To our surprise, our experience and meal was so satisfying and delicious. A truly great meal is made with care from procuring, storing and then cooking ingredients. We visit Nantucket every summer and make a point of coming to American Seasons but were shocked at the inept service we received during our dinner this past Saturday night. My husband ordered the beef tenderloin and the waitress even asked him directly how he wanted it done and he said "medium." Someone else delivered our dinners and he was given the salmon. We told the person the order was incorrect so she ran off to tell our server, who comes back and asks accusingly, "WAIT, you ordered the BEEF? I swear you said salmon," to which we assured her he did not. I had ordered the beef as well and my husband said, "No, I said I wanted the beef too, same one as her," to which the waitress responded with, "Oh, see - when you said 'same one' I thought you said 'salmon.'" They quickly whisked away the uneaten salmon and she apologized rather unenthusiastically so my husband mentioned that she had even asked how he wanted his meat cooked to which she replied, "I ALWAYS ask the temperature on salmon" and huffed off. We basically ate separately, as my husband waited for the correct order. Usually when mistakes like that have happened for us in the past, the restaurant is gracious in rectifying the situation and will offer to discount a portion of our meal but we received none of that treatment here! This place has deep roots for me so to judge this place (under new ownership) with objectivity is challenging. I truly believe that if you are new to American Seasons, it is likely you will enjoy the food. It was well prepared and the service was attentive and prompt. The menu is very "Nantucket" and should satisfy a majority of the diners on the island. Nothing overly adventurous but enough flair on the usual items (beef, chicken, seafood) that many will appreciate. For me, I thought the food was good but uninspiring. So many of the restaurants on Nantucket do the same thing. I miss the old American Seasons but I fully appreciate the new owner/chef's direction and attempt to differ the restaurant from its former life. Wow, Wow, Wow. Incredible food and one of the best wine list's I've ever seen. Vegetables are locally sourced from 8 local Nantucket Island farms. For entrees, I had the fluke, my wife had four appetizers. Fantastic. The wine list is incredible. All domestic offerings - at least 500 wines. Great variety and some real cults - Bryant Family, deep list of Araujo, Peter Michael, etc. We started with a glass of Schramsberg Rose -- why don't more restaurants offer Schramsberg -America's best "Champagne" - by the glass? After the bubbles, We ordered a limited production (500 cases produced) 2010 Drinkward Peschon Cabernet Sauvignon., Young, drinkable and brilliant. Service was absolutely perfect. This is everything Nantucket dining should be. Rustic and relaxed and overflowing with charm. The food is exquisite, and each bite is as gorgeous as the presentation. I'd happily recommend a dish, but anything you order is sure to please. I will say, however, that I've never had better salmon--crisp, yet tender. The staff is excellent and knowledgable. The wine!!! If you love a big beefy red as much as I do, you must try the Sinister Hand blend. And whatever you do, don't pass up the desert!! You'll want one of everything and you should! read more

I absolutely love this place. Super high end (the service and food) but not the attitude or ambiance. Very relaxed and inviting. They also offer a kids' menu which I love (house made paste or chicken). In the early hours people tend to bring their young kids - which is great - to be able to come to a great restaurant with your family. Their desserts are SO GOOD. And you've got to try their shirley temple (with house made pomegranate grenadine). read more

Take a pass on American Seasons - this year there are new owners and it is not up to the level of all the other fine restaurants on the island. Service is poor. Our reservation was for 8:15 and we were seated promptly. At 9:15 our server came and asked how we were doing and we had not even gotten our pate appetizer. Until 9:30 we had only wine. No managers to be found. No apologies. Wine list is more expensive than the other restaurants. I called the manager the next day to provide Feedback - all he said was that they didn't have enough help. He said the owner would call the next day to apologize and discuss and, to add insult to injury, they never even called us! We eat at all the world-class restaurants on the island and won't be back to this substandard one. They won't last if they don't step up their game. read more

I went to American Seasons during the Christmas Stroll for a prix fixe four course meal. It was expensive and disappointing. The first course was the amuse bouche. I thought that was odd and kind of cheap for a $95 meal. The appetizer was agnolotti and was good but not great. The main was cannelloni which was stiff like it had been prepared hours before. I removed the stuffing and ate that and left the shell. Portions were small. Dessert was a trio sampler that was good. Very disappointing and overpriced. read more

This is my wife's favorite spot on the island. We are from Napa and self proclaimed foodies. In our opinion, American Seasons is an exceptional place to dine! The service is impeccable, wine selection was a great, the portions are a bit small but the flavors more than make up for it. I personally like the eclectic decor and location just outside of downtown. It's a noise little spot but that's part of the charm. The only thing is that it's a bit pricey, but it's worth every dime. Best spot on the island. Recommend for anniversary or special night out. read more

Solid 4 star and a staple restaurant when I am on island. Currently featuring the "pig ear" appetiser, which consists of deep fried pig ear, cut into shoe string fries. How good is it? I wanted to get one for desert (and then was pissed I didn't order one to go for breakfast the next day - that good!) It can be a bit loud inside, but you are spaced out enough from your other fellow patrons as to not hear what they are talking about. We elected to have several appetisers this time and only one main dish (the salmon which was cooked perfectly). Went as part of a group of 12 people, and had a great meal. I went with a traditional fluke for my entree, and for an appetizer a shrimp and pork jowl dish. The only disappointment was that the pork jowls were virtually nonexistent in the dish. We came here last night and I thought the food was OK. I had the octopus for appetizers and pig confit for my entree and they were good but nothing spectacular. One of my friends ordered the risotto and she had to send it back because it was inedible. They were over salted and undercooked. The risotto rice was still crunchy. She ended up exchanging it with the sirloin steak which she asked to be cooked medium rare but the steak came really rare. At that point, she didn't want to send back her food again. I ordered the peach bread pudding for dessert and it was just OK. The place was kind of stuffy and they ended up having to open up the window. We thought that they would have comped us for the bad risotto but they still charged us for the risotto not the steak. Well at least the risotto was cheaper than the steak. The service was pretty good. Our waitress was definitely friendly and accommodating. Overall, our experience here was just OK. read more

I've been to American Seasons a number of times and I've always really enjoyed it, but it seems to me that since the last time I went (maybe a year ago) the quality of the food has gone downhill. Now, I love the concept - different areas of the country are represented by both appetizers and entrees and that's pretty cool, but the food is as noted by the 2 stars, 'Meh, I've experienced better." I'm going to break my review down into sections. 1. Service - it was ok. Not bad, but not super professional and not super attentive which at the high prices charged it should be much better. However, mad props to helping a lactard out and making sure there was no dairy in my dish. 2. Wine - really big wine list with about 5 nicely priced bottles strewn throughout. My table and I wound up with the Ca Del Sol Sangiovese for $35 - great deal and nice drinking wine. No complaints. 3. Food - has the menu shrunk? Maybe I'm imagining things, it's been known to happen in the past. I did have a pre-dinner cocktail before going to dinner. I had the roasted duck with quinoa (ordered sans butter) - it was decent. The duck was a bit on the dry/chewy side and a bit under seasoned. I was psyched that my dish came with quinoa but that too was dry and under seasoned. I blame part of this on the fact that I ordered my dish dairy free so I added some olive oil to my dish - much better but still not amazing. My parents ordered 4 apps to share: special soft shell crab (too much breading), salmon terrine (they liked this one), chicken fried chicken livers (waaay too much breading which unfortunately overwhelmed the liver....bummer) and meatloaf and foie gras "sandwich" (also a god one - nice combo of flavors). It seems to me that frying food gives this chef a hard on. To each his own, don't let me take that away from anyone, it was just too much breaded and fried food for an upscale restaurant. Sadly I don't think I'll want to go back to American Seasons with so many other great restaurants on the island and limited time to visit them. read more

Best meal we had on island - and the cocktails were excellent as well. We were seated at a lovely table in the middle of the main dining room, and the setting was extremely charming. The staff members were very professional, which was a nice change from some of the other restaurants on island where the service is slow and you get whiffs of attitude. The menu is seasonal and I don't think there is a wrong choice. We will definitely be back! read more

I agree with a lot of the other reviews here - charcuterie plate is excellent, and the dishes are varied, imaginative, and flavorful. The venison entree on my last visit was so tender and delicious, and I often find myself trying new things here that I have never had before, just because I know it will all taste good. However, every time I have eaten here I have walked out saying, "wow, what a great meal", but also "wow, that was really expensive". I have never personally had bad service here, but I can see where if I did I might think AS was overrated. read more

Great atmosphere and people. Our waiter was very talkative and had some great recommendations for future dining choices. He was also very knowledgeable about the menu and could describe the choices in detail. I had the leek soup for an appetizer that was presented by giving you the bowl with the apples, cake, blue cheese and then pouring the soup in in front of you. I then had the braised beef cheek which was delectable and fall off the bone quality. Desert menu looked great but we were so full there was no need. A great night out. It is unimaginable on how this place gets anything less the a 5 star review. this place is spectacular. on of the best places to eat on the island if not THE best. disregard the negative reviews on this listing. they either don't like great food or have an agenda. To not enjoy a dinner here would be a huge mistake. i have absolutely no affiliation with this place what so ever. I am merely pointing out how amazing this place is one of the very best i have ever dined in. To say this is not a great dining experience is criminal. the Octopus was cooked to perfection the designer drinks were excellent the swordfish was fresh and cooked in a delicious accompaniments of pork belly that was so savory and delicious. yes it is pricey a bit but not really when you think of the quality of the dinning experience you get. Recently we had a family reunion on our favorite island, Nantucket. One of the highlights was celebrating all the milestones we missed last year at our favorite restaurant, American Seasons. From the new fresh, hip look to outstanding service from a very well trained staff , to appetizers, meals and desserts that made us want to come back for more ! Half of the table had the halibut and the other half had the slow roast pork shoulder. They were both outstanding! For dessert we had to have one of each and they arrived with a candle on each as we sang Happy Bday to everyone at the table several times to make up for a tough year. The staff was beyond delight as they participated with our fun. Chef and owner Neil was attentive to details and you could tell that each dish was prepared with thought and perfection. What a winning combination and a treat to see him at the end of our meal. Can't wait to come back ! read more

By far and away my favorite restaurant - my one complaint is it's on an island an hour drive and an hour boat ride from Boston; however, anytime I plan on making the trip to Nantucket, my first move is to make reservations for American Seasons. If you really want an experience, DON'T order an entree, order a combination of 3-4 appetizers or sides and you won't be let down. read more

Five. stars. FIVE! Loved it here!!! The champagnetini (vodka, champagne, and fresh lemon) was great, the scallop appetizer was amazing, and my salmon dinner was out of this world. The best salmon I have EVER had. I also had the lemon curd dessert. I think this is an absolute must try if you visit Nantucket. Visited Nantucket for vacation late summer 2014 and had the pleasure of visiting this place. The decor and service were great, and so was the food. I had the Halibut which was the best dish I had on the island, and my husband had a steak which he was also impressed with. Wine selection was good. Enjoyed this cozy gem our first night on Nantucket. The food was wonderful. We had the salmon and pork and although we were full, we split dessert. It was amazing. Gabrielle mixes a great craft cocktail. They are pricey, but good (and she uses the oversized ice cube, so that it's not immediately watered down). On a cool evening, the patio was empty but would offer seating options on a busy night. We noticed that most folks had made a reservation, but we walked in and took a seat in the bar and truly enjoyed the experience. read more

Seriously disappointed. We have been eating at this restaurant every Thanksgiving weekend for the last five years. This year was just disappointing for a number of reasons. After making reservations one week in advance, they sat us next to the waiter station with a large ice bucket next to my seat. So much for loyal guests. The bar did not have Southern comfort because they said it was the end of the year. The menu was very limited. We wanted a salad but the only thing available was an $18 Artichoke hearts plate. Really? We chose the short rib entrée which turned out to be a 1 x 2" piece of meat on some purée for $38. Really? If you want to spend a lot of money on a little food and leave hungry in a noisy dining room, this is the place to go. Check out other options on the island that appreciate your business and provide a decent dining experience. read more

Ate here in October, but since it's getting some bad reviews, I thought I would give American Seasons a shout-out. The place is romantic and so pretty inside. Very dark, but in a good way. In the fall, it had a laid-back feeling, even though it's a high-end place. Not stuffy at all. Not sure it would be like that in the summer, but I will definitely be back when I go in July. The food was great and the service very nice. We found the wine lists on Nantucket extremely expensive, but to be expected...if you just get wines by the glass, it's not too bad price-wise. read more

This review would have been 4stars if it was just for the food. Unfortunately dining out is not just the food it is the experience. We were seated for our reservations and after that not a single contact was made for 40 minutes. Finally we asked for our waitress. She immediately came over and very cooly asked if she could take our drink order. YES! Another 20 minutes and we got our drinks. The waitress was totally disconnected from us the whole evening. We ordered a bottle of wine before our main meal arrived but by the last bite it still had not appeared- we overhead the sommelier saying that we were 3rd in line, perhaps if the bottle we ordered was $720 and not $72, things might have been different! read more
