I was getting off of work around 10pm and on my way home I took a detour to find a 7/11 I ended up finding this little gem, I ordered me and my fiance a hot pastrami with jalapeno peppers IT WAS DELICIOUS for the place to be small with little options it was a hit and i live close so its my new spot! If i could give this place zero stars I would, the worst place you can ever go to, do not waste your valuable lunch time on this place. First thing, I ordered a hot dog with chili chips and a pop. I paid for it all in food app, I come in and dude is barely opening up the place at 12, was supped to be open 30 min earlier. Hot place, running three fans,over nukes the chilli and gives me a hotdog with hard bread. I asked for the chips and drink and the guy laughed saying I did not pay for it. We came here to store our luggage through Bounce, a service that partners with locations that watch your bags for $5.90 per bag / day. They are open 24/7 and located right by the blue line which made it super convenient for our late flight. The people who work there were also super friendly. It being our last day in Chicago, I still had yet to mark eating a Chicago style Hot Dog off my list. I didn't understand the hype about it...figured it was just a plain hot dog that you can make at home. Tomatoes, onions, relish, mustard, and chili. Wasn't sure why places charge so much for such a simple item. (Still not sure why since Americana Submarine obviously doesn't charge much for it). I saw that it was only $2.99 for their Chicago dog and we were already here to drop off our luggage, so why not? I bought it, I ate it, and now I want to always eat my hot dogs this way. I will skip the ketchup! The beef hot dog was delicious and the fresh ingredients gave it texture. The unnaturally green relish was less sweet and less tart than traditional relish and the pepper was also not as spicy or acidic. Obviously I bought two more when I went back for my luggage. I'm glad I did since I got to enjoy them at the airport and am now writing this review because my flight is delayed. If you're ever in the windy city and you want to try a local favorite, try this cheap, delicious, quick eat! I find it rare to come across something that ticks all 3 boxes for me. Sandwiches are great! I don't come in area that often so I always order my favorite ... the Bomber. Did not disappoint! The sandwich prep is inside a convenience store ... so it's take out only. It doesn't even look like they make subs here actually, it looks a little scary. It just looks like someone didn't bother to take down the HUGE sign above the store. Honestly, if you're looking for a sub that will fill you up, go to this place. The pastrami was like any basic subs I've had. It had peppers and sauce in it. I had a sub from a different place a couple days prior and was upset that there weren't enough peppers even though i had to pay extra for it. This place was generous with it and it was perfect. Not ever again! Ordered through Door Dash at 10PM on 12/14/2021, All 3 sandwiches were made incorrectly, either missing double meat or avocado. All were missing pickles and all had onions, when asked to not have them on the sandwiches. I never thought much of it as it looks like a normal convenience that sells juices, candy and chips among other normal convenience store things. I was wrong as its not just a convenience store; they also have pretty good sandwiches here. This is one of those places you pass by every day and don't go in because it looks a little sketchy at first glance. I was really craving a good sub sandwich from a stand-alone (non-franchised) store so I decided to give it a shot. Inside, they have everything from souvenirs to cookies to snacks, drinks, and (of course) subs! I think they also were holding bags for customers and letting them charge their phones which is incredible to find these days! There is a wide variety of both hot and cold subs. They also have a sub of the day with special discounted pricing! The subs are PACKED with meat, I'd say probably 2-3 times that of the commercial chains. Prices are: 6'' = 5.39 12" = 8.29 Double meat = 10.59 I got the ham/turkey (DOUBLE MEAT!) which is pretty basic but tasted incredible and everything was fresh. For toppings, they asked if I wanted everything, which includes lettuce, tomato, onion, mayo, American cheese, and spices. They also asked if I wanted peppers which I opted out of. It may seem like a small convenience store, but it's a lovely small business with awesome subs. Ok I've tried this place twice now, and it's really just left me with a gross taste in my mouth. Americana Sub is a mini mart/sub place, which basically means you can spice up your sub combo meal by adding Swisher Sweets and condoms instead of the boring old chips and a drink. The first sandwich I had was the Bomber, which was ham, salami (I think), and some kind of mystery meat, which scared me. Maybe not the best choice, so next time I went back I went with a standard turkey sandwich. I honestly could only put down half of the footlong sub before tossing away the rest. This sub shop convenience store, in my opinion, stays open because of the ploy it uses to get people in the door. The fact that it's open late night and nothing else does is how it stays afloat. I really wanted to like this place but I don't. Or I got the wrong type of sandwich. I poured over the menu before I went. I decided on the hot barbecue beef. I envisioned slow roasted barbecue marinated beef on a toasted baguette. What I got was deli-style sliced beef with barbecue sauce. As for hot - it was microwaved. This is a place I would normally ignore in downtown Chicago, since there are so many options. However my circumstance lead me to this little corner eatery. I have to say I was plesently surprised with with my Bomber sub sandwich. They have 3 different sizes you can order 4",6" & 12" and everything was fresh and tasty and reasonably priced. They not only sell sandwiches but the sell some sundries as well and they are open 24 hours in an area that needs something like that. Also all the staff are great. Mohammed(the owner) was very sweet and friendly along with José and Arned. Mohammed has shared with me that this establishment have been here many many years and he has owned the store for 12 of them. Anyway this is a small place and most of the customers take to go. If I could give this place less than 1 star, I totally would. I've literally contemplated calling health inspection on Americana Submarine. The night I moved out of my Columbia College dorm, my fiancee and I decided that we should go to Americana Submarine because we were hungry and there wasn't much else around. What a mistake. First off, our initial sight is a bunch of meat, bread, condiments (especially mayo) all sitting out, Subway style. The only difference is...Subway usually follows health code. There were flies everywhere and the mayo had this strange hard greenish yellow coating on the top of it because it hadn't been refrigerated for at least several hours. So we're waiting in line and there is one guy making everyone's food. I would usually cut someone like him some slack because that seems like a lot of work for just one person, however, this man was the meanest unhappiest thing I think I've ever encountered in my life. At one point, I asked him why we get a can of pop, when the menu shows we get a fountain drink with the meal. He literally said "Just fucking take the drink." When I replied with "Sir, can't you just answer my question?" he said "Because we ran out of fucking cups you retard." Hmm, so we get out sandwiches...mine was a simple turkey with cheese and my fiancee's was a BBQ Beef which turned out to just be roast beef with barbecue sauce squirted on it - not toasted, but microwaved. We're eating...and its absolutely disgusting. 14 dollars later, we bring the other halves home and our dog gets into the bag and literally tries to eat both. Good thing we stopped him, first. Wow.
