Because there's always a crowd at this restaurant, expectations were high but my brunch experience here was just okay. Basic breakfast, nothing special or unique. If there was any star of the show, it was the bread (you can get as a side of toast, or the French toast). The meal was so bland that I'm having to give credit to the bread (however I'm positive this bread comes from a separate bakery). I have mixed feelings. Its a very small and closely seated restaurant. You feel pretty crowded and hard to talk intimately. Since some stranger is a few inches away from you. The service was good though and food was tasty! The prices seemed pretty fair as well. I come here for brunch on the weekends when I am craving Chicken Fried Steak. I order it with a side of scrambled eggs + goat cheese. It is so yummy! I would recommend coming here to try the Chicken Fried Steak if you are a fan of that dish at other brunch locations. I say this because I normally am not a fan and I can be picky when it comes to any type of big piece of meat lol. Do your eggs however you want with this dish but be warned, the only downside is the potatoes that come with. They barely have any seasoning and sometimes come a lil more oily than preferred. A other times before I tried the Chicken Fried Steak, I tried the Americana Benedict and the Maple Glazed Pork Belly. They were pretty good overall. Both had a lot of flavor but not my favorite. For sides, I am a fan of the toast here; especially when you use the Jam on that is already on the table. I also enjoy both the hot sauces. I would not recommend the Chopped Salad but maybe that is because it tasted plain and I am not a huge fan of the ingredients. For drinks, I would get one of the mimosa's if you drink alcohol. Otherwise the Juice is also nice and thirst clenching. The staff here are always super friendly and even though crowded, seem to have an eye on each table if they are looking like they need something. You can modify your meal as needed and they are accommodating. The only thing is there may be a price increase and some of them forget to mention it to you. Maybe they assume you already know that changing their dish could result in a different price but it is nice that some of them tell you before you finalize your order. This place is very small so if you come at prime time, expect a little or a big wait. You can call ahead and ask for the wait time if you do not have time to spare. The lobby is basically a door opening so you will be waiting outside. This is not a problem in the nice warm weather, but in the winter... be prepared. I love this place. I think I've been there every morning, pretty much, for several weeks. You could not get a more welcoming, nicer waitstaff. They are truly sweethearts. (And where else can you get a *perfectly* made frozen mango margarita to go with your freshly made lemon blueberry pancakes?) Yes, folks have mentioned the bathroom is a little sketchy. Popped in off the light rail from the airport to sneak some brunch while on a conference call for work. Simple decor with old school see through to the kitchen, I was digging the relaxed vibe. I didn't need a fancy meal, just my mood for the day so most of the menu was a little much for me. What I had was on point! I will eat eggs when they aren't done well but I sure do appreciate when they are and I could tell the difference. Came in for lunch with co workers and the food here is amazing. Got the Americana Benedict which has a salsa based sauce as opposed to a hollandaise sauce. It was fantastic and the poached eggs were perfect. With a few adult drinks and 3 lunches total came out to be just over 100.00 which is reasonable. Service wasn't too great as we sat with no response when asking for salt for about ten minutes, but I'll provide leniency as it seems as there were only two servers on staff at the time. The food is overpriced and the servers are rude. My friend and I came here around 11:30 on a Sunday after we discovered the 1.5-hour wait at the other brunch place we wanted to try. We got in within 15 minutes, but not before the host curtly called my friend's name in a tone reminiscent of a parent scolding their child and then not even making eye contact as he pointed to a table. When my friend tried to clarify which table he meant, he responded in an exasperated tone and you could hear the eye rolling. For a place that proudly displays a "safe place" sign, the service does not seem inclusive or welcoming in the least bit. Now sometimes I overlook the service if the food is great, but this was not one of those times. My friend ordered the pancakes and said they were okay. I got the maple glazed pork belly. The pork belly was too fatty and it wasn't even glazed as expected; it was just doused in syrup, so the actual meat had no flavor. The scallion eggs were bland, but the corn pancakes were interesting. We both got fresh fruit smoothies, and for $6 each, I was expecting something that didn't taste like what I make at home when I mess up the proportions of ingredients. For $22 (before tip), I wanted to feel like I was treating myself to a nice meal, but instead, it felt like a bad decision. All in all, this place left a bad taste, in more ways than one. Today I got the French toast (my usual), and it was really bad- it was greasy and almost burnt, and the fruit on top was cold, canned peaches- it's peach season and the French toast is one of their signature dishes! I only ate a few bites, and no one checked on us during the meal to ask if everything was ok ( it was nearly empty on a Monday morning). When the busser took it away, she asked if I was done- not was there anything wrong or even ask if I wanted a to go box. i said I didnt like it, and mentioned my complaints. She had no reaction. When the waitress came back I again described my dissatisfaction. She also had no comment, other than saying "yes, peaches" when I mentioned the cold canned peaches on top. One of my new favorite brunch places in Cap Hill! I was tired of the same places around me, and I was scrolling through Yelp and came across Americana. It is quaint and cozy, and the service was fast. The menu was one of the best I've seen, and I opted for the Maple Glazed Pork Belly. I loved everything about this dish! The pork belly was crispy, sweet, savory, and decadent. The fatty bits melt in your mouth, and the cornmeal pancakes were perfect. The scrambled eggs were good also, I loved the herbs in them. This ended up not being a great breakfast dining option for us. We were not impressed by the menu options but decided to stay because we had a reservation and the reviews were overall good. The service was slow with a sprinkle of attitude. The interior was muggy and warm; too warm for a surprisingly 76 degree October morning. We wanted to sit outside but the seating was limited and not much of a view other than street and buildings. The French toast was good but the peaches and it's syrup ruined it for me. The namesake Benedict, based on visual presentation, did not persuade me to try it out BUT I did try the sauce that it was lathered in... if we wanted spaghetti sauce we would have gone to an Italian restaurant. If you'd like a side of bacon be prepared to pay almost $10 bucks for it. The interior is okay but rather crowded with not much floor space for even the staff to maneuver around without nearly colliding into each other. This place is great! Small kind of hole in the wall place but with slightly more upscale food :) We came on a Saturday morning around 9:30am with no wait which I was pleasantly surprised about! I'm sure if you come at 10 or later there will probably more likely be a wait as the place had filled up by the time we left. I had their pork belly with corn pancakes (basically like corn bread) and scallion eggs. I think the eggs were a little heavy on the scallions but other than that everything was delicious! However my boyfriend got the chicken fried steak which he said was okay. He felt it tasted as though it may have been previously frozen. Service was friendly and food came out pretty quick! As from previous reviews, they are at 100% capacity inside with servers wearing masks. The tables are fairly close together due to the space. They do require you to wear a mask when you enter, but with the place being so small, you basically walk 5 steps to your table and then you can take it off. read more

I had a revelation at Americana when a friend and I came here for dinner earlier this week. Previously, I had a poor opinion about the taste of truffle oil. I was introduced to truffle oil at the Violetta food cart at Good Food Here pod on Belmont in Portland, when I ordered their fries. I didn't like the fries one little bit (note: Violetta is no longer around). At Americana, we were served complimentary popcorn that was incredibly delicious. We asked what it was seasoned with, and our server told us it was truffle oil. It seems truffle oil is actually good, nay fabulous, when used sparingly. OK, I'm now ready to try the truffle fries at Little Big Burger in PDX. I was a little dubious about Americana, because it never seemed that busy, but solid Yelp reviews persuaded us to try it out. Actually, I'm glad it wasn't crowded, because that allowed us to grab an outside table. Service was friendly and attentive. A note about the menu: everything looked tempting. Dishes are divided into small, medium and large categories. While the Americana menu boasted a gin martini made with champagne and lemon juice, I stuck with a traditional martini, and it was excellent. Bonus points to Americana for filling the glass to the rim. Penny had an amazing (neon) pink vodka lemonade that had been enhanced by lavender syrup. For a starter, Penny picked pea vines. I went with the deviled eggs (dang, I've been on quite a deviled egg kick of late, even purchasing them out of the Safeway deli fridge). I'd never heard of eating pea vines before, but seasoned with a little onion, they're really good. The deviled eggs, with a bit of bacon in the devil mix, were delicious too. For the main course, Penny opted for the Fried Cornish Game Hen, and I picked the Venison meatloaf. Both dishes were excellent. Penny's chicken, lightly seasoned with sage, had a nice crust and rested upon a bed of manchego grits. These were the creamiest and tastiest grits ever. Manchego is a Spanish cheese made from sheep's milk. I particularly liked the tangy barbecue-like sauce that coated my mildly seasoned venison meat. The broccolini was tender, but not soft. However, it was spicy hot with chili. Accompanying the venison were mammoth-sized tater tots, served with a very nice sweet soy ketchup. All around, an excellent dinner. read more

TL;DR - a tasty brunch worth the wait! Their wait system is a bit clunky. You'll arrive to find people standing outside, but have no idea how to get your name on the list. Walk inside and you STILL won't be sure what to do. I arrived around 12:30 on a Sunday and it was suuuuper hectic inside. But if you look closely enough, you'll find the list that you add your own name and party size to. A simple sign with instructions would have been really helpful. The menu is filled with delicious brunch classics, and my friend and I had a tough time deciding what to get. I'm gluten free, so I was stoked to see that you can sub bread on any dish for Udi's bread. What a treat! I went with the breakfast sandwich and subbed sweet potato fries for the breakfast potatoes. My friend had the East Coast, and it was huge!! She said it was absolutely delicious. Our waiter was really friendly and checked in on us a few times. Despite the continuous long wait, we were never rushed. In fact, our water and coffee was constantly refilled with a smile! If you need to use the bathroom, beware. You'll need to take a key attached to a red plastic phone and go outside, down a long hallway, take a left turn, and unlock the last door. Our waiter told me the restroom was "down the hall" and rushed off, so I was a little lost at first. All in all, a really nice brunch experience. read more

Oh how I missed Capitol Hill! This restaurant feels like a hole in a wall, but trendy. I love that kind of vibe: small and intimate with lots of character. For a really small restaurant, they have so many offerings with LOTS of flavors! I love food combinations that I haven't had before, and this restaurant was it. I ordered Eggs Benedict "their way" and it was on a potato pancake smothered in this tomato- mushroom sauce. Loved the spices and seasoning. We also ordered the chicken fried steak and it was also delicious. The gravy was thick and creamy-- I got to say one of the best gravy I ever had! They also had this house made hot sauce---- omg I wanted to drink it (but I didn't). Staff was super nice and service was fast. The only thing was that I am just personally uncomfortable with their dining set up due to COVID. The restaurant is small, and it felt crowded even if they limit their guest. My boyfriend and I came here for a Sunday brunch, and it was... quite good! The service was okay, except that they never checked on us and we had to ask for our coffee refill. I did, however, appreciate that they set each table up with glasses of water and a full carafe from the get-go. I LOVE my water. The food was quite tasty. The toast was a little burned so I couldn't eat the crusts, but the jam that I got to put on it was was delicious (and smelled that way, too). The benedict was unlike any I've had before and I think had a mushroomy sauce on it. Interesting. The rosemary potatoes that came with my guy's meal were quite lovely. I love little touches like that (and I prefer red or fingerling potatoes over most hashbrowns). Over all a good experience. Anyways, came here for a late brunch/lunch, We weren't really feeling breakfast-y so we stuck with the lunch items on the menu. Good looking menu, a lot of options for brunch, nice looking pancake selections, good looking salads and sandwiches too. Since it was more of a lunch day.....we decided to get the Bread Salad: tasty salad with grilled bread chunks, fresh mozz, with a bunch of greens and a delicious balsamic vinaigrette. Freshly put together and would get this again. Perfect amount of dressing and tossed ever so lightly so the bread doesnt get all soggy. We also got the Grilled Chicken Sandwich: Toasted buttery bread with roasted red peppers and pesto, a good amount of chicken, melty cheese served with sweet potato fries. Pretty tasty!!! Both the salad and sandwich were of good size, plenty for us to split so we can have a little of both. Service was fine, it wasnt busy in there at all so we got a lot of attention. Staff was friendly to chat with as well. The restaurant itself is pretty medium size so I dont think it's good for large groups. I have eaten here (all for brunch) multiple times and every time this place was crowded (forget weekends...you will mostly have to wait a long line for it as it is one of the more well known brunch places in Cap Hill!). I'm also surprised I hadn't written a review on this place at all. My latest adventure, however, was on a morning weekday 30-45 minutes after they opened. Even then, the place was already filling up and by the time we left (around 10:30am), most of the tables were taken! Their brunch portion was quite big and satisfying. My latest adventure was there special of blended spinach/mushroom with poached eggs and my SO had corned beef hash. He thought the corned beef was ok and the poached eggs on top were just slightly overcooked. Waiter/waitress were quite helpful (although they seemed busy) though. What we both like though was the smoked habernaro sauce and raspberry jam/ketchup that they have on the table to help ourselves to our own liking. I'd say if you are looking for a place to gather with friends for brunch and has room to eat, this is a place to go! We arrived around 10:45am and luckily did not have to wait too long, maybe around 20 minutes or so? I'm sure we just got lucky with the short wait so I would recommend coming as early as you can. We got seated and asked for our drink orders pretty quickly. We ordered the French toast and chicken fried steak. The food took a while to arrive but the restaurant was pretty busy. Both dishes were really good! The French toast was light and fluffy inside but sweet and crispy on the outside. And it came with real maple syrup and blue berries on top. My friend and I visited Americana late on a Saturday afternoon for brunch. We were seated quickly, however keep in mind it was close to 2pm which is far past the general brunch rush. I ordered a lavender mimosa which arrived promptly, however there were clearly greasy fingerprint marks on the glass, leading me to believe it either hadn't been washed, or the server handling it had dirty fingers (gross). I also noticed throughout the meal that my mimosa was poured much smaller than the other full glasses I saw leaving the bar :( My friend ordered a smoothie which I watched sail by our table a few minutes later with a waitress who had to circle back to the kitchen and ask where it was going after she attempted to deliver it to the wrong table. I got the eggs Benedict which was an interesting take with a tomato sauce rather than hollandaise and a potato cake instead of English muffins. It wasn't bad but the potato cake probably could have been a bit crispier. My friend got the pancake special of the day which he seemed to enjoy. Walked past here during the weekend and saw a line out the door, so I decided to go for brunch during the week. I am glad that I took the plunge today. I walked in and was greeted right away. The waiter gave me the pick of the tables so that I could sit in the spot that I wanted. I enjoy people watching, and seeing the food that comes out of the kitchen, so I sat close to the center of the restaurant. Very casual and good vibe here. Nice music in the background and everyone working here seem to enjoy themselves. Plus, the restaurant was a buzz with lively conversation while people were eating at the table next to me. Vincent brought over my coffee (free refills) which was a nice deep roast and I ordered the omelet and asked for the salmon inside. The plate came out with an abundance of roasted potatoes and, wedges of orange and grapefruit, and two toasted slices of bread. The omelet was very flavorful with the caramelized onions and cheese. With the salmon, it elevated the flavor and I did not need to add anything it as it was perfectly seasoned. He was very attentive, checked in to fill up my cup of coffee and check to see how I was enjoying my food. Definitely stop by this gem of a restaurant for good meal and feel fulfilled. Yo, the orange juice is 6.50 here. That is all, it's overpriced, in my opinion. The food's alright overall, I had a lamb burger, and my date had corn beef hash that she found middling. Cute café, had the Americana Benedict and lavender mimosa. Both were good, the Benedict is different, potatoes pancake (hash brown like) instead of English muffin and a red sauce instead of hollandaise, I think there was bacon involved too; the dish was really flavorful! Our server was even better, friendly with good customer service. Will be back to try their specialty pancakes and other mimosa types! I am not sure if they do reservations, when we walked it, they had us sit wherever a table was open, so I think it's super café style; since it's small I saw a few folks come and leave due to no tables being open. read more
