisoning. Then the food arrives and you can't help but be overwhelmed again by the smell of death. I don't belive food can be more bland even it is just cooked in water. But who needs to taste anything when the food is so temperature hot necessary to kill all the living bacteria on it...your tastebuds will singe right off. Then all you have left to look forward to is the tasty dessert donut all the creative owners raved about in their self reviews while on dates with their wives or daughters. Wow!!! Cardboard, flour and sugar crystals!!! Yum! Impressive!!! Rest assured if I survive the night I wil NEVER be going back to this cochroach motel gourmet dining experience!!! Amazing place! was not expecting such good food at a place that showcases 3 different cuisines. Mongolian beef, green curry, and singapore noodle (all asked for extra spicy) were each delicious! definitely a must try and a jewel in Halethorpe. read more

Food is good, stick to carry out. The wife and I got terrible service while eating there. We had to ask for the sauces and noodles after being seated for 10 min. The waitress would not even crack a smile while serving us nor give us more than a one word reply. I want more for my money! To many other places to go in this town. read more

The only reason I'm giving two stars is because of the customer service. The girl who served us was horrible, completely rude and even rolled her eyes at me. I was impressed by American Asian! The price is right and, the food is good! The fried rice in particular was stand out to me (very flavorful), and the chicken and broccoli was a hit. The combination platters are the way to go for dinner as they come with a complimentary soup and egg roll for $9~$12 price point. Delivery is set at a flat 45-60 minute estimated arrival time so, make sure to order ahead if you're not picking up! read more

It is not the best Chinese/Sushi I've ever had, and each time we've ordered take out it takes about 40-50 minutes for them to deliver (we're not far from the establishment), but that may be because we always order at least some sushi and that might take more time? I tried a few of the Chinese and Thai dishes and they were adequate; the sushi is definitely better and it is fresh. It's probably the best Miso Soup I've ever had though! Firstly, the food here is excellent! We ate here today and had some of very reasonably priced large portions of Pad Thai and Tofu Lemongrass. We ate pretty late in the afternoon and the rice that accompanied the Tofu Lemongrass looked to have sat in a chafing dish since lunch- it was pretty inedible. But the tasty entrées and the wonderful service made me overlook that. Now while I don't have any real complaints I do have a suggestion: This restaurant has obviously spent a bit of money to put up a slick and exciting webpage. So I wasn't expecting but was kind of hoping that the restaurant itself would be the same way despite being in Halethorpe. Unfortunately the interior of this restaurant is as dull as they come for suburban strip mall Asian places: non-descript tubular steel booths and tables, bland light blue walls, bad art and (horror of horrors in my book) and inescapable television mounted on the wall and turned to face the entire restaurant. So like it or not I got to watch an afternoon Dr. Phil-type show on breast augmentation while I ate my Pad Thai. I would like to suggest that the restaurant owners hire a REAL restaurant interior designer to redo this place. Like it or not there are many people who want to dine in a beautiful place and to make the meal and outing an memorable experience and more than just bellying up to the trough. If proprietor spent a little money and slicked up their restaurant, ditched the TV and the Geritol commercial music they would have a line out the door everyday. read more

It was just $7 for a good sized bowl filled with mushrooms, tofu and herbs. The broth was fragrant and balanced. So comforting, especially served with the large chunks of tofu I opted for. Their hours can be limited, (closed on Tuesday and open until 8pm most days) otherwise I'd be eating here more frequently.

If you haven't tried the steamed Pork dumplings, ya need to. It's not gyoza, it's not a Chinese steam bun, it's a good, hearty, doughy dumpling with a seasoned Pork mixture nestled inside. If you love carbs, you'll love this. I literally get cravings for them. There are 6 to an order and sometimes I eat them for my meal. The chicken and vegetables, moo goo gai pan, miso soup, wonton soup, drunken noodles, lo mein are all standard and good.
