Although I thoroughly enjoyed the food I do take an issue with their pricing and business-process inside the restaurant. While visiting they only had one POS running that was essentially an ipad without a CC scanner, requiring the user to ask the CC holder for their zipcode. This slows down the entire process significantly and seems unprofessional. Also their space to prepare their food is limited and chaotic, which gives them an opportunity to explore more space efficient options in the future. Lastly the price for the burgers without fries is around $10, which to me is excessive. I encourage the lowering of the price $1-2 or include a "snack size" fry The burgers are well prepared and delicious so I cannot help but give 4 Stars. This is by far the best place to go for a burger and even more so, the best place to go if you have a gluten allergy. They have tons of delicious options and I never have any reactions. First, to the people complaining about slow service: You don't get it, THIS IS NOT A FAST FOOD JOINT!!! Yes, it's small. Yes, it is mostly takeout food. But this is very high quality, large sized burgers. These presumably don't cook instantly like the gristle paddies at the big chain burger joints. So, the complaints about slow service are unfounded. I gave up on burgers years ago because most places serve burgers made out of the old, used up, dairy cows. They don't taste good and they're not good for you. Well, Hellllllo Wildburger. Grass fed beef and organic turkey flawlessly prepared and really, really, REALLY good. It's also a good value. You get a grassfed beef (or organic turkey) burger for $5.50. I recommend the place very highly. Go there expecting to wait, especially if they are busy, but even if they are not. Trust me, it's worth it. There is no other burger peddler within miles of Wildburger that even comes close. My only fear is that they're going to get so popular, there's won't be parking and the line will go down the block for a few hundred feet. read more

I live two blocks from American Wildburger and have been patiently awaiting it's arrival. After it opened I was there twice in four days and for a good reason. The hamburgers of are the highest quality (USDA Prime) and are cooked to order with fresh ingredients. I know many people these days are in a hurry but you cannot penalize an establishment for doing something the right way. It takes a little longer to get your burger but it is fresh, lean, and not greasy like Paradise Pup or Portillos, which are the only other options. AWB just opened and for any business it is going to take some time to get a fluid efficient system in place. I know that each time was there was better than the last so I believe that it can only get better with time. It is difficult to get a good high quality burger around Des Plaines, or was until AWB showed up. They cook the beef burgers to a medium to medium well with just a touch of pink to leave a nice juicy bite. The other burgers, wildburger included, are cooked well done because of the protein choice, it is the safest option. Only a counter with 5 stools, so keep that in mind if you decide to try this place out. And you should try them out! Fantastic burgers. So many topping options and combinations. Don't be deceived by the small size of this place. It has a big menu and fabulous burgers! One of our party is on a low carb diet, and the owner quickly told us that "special" burgers could be made with many exchanges, including without bun or as lettuce wraps. Big fan of American Wildburger! I have never once had a problem with the food I've ordered, and I've always found it to be delicious. They have a great Wednesday special. Make sure to get the Cajun Fries. Only thing to note, is that the restaurant itself is very small- maybe 8-10 seats at a counter. The food is also made fresh, so there can be a bit of a wait at high order times (lunch particularly)- but it's well worth it. First Impressions Was not familiar with the area, but able to find American Wildburger with no issues. Signage was adequate and parking in the surrounding area was available. The restaurant is very small and when I walked in, it was already cramped. Very little space to stand and wait, let alone sit down and eat. There were about 6 bar-type stools against the wall. Decided it was an eat in your car situation. Ordering Process For someone that is not experienced in processing loads of information, they may feel overwhelmed with the menu. I loved the menu. There were suggested burgers on the right, suggested dishes on the middle right and a clear and concise way to build your own burger in the middle. I went with a Bison burger, pretzel bun, bacon, avocado, jalapenos and mango BBQ sauce. Their fries were fresh cut so I decided to try the cajun fries. Ambiance I have to admit the one turn off was being cramped and not knowing where to go. If it wasn't 20 degrees, I would have waited outside, but I guess I am a sissy. The one thing I love is their overhead menu. They have per-determined burgers that sound great and they also have special dishes that are one of a kind. Staff Efficiency Staff of three and these guys were working hard. Phones were ringing, customers kept coming in and food was being pumped out. Mad respect for these guys. Also, the kitchen is in plain view. They had a prep station, charbroil grill (a-la Burger King) and that was about it. The food took a bit of time, but everything is home made. Food Quality Meat was of the finest quality. Seasoned perfectly and all the toppings were seemingly placed by design. Overall, one of the most balanced burgers I have had in a while. The cajun fries were excellent and definitely worth the 50 cent up charge. Overall I loved American Wildburger. The concept is brilliant, the menu is thoughtful and the execution is spot-on. These guys truly care about what they do. My one suggestion is to call your order in ahead, but know that you may miss the brilliance of their overhead menu and miss out on some special dishes. We were hungry, just bite the added cost. So we wait the hour it took to get to us (dinner time, 7:15, no biggie) but then find out they left out two orders of fries. Um... okay. So I called, was asked to hold, and basically dude just put the phone down on the counter or something because I could hear all the goings on in the background. I waited for 6 minutes before I just accepted that 6/7 bucks worth of fries wasn't worth it and hung up. Food wise - they were burgers. We were super starved so obviously we shnarfed them down like hungry hungry hippos. But the customer service and the high cost for the mediocre quality is gonna make this a pass for us. American Wild Cheeseburger was tasty and classic, the Blue burger was huge and had diverse flavor from mushroom, bacon to the blue cheese. Fries portion is huge and just one order will be enough for 3-4 people. Overall, I was pleasantly surprised by the food. Service was great overall, but the place was small and probably not enough seating for a big group but for a family meal there are tables outside.
