I don't eat Donuts very often and most of the time I do, I end up disappointed. So I don't know where to start when looking for a new place to try. This time I decided to simply pick a Mom and Pop Shop to at least be benefiting a small local business. But I am so glad I decided to do that bc I just found my new favorite Donut shop. As for my experience, I was very impressed with the kind, attentive, and joy filled service I got. When I first walked in the owner yelled from the back to greet me, as I'm sure he had his hands tied up back there. But this was a great first impression. Just showing he cares, even before he can make his way to me. When he made his way up front he was very joyful and helpful. He even made me try a freshly made donut before I bought my half dozen. It literally melted in my mouth. He made a funny joke about how you don't need your dentures in to eat these donuts lol. He was right. These Donuts were very good, very fluffy, and had the right balance of everything. I'm glad I decided to stop somewhere near home today, so now this can be my go to place. Not just for donuts but for breakfast burritos too. I would gladly patronize this place purely for the wonderful service and to support this family's business. But I'll also be patronizing it because the donuts are awesome. Definitely a place worth trying out! read more

I've been going there off and on for the past five years. That old guy behind the counter finally pissed me off for the last time! I've given him the benefit of the doubt thinking he's just having a bad day but not anymore. He was sitting over by the liquor store when I walked in. A few seconds later he comes in behind me shaking his head like he's pissed? I thought "OH God here we go again " he starts cussing under his breath and tosses my donuts in a bag on the counter. Who is the owner here? It looks like you've been getting bad reviews about the older guy behind the counter for quite awhile... I came in because it's close to where I live and I was in a hurry. My business was clearly an inconvenience the moment I walked in and especially after I asked for some filled doughnuts. After that I told him he could just pick the rest because he was making me uncomfortable. He was cursing, making snide remarks... as long as he's there I won't be back... which is a bummer because I just tried one of the doughnuts and it is good... but not worth the exceptionally terrible customer service. read more

I've been here a several times because my kids like to stop here when we're in the area. We have always had a good experience, I don't t think the older man some negative comments have talked about is the owner and I'm sure I've met the owner on some occasion when visiting. I don't agree with some of the negative comments. I agree customer is essential, but I also think in some instances extra patience and understanding of a person is needed, as with disabled persons. Coffee isn't great. Gas stations have better coffee. Sugar/cream is not covered. Saw dust in the cups. Gross ! Donuts are ok but nothing great. My cake donut was stale, hard. The owner has radical religious tv screaming loud. That's a huge turn off. Do not force religions on customers. Should not be allowed in a secular business. The owner seems mega stressed out. Been a few times, he's never in a good mood. It's like I burden him because I want a donut. Instead of asking if I have smaller change, he gets very loud with sighs and gets a bit rude. I won't be going back. I rather go to king soopers and pay 60¢ for a fresh donut. The best donuts I've ever had. Period. And I've had a lot of donuts in my life. I no longer live in Colorado, but when I visit, I make sure to visit here to grab a donut (or 12)! We first had American Donuts at the First Bank on Wads and Alameda. Twice in the last year we visited the bank on a Saturday and they were offering complimentary coffee and donuts; apparently this is a regular deal. I grabbed an old fashion on the 1st visit and a a crumb cake on the 2nd visit. Both times the donuts were exceptional with a nice light crunch from the fryer. The teller told me where they get the donuts from and I had to get some. Previous reviews are on point. The gentleman working, I presume the owner, was generally very nice. I pointed at the crumb donut in the case and he asked "chocolate right?" I didn't realize he had glazed, chocolate and maple crumb; appearance wise it wasn't that obvious. So, I was a little confused and he very dryly said "the one you pointed at". Ok...maybe a little snide but I can get over it. Cake donuts, crumb, old fashion....all awesome. I have had better raised glaze. Apple fritters were good, but as is the case with all the donuts, on the small side. A dozen donuts for about $7.50 and the fritters were $1.20 ea. A solid choice for donuts if I am in the area. Also, don't forget they are closed on Sundays. read more

Pregnant lady approved!! If you're debating, the answer is yes! I'm 8 months pregnant with twins, and for the entire last 8 months I've been in search of the perfect donut! True Story. I discovered this place because I'd heard they supply the donuts on Saturday mornings to the big 1st bank on Colfax. I knew I loved those donuts so thought I'd give it a try. Yes, it is true, the donuts here are absolutely incredible. I have been here several times and it seems to be a one-old-man operation here. If it weren't for my most recent visit I would give this place 5 stars. But recently when I went here there weren't any donuts on display and the old man angrily called out "we're out". When I asked how long for some more he responded 5-10 minutes. He walked to the back and he was upset and cursing. So I waited in my car for 10 minutes and when I go to open the door to see if he has anymore ready, I find out he locked the door. He left the open sign on, but just locked the door. It is also true that this guy has always been very friendly every other time I've been here and I must've caught him on a bad day. So, while I will continue to get donuts here I am now weary if he'll have any available. I don't think this guy knows how good his product is comparatively and that he could likely charge more, hire more staff, and stay open later than 1pm. read more

I stopped in here one morning after work. There's a small display case with different kinds of donuts inside. The gentleman who helped me is soft spoken as mentioned before. I had to ask him to repeat himself, but he was very nice. I enjoyed my donuts and they had a slight crunch to them, which I liked. This place definitely needs a facelift and I was disappointed that there was no ice coffee. The owner was very nice and the prices are good. I got three donuts for under $3 (.86 each). I'm hoping the owner is reading this. I have patronized this small business for many years. The gentleman that works the counter is bad for this business. I have witnessed his agitation in making breakfast burritos, to the point customers change their minds. A customer was before me and we both waited while the gentlemen took his time in the back with his friend. About 5 minutes later he came walking to the front swearing. The customer in front of me said if that's how you treat your customers forget it. I don't need the donuts and left, very upset! So it was now my turn. I asked for a breakfast burrito and he grumbled to me the length of time it will take to make it. The gentleman's attitude clearly stunk! I told him you're not the owner, and you are losing customers and it's bad business. I tried calling the business to speak and complain personally to the owner of what's going on. The gentleman screens my calls with caller ID and doesn't answer now. This business makes good donuts but because of that worker- this is a negative review. I have read other reviews in the last year- service is down! And my Yelp review is definitely not positive! read more

Delicious! It's so funny because the other reviews are dead on in regards to the shop set up and the religious television show playing lol! But what matters most is what matters most and the donuts are awesome. I had the glazed devils chocolate cake donut, the cinnamon roll and the maple nut cake donut. My only complaint about this place is the hours. It is only open until 1:30 and is closed on Sundays the one day that most people want to buy donuts. I just read through the reviews and it seems like the owner must be bipolar. Or maybe there are two employees here. I came in this morning to pick up some donuts for work and I asked for a dozen donuts. The guy asked if I wanted him to pick out the dozen and I said no I'll pick them out myself. He didn't seem to like that so he was like "Of course you will" and grumbling to himself. Then another customer walked in and the donut guy said "I'll be with you when I can, this is going to take a few minutes." And I wasn't even taking a long time. I was picking out donuts as fast as he could put it in the box, which is not very fast. He continued being rude and I remained nice and cheerful the entire time, but I definitely wanted to call him out on his rude behavior. I like the donuts here and it's conveniently located close to work, but I'm not sure if I want to return. This was a really weird experience.
