Ok so I've been to Amigo's a few times. My husband, son and I met for dinner last Saturday evening. The place was hopping and the staff very friendly. Our server who was friendly as can be came over to take our order. As we started to give her our order we noticed she wasn't writing anything down. Hmmmmmm. We asked her, you sure you can remember all that?? Since we always have "no this, extra that, double that, etc. we were impressed by her total confidence in a great memory So our food came pretty quick. Two out of three were right. My husband's order was totally incorrect. Our doubts were justified. So that being said, my son and I ended up eating without him. It didn't make us upset and cranky because we understand. People make mistakes whether hers or the kitchen. It probably would've been a great idea that she write down future orders next time. Maybe she doesn't usually get things incorrect, but we could've also been a group that could've gotten really upset. Why take a chance right? We had two burritos with rice and refried beans. The food lacked spice and flavor in general, but it was the absolute lack of cumin that surprised us. Perhaps a bad day for the cook, but the taste was not Mexican at all. read more

Hmmmm, we've been here a few times, the service is terrible! The two waitresses were acting like teenagers, because that's what they were! When we arrived we were the only two people in the restaurant, it was 4 PM, late lunch, we ordered a Margarita, came very late, the one waitress, was an African American girl, it looked like she was absolutely clueless and was hitting another waiter playing around but beating him up, the entire time playing around, then came to our table finally! They took forever to just bring chips, so here is the evidence, they just wouldn't come to our table, their chit chatting was first, they acted as if there were no customers in the whole restaurant and it was disheartening the food came so late. We were out of drinks margarita glass was always empty, we ordered another drink,it never came to our table, . I ordered a carne asada plate was good, but the tortillas came all in broken pieces, I wasn't happy about it, I told waitress, then we were done, I asked waitress where was my drink twice, she forgot to order it! They were at counter eating. We ordered a dessert, it came out and was ugly bumpy and crooked flan, I give them a 1 star, because this should never happen, leave patrons with empty glasses during the whole dinner meal! We won't be coming back either, she also forgot to order my queso shrimp appetizer it never came! 3 waiters for one couple and restaurant empty? Good food but no Mexican home made salsa just speaks lazy. When they give you that cold salsa that came from a jar. A terrible customer service. We got sat and didn't get no drinks ordered untill waitress came to ask if we had our food choices ready, then I asked for a drink and she was like "oh a drink" like I was wrong for ordering a drink. Then food took like 30 minutes to come out and only two plates came out out of 4 then after checking said some bs excuse that they didn't have beans to complete the dish. And a few other thing too but ... I asked for a bottle opener and waitress just told me oh yeah they in the fridge. Stopped by here before our flight back to the states because it was near the airport and it was disappointing. The service was great, but the food was awful. Most tasteless Mexican food ever! The salsa tasted like tomato sauce. The rice and beans were not good. I played it safe and ordered a bean and cheese burrito and it tasted like it was made from food out of the can. 3 1/2 stars! Not a bad place if you like Mexican food. They have several locations to choose from and a pretty good selection. Different type of meats to choose from when you order burritos and other dishes, plus, they have a coupon in the tourist magazine for half off a second dish, which is basically 25% off each meal, right?! Read as 2.5 stars: We had an early lunch here a day after arriving on the island. We consulted the blue book and since this got an "ONO", we figured we would try it, plus it was close to Costco where we were headed. Seating is outside and there are maybe 8 tables. There is a small salsa bar and a drink machine inside. Daily specials boasted great prices, but the man and I stuck with our plan. I had 2 tacos with black beans and rice and he had a wet burrito with refried beans. The carnitas in one taco was less than average and the tortillas for my tacos seemed a bit stale. My chicken taco was tasty-but still on the same stale-ish tortilla. The one plus side in my meal were the black beans. They were some of the best beans I have ever had-full of flavor and perfectly cooked. The man's wet burrito was big and wet. Full of beans and carne asada. He deemed it tasty, thought the refried beans were less than flavorful. The guy working with us was super friendly and nice. The lunch was fine, but not ONO worthy (like Cilantro). read more

So this used to be one of our go to places for Mexican food where we would come a few times a month (for almost 13 years), until they started their nickel and diming practices. Such poor customer service for restaurants to do this, especially when people have allergies and diet restrictions. For example, if you ask for avocado slices to be substituted for guacamole, expect a $2.00 extra charge. Well today I asked for peppers in place of the beans on my $14 taco salad, it was a $4 additional fee!!! Seriously??? Your going to charge me 1/3 of the cost of the whole meal just to add a few diced peppers that cost about the same as the beans with cheese??? Insane. It is decent Mexican food that we have enjoyed for the last 13 years, but now because of these new greedy practices, no mas. Update to Yencenia's response: NEVER have I made fun of anyone. Shame on you for saying that trying to discredit me and my review to divert attention from the fact of what you're doing. Also my husband and I always tip at least 20% if not more, because the ladies do work hard there. That's ludicrous to say we make fun of people and then turn around and tip them generously. Usually eat her for lunch, but have heard a lot of great things about their breakfast - so here we are to find out what the hype is all about. Always friendly service. Complementary chips and self-serve salsa. Ordered huevos a la mexicana for him and huevos con chorizo for me. Each comes with your option of corn or flour, but make sure you state which - our server Tynetta did not ask and corn is the default. The switch to flour was simple and she was kind about it. *Be mindful that this review is written with very low expectations for Mexican food on Maui. I am NOT comparing it to other mainland mexican food... As a Mexican food aficionado, I was not expecting any good mexican food on Maui, considering all of the wonderful Mexican joints in San Diego that I grew up with. But, I will say, the carnitas soft taco is good when I first experienced it at their taco cart at first Friday in Wailuku. So, after that, I had to check the restaurant and to my surprise, they had a California burrito. Although it cannot compete with Oscar's in Vista, CA, it was very good also. My favorite part about this place is their salsa bar, which includes four different varieties of salsa, jalapenos and even hot carrots! I am no level diez (1O) authentic Mexican food specialist, but growing up in Los Angeles, it's nearly impossible to avoid Mexican restaurants when they are practically on every block--sometimes 2 or 3 are in the same plaza. With that being said, I usually chowed on some south-of-the-border meals at least once a week. I believe to have at least a little sense as to what real mexican food tastes like. This place is very legit. (A little pricey, but c'mon, you should know by now that hawai'i is yo pimp, gotta pay up dawg!) They have a little self-serve salsa bar with about 3 different fresh salsas (mild to hot), spicy pickled onions carrots and chilies, and limes. Save some dough by checking out their daily specials & happy hour. I've never cared much for alcohol, but omg, they have thee tastiest margarita! Blended with salt on the rim is the way to go. It's like a freakin adult slurpee!! Several of the waitresses there are very nice which is a plus. Really solid mexican food, which on Maui is a big thumbs up! If you are a visitor from the mainland that is used to lots of super authentic mexican restaurants you may be disappointed (and come on... you are in Hawaii, eat some local grindz while you are here!) but for Maui residents this is a solid go-to for mexican food! this is the only place I stop for food after landing in Maui. It's convenient and quick and the food is delicious. On my last visit I had the three carne asada taco plate. I like my tacos served simple and this is how its done at Amigos. The meat was juicy and had a great taste. Will definitely be back on my next visit. read more

Came here on vacation because we missed our Mexican food. Super friendly service but the food was just OK. The rice was dry and not very flavorful. The fajitas were the same, not much flavor but the ingredients were superb . Very high quality of meat throughout all menu items. We did like the nachos for an appetizer. Service was great, food was simple and delicious, and the beer is served in these gigantic 24 ounce frozen glasses. Oh sweet frozen glasses. I'm so glad we found this place! I'm from Southern California so I'm extremely picky about Mexican food. My husband is from here so he's not picky at all and will eat anything. This restaurant is soooooo good! They have THE BEST chicken tortilla soup and their chili releno is AMAZING!! We can't wait to continue to come back here. Stopped at Amigo's for Happy Hour (3 pm - 6 pm) to enjoy a $4.99 Margarita (or two) after a hard day living on Maui. ;-) Sometimes "house" margaritas can be iffy but this one was great and for the price it was amazing. My wife had a taco salad and I had some Happy Hour selections including tacos and taquitos for a discount. We were both happy and stuffed. Stopped by for lunch today with my wife and 3 daughters...it was close, Mexican sounded good. Saw the server once to take our order and once to serve food. 30-45 minutes passed before we were able to flag someone down for water, (glasses that had been dry for 20 minutes), and for a check. Food was sub par. Maybe it's because our family is from Arizona and Texas...we appreciate a good Mexican dish. Everyone was friendly enough, which is the only reason I gave 2 stars instead one 1. Let me say that this review is biased. We tried to stick to local Maui style food. We ended up at Amigo's looking for pulled pork tacos. We ended up with a Mexican style pork burrito. It was ok, but I can get that at home, and so judged this meal harshly. The chips did taste stale, and the salsas were ok. Hello me and my sister who live here went to this location the other day the out door hostes greeted and was expentant of good meal . Ordered margaritas and they gave us chips we both were very hungry after eating most of the small order there burnt . So i asked the hostess a can we get and orfer thats not over cooked .... Stopped here for lunch on a recent business trip to Maui. Like the other posters said, the chips were a little stale. The salsa bar was col though, and was tasty it made up for the chips. I had the Carmita's enchiladas. They weren't outstanding and they weren't terrible, I would have to judge them as average which is pretty much Hawaii's Mexican food standards. The black beans were good and made the meal that much better. The staff was really nice and friendly, they definitely go out of their way to make you feel comfortable. read more

We were there for happy hour but arrived a few mins before it started, the waitress gave us chips, salsa and water to snack on before happy hour started. We landed at OGG and were Starving, Using Yelp pulled up Amigos, a super close mexican restaurant. Service was great, very friendly! We enjoyed the food, but it was nothing special, I have defintely had better in San Diego, but this is Maui. Chips and Salsa were super yummy. read more

Lunch special was nothing great, bland food with a canned taste. We paid $7.00 for two sodas and not once did the waitress ask if we wanted refills. We drained the water and had to wait for a check. There are plenty of good restaurants on Maui, we will not return to this one. read more
