Ordered for pickup one night during the week. I ordered the All American Cheeseburger and a side of garlic Parmesan fries. Pick up was easy and the gentleman at the counter was nice. I really enjoyed the burger, it was fresh and tasty. The fries however were dry and surprisingly very plain tasting even with the garlic and Parmesan. Maybe they would taste better ordered at the restaurant? A decent option for a burger, next time I'll try to dine in.

The grilled cheese has an up-charge to put cheese on it. Are you kidding?

Ordered delivery via their website. I hadn't heard of them before but we decided to give them a shot. The burger was ok; I had the Year of the Goat burger and unfortunately the bottom bun in particular was not right for the burger, at least for delivery, because I ran out of bun by the end. Maybe a pretzel bun would have been better but I didn't want the taste of a pretzel burger. It had a bit of pink inside although I ordered it well done. But overall it was a really disappointing experience. I was a little unsure right from the start. They had a kids item, the grilled cheese sandwich, listed for $4.99 online. But then when you add ii to your cart, it's $4.99... until you add cheese. If you choose ANY cheese, that adds 79-99¢. So to get a toasted cheese sandwich for the $4.99 price the restaurant advertises you have to order it with... no cheese?? My significant other ordered a burger with grilled onion, jalapeño, and bacon on it. But there was no onion or bacon, which was a $3 additional charge. I tried calling the restaurant to get a refund for the missing items, but couldn't get through. I called the humber on Google and it rang ten times before I hung up, then I went to the website and called the number listed there in case it was wrong on Google; that resulted in a recording coming on immediately saying that the party I called was unavailable. This was 30+ minutes before their stated closing time. Given that they lie about the price and up-charge to have cheese on a CHEESE sandwich, and that they can't get the order right on a burger that is literally the first one listed on the "build your own burger" section of the menu, I'm not going back nor will I recommend them.

Looking for a place to eat in Des Plaines, I discovered this restaurant on Yelp. The inside of the restaurant was a little dingy. Food prices seem high. For 3 sandwhiches, it was about $52. It did take some time for our food, and we were dining in. However, they do have a super large menu. Beef, chicken, and vegetarian options. My burger was really delicious. If you aren't in a rush, give them a try. They were pretty friendly.

Skirt Steak Sandwich we received

I have been coming to this business since they opened next door. We usually just order a burger but this time we tried other items We ordered steak tacos steak sandwich chicken sandwich and cheese fries I picked up the order and when I got home what we received was sad The tacos were falling apart onions not raw and no cilantro. No salsa was given The steak sandwich looked empty with few pieces of meat Chicken sandwich looked pressed down Fries was only thing that was ok but their dipping cheese looked like honey mustard. I didn't try that So we called to complain and the manager Edgar said I could come back to get a refund since I paid cash The next day I went back and Edgar was there but I was spoken to by another gentleman that was Rude He gave me my money. ( not complete. I gave them $60 cash and was given $39.88. Either way they told me not to return to their establishment Pictures One skirt steak example from their tic tok And one picture of what we received It's a shame

Impossible cheeseburger with garlic parm fries were perfection. Easygoing ambiance, friendly staff that checks in regularly, and comfort food that really hits the spot. I'll be back soon.

Came in on a random evening as I was working in the area and was super surprised with how good this place was. The owner cooks the food which is always a plus, and everything tasted amazing. Good music, sports on, can't complain about a thing.

We walked into a clean and roomy building and eyed the many options on the menu. The friendly staff took our order and was helpful answering any questions we had. I ordered the old fashioned All American Burger and it was piled high with meat and toppings. Beefy and full of flavor. At first I was a little disappointed with the Cajun fries. They were highly seasoned but a little mild for this southerner's palate. But then I dunked one into their ketchup and my tongue perked up. A touch of horseradish made everything come together beautifully.

Are your GF buns vegan? I can eat meat but not eggs or dairy. Also, does your buffalo sauce have dairy?

Do you guys use the Creekstone Beef brand?

I see there are gluten free options? Do you have a dedicated fryer only for fries? I am asking because I have celiac disease. Thanks

Yes anything that goes in our fryer is gluten free. We are very serious about celiac

Just expect good food, fast. Their menu is simple: burgers, chicken sandwiches, hot dogs, fries, pop, and milkshakes. The burgers come in either a single, double, or triple stack, with cheese. I got the cheeseburger and hubby got the two on two (double stack) and we were satisfied with the burgers. It was simple, juicy, grilled and good. The whole family loved the fries. Service was pretty fast, we got ours in less than 10 minutes. Dining tables are available inside to eat, and also a few tables outside in the parking lot if you prefer the outdoors. We dropped off my son at ORD so we decided to stop by Small Cheval for a late lunch…read more The place was not as busy as normal which was great as we were able to place our order quickly. I was not in the mood for a veggie burger so I got a cheese bun, which is essentially a cheese sandwich but I added all the veggies and condiments that come with the burger. Threw in a side order of fries as well. After placing the order, we waited for the buzzer to go off. The cheese bun was big Ava surprisingly filling. It tasted a little like a burger that has meat in it. It was satisfying along depth my golden fries. As we dined, we noticed the roof was open and found out it is retractable which is so nice. We never noticed in the past as we come here in the winter or they didn't open it. It gave some natural lighting. I enjoyed that. Small Cheval is great, fries are the best. The workers are nice and it's a nice place to take visitors of dropping off or picking up from the airport. We will be back for sure.

For those who don't know, Small Cheval is the fast casual version of Au Cheval which I've had the opportunity to try in NYC. There's plenty of locations throughout Chicago so definitely make it a stop when you're in town. Now is it as good as Au Cheval? Definitely not but at one-third of the price point, it's hard to complain. The beef patties are well-seasoned with crispy edges and just the right amount of fattiness. My main complaint is that there wasn't nearly enough dijonnaise sauce or pickles, making this pretty dry. The bun was nicely buttered and toasted but almost took away from the contents inside the burger. The Famous Fried Chicken Tenders were also a good try. I could tell the chicken was clean & high quality but there was some flavor I couldn't quite place which made it a bit off-putting; thankfully it wasn't super noticeable especially with the sauces. The Golden Fries were delicious and paired well with the burger & tenders! Even the Cookies & Cream Milkshake was solid! Classic milkshake with a good balance of creaminess, sweetness, and texture from the cookie bits. The interior was also bright, spacious, and comfortable! All in all, really solid try!

As soon as the soda…read moremachine (for the water cups!) is installed, and the Hot Chicken Shawarma Wrap makes a comeback. In the meantime, I ordered a Hot Chick (medium heat), with a side of fries, some extra pickles, and the garlic sauce to make my Slavic heart happy. The food came out fresh from the bubbling oil, it could be handled without burns, but clearly spent no time under a lamp. Both the chicken and the fries were fried to a delectable crunch. No twice-fried-as-an-excuse here, genuinely well done. My only note is that it feels as though the fries and chicken *may* have spent an extra 15 seconds in the fryer. While the innards were tender, it felt as though a tinge of moisture was sacrificed without need. The fries were seasoned perfectly, and other than the usual delight of dipping them into everything on the plate, they were perfect as they were. Fantastic amount too, not the starch overload of Five Guys, but not a skimpy serving either. The chicken sandwich was the real star. The medium contained some proper spice without having smoke come out the ears. It was well sauced, and had a great hit of acid from the pickles. Out of left field came the slaw: I was not expecting to like this to the point of almost leaving it out. However, it was fresh, felt homemade, and wasn't a mayonnaise bomb. Would order the again without complaints or reservations. I also had a chance to try their house-made lemonade. I appreciate that they use zero-calorie sweetener to cut down on sugars. However, it came out too sweet for my liking. It would be helpful to have options of level and type of sweet. Final notes: The server behind the counter was very welcoming and friendly, and the food came out in a reasonable time frame considering how fresh everything was. Final verdict: A case where I say it's a good thing Nash Bros is a little bit of a hike, otherwise I might visit too much for my health. Barring some minor notes, everything was scrumptious, and I'd happily order it all again (and likely will!)

Had the burratta & fig, porkbelly brushetta, and a flatbread as apps. Loved it all. porkbelly was so tender, the burratta & fig was a good balance of sweet and savory. Needless to say, the flatbread was a hit with the kids as well. Other notable dishes were the beef shwarma and the crispy duck. Ambiance- LOVE it! It can be fancy if you want, it can be more casual if you want. Enjoyed the church vibes mixed with modern touch. Very well decorated. The outdoor area is so cute, esp overlooking the lake. We sat indoors but still a wonderful ambiance. Bonus: they have a changing table in the women's bathroom. Sorry, could not confirm in the men's. Service- this was definitely impressive. You don't always get service especially at some of these well known restaurants bc why would you have to have good service? We had made reservations online and it was initially indoor. They were so awesome about switching it to outdoor with out much trouble even if we were 10 minutes late. But the air quality was so bad so once we were about to get settled we requested for indoor again. There was only smiles and a happy to help attitude and got us settled. I want to highlight our waitress, Ciara (Sierra?). With a party of 9, she was so thoughtful of our orders esp for the kids. I mean, when we ordered lemonade for them she even asked if she wants us to water it down and as parents we were like YES! They do not need that much sugar LOL! She was just overall so warm and communicative. She checked in and made sure we were comfortable. Her smile and pleasant attitude made it easier when we had three little ones wanting to walk around after eating and trying to keep them entertained at a table.

We intentionally made this our "no budget" celebration, expecting exceptional food, service, and hospitality. Instead, it turned into one of the most disappointing restaurant experiences we've ever had. Our reservation was for 7:00 p.m. on July 2, and despite having a reservation, we waited more than 20 minutes to be seated. During that time, we watched people walk in, greet someone they appeared to know, and be seated immediately at the bar while we continued to wait. My husband had gone out of his way to ensure our anniversary would be acknowledged. He noted on the reservation that it was our five-year anniversary, called ahead before our dinner to confirm the restaurant was aware, and even checked with the host stand when we arrived. We weren't asking for anything extravagant--just the kind of small acknowledgment that many restaurants happily provide for guests celebrating a milestone. Nothing happened. There was no congratulations, no acknowledgment from our server, no candle with dessert, no handwritten note, nothing. We even ordered dessert ourselves, and it arrived exactly as if it were any ordinary Tuesday night. The service only added to the disappointment. Our server was curt, rarely checked on us despite our ordering two appetizers, two entrées, dessert, and several rounds of drinks, and never made us feel welcomed or cared for. For a restaurant positioning itself as a destination for special occasions, the level of hospitality simply wasn't there. Unfortunately, the food didn't make up for it. Considering the price point, we expected much more. Most dishes were surprisingly bland and underseasoned, and nothing we ordered stood out as memorable. At the end of the evening, my husband politely mentioned everything to the host stand. The response was essentially that our anniversary "must have gotten lost in communication," followed by an offer of a dessert to take home. By that point, the moment had already passed. A boxed dessert cannot replace a once-in-a-lifetime celebration that was overlooked from start to finish. No manager came over to speak with us, no one took ownership of the experience, and there was no meaningful attempt to make things right. This wasn't just dinner--it was our fifth wedding anniversary, a milestone we'll never get to celebrate again. We chose Foxtail because we trusted it would deliver an exceptional experience worthy of the occasion. Instead, we left feeling ignored, disappointed, and wondering why we spent so much money on an evening that felt like an afterthought. If you're looking for a restaurant to celebrate an anniversary, proposal, birthday, or other meaningful milestone, I cannot recommend Foxtail on the Lake based on our experience. There are too many restaurants that understand hospitality and know how to make guests feel special. Sadly, this wasn't one of them.
