Disappointed. Our waiter was personality and service = D- . He scoffed at us ordering entrees for our young children to share, so we wound up ordering way too much food (no kids menu is ok with us but heads up if you take kids). The coconut mezcal cocktail is disgusting. So was the other cocktail I finally had. (We were left over 30 minutes without the waiter coming back to check on drinks...waiters: don't ever leave parents with children without drinks in a nice restaurant). Our food arrived after a long time and my wife had no wine to enjoy with it despite asking for our waiter three times. The duck, ordered medium rare, was basically raw. I'm not an ack local, or 'old money', or an octogenarian and I completely enjoyed American Seasons this past weekend. The food was inventive and tasty, the menu is divided into regions of the country based on ingredients and preparation. I had a salad of local mixed greens with goat cheese and figs that I would have happily continued eating as an entree. For dinner we tried a spinach and leek tarte, pork belly and pork cheek, salmon and crawfish and more. Appetizers ranged from $10-$14 and entrees were in the $25-$30 range. It's not cheap but, honestly, no one should be shocked at numbers like that. Food of that caliber is more expensive than chili's. When you factor in that it all must be ferried to an island it the prices are absolutely realistic and not unlike what you see at any similar restaurant in Boston. As for service -- our waitress was not a 'sorority type' nor m.i.a. She was attentive and apologetic when a post-meal coffee took several minutes to arrive. We got a last minute reservation on a Friday night and didn't wait a single minute for the table upon arrival. I fully endorse American Seasons -- there are a lot of things about Nantucket that are pretentious and overpriced but this isn't one of them. read more

American Seasons is by far our favorite restaurant in Nantucket! The food is just outstanding. Highlight dishes are the Roasted sea scallops, Chicken Liver-Foie Gras Parfait, Honey Roasted Halibut, Salmon Filet, and Sticky Toffee Pudding for dessert. This restaurant has so much charm, close proximity to downtown, and love the overall vibe there. We love it here and is definitely a must-do when we're on the island. Five Stars! read more

The food was excellent but we were overcharged by $140.00 (they put someone else's bottle of wine on our bill it seems). When we noted this they causally said "oh, that's where it went" as if they knew they had charged someone else but didn't take the time to figure out who. The "we could care less that we overcharged you" attitude wasn't a great way to end a meal. read more

American Seasons was the splurge dinner on a recent Thanksgiving trip to Nantucket, and I had a mixed reaction to the decidedly expensive meal. The service was not up to snuff for such an expensive place, but the food was quite wonderful and the wine service was amazing. The salmon and duck dinners were fantastic, with chanterelle mushrooms and foie gras sausage sides, respectively. The pairings were imaginative and delicate. I have written before about portion control, and I appreciated the size of the plates, which allow for an appetizer and dessert. And, what terrific desserts: sweet softened cheeses, cranberry bread pudding, and an incredible chocolate cinnamon cheesecake! A high point was the Rafanelli Cabernet, which is rarely available. That is part of the value of the place: the rare wine and special pairings of food. It is incredibly expensive, though, and I did feel abandoned by the wait staff, at times, at the table. It wouldn't kill anyone to give us a second piece of pre-dinner bread, would it? And, we likely would have ordered a second bottle of wine, if we could have tracked her down. Given the price, I am sort of glad that we couldn't, though. Anyway, American Seasons was a good experience, tempered slightly by expense and with service you'd expect at a much lesser place. Most of the time, no matter how good the food, service will correlate to my review... bad service, bad review. But for the first time, a place had food so freakin' out of this world good, I could care less about the waitress that took forever. Maybe we got lucky and ordered everything right but even the salmon, which I NEVER order unless it's sushi, was to die for. (Something about the description made me feel like I should order it). This is a neighborhood restaurant with a tiny bar scene and nice ambiance, a little too dark though. The night we went it was crowded but we had a great table and there was a lively scene. It's hard to be in Nantucket and not run into someone you know, especially in nice restaurants. We ordered many small plates, grits, fried green tomatoes (very good), seasonal streamed vegetables in a butter sauce (the peas were outstanding), and a few other small plates. We also shared the fried lobster dish. (It was the most expensive thing we ordered, and reminded me that lobster should be eaten in its purest form and not fried.) They were attentive to my allergy but I got the feeling I annoyed my waitress by reminding her a few times when something looked suspicious to me. I would give this four stars if I felt we had better service. Our beverages were not refilled upon request and she seemed a little hurried with an attitude. We understand the bar (6 seats) is the place to go and chat with the very popular bartenders when you don't want an elaborate meal, but just small plates. Overall, American Seasons is a very fine meal, nice atmosphere, and an interesting menu. There is something for the vegetarian, meat and sea food lovers! I would return but probably to sit at the bar and enjoy the local chatter! read more

My darling boyfriend was able to get us a last minute rsvp here on a Thursday night. I knew at first glance of the menu, I wasn't head over heels. Our waitress spoke to us like we were children. Our expresso martini's were awful. And the food was nothing to rave about,,, at all. I ordered two apps and wasn't really pleased with either.... This restaurant charged me $350 for a "no show" reservation. I cancelled my reservation with ample time according to their policies. They have repeatedly told me they would reimburse me and still have not. Not only is it extremely frustrating that they charged me to begin with, but not reimbursing me in a timely manner is completely unacceptable. read more

I was surprised to see that this restaurant is only a 3 1/2! Before my friends and I decided to go here, we were looking at the menu for Restaurant Week and this one looked the best. We got there by 6:30 (with a reservation) and we were the first and only ones there for a good 15 minutes. People started filing in once we got our appetizers. The service was very good. We had a young girl who gave us bread and water and then our server took care of the meals. Both very nice. To start off we got the Acai and Cucumber mojito, the Blood Orange Margarita and the Absinthe Cola. All very flavorful drinks. Since we ordered the prix fix meal from the Restaurant week, we all got to choose an appetizer, entree and dessert. We chose the hush puppies and I can't remember the name of the other one but it had a crispy egg and some sort of meat with it. Both were very good, but my friend and I were wondering about why our 'fried shrimp' dish was called hush puppies. I guess it was a spin on hush puppies? Very peculiar... We then got our entrees which were 2 red fish and 1 mixed grain risotto. Both were extremely delicious and had so much flavor. The fried ramps in the risotto were exquisite. The crispiness of the red fish was just the right amount. And to finish our meals, we all ordered the chocolate tart. Yummy! The banana coffee ice cream didn't taste so much like banana (that's ok because I'm not a huge banana fan anyways) but the almost 'Snicker' like tart was pretty darn good! We got the check and realized we may have been over priced a little. We got the $45 prix fix meal plus one drink that cost $14 and that adds up to $59...our bill came to $64, all even...a little odd there. I mean I won't cry over 5 extra dollars but something was probably added in there that we didn't know of. Not sure..Otherwise, the food we got was all very delicious and we went home with a full stomach! read more

One of the top 5 best meals I have ever had. Seriously. Had a reservation for 7pm on a Saturday in the summer. We were brought to our table promptly. The atmosphere of the restaurant was very interesting (in a good way). Like many places in Nantucket, it felt historic and modern at the same time. We had really good service. The server was attentive and informative. We had a lot of questions about the menu and he answered them all honestly and helped us make decisions. Everything looked good, so we needed help! Appetizer: the gnocchi. Oh my goodness it was delicious. I would have ordered a double serving and had it for dinner, but I was too excited for my meal. Dinner: the salmon. It was cooked to perfection. It was crispy on top and moist below. The sauce had a curry flavor without being too spicy and the vegetables that came with it were so tasty. The special entree that night was tuna served rare with an eggplant purée. It was spectacular. The sauce was creamy/ buttery and went well over the greens it was served with. Dessert: lemon and blackberry cheesecake. The floors went well together and it was played with a toasted marshmallow that added comforting flavor to the dish. I would go back in a heartbeat. The meal was rather expensive, but it was oh so worth it. read more

On a five day visit to Nantucket, we had dinner twice at American Seasons, enjoying the Salmon and Veal Canneloni. The beet salad was also very good. By Nantucket standards the prices were less than at many competing upscale restaurants and the service was professional. Tables were sufficiently well spaced so that conversation was easy. read more

Had a very hard time to get anyone to answer the phone at different times during the day to make a reservation. Reluctantly I accepted a table on the outside terrace. Very disappointed. The setting is very bare, no ambiance and the chairs EXTREMELY uncomfortable. Food was average, nothing to rave about and for that together with the selection and creativity I thought it was expensive. I do not expect a laundry list of items on the menu, but found it to be quite limited with seven main courses. No Chef's special. The menu seems particularly limited when you have to read the menu over and over again to try and find something "interesting". From just reading the menu not one plate really got my juices going. Menu poorly written. Difficult to imagine what you are going to savor as each plate description just runs down a list of ingredients. Service was inattentive. Altogether a very disappointing experience. read more

We have been coming here for the last three summers. Tonight was a let down with service and food. Service was slow and the food was under-whelming. It lacked some of the wow presentation from years past and my salmon was over cooked. Each year I forget that they do not have AC and that it is very hot and uncomfortable to sit and relax during the meal. I think American Seasons has run its course for us and we will find a new annual favorite. read more

The charcuterie plate. CHAR-CU-TE-RIE....every chef who is passioned about this will be my friend forever. American Seasons is serving an award winning plate with little pieces of wonder - boudin noir, smoked sausages, head cheese, salami, pastrami, prosciutto - at least as good as Bar Boulud's in NYC. I also tried their sea scallops and their burrata - all very good. Their roasted duck was fantastic and went well with a Pinot Noir from Santa Barbara. The vibe is great at American Seasons. The place is candle lit at night, romantic, away from the noisy central Nantucket. All American wine list with many many good values. Highly recommended. 4 for food, 3 for service. Two nights ago some friends and I had a reservation at American Seasons for 8:30. We arrived at 8:40 and were told our table wasn't ready. So we waited until 9 and finally got our table. But then we all looked really young and I suppose not worthy of top customer care. We weren't too bothered. I ordered a lavender martini and was brought a champagnetini, which tasted all too much like limoncello. Fortunately when I corrected the waitress, she brought me my proper order and it was delicious, delicately hued with a spring of lavender floating on top. We all ordered different starters so I got to try, the calamari (this was the special), the cornmeal crusted fried oysters with avocado and pickled onion (aslo excellent), the tomato, watermelon, and burrata salad (somewhat dissappointing, the burrata was too firm except for a tiny dab of full creaminess at the center, not at all subtle or well infused), and the country pate (pate was nothing exceptional but the accompanying crispy poached egg was delightful). For the main course I ordered the pork loin and asian BBQ pork cheek . The cheek was soft but very fatty (as to be expected) and the loin was overdone. The ginger/carrot purée was the savior of the dish, which masked the blandness of the meat itself. Two friends ordered the roasted eggplant, ricotta, and swish cheese tart which was well proportioned and tasted fresh out of a parisian boulangerie (of course in a boulangerie it would be an 8th the price). The last friend ordered the potato wrapped tuna with chick pea purée, roasted fennel and oranges, and shrimp vinaigrette. Honestly, I'm not a huge fan of the tuna-makeover, whereby the tuna medallion is treated like a fillet mignon. Pairing tuna with potato focuses too much on the fatty heartiness of the fish, and pays no respects to its capacity for delicate lightness. As for desert, the 4 of us split a mint julep ice cream sandwich (the ice cream was very minty and delicate but the cake was a little flavorless, or perhaps the mint simply overpowered the chocolate) and a sweet and salty "smores" on chocolate pretzel graham crust, malted milk ice cream and marshmallow (The chocolate pretzel part was more like dense chocolate mousse which was fine but very heavy. the ice cream was the best part, very salty and sweet at once) All in all not a bad meal but for a whopping $250 for 4 people, I may have to sit next time out. read more

We had dinner here on a Sunday night. We were a party of 8 people. Reservation was for 8:30 pm and we were seated at 9:00 pm. The waitress was inattentive. She made a mess of our appetizer order (forgot to bring one appetizer) and did not come back to check to see if everything was ok (it was not, one salad was missing a key ingredient). Our main courses were unevenly prepared (duck was served well done versus medium rare). Again, the waitress was nowhere to be found and did not check to see if everything was ok. Appetizers are in the $20 range and main courses are in the $40 - $50 range so we would expect high quality food that is properly prepared and served attentively. We were disappointed. read more

Fabulous concept - terrible execution The atmosphere could be so lovely with the pretty candlelit dining room and the vintage game tables. However, the tables are crammed together so tightly that it appears the owners are trying to simply make as much money as they can off the place without a thought to patrons comfort. The menu is fabulous but on the evening we dined our server didn't seem the slightest bit interested in explaining the esoteric dishes and was harried and not terribly personable. This was during off season so one can only wonder what it's like in high season. The dishes were delicious - especially enjoyed the butternut squash polenta and a fabulous root beer float for dessert. Wanted so much for this to be an amazing experience but the crammed dining room and harried service was such a downer. read more

I've been here twice. Both times I walked out with the following thoughts: -Damn, that was one of the best tasting and most ingenious meals I've had in a long time. -Damn, that was expensive. -Damn, I need to walk off this food before I go to the BOX! We recently paid quite a bit to have their "fixed price" holiday stroll menu. The food came out with brilliant presentation. The portions were just right so that you had enough room to enjoy some drinks and finish dessert without feeling too full. The flavors and textures they combined on their dishes were really, really good. Of course we were a bit floored by the bill, but it didn't take away from the meal. Oh, and the service was fine. No different than what we've had at other big-name places like Via Matta and Radius. The somelier recommended a bunch of wines, almost all of which were over $200. I thought that was pretty funny. I guess it was because we were a bit dressed up. Other than that, I thought the service was fine and did not detract from the overall dining experience. read more

The ambiance is outstanding! The service is very good and the food is good, but not comparable to other restaurants on island in this price range. For a party of three with only two beers, our bill was over $200- inclusive of 3 appetizers and 3 entrees plus one dessert. The dessert (although $12) was incredible and our favorite part of the meal. Very surprised that they served beer in a can- in all my travels worldwide- I have never seen beer served in a can at a restaurant. Anyways, not on the A plus list, but will return someday. Buyer beware. They scam you with the 'no show reservation' even when you cancel well beyond the 24 hours. They charged me the $100 before we even missed the reservation time even though we had already cancelled appropriately. The woman we dealt with was incredibly rude. No one deserves to deal with being treated like that and from reading the reviews it's clear they make a practice of unethically charging their customers. read more

Best steak I have had on island in the past few months. Really high quality cut and cooked perfectly. Great atmosphere both inside and out. Only downside- the Menu is pretty small and if aren't really into seafood or are a at all a picky eater, you might have trouble finding things you like (the few starters include seafood paté, chicken liver, scallops, crab dressed with mint and cilantro). Even the more conventional dishes are prepared in somewhat unconventional ways (ie meat served over purée of apple and dates, coated in hazelnut, served with mint infused pistachio pesto). I suppose that could be a plus or minus depending on your palate. Definitely more on the expensive side but the quality justifies it. Definitely one of the most gourmet restaurants on island. read more

I was nervous about the wine list based on other reviews, but we ordered a $42 bottle of Sauvignon Blanc which was still quite nice. The food was good, but not worth $30+ per entree. Appetizers were small. The inside restaurant can be very noisy, so the outdoor patio is a better choice if want conversation. read more

This is my go to restaurant for a delicious meal with my husband or with friends. I have food sensitivities and they are always willing to accommodate and are careful to make sure I am safe in what I choose. Tonight there were four of us and again the meal did not disappoint. I had the beet salad to start which was perfectly sized, just enough goat cheese and very fresh. We had an intermezzo tasting from the chef of the Daurade Filet which I will certainly have as an entree next time. For my main course I enjoyed the pork shoulder. It was succulent and had a hint of maple on a bed of braised cabbage. There was not a bite left on my plate. At Dessert we ordered all 4 offerings and everyone shared and tasted. Place was dirty! Two rounds of glasses had lipstick, fingerprints, and smear marks which we had to ask to change out. Tables were on top of each other during COVID outbreak and all around non compliant with the rules despite every other restaurant on the island being super careful. When I asked to be moved further away from other tables who were also uncomfortable the manager told us his wife works for the health department so he doesn't need to comply. My family comes here every summer when we visit the island and it exceeds our expectations every time. Every thing is extremely fresh and perfectly seasoned. Everything on the menu is amazing, you cannot go wrong. The service is incredible. One of the best, if not the best, on Nantucket. read more
