They need to work on customer service. They gave me a 4 hour window for service (8 a.m. to noon). So they arrive slightly after noon and take over 2 hours to clean a furnace and seal a few joints, meanwhile charging an additional $200+. The next time I need service, I receive the same balony. The excuse: They can't give me a time because they may have an emergency or a previous service call will take longer than anticipated. Are you telling me that doctors can stick to a schedule, but an HVAC guy can't? read more

They replace my furnace 1-1/2 years ago and I was very happy with them so I called when my AC was making a loud noise and not cooling very well. The technician was nice but said the Freon was empty and I needed a new unit. AM quoted me $4,000-$5,200 for a new 2-1/2 ton unit (30,000 BTU), coil and line depending on what energy rating I wanted. I called another company for a second estimate. The technician from the second company said the Freon was below the freeze line but not that low and the leaking was at the unit not in the line so they filled it up the Freon and it worked fine. I had an older unit (20+ years) so I had them quote me for a new 2-1/2 ton unit, coil and line which was $2,500, granted it was at the low end of the efficiency scale (13-14.5 SEER). AM lost a customer and a sale since the technician didn't give me a full diagnosis of the AC and only tried to push me to a new system. read more

I called American Weathermakers out to clean my ducts. I have severe allergies and had had someone with a remote camera look at the ducts in a bedroom that was an addition to the house. OMG! They had piles of dust and debris in them! Weathermakers sent out their huge diesel powered vacuum truck. They say no one else in the Midwest has anything comparable and I believe them. They spent 5 hours here and did an incredible job. They were careful to find and clean every vent and duct and took special care to thoroughly clean the ducts in the back bedroom. I mentioned that I thought my fresh air intake was clogged with lint from my drier, so they took extra steps to make sure it was clear and also cleaned the drier vent! When they left the house smelled fresh and I could tell I was getting more air through the ducts. I'm extremely pleased with their work! read more

My furnace didn't work right so we called these guys based on their radio ads. I have used another company, but decided to try American Weathermakers. I won't make that mistake again. I called to have a guy come out. Since it is beginning of February, it is cold. The lady on the phone said they would be out before noon. I called at 7:45 am. When he got to my house, he had a bad attitude, didn't smile and looked like his job sucked. He diagnosed the issue and said he had to order the part. It would be $800 and take a few days. I was to be without heat for a few days in February. He then said he could go pick it up that day, but it would be an additional $300. Are you serious?!?!?!?!? I paid the diagnostic fee and politely asked him to leave. My other company came out that afternoon WITH the part and charged me half of what these guys were going to. Summary: American Weathermakers are not 60 minute men, they have bad attitudes and WAY overcharge. Don't use these guys. read more

The techs have been really friendly and professional, and I appreciate that they don't attempt to sell me on additional projects (like our previous company, who had expensive recommendations for things to do with our new build). We needed to use american weathermakers for the first time this week for emergency service and have been equally pleased. Over priced.Repair tech came out to repair our 11 yr old gas furnace. Found problem and fixed a loose wire. It took 20 minutes. He spent another 30 minutes trying to sell me a new furnace. The charge cost was $89.99 for diagnostic charge and also a " level one misc. Repair" with no parts for $188.00 Total cost for 20 minutes of work and a half hour of having to listen to a sales pitch was $277.00. read more

AWM has a nice staff and good price quotes. I always compare quotes, and AWM consistently is lower or on par with other services. A/C was a constant issue in one of my buildings and AWM has helped me get to the point where I haven't had to call them for an issue in over a year now. read more

Super nice guy, even though I was not here right when he got here (my son was) Rick had to put up with 7 foster kittens in the room with hime WHILE they all preceded to have accidents! We have used American Weathermakers for years. We have found them to be extremely honest, and their pricing is not unreasonable for the area. Whenever there was an issue they were extremely responsive. We had a tough situation trying to set up a second furnace in a crawlspace for zone heat under a large room that American Weathermakers calculated to use 24,000 BTUs just for that room alone. We got three different proposals and each proposal was vastly different based on the way the zone would be set up. We decided that the American weather makers proposal was most detailed and most feasible. They also went to lengths to be able to make the existing ducting work, which saved hugely. So we went with it. I can tell you after having that second furnace installed for five years now, it runs beautifully, and our heating bill actually went down having two furnaces instead of one. We were very concerned about the added heating cost of having two furnaces, and Weathermakers assured us that the heating bill probably would not go up. So imagine how great we thought it was when our heating bill actually went down! read more

My wife and I have been happy customers for a long time, first individually and then after we got married. As participants in the Comfort Club, we get twice-yearly maintenance and, for a couple emergency repairs we've needed, same-day response. We believe that the regular maintenance has helped keep our heating and air conditioning running well -- 16 years and counting -- so we can keep deferring expensive replacement. We're always comfortable with the techs who come to our home (Drew was just here for his third visit over the last couple years) and with the service they provide. When a part needs repair or replacement, they always show me what's wrong and explain it clearly and well (I'm a long-time techie, and I'd be able tell what's plausible and what isn't). They quote ridiculous prices then try to rope you into their "comfort club" for a discount. They will find $200-$500 worth of work to do every time they come out. Richard Hochschild and his crew of professional technicians are of the highest caliber. I used this company twice. The first was in 2004 to remove and reinstall a furnace. Out of three bids they offered the best price and from there everything went smoothly. The techs arrived on time and were very polite. Without having to even ask they immediately put shoe covers on to protect my floors. Our machine has been working perfectly since it was installed. The second time I call American Weathermakers was to have my air ducts cleaned. Again the tech was right on time, very professional, and left the home cleaner then he arrived. I've been a member of their Comfort Club for nearly 10 years. We've always been pleased with service and value in the past. Last weekend as temperatures reached the upper 90's, our A/C unit upstairs didn't give any cold air. I should also mention that the service tech had some suspicions last year during the service call, but we foolishly didn't follow the suggested advice for more diagnostic work then. In any case, we called for service the next day. The representative suggeted that instead of an emergency visit, we should just accelerate our next routine visit thereby saving us an unessary service call fee. That was very thoughtful. When the tech looked at our system, we were given several options in from diagnositc work to replacement. We felt the options were presentled as unbiased as one could expect. The diagostic work and likely repair cost would have been less than half of the cost of a new system, but considering that our unit was nearing the end of its expected life, a replacment might make sense (that saved on electric bills at the same time). We felt no pressure to go either way and decided on the replacment system. They have several units to choose (basic, better, best). The company suggested the basic system. I figured that if we were spending all of this money, why not spend a little more the unit that is "better". They explained that the benefits were quite marginal and that the less expensive unit was really the best way to go. The installation team led by Dave was great. They were exactly on time, polite, wore booties, and were very competent. The new unit required a lot of extra sheet metal work inside, but they were creative and worked hard. The end result looked perfect. In summary, we found Weathermakers to be prompt, thourough, honest, and a great value. We would highly recommend them to anyone. read more

The 60 minute guaranty that they advertise is worthless. Hot day, they still only have one man on late duty. Further, they were supposed to return to my house to finish the job, and they never called to come back. So when something broke (that they should have fixed if they had returned as promised), they still made me wait 7 hours (until midnight) for service. And we are very long time members of their Comfort Club. Really aggravating. read more

What a rip off - do not trust them! I'm so glad I went with a second opinion. I had a leaky boiler and the $89 diagnostic assessment suggested a $7k new boiler. If I wanted them to replace one faulty part (circular pump) it would cost $1,500 because they would need to empty all radiators first so they highly discouraged it. For my second opinion, I found out we had no water in the radiators to begin with (we just purchased this home). This new part was replaced and the faulty circular pump wasn't faulty at all. It just needed a new washer. I called to request a refund since they didn't diagnose the problem properly and WHITNEY told me I can take my opinions elsewhere... so here we are. I'm out $89 and Dominick didn't even diagnosis the issue properly. I'm very confident if my husband were home, the whole situation would have transpired differently...but they saw a female and thought they could take advantage. This company appears to take advantage of senior citizens. My parents needed a new air conditioner. They downsized the unit from 2 1/2 to 2 ton. Now you cannot get the temperature below 80 degrees. When they contact AW, they get the run around. "These new efficient units are supposed to run longer", etc. I think AW had a 2 ton unit laying around and this was a good place to unload it. I am advising them to file a complaint with the States Attorney's office as Lisa Madigan seems to be sensitive to the plight of senior citizens read more

Disappointed! 2 Years ago April we had AW install a brand new furnace and AC. While the AC has been fine, the furnace (made by Armstrong) has been nothing but trouble. 8 weeks into its first heating season and it stopped working. Service guy came out and cleaned a dirty flame sensor. That will be $200 bucks please plus another $180 for the "comfort club" ! Sht the thing was brand new. Now heating season 2 the pressure sensor is gone. Right after they had supposedly checked the furnace top to bottom during its annual inspection in late August. Now its November in Chicago and a little nippy. When I asked the guy what we were going to do over night for heat, he just shrugged. Said somebody from the office would call me back and let me know how long it would take to get the part. After prying on the service tech for a while, I figured out how to jury rig around the sensor so I could turn it on manually. After all the house was already down to 50 degrees when he showed up. No concern on their part and no follow up as we were promised! Day 2 and no call on the part availability! Seems somebody forgot we were owed a phone call. I actually had to call twice to get it straightened out. Part under warranty but service call YUP another $250 for a total of 45 minutes worth of work!!! So lets see. $4500 for a new furnace and in the 27 months we have had it we racked up another $630 bucks for stuff that should have never gone wrong in the first place. Avoid Armstrong built furnaces (including Lennox) and I am not very happy with American Weathermakers either. Very expensive for so so service! read more

American Weathermakers two strikes and very sloppy work: (1) you came to repair the furnace and your technician "Z" left a zip tie in some motor/valve he was trying to bypass. He left without removing the zip tie which left the furnace running non-stop. The thermostat read 72 and the temperature was 78. Luckily we figured it out. (2) your technician came to service a water heater and replaced something without properly tightening the valve. It smelled like natural gas but the tech said "no, that's sulpher from the matches I just used" and left. Later we called to report a very strong natural gas smell and Weathermakers said "call People's Gas." We did that. People's Gas tagged the problem and on the third call to Weathermakers, the technician asked if the People's Gas guys could tighten the bolt so he wouldn't have to come out. After People's Gas couldn't get it, he finally agreed to come and fix the problem that Weathermakers created during the repair. Would I use this company for a new furnace when the time comes? I doubt it. read more

I'm watching a house for a friend, walked in Saturday evening knowing this cold snap was coming - the house was 35 degrees, furnace fail. Called Weathermakers because he had a contract - Lukasz arrived within an hour, had to replace blower and motor (charged for parts and not service per contract) stayed for hours until he got it done and the house was warm. Reasonable parts and great service, and saved me from a potential diasaster. And he was very professional, even covering his feet with plastic as he walked in and out to protect the floors.
