The driver quickly realized a specialized truck was needed, and another one arrived about 15 minutes later with a flatbed. The two drivers worked together with great communication to carefully lift my car off the rock without causing any damage. One driver even lay on the ground to check the underside of my car to make sure it was safe to drive. In the end, my car was fine, and the whole job cost only $163. But he was about 10-15 feet from the side of the road. Called AAA and was set up with a tow truck company coming to his rescue (or so I thought). FLT took the response and well from there it was awful. First, took over an hour to get to him. Then once the driver got there he saw my sons ford fiesta (not much bigger than a matchbox car) and told him that he needed to use a "special equipment?" to get him out and that he needed to pay $642.01 before he could assist. I immediately called AAA and had someone on the phone along with my son and AAA received the update directly from my son. They advised at that time they couldn't do anything but that he could submit the bill back to AAA and they would "consider" if they would reimburse him. I needed my son out and safe, so I told him to pay it because we didn't know any better. My son took pictures of where he was and how the driver did not need to do anything special. FLT took advantage of my son and his need for assistance. And had I known better, I would have told him to tell the driver "no thank you" and just called another company to assist. But since we belong to AAA I figured we needed to do what was being instructed. Thank god AAA was on the phone when all this was happening. My son sent all the documentation to them and they refunded him fully! We have learned a big lesson!! I hope to never need this tow company again.
