What a surprise... humble signage, tucked in to a humble shopping center and followed by a humble cashier who was indeed the owner and smoker of said amazing brisket! The smell drew me in but is not always a sign of a well smoked brisket. I was also put off at first by the $30/lb brisket ....however. After talking to the cashier, haven't being sold on a plate yet, he uses mesquite, truly smokes it and it's not a traeger or cheater pellet smoker. Smoker for view "out back"! Mesquite wood from southwest! Being a West Texas Native it peaked my curiosity. It's so hard to smoke with mesquite. It burns hot, can be bitter if not seasoned before burning, and takes time working with it. It is a penetrating smoke and can absolutely be over smoked easily. I had the $14.99 brisket plate. About 7 thick cut slices that come with mustard tater salad, onions and pickles, True CHARRO beans (soap salad on top for you weird cilantro haterzs), and a fountain drink. Beans in a separate container so it doesn't contaminate everything else. ***A surprisingly good value compared to the WAY OVERPRICED AND OVER PROUD smokers in the Austin area.**** Lord have mercy.... I inspected the delectable sliced morsels... thick cut, glistening with brisklet juice (grease), bark, good smoke ring. I picked it up expecting it to fall apart...I pulled at it and still didn't really fall apart. I thought, "ok, a little firm?..." oh hell no! I bit in and it literally melted in my mouth. Brisket and smoke and flavors...consistency to perfection! Bark was black and good, but not hard for you bark snobs. It wasn't wet, so not a boiled brisket. It had a smoke ring so my guess is maybe it was finished wrapped. The smoke ring on my slices was visible but not really past maybe 1/2 inch? ... could just be where my slices were in relation to the smoke flow...but, it was NOT without flavor throughout. Hard core brisket aficionados, this brisket sets the bar. It's not the best I've ever had, but it's absolutely the expectation for a good representation of what Texas Brisket should be. Anything less is a waste of protein, anything better is a work of art. Consistency is King, and this was a fast 1st run. Updates to follow for sure. Came here yesterday and had a few breakfast tacos and a coffee, so I can't speak for their plates and other breakfast options. For the breakfast tacos, this is a high-value establishment. Breakfast taco prices range from $2.45-$2.95. I had a bacon & egg taco and a chorizo & egg. Both were LARGE. Almost a burrito size. I appreciate this. Coffee was a bit weak, but not bad. My only request is that the breakfast tacos come with a creamy jalapeño green sauce by default. I am not sure if they offer this. The tacos come with a red salsa that is great. From the outside, Amigo's looks unassuming, nestled as it is into a small strip mall. Inside, it's another story. The staff is very friendly, and the placed was packed, seemingly all with regulars. Everyone knew everyone else by name, and it felt like a big family. The food is shockingly good. I didn't expect to get some of the best BBQ I've had in Austin here, but i did. Both the ribs and hot links were excellent. The ribs were full of flavor, and I didn't even need to use BBQ sauce. I still used some, and was surprised by it, too. It has a hint of Mexico in its flavor, with some cayenne in there, along with who knows what else? I don't rave about BBQ often, as there are so many good options in Austin, but this place is up near the top. read more

During winter months Amigos occasionally does a chicken n dumplings special. My wifey wanted to try them so we came here for lunch. She rated the chicken n dumplings as some of the best that she has ever had. Tasty homemade thin dumplings w/a thin succulent broth loaded with juicy fresh shredded chicken & also carrots. Also had a large thick slice of cornbread on the side. She'd give them more stars if Yelp allowed a 10 star review! I had and loved the tender carne guisada plate. Came w/tortillas, rice and beans. HUGE Breakfast tacos! When I dream about breakfast tacos these are the size of tacos that I think about. I'm a big boy and 2 of these tacos will fill me up. My favorite breakfast tacos are the bean/cheese/bacon and the pulled pork. You can't go wrong with any taco they have, they are very filling and worth the price. When you start adding on extra ingredients the tacos can get a little pricey. I also like to get their migas plate. Its simple they fry the corn tortillas and let them get crunchy and then add the eggs so you have a little crunch when you bite into it. I used to be able to stop in for lunch when i worked in the area. I usually ended up getting whatever the special was and it never let me down. One of my favorites seemed to be served on fridays was this fajita type meat in a ranchero sauce. It was the perfect amount of spice and flavor, served with rice, beans, and tortillas and was usually around $8-$9 with a drink. read more

I honestly feel catfished. I've seen so many reviews raving about this place on Yelp and other sites. Since this is during COVID-19 pandemic, I noticed one cook had his mask below his chin the entire time I waited for my order. They don't seem to prioritize social distancing either, as the tables were all available in the small dining room and they had BBQ sauce and ketchup bottles out for communal use. I've seen people recommend their tacos, which surprises me as the tortillas I received were clearly store bought - both flour and corn. I got both and neither were good. Now for the BBQ, the most disappointing part. See the included pictures for specifics, but in general: - brisket was underseasoned and poorly trimmed. I asked for one pound of brisket and received at least 1/3 pound of fat (see photo). I also assume it was undercooked based on the toughness and lack of smoke ring (I worked in a BBQ restaurant during college). - barbacoa should have been cleaned better. A huge chunk of fat that should have been removed was included (see photo). I understand what barbacoa is, I grew up in the Rio Grande Valley. This was lower quality than a sketchy stand at the flea market. They at least have good salsas there. Probably the most passable thing we got. - pulled pork was mediocre at best and pretty dry. Also had a huge piece of fat (see photo) - chicken was mediocre as well. I was hoping for RGV-BBQ chicken, but got generic "dad overcooked the chicken, but don't say anything he's already mad" chicken. - sausage was fine, probably because they didn't make it. It was dry though, which indicates it had been sitting in a proofer (steam oven) or on the line for a while. - bbq sauce tasted like Sweet Baby Rays, which isn't bad, just not redeeming enough for the poor quality of the meats. Picking up cooked brisket from Walmart and a bottle of Sweet Baby Rays would have been a better choice than eating here. I will never go back here based on their treatment during COVID-19 and the poor quality of the food. I hope you don't try it either, because it certainly isn't worth your money. read more

Great breakfast taco shop, although the name is BBQ grill. I love the bean and cheese when I am not feeling meat early in the morning. My next go to taco us the spicy potatoe, bacon and cheese. Just amazing. Their home made sauce is wonderful. If they every start selling it, I will be first in line. I don't like putting picante type tasting sauce on my taco. I have only eaten here once, but it is good. A lot of ex-military and also a lot of people that were going to compete or taking food to their teams at the Pflugerville chili fest were here. This is a true joint. They have a kind of spicy potato that they have with their food. I had a potato and bacon taco and a chopped brisket taco. Sat outside and had a good time chatting with folks. There are very few tables inside and they were all full. Not bad, not bad at all. Will be going back to check out more food. read more

I called the manager to complain about it after I got home and saw what we got , and he offered to remake it. I said it was too far to go back and just credit my card. He said he would, but didn't. Hands down the best Steak Ranchero I've ever had. Unfortunately they only serve it on Fridays. I used to work in Cedar Park and I would drive all the way to Pflugerville on Friday just to have it for lunch. I haven't had any issues with the owners being unfriendly, as others have mentioned, even when I first started eating here and was a relatively new customer. I'll keep showing up on Fridays. I ordered a chorizo egg and cheese taco that came out looking like a can of dog food in a tortilla and a chicken fajita taco. The chicken fajita taco was dry (really could use some cilantro and onions and a lime) and the chicken was flavorless. My kids ordered a bacon egg and cheese taco and a potatoes and bacon taco. The bacon pieces were hard (almost like jerky) and the potatoes seemed like the frozen store bought home fries. The tortilla was the only thing that seemed fresh. This is one of my all time favorite restaurants. Their CARNE GUISADA is the absolute best I have ever had by miles! The owners and their chef/cook have been there every time I have eaten there for the last 15 years. I have been told their carne guisada recipe is a secret, but that it is regional to the valley. What I love is that it is peppery and spicy but it doesn't seem to have chili or the easy canned red sauce so often used to make the dish. I honestly have never had better. LOVE the carne guisada tacos. Rich, thick gravy and tender beef. The tortillas taste homemade. Add a little cheese on top and you have heaven in a taco. Their standard bacon, egg, and cheese breakfast tacos are amazing. As are the brisket tacos. We've been going here for more than 5 years now. I'm really sorry that we won't be patronizing this establishment anymore because of them embracing open-carry. I don't want to eat breakfast, no matter how tasty it is, surrounded by idiots pretending they're Wyatt Earp. I see them acting friendlier with some of their older regulars, but I'd honestly rather patronize Dairy Queen where at least the paid employees are nicer and classier than these people. Tried this with an UrbanDealight coupon and was very disappointed. First of all, their BBQ is EXPENSIVE. We couldn't figure out why everyone was ordering the burgers there but once we ate the BBQ, we figured it out. The brisket was tasteless and dry and had a lot of fat on it. The sausage tasted ok but the skin was SUPER tough. Their BBQ sauce was pretty good, though. We got the 3 meat plate which came with 2 sides and some tortillas or bread. One side was small scoop of potato salad we saw them dishing up from a big tub clearly marked potato salad (Sam's Club, anyone???). The other was french fries, which were ok but pretty salty. The iced tea was gross and tasted like tea grounds. We also ordered a breakfast taco to try and it was ok. Nothing amazingly memorable. The flour tortillas tasted pretty doughy. Service was friendly but the food was not worth going back, especially at $19 for one 3 meat plate, 1 drink, and 1 breakfast taco. read more

I've been getting breakfast Taco's from Amigo's since they opened a few years ago and still keep coming back for more! The tacos are nice and large size and never dissapointing. The usual variety of bacon, potato, sausage, etc is available as well as some unique offering such as the spicy potato, which I love with eggs. You can ask for any option and they will make it, adds some additional cost to your taco, but so worth it. You can also save time in the morning by calling ahead and your order will be ready when you walk in the door. The homemade salsa is another favorite here. Excellent favor and not overpowered by spice, but definately has a kick to it. This stuff alone makes it woth the visit, so much better the regular boring pecante you get everywhere else. Unfortunately I don't get to eat lunch here very often as I work too far away now. They offer a daily lunch specal as well as small varity of BBQ plates and Mexican food to chose from. An odd mix at first, but they do it so well. I highy recommend the botana platters, they are huge portions and definately hit the spot when you're hungry. My only complaint is that I wish they were open a little later so I could enjoy picking up some of their food on the way home for dinner. read more

We have lived in Pflugerville for over 15 years and somehow we had never heard of this place. We decided to give it a try today and boy are we glad we did! Best BBQ we have had in a long time. This place is way more than just BBQ. They have lunch specials and breakfast also. Fantastic huevous ranchero!! The food was amazing and the family that owns it are super friendly and welcoming. Decent, fast Mexican food and barbecue. Generous portions and everything seems to be made fresh. You can order BBQ by the pound and there is lots to choose from. The beans are very good. Yes, this strip mall is part of the melting pot that America stands for, not eating at any of these establishments only shows how much you hate America. I was wondering if there was any Q' in PF'ville and my GPS brought me here today for a brisket plate with sides. I walked in and it smelled great, not like BBQ, but like fresh food. They have 3-4 meats to pick from Brisket, Sausage, chicken and maybe one more but now that I think of it, maybe they only have 3. I got the Mexican Rice and corn with my brisket and 2 fresh tortillas. Everything came out piping hot, which was great and the sauce even came is a syrup pitcher like you would use for pancakes. The corn was fresh and flavorful, the tortillas were fresh and i really liked the Mexican rice. I stuffed a few tortillas with brisket and rice and dipped them in their sauce and it was fantastic. I usually don't care for BBQ sauce, but I really liked theirs. Normally I'm not a fan of the thicker sweeter BBQ sauces but theirs looked like a Mole sauce but didn't taste like it. As I left I realized that may be my favorite BBQ sauce I've had, I wish they would bottle and sell it. My only ding was the brisket itself. It was a little on the dry side and I assume came off a gas or electric smoker as no firepit was visible. I got a health portion of brisket which included lean and fatty sections. The sauce did help fix any brisket issues but I was left wishing they used a firepit for more smoke flavor in their brisket. I would come back again for sure. read more

Their tacos are big and have usually been delicious. And the cheese has always been melted. This morning I ordered my go-to taco order and within 3 minutes of having received them opened the bag. No salsa and wasn't given the option. Ok, I can get past that- people forget sometimes. It's cool. I open the first taco and the eggs and potatoes are cold and the cheese is still in perfect shredded form. It was like they had the eggs and potatoes already prepared in tins and pulled the cheese from the fridge and tossed it in. I drove from my office back up there (which I'm totally not the type to do) because the effort and tacos were THAT bad. The lady's reaction? "The cheese never melts". Hahahahahahaha. Ok.
