$2.99 Chicago Dog
Shirley K.

We came here to store our luggage through Bounce, a service that partners with locations that watch your bags for $5.90 per bag / day. They are open 24/7 and located right by the blue line which made it super convenient for our late flight. The people who work there were also super friendly. It being our last day in Chicago, I still had yet to mark eating a Chicago style Hot Dog off my list. I didn't understand the hype about it...figured it was just a plain hot dog that you can make at home. Tomatoes, onions, relish, mustard, and chili. Wasn't sure why places charge so much for such a simple item. (Still not sure why since Americana Submarine obviously doesn't charge much for it). I saw that it was only $2.99 for their Chicago dog and we were already here to drop off our luggage, so why not? I bought it, I ate it, and now I want to always eat my hot dogs this way. I will skip the ketchup! The beef hot dog was delicious and the fresh ingredients gave it texture. The unnaturally green relish was less sweet and less tart than traditional relish and the pepper was also not as spicy or acidic. Obviously I bought two more when I went back for my luggage. I'm glad I did since I got to enjoy them at the airport and am now writing this review because my flight is delayed. If you're ever in the windy city and you want to try a local favorite, try this cheap, delicious, quick eat! I find it rare to come across something that ticks all 3 boxes for me. Oh, and maybe pick up some mints from them while you're there to avoid onion breath all day. Thanks Americana Submarine for making my first Chicago Dog experience a magnificent one!

There's a 4% additional fee if you're paying with a credit or debit card. I got the pastrami for $5.39. It's the junior size which is 6 inched sub. It was a great size for what you get. Honestly, if you're looking for a sub that will fill you up, go to this place. The pastrami was like any basic subs I've had. It had peppers and sauce in it. I had a sub from a different place a couple days prior and was upset that there weren't enough peppers even though i had to pay extra for it. This place was generous with it and it was perfect. It's also very generous with its meat and toppings. It's like being in a bodega in NYC. It's a neighborhood store and it's one of those divey places you have to try. It's open 24/7. The guy that ran it was really nice. He was quick and friendly. No gimmicks. Just a really good person and service.

Assortment of inventory, everything you need.

Roast beef sandwich is great. Turkey sub is great. I think there open 24/7. Americana Submarine is an absolute hidden gem and Chicago Staple. I highly recommend it, especially if you need more than j

Small spot you could casually pick up food and walk to if you're around downtown. Lots of cheese and sauce with a beautiful baguette to remind you that this place makes pizza too. Dough, cheese, and sauce are what this place really excels in. It's no surprise that they do it well across the board. Out of the sandwiches I tried, the gardinera pairs the best with the Drunken Chicken sandwich. I'm unsure if my hunger pangs were amplifying my experience, but this sandwich was something of legends... The ingredients combo into something a little too unfair to not be distributed to the rest of America. The food really feels special when you have it late night after a really long day of fun. The people are casual and nice and didn't make it awkward to eat there even though the place itself is quite small. Considering cops came in to order here out of all the places around, I can see how anyone could make this their staple spot.

It is shareable and hearty. The bread is so good. It's crusty and soft on the inside. It allows the right amount of sauce to soak in without being a giant mess. I don't consider it a save half and eat later sandwich though. In my experience it loses a bit of structure if not eaten right away. I have had the turkey, tuna, and meatball sandwich as well. All good and able to split into 2 meals and they save well. As mentioned, this spot is on repeat for me and haven't disliked anything. The pizza is ok but I wouldn't choose it as my pizza spot. There are better but if you are in a pinch a single slice option is nice. I enjoy the little Tiramisu cup. Perfect size. If you normally scroll by and wonder if you should try Nonna's go ahead. It's a good option.

Recently got to try JP Graziano after searching google "whats the best sandwich in Chicago." lolol…read moreI came across a reddit forum and JP Graziano was at the top of everyones recommendations. My friends and I just want to enjoy our Chicago summer and decided to go to the beach so naturally my mind went to sandwiches and immediately thought "this is my opportunity to go to JP Graziano" Ordered the Italian and the Mr. G and it was seriously the perfect beach sandwich. Me and my sister split each one to try and genuinely the Mr G is something ive never had before in a sandwich and it was amazing. The Italian is also delicious and is giving your classic Italian sub sandwich. But the Mr. G is what Im ordering again! I heard the bread is supplied by Damatos Bakery so thats definitely a plus! The atmosphere inside is so cool. It is very Italian/chicago vibes. Long line but it goes by very quickly. The staff there is working hard and fast and the owner himself is very nice. Definitely worth a trip for the sandwich. Id like to try their cannolis next time!

The meat portion was very generous; the beef was thinly sliced but juicy and not dry or hard at all; the sausage had a rich smoky flavor, not too salty, and tastes a lot like Harbin red sausage. Al's Classic Hand-Cut Fries: They were piping hot when I received them, so touching! Super friendly lady at the cashier (all smiles, patient, and offered menu help)! Also fast service (got my order within a few minutes). I visited on a Saturday late afternoon and it was very chill here (also shoutout to the early 2000's era music playing :p it was a vibe). Overall I'd say it's not a bad food spot at all if you want a quick bite and want to be a little away from the Magnificent Mile crowds.

We were quoted a time of 20 minutes out. We arrived a little early and the gal at the counter told us it would be a few minutes. She called out when ready and sat at one of the tables in the front to eat. Each sub had a decent amount of filling. While we each offered the smallest subs, we were plenty full when we left. We enjoyed our subs and now have a place to add to our list for a new quick lunch. For the store itself, they have some odds and ends but many Italian staples. The counter and deli had a steady flow of customers in and out.

As I parked this large Chevy Suburban parked in front of me. As I sat in the car & saw one person after another unloaded & head towards Potbelly. I decided to cross over & check out this old world Italian Deli. Conti Di Savoia is small Italian grocery store w/an Italian deli that has w/outstanding & inexpensive sandwiches. When I went in there was a line of people waiting @ the deli counter waiting to place their order. I must have looked confused because the owner directed me & told the line started on the other side towards the back of the store. What I found was an awesome of fresh handmade sandwiches for a very reasonable price. I ordered an 8" pastrami w/mozzarella cheese, shredded lettuce, tomato, red onions, mayo, & Italian oil drizzled. What I got was an awesome inexpensive sandwich loaded with/fresh ingredients. Absolutely delicious. After I got my sandwich the owner (I introduced myself (I think his name was Mike) rang up the sandwich. He said they have been there for 35 years. There's also a small dining area in the front of the store where I sat & devoured my sandwich. Like I said this is small Italian store w/a nice selection of products like meats, cheeses, pastas, wine, olive & deli items. I throughly enjoyed finding Conte Di Savoia. The pastrami sandwich was awesome w/a generous portion of pastrami & toppings for a reasonable price. I'm the type of person who who loves finding new places to eat. Most times unless I find great food & reasonable prices I won't go back but I feel like I found a real gem W/Conti Di Savoia. I WILL DEFINITELY BE BACK AGAIN.
