I have been going to American Brake for well over a decade and they won my vote again today. I took my car in to have something checked and while they were at it please check the brakes. They ran all the diagnostics, test drove it, and then called to say they weren't seeing anything of concern and I don't need brakes yet. The first time it happened was a year and a half ago. I took my Ford Fusion to ABS at 1310 Johnson Ferry Road, right across from Merchant's Walk, due to an unusual noise coming from the engine compartment. I was expecting big trouble. It turned out that the noise was actually coming from the protective undercarriage panel that had come loose and was dragging on the pavement. ABS fixed the problem and didn't charge me a cent. For me, this was delightful - . They could make made a big deal out of the problem and gotten away with charging me a bundle. I was impressed with their honesty. Then, three days ago my sister, who was on her way to visit from out of town, called me and mentioned that her air conditioner had quit cooling. It was a brutally hot day, and I made arrangements for her to go directly to ABS where I would meet her. The service tech said they would do a diagnostic, put a charge on it, check for leaks, etc. and the overall cost would be around $200. They said that fixed things about 95% of the time, but that wasn't the case this time; the AC was clogged and would require a much more expensive fix. We declined that option and told them we would pick it up unrepaired. They apologized for not being able to fix it within budget. Then, very much to my surprise, they said they would not charge us for the diagnostic work. I was shocked! Again, they could've charged her the $200, but they were kind enough to bend over backwards to exceed this customer's expectations. So, here we have a very honest and decent auto repair company that can be trusted to do the right thing! Certainly this is a find worthy of writing a quick recommendation. They work on all kinds of vehicles and do all kinds of repair work (despite the name), and I will not be taking my vehicles anywhere else. Ray H. read more

I came to them to have my brakes down after going to firestone who was trying to overprice me for what was needed. I saw the reviews and just moved to the area and thought I would give it a shot. When they called me to tell me what I needed and gave me a final price I said go ahead and do it. However, I am very disappointed when I went to pick up my car my bill was $170 more than what they told me over the phone. They looked at the bill and said well I'm not sure why You were quoted one thing but this is what we did so the invoice wouldn't have changed. Oh I purposely called around to see what pricing's were and very disappointed that they say one thing and charge another I would not recommend getting any services done here unless you have it written and signed the final price before they start doing the service. read more

My mother took her 528i BMW because the brakes were squeaking and computer showed new brakes needed in 1000 miles. She was told she needed new brake pads and needed front rotors. A few weeks later, she noticed rust coming from wheels and her car was shaking. So she took the car to a certified BMW mechanic and he found all parts were not BMW and BMW parts are painted so they do not rust. This company sold my mom non BMW certified parts. And the work was not right and the car continues to shake. The BMW mechanic felt bad for my mom so he called American Brake Company to explain the issue and what they did wrong. The employee of Joe .. cussed the BMW mechanic and hung up. My mom is enroute to go back .. the phone call was on speaker phone so that all could hear including my mother. And my mom is nervous about this .. I called Joe and he said she has warranty .. that maybe she hit a pot hole or got the rotors to open warm .. which I explained is not the case .. he could even check the mileage when she arrives. I asked him to take care of her and do the right thing .. says he would. If he does take of the issue I will update my review to reflect the same .. ##### UPDATE: yes met with Joe and the brake and rotor work was performed once again. After the re work was performed, the car no longer shakes and appears to perform normally now. I assume the pads and rotors were swapped out .. really not sure. But he took the time to correct the issue, hopefully Joe's customer service skills can be populated to all of his employees to share his same vision. read more

I saw my mother give him a very vague description and he figured out what was wrong with the car...which is impressive because I didn't understand what she said. Here's the situation: I have a 2005 Jaguar XJ8L. I wanted specific brake rotors and pads (ceramics) that none of the local shops can get. So I buy them online. I call up GTD, they say they can put the pads and rotors on for $75. It really is a basic job, even though it's a Jag, it was owned by Ford in 2005 and they shared parts. The job is no more difficult than a Ford Taurus, seriously. So I walk into the store and talk to a different guy; younger european guy with a ponytail. He has a real attitude, as if he was trying to intimidate me? I told him the guy on the phone offered $75, he says it's $160. I couldn't believe it, I told him Kauffman would do it for $75 (they were booked solid so I couldn't go there), he said "then why don't you take it there?!?!" In front of another customer! Apparently they don't need the business. If I was the owner, this ponytail guy would be fired. Took it to G&S Brake and Muffler on Lower Roswell, they did it for $60 in about 30 minutes. Highly recommend them and Kauffman in Coleman Village. Lesson of the story: If you have a nice car, ABS will jack up the prices for no reason. Dishonest and dirty. I guess they think the rich folks in East Cobb can be easily duped. I'm a young guy, I know cars; I shudder to think what they'd pull on my grandma or my mom or sister. Joe is a VERY honest and professional guy. I have never encountered this level of professionalism and honesty from car repair. Referred by my brother in law, I brought in my CLS 550 for diagnostics due to an engine light signal and based on his findings, he waived the diagnostic charges and recommended not to spend a hefty some on repairs as this will be short lived. He referred me to a Mercedes dealership for confirmation and he was spot on. A few months passed by and the under car shield/pan was hanging on the floor. I brought the car to his shop and it was fixed free of charge. I was blown away by his act of kindness. He has an awesome team and they have definitely gain the trust to be my #1 car report shop. I have always been leery of mechanics and not getting an honest opinion or being over charged. I was referred to Joe at American Brake a little over a year ago. He has been honest and upfront with my auto repairs as well as being reasonably priced. I refuse to take the family cars anywhere else. I have two teenagers driving and one having an older Jeep which can be very costly to maintain. He has done everything from a basic oil change to taking out a dash that the wires melted and rewired it works perfect now. Have been coming for roughly three years. Saw the rating so had to give a post. Joe is extremely honest, friendly and knowledgeable. Has been servicing our 5 series and trailblazer. One time took our BMW to dealer to get a part replaced that had been recalled. They also had numerous other issues they diagnosed that would have cost a couple thousand dollars. Brought it into Joe and he had the same diagnosis but recommended we could hold off on one of the costlier repairs and other repairs done for almost half the cost. Can always count on him! read more

I took my daughter's car in to get the brakes inspected because we were hearing noises. I expected to get the "you need new breaks", or "you need new rotors". However....I received a phone call from the manager and he told me all I needed was a brake fluid flush. I asked if I still needed to replace the pads and he said NO "unless you just want to waste money". THANK YOU FOR YOUR HONESTY! Got really screwed here today. First of all, the guy helping me was extremely rude and even laughed at me when I mentioned I replaced a minor part that apparently did not need to replaced. Reluctantly, I left the car there so they could run diagnostics to see why there was engine hesitation which was $85 to do. A little pricy but worth it at the time. After being ensured that no repairs would be done without a call to authorize them, I get a call an hour and a half later telling me it's fixed and the total is $225; JUST to clean a couple parts which I could have easily done myself. Now, I know that mechanics usually try to give you the run around, but this is just whole different level of wrong. I tried to reason with him saying he did not do what was agreed (WHICH is a breech of verbal contract**) but he wouldn't budge an inch. Do yourself a huge favor for you AND your wallet and keep looking for a trustworthy mechanic! read more

I recently took my 2001 Nissan pathfinder here to have the AC checked. I was helped by Joe who was extremely fast in fitting me in. It only took upwards of ten minutes for him to look at my car and figure out what the problem was and how it could be remedied. He was very pleasant and honest in explaining the details to me. He even went out of his way to find and order a part I would need that would be my cheapest option. I had a brand new AC in just two days. He was very fair in his pricing and my air has literally not worked this good since I got the car brand new. I will take my car back there with any future problems and will even be going for my regular oil changes. (I asked him to change my oil while I was there and even with high mileage and a car that takes more than the standard amount of quarts my price was still $30) Wonderful people and reasonable prices. Finally a mechanic who I trust. Oh, and the place is also clean ;) which is pretty great compared to a lot of car repair places I've had the displeasure of waiting around in. read more

I have been using American Brake Service for several years. I drive all the way from McDonough, GA to have this shop service all my vehicles - so you can imagine all the shops I pass on the way. As a female, it is always intimidating to patronize any auto repair shop. However, when you have an exceptional business person as Joe, it's hard to go anywhere else. They have always been quite fair and reasonable in pricing and never once attempted to sell me services I did not need. My most recent visit was 12/27/2016 (so this is quite a "recent" review). I called several other shops for comparable pricing, and I was not surprised that I was given price points well above what ABS offered. I ALWAYS feel comfortable driving off after receiving services from American Brake Service.
