I really enjoyed my breakfast at this cool little spot in Capitol Hill. We sat on the patio on this beautiful day and watched the people pass and gawked at the variety of dogs walking down the street. What we ordered: Americana Benedict: two poached eggs over potato cakes and Canadian bacon then topped with a creamy tomato, mushroom sauce. This was definitely a unique twist on the breakfast plate that I'm so fond of. I was a fan of the sauce and it reminded me of a chunky marinara. The potato cakes held the sauce and the runny egg together nicely so ensure nothing was lost. I literally licked the plate clean - including the piece of grapefruit garnish that came with the meal. Nothing was left behind. French Toast: delicious crunchy toast covered in egg batter and topped with fresh fruit. The selection of the day was peaches, and since I'm a fan, that was a total win. It came with breakfast meat and some real maple syrup for the win. I'm not a huge French toast fan, but I really liked this and would definitely order it for myself when I return. The staff was super informative and friendly and my coffee cup never reached the halfway level. Another bookmark that sat forever, I finally went in the other day for breakfast, ordering the Chicken Sausage Scramble: served with generous amount of parmesan cheese. The potatoes that came with it were a great texture, but they did need a little salt. I had my choice between their sourdough bread, or their Udi's gluten-free bread. You know I went for the latter--and smothered the bread liberally with their fantastical preserves mmmm A couple slices of orange perfectly finished up the meal. Besides the preserves, they had a housemade habanero sauce, which was savory and tasted great! Not as hot as other habanero sauces out there, but still spicy ;) They also have Stevia as a sweetener! I'm glad they're staying open thanks to one of the cooks who bought the place and is now running it with his family. I've been back twice since under new ownership, and the brunch is still awesome. I've had really mixed experiences here. The first time was with too large a group for this place. We tried to make reservations, but they didn't let us. We tried to give them a heads up that there would be 7 or 8 of us coming in, but they didn't seem to care. We waited for an hour and only got approached once before we left. The second time I came here with two friends. We had a bit of a wait, but eventually were seated. I had a scramble of sorts that was mediocre to say the best. Both of my friend's thought the food was ok, but nothing to rave about. The last time I went here it was empty. We were sat right away and there were plenty of open tables (maybe it was since it was so early on a Saturday). I had french toast with bananas and the waitress described it as having some sort of nuts, but I definitely didn't taste the nuts. Either way, the food was delicious. Both my friend and I cleared our entire plates. There are two main complaints I have. One, for keeping patrons waiting for soooo long there is no good place to stand to wait. Maybe 3-4 people can fit inside the restaurant while waiting. Outside there is a covered area but when the wait gets long there's too many people standing under it to be comfortable. I wouldn't want to be waiting here for a table if it was raining or super cold out. Second, the service always seems to be slow. They're good at topping off coffee, but that's about it. Maybe this is why the wait tends to be so long. Either way, if there is a regular in there don't expect your waiter or waitress to be coming over to check on you that often. read more

I feel like brunch foods can sometimes all become a blur when you eat brunch frequently but at different locations.. There are the classics like your eggs Benedicts, country fried steak, biscuits and gravy, etc. and you can only remember the dishes that were executed either really well or unique in some way. We tried Americana for a late brunch and surprisingly did not have to wait at all! Here's how it went down: 1. Maple glazed pork belly.. Zomg you gotta try this if you're anything like me and my boyfriend you'll love it! The pork belly itself is to die for perfect! Super crispy on the one side and so soft and melt in your mouth on the other! The corn pancake was a nice touch. It's gritty, and held together with mozzarella and it gives a different textural element you don't expect from your normal flapjack. And they dress up your scramble eggs with scallions which I love! And of course a punch of sweetness from the maple glaze that coats the bottom of the plate! Overall, just a beautifully made plate if you appreciate simple yet complex flavors. 2. Americana Benedict. Poached eggs, potato cakes, smoked Gouda (my favorite), Canadian bacon, with a creamy tomato mushroom sauce is how they describe it. I'm a sucker for eggs, potatoes, and mushrooms so this sounded like a winner to me. I loved the potato cake idea in place of the English muffin but the potato cakes were cold and got lost in what was more of a marina/ spaghetti sauce and the eggs came out more soft boiled than anything and I love bennys because of the runny yolks you can use as sauce! So I had them remake them which they were pretty nice about. Maybe I caught this dish on an off day but I could live without this. 3. French toast! Just yes! I'm not normally that person that can stuff themselves but always have room for something sweet but their French toast is the TRUTH! The bread was so crunchy, the seasonal berries added a needed tartness and the syrup was awesome! Just soooo delicious! 4. Pineapple mimosa was okay. Sounded better than it tasted. Which is a total shame, because I would have come here for brunch SO much had I known otherwise! Rather empty when we dropped in around 1:30pm, my friend and I ordered their: * Corned Beef Hash ($11.50) [ http://flic.kr/p/doL9yS ] - The usual corned beef, tomatoes, and eggs one would expect in such a dish, but with their own unique presentation of it, with large cubes of corned beef, poached eggs, and served along with cubes of butternut squash. Definitely made our evening that much better! On to the food, ohhh my goodness! The food very stupendous! Truffle Popcorn might as well be crack it's so addictive. I am so glad we did as it completely changed the hot and sweaty negative vibe we were feeling. We ordered a couple of drinks that came out fast and were just what we were looking for. It's Broadway, and thankfully that doesn't mean going to the ATM just so you can park...there's a lot behind the Alley that takes credit cards. Thank heaven for small conveniences. There's definitely a wait; it's a small place. The staff is friendly, the neighborhood still has the great goofy vibe it's had, for the most part. You're kind of shoved in once you get sat, but it's comfortable. Good coffee, good OJ, everything coming together nicely. They did space off part of our order, but it would certainly have been too much food, anyway, so that was absolutely fine. The bacon was a tiny bit overcooked. First, perhaps my friends are weird, but a lot of folks I've brought here eat the toast plain, which is kind of dry by itself. They have an excellent jam to put on the toast, I'm pretty sure that's how it's meant to be eaten. I wanted to update not just to say that I still come here way too much, but that the woman who does the eggs for brunch is an Egg Genius. Every manner of egg I've had has been so delicious. I especially enjoy the frittatas; I don't think they're a standard item on the menu, but tend to appear frequently as a brunch special. Which is another great aspect of Americana, the weekly specials add a really nice variety to the fare. This is the only place I've really felt like a regular at, and the friendly staff definitely helps keep me coming back. They'll try to learn what types of food you like, discount dishes not up to their standards (I had a flatbread that was too dry and they took half off), and even sometimes give complimentary drinks. Commuters and residents can now take advantage of the light rail extension to the Hill which is great because it takes less than 5 minutes to get up there from Westlake depending on Metro and Sound Transit buses in the tunnel. I came here to have brunch with some girlfriends. One of my girlfriends picked this place actually, so I was excited to try it, since I've heard about it before. I love eating brunch food! I could seriously eat it anytime of day. When I finally was able to find street parking and after walking several blocks to the restaurant, we had to wait about thirty minutes for a table. I guess it's really popular place in Capitol Hill. I ordered the lavender mimosa and the Seattle Slam. The mimosa was really good (and pretty strong). I had a bite of my friends pork belly with cornmeal pancakes and which was good but again nothing too special. They told us the wait would be 15 minutes and we ended up waiting for 40 mins. My friend got the pancakes (don't remember which one) but he enjoyed it. He said the texture was good and they were pretty fluffy. Who knows? Thanks to Groupon I went here with a few people for brunch this past weekend and boy, were we all amazed by the awesomeness of this place! Sadly, the server said they were out, I was a little saddened, so I was just going to have a regular one, but then he came back and said he found one more bottle of the bacon vodka and my spirits were lifted 83203820 fold! I was beyond excited! He was super friendly and was a great server! He made my morning with this! I enjoyed every sip of it and it's very good! If you love bacon and bloody mary's, get this! IRISH OATMEAL: I got this with fruit on the side instead of the toast that it was suppose to come with. The fruit was really fresh & the amount of oatmeal given was generous. The oatmeal is topped with fresh bananas & served with brown sugar on the side. It was soaked in the right amount of milk & wasn't too soft or hard. FRENCH TOAST: If you come here you have to get their French toast! The fruits they top the French toast with is seasonal I believe so the fruit we got were roasted apples. It was sooooo delicious. Their French toast is really crispy & is even good without the syrup; let's be real you have to add a little syrup for that extra sweetness though to really enjoy what their French toast has to offer. On a recent trip to Seattle, I tried out this place for Sunday brunch. I was on my own (I'm an independent woman who don't need no man...or friends ;)) and was watching football on my phone. I thought there would be a wait, but since I was alone, I got right in for the bar seating (which is at the back). The waitress was very nice and my food came out pretty quick. I got a half order of french toast and an omelette. Both were quite good. However, I also ordered a bloody mary. That took awhile to come out and was mediocre. I didn't finish it, and I rarely find a bloody mary I can't finish. Since I was in the back, my LTE wasn't very good, and their wi-fi made streaming my games hard. That was a little disappointing. Came here on a whim and WOW. I did check the reviews beforehand and saw several mentioning the French toast and figured you can't really mess it up, I guess I just had lower expectations. The place was definitely packed for brunch but we only had to wait 20 minutes for 2, we were seated towards the back at the 'bar' which we didn't mind at all since it was intimate (there's plenty tables and even a corner booth for larger parties). For drinks my bf got a brown sugar bourbon coffee and I essentially got a peach mimosa, both were so delicious and paired well with our food, which of course I got the French toast, luckily for me they were served with strawberry compote that day! And my boyfriend got the avocado pepper jack omelet. His plate was definitely more loaded and filling, whereas mine felt a little short but it was definitely the best French toast I've had so it made up for it. Let me just start off by saying that, this place is truly American! The portions are humongeous, almost double the amount you would get at a typical American breakfast/brunch place! Totally worth every penny you spent on a hearty healthy (or not so healthy) traditional breakfast! Came here with a friend on a weekday morning, surprisingly there was no line outside! The avocado and jack cheese omellete was delicious. They probably put 3 or 4 eggs into it because the egg wrap was very thick, just the way I like'em. The cheese and avocado melted in your mouth. The Americana, good for breakfast? Yeah! I came here early one morning with my dad and my fiancé to have breakfast. The waiter was really friendly and very helpful so the service is five stars all around. We ordered and the food arrived relatively quickly. I ordered the French Toast as did my dad. When the food first arrived it looked great. However, there was a strange smell to the French toast, I still can't figure out what if was. The French toast itself tasted off, if was way to hard and didn't taste like anything I've ever had or would want to eat again. Even still, the French toast fails to reflect on the business as a whole. Although I didn't enjoy my French toast, they have many other selections and I'll definitely be back to try some more plates. We went there for brunch today with my cousin who's in town for business and thought this is an 'ok' place. I had "The Broadway" which includes two eggs, chicken sausage, and roasted potato. Honestly, nothing was special about this dish and the sausage is a little on the dry side. On the other hand Frank had corn beef hash and it was delicious. Corn beef was cubed and saute with pepper and potato and two eggs on top. Jimmy has their Seattle Slam but there isn't much of slam there. When the food arrived, I thought wow that is such a small amount of food on that big plate. Seattle Slam includes two pancakes, bacon, and eggs... again nothing impressive. Service was none existence. The girl seems a little distracted or had a busy morning and was a little impatient when she tried to take our orders. Other than the time taking order, we didn't see her until we are paying our bills. Even then she didn't ask how was our meal. I want to like this restaurant more because it's located in a hip location on Capital Hill but don't think we will go back again, especially not for their brunch. Recently on a trip to Seattle I was staying near Capital Hill and came across this restaurant while researching good breakfasts in the area. I am so happy that I was able to make it in twice during my trip, and both times I had an amazing meal. The first time I went, we were there early enough to avoid the hour+ wait that they sometimes get. I ordered the breakfast sandwich without meat, and it was really delicious. They put some garlic butter on the bread (which is amazing bread too) and served it with optional fruit in exchange for the no meat. The eggs were tender and not overcooked and the flavor profiles on the bread and butter and cheese were just super cozy and delicious. I split some french toast with my husband and it was SUPER delicious. They have their own home made jams too which sit on the table throughout the meal and mixed with the french toast it was divine. The second time was during the weekday and was for lunch, but they have breakfast all during their day hours so I was able to re-order this sandwich again. It was super delicious the second time too. There was no wait at all, and I was there around 11:30am on a Tuesday. Its a great week day hang out because its a bit quieter. I highly recommend this restaurant. I know the wait is long, but for Capital Hill and the other options - this is a great must on the list. The only other place that had food this good on Capital Hill was Witness which does a great breakfast with ultra slow service. Thumbs up for sure!! read more

Brunch! I LOVE BRUNCH! We arrived around 10am and there was a short wait. My first tip is to get here right when it opens around 9am so you don't have to wait. A little after we arrive, the wait list got even longer, 4-5 more groups came. I like that they provide coffee while you wait in the hallway, good job Americana. First, the coffee is amazing. I don't know where they get their beans from but it taste amazing. We picked 2 of the 3 specials for the day. 1) French toast with poached pears- AMAZING. Crispy french toast topped with those pears was a perfect blend of sweetness. The real maple syrup was the cherry on top to a wonderful meal. 2) Eggs in a basket with wild mushroom gravy- THE EGG IS IN THE TOAST. Woah! I mean she told us the eggs were in the toast but it was so cool to see it. Gravy was vegetarian and so so delicious. It was just as amazing as the french toast so I'm super happy to get to try it. 3) Side of scrambled egg- cooked to perfection no doubt. Great atmosphere, you can get drinks, I wish I had known about the milkshakes because I would have ordered one. Definitely a place to try but get there early or you'll be waiting; I think it's worth the wait though. read more

I'm not one to casually throw out 1 star reviews, but I must say, yesterday is the last time I will ever dine here. One of the lead waitresses (dark brown, short curly hair) is extremely rude, unfriendly and very condescending to her customers. I've had the displeasure of being waited on her two times in a row and I'm over it, especially given how polite my friends and I always are. On both occasions, she treated us like idiots upon having questions about the menu, raising her voice such as yesterday "REPEAT: It's an ORRRRRANGE and HONEY pancake, SO NO - NOT BUTTERMILK - AND NO, ABSOLUTELY NO SUBSTITUTIONS [for the Seattle slam]" and cut us off mid-sentence by simply walking away to the next table. I thought maybe she was just having a bad day the first time which was several months ago, but given yesterday this must be what she perceives as acceptable customer service. I can't help but wonder if she has disdain for gay men or something (ironic, because I'm pretty sure she's queer herself), because she barely can seem to contain her eye rolls at us. read more

This place was delicious! I normally don't like corned beef hash but theirs was so attractive, I had to try and I'll say the more bites I took out of it, the more I liked it. I added their green jalapeño sauce which added the kick it was missing initially but as you get down to your last few bites, the herbs and spices are in full effect. The only downside is that the wait is really long and you can't make reservations. By the time my boyfriend and I got there to the time we got our food was about an hour and ten minutes which is why I give it a four stars. It's definitely worth the try but I wouldn't quite say it's a go-to for me. read more
