    $2.99 Chicago Dog
    Shirley K.

We came here to store our luggage through Bounce, a service that partners with locations that watch your bags for $5.90 per bag / day. They are open 24/7 and located right by the blue line which made it super convenient for our late flight. The people who work there were also super friendly. It being our last day in Chicago, I still had yet to mark eating a Chicago style Hot Dog off my list. I didn't understand the hype about it...figured it was just a plain hot dog that you can make at home. Tomatoes, onions, relish, mustard, and chili. Wasn't sure why places charge so much for such a simple item. (Still not sure why since Americana Submarine obviously doesn't charge much for it). I saw that it was only $2.99 for their Chicago dog and we were already here to drop off our luggage, so why not? I bought it, I ate it, and now I want to always eat my hot dogs this way. I will skip the ketchup! The beef hot dog was delicious and the fresh ingredients gave it texture. The unnaturally green relish was less sweet and less tart than traditional relish and the pepper was also not as spicy or acidic. Obviously I bought two more when I went back for my luggage. I'm glad I did since I got to enjoy them at the airport and am now writing this review because my flight is delayed. If you're ever in the windy city and you want to try a local favorite, try this cheap, delicious, quick eat! I find it rare to come across something that ticks all 3 boxes for me. Oh, and maybe pick up some mints from them while you're there to avoid onion breath all day. Thanks Americana Submarine for making my first Chicago Dog experience a magnificent one!

There's a 4% additional fee if you're paying with a credit or debit card. I got the pastrami for $5.39. It's the junior size which is 6 inched sub. It was a great size for what you get. Honestly, if you're looking for a sub that will fill you up, go to this place. The pastrami was like any basic subs I've had. It had peppers and sauce in it. I had a sub from a different place a couple days prior and was upset that there weren't enough peppers even though i had to pay extra for it. This place was generous with it and it was perfect. It's also very generous with its meat and toppings. It's like being in a bodega in NYC. It's a neighborhood store and it's one of those divey places you have to try. It's open 24/7. The guy that ran it was really nice. He was quick and friendly. No gimmicks. Just a really good person and service.

Assortment of inventory, everything you need.

Roast beef sandwich is great. Turkey sub is great. I think there open 24/7. Americana Submarine is an absolute hidden gem and Chicago Staple. I highly recommend it, especially if you need more than j

Overall we enjoyed the food and experience. The hotdogs are good and my son finished 2 - I tried a few bites but I also loved my pasta - huge service for the price and I get to share it with my son as well. The chocolate cake is not too sweet but really decadent. Must try if you're visiting and staying in the River North area.

It has that classic late night comfort food vibe and feels like one of those staple spots you have to try at least once. First night I ordered a polish hot dog with everything on it and a fish sandwich w/ extra grilled onions. Super cool that your order comes with fries and I added a cheese cup both times. In my opinion the fries were mid the first go around, but second time they were better. Definitely tasted better dipped in cheese. They were kinda airy in texture, if that makes sense. Polish hot dog was around a 6.5-7/10 for me. It did taste better warmed up the next day. What I was most obsessed with was the double cheeseburger and fish sandwich! both were easily a 10/10. Super good prices and worth the money. Also, the chile peppers were sooo bomb and hotter than I expected ! I wanted to eat them all, but they were packing some serious heat! The lemon Italian ice is where it's at, make sure to order one! You can also mix it with strawberry, but both times people recommended the lemon and now I see why. The line gets super active and busy past 10-11pm, but during the daytime it's way less crowded. Even when it gets packed the line moves pretty quick. They stay open late and close at 1am which is nice.

Both were nice and hot. Fries were crispy and that first snap into the juicy sausage was worth the trip. No seating, so be prepared to eat in your car and get a bit messy. Also be warned the peppers are legitimately spicy, those serranos had my partner sweating. Glad I tried it, but not something I'd eat all the time, great late night drinking kind of food.

It was almost 11pm (they're open until 2am on Fridays.) and there were at least a dozen other vehicles in their drive-in stalls. Ordered their specialties, a Superdawg and Whoopskidawg with Superfries, Chocolate Super Malt and Black Kows. Service was fast and friendly at 11pm on a Friday. We were eating in our rental car in apx 10 min. It was cool to eat outside on a warm July night in a classic, 1950s style drive-in. The food was excellent, flavorful and fresh. I normally avoid krinkle cut fries because they are usually frozen and mushy or mealy. Not Superfries. These fresh cut fries were practically fried mashed potatoes. We loved them! The drinks were perfect. The Black Kows is basically a root beer float and served with an extra root beer "sidecar." Our only complaints were about errors with the garnishes. We specifically said we wanted all the garnishes on both dawgs and they only gave us the standard grilled onions on the Whoopskidawg and forgot the sport peppers on the Superdawg. Otherwise we loved everything. We might go back next week (before we fly home) because I really want to try their Whoopercheesie Burger and maybe a Supersundae. But I had to see what the hype around Gene & Jude's was all about. I caught them at a great time with a short line. Their menu is delightfully simple and typical classic Chicago style with minimalist topping choices (mustard, relish, onion, sport peppers) so ordering was a breeze. A single dog with fries and a medium drink came out to about $9. While waiting, I loved watching their team work like a well-oiled machine behind the counter. Fresh hand-cut potatoes were dropping into the fryer, and the assembly crew was constantly building dogs and piling massive heaps of steaming fries on top. High output, fantastic energy! I even asked one of the prep guys if I could snap a picture, and he was super cool about it. The meal itself was awesome. The fries were piping hot, perfectly salted, and very generous in portion. Once I dug down to the dog, that first bite took me by complete surprise, the snap of the natural casing and the flavor were incredible. Before I knew it, I was clearing the paper wrapper and completely understanding why people order double dogs or multiple single dogs. Be warned it will have your back talking to you too. Lol!
