I was first attracted to their margaritas thanks to their Facebook posts listing new flavors last year (I'm looking at you Mangoneada! ) This time around, I had the refreshing Hisbiscus margarita. Fresh chips and an assortment of salsa are always provided. But don't fill up on the chips, their food is delicious! So far, I've tried their nachos, chicken quesadilla, and chicken burrito plate served wet. All have left me very full, one day I hope to leave room for dessert. The servers and bar staff were also polite and helpful. My server forgot that I ordered my burrito wet, immediately apologized and brought over the sauce. Went here to have lunch since we had a 3 hour layover in Kahului. Asked taxi driver where we could get good Mexican food and he recommended this place. We waited around 10 min to be seated so I knew this was a good place cause it was busy. It was kinda warm inside the restaurant, looked at the menu and saw they had my favorite Chile relleno. Had a combo with shredded beef enchilada. Waited around half hour to get our food. I guess it's because there was a table of 10 that got seated before us. But it was worth the wait the food was really good. Everything was good. They also have good drinks. Seating is limited and kinda dark inside but very good service. read more

While visiting Maui, we had wanted good Mexican food. Coming off Hana Highway, we saw Amigo's. The hostess seemed really nice, she got us seated. Then the waitress arrived. Rude is a nice compared to what I would really like to say. She came over, didn't introduce herself. Didn't ask us what we would like to drink. Literally pointed at us and said "Meal?" My friend asked about a green salsa and she said , yeah we have it... meal?? We had to flag down other servers to get refills on drinks. We thought maybe she was having a bad day, but she was chatting it up and laughing with another table. The receipt said her name was Jennifer. Younger looking Hispanic woman with long brown hair. If that was indeed Jennifer, she needs an attitude adjustment. The food was good. read more

Tucked behind the gas station and next to the Minute Stop on Diary Road is a small Mexican restaurant. My husband, myself, and 3 kids were sgreeted at the door and saw that the special was Birilla. oh Man! This crunchy (i think deep fried) pulled pork taco (no veggies) was sooo delicious. It comes with the drippings from the pork pan and you can drench or drizzle the sauce onto your taco. The pork is soft and the texture of the taco shell crunches between you lips. I must add that the whole time your placing the taco in your mouth you have the yummy drippings of the pork sauce down the side of your lip. Wash it down with a Modelo Especial and you are good to go! read more

Looking for food close to the airport cuz we flew in and then had an hour to kill before had to pick someone else up. Not bad for Hawaii Mexican food! Better than most places on Oahu. There was even a table of Mexicans...I took that as a good sign (not that there are many other options). Saw Amigo's in Kihei too so I guess it's a chain? Chips were heavy. But they brought more and was still heavy but at least warm. There is a little salsa bar. The very hot salsa is hot...or maybe I'm just a wuss. It burned, but I kept eating it. I had the El Carnivoro Breakfast Skillet...Hold the potatoes, and with Flour Tortillas. Choke bell peppers and onions, but still choke meat. Was pretty ono. She forgot the tortillas, but when it finally came was warm and soft. Yum. Too much food tho so ate about a quarter and had to pack it up. Hubs had the Sopes. Tongue and Carne Asada. I can only eat so much of that heavy "crust" but he likes it. Credit card machine was broken so cash only. They were working to fix it, so hopefully works by now. read more

Mmm, not totally amazed from my recent visit but I gave 4 starts because I've been here before where the food is pretty good. My recent visit wasn't that great as the service was on the poor side and our drinks definitely did not look like the picture they advertised it as. But that's ok, the flavor was there. Portions are just enough to be comfortable so if you're really hungry you may need to add extra sides or something. I love that this place has self serve salsa bar so you can help yourself to try whatever sauce you'd like. They also offer daily specials as well as ala carte and combo options. Hidden gem inside of a shopping mall. My partner and I stopped here on our way to the Road to Hana because she wasn't loving the food she'd had so far on the island and missed food from home. The shredded beef is similar to a Birria and was insanely good and the standout. I'd definitely stop here again. Mainlanders, if you're looking for texmex flavors; this isn't the spot. Call me pleasantly surprised after my experience here. We were met at the door and required to show proof of vax, which made us feel more comfortable walking in. Once you're inside the smell of the food hits you and gets the mouth watering. Do not pass up the birria tacos or authentic soups. Horchata is homemade to perfection. Service takes forever, food not as good as Kihei location, absurdly charge $2 for tiny refill of (stale) chips (you know, the first set you ate while waiting 15min to order) is crazy, esp considering $20 plates and drinks. Nickel and dime. If everything else was on point then no gripe but it's just not. Go to Kihei location - same owner but somehow food is a notch better and never been charged for extras when spending $80 there. read more

We enjoy Mexican food regularly in San Antonio but this restaurant would not be open long there. The servers here are all overworked ladies. The Queso was not cheesy, thick or tasty. It was a big bowl of thin, bland, and sweet fluid. The Relleno was tiny, greasy and floppy with no flavor. The beef enchilada was dry but the sour cream added to the taste. The rice and beans were ok. The chips were stale and the three self-serve salsas were a non-event. The flautas were dry and slightly overcooked but good. Man this food was SO good! All of us in our party are satisfied with our meal. I cleaned my entire plate. They start you off with some chips and they have a salsa bar that you can go get your own sauces for your chips and meal. The salsa was a hit and complimented the meal and chips. I got the steak quesadillas and they were mouth watering! The onions were caramelized enough to make them slightly sweet but enough to not over power the steak. The tortilla was crunchy and not soggy. It's hard to get a quesadilla that's crunch. I had access to plenty of creamy sour cream too. The waitresses checked on us often and kept our drinks topped off. For sure 5/5. This was our dinner stop after a long road to Hana drive. Would come here again! read more

Found this place while searching for good Mexican food while on vacation in Maui. Looked like a locals kinda place, less touristy which we wanted. Seated quickly and placed order for drinks, they have several beers on tap and had a special on strawberry margaritas. Can't miss with a cold beer and the margarita was sweet and delicious. For dinner I had the combo plate with a chicken enchilada and a ground beef taco. My husband went for the senor burrito. The combo meal was large and served with rice and beans, all pretty standard Mexican fare but not super flavorful. The burrito packed more of a punch with Serrano peppers in addition to the ground beef. Good place for typical Mexican food, good but not great! read more

They advertise themselves best Mexican food on Maui so I expected the best. - Plastic covered tables stick to your skin. - Full service restaurant but self service salsa in 2oz plastic cups make it difficult to enjoy experience. - Cold stale chips were a disappointment. - $3.50 for an iced tea, really now. - $15 fish tacos were good but the chipotle sauce squirted all over them was overpowering. - $13.00 fajitas were good except they weren't served with a plate so had to use a napkin. My Server saw what I was doing I wasn't offered a plate. Apparently they won an award for the food but I can't see how or why. I will try again since Maui is short on Mexican food. read more

Heard about this place and even bookmarked it. I was originally gonna go to Minit stop buy heard good things about this place, so why not! I came inside and there weren't too many people inside. Asked for a menu since there were only a couple listed. THere was a to go and you can eat there. Wasn't sure if I order first then sit so I just ordered. THen told them I was gonna eat it there. They brought me some water and silverware a. Food came out in a box so I ate there. Enchilada a la crate with side guacamole. Also sour cream which was nice and creamy and the enchilada sauce was tasty too. Even though the guacamole small was $1.25 it was a tiny amount. Might go for the large next time. Enchilada was good. If I come back I sit at the bar, that's where everyone was talking story anyway. read more

BREAKFAST My buddy and I recently enjoyed "Three Amigo's Sunday". I was informed that Amigo's has a decent breakfast and I have heard different stories about which location is best. So, I had this crazy idea that since they serve breakfast all day long, it is reasonable to check out Amigo's for breakfast, lunch and dinner, eating breakfast items for each. This review will be posted for each of the three locations as I will incorporate information about each of three within this review. Their Bloody Marys are decent. The Kihei location has a special for only $3.50 until 11 am, while Kahului has them at $4 until 11 am. The Kahului ones had more spice. By the time we got to Lahaina around 4:30, they were out of bloody mix for the day and they said they do not have any morning specials at that location. I will still check out the Lahaina bloody marys at some point. Regarding drink specials in addition to bloody marys, the Kahului location also has $4 Screwdrivers and Well Drinks from 8 am until 11 am. Kihei has $3.50 Screwdrivers, as well as $5 Margaritas and Mimosas. The food quality at all three locations were similar. However, the Kihei location has a wider selection of breakfast items, and is cheaper than the other two locations. The Kahului location does have a salsa bar which was nice. However, servers at the other locations will bring you salsa upon request. The El Carnivoro Skillet was my favorite and I ate it in Lahaina. Prices for this are $10.99 Kihei, $12 Kahului, $15.99 Lahaina. The Machaca Con Heuvos was also very good and I ordered that in Kahului. Prices for that are $9.99 Kihei, $12 Kahului, $14.99 Lahaina. The Amigo's Burrito with meat was also nice. $6.99 Kihei, $8 Kahului, $9.99 Lahaina. Lahaina offers 13 breakfast choices. Kahului offers the same 13 choices plus seven Breakfast Tortas and six Breakfast Tacos. Kihei offers 23 breakfast entrees. Kihei also offers five specials at only $5.99 until 11 am. Service was good at each location. It was interesting that each location offers 10% Kama'aina discount on food and non-alcohol drinks, and this is on an already affordable menu. Breakfast hours in Lahaina and Kihei are Sunday through Thursday 8 am until 9 pm, Friday and Saturday 8 am until 10 pm. Breakfast hours in Kahului are 8 am until 9 pm Daily. Parking for the Lahaina location is best in the back, but make sure to get your parking validated so you can get two hours of free parking. If you are looking for affordable breakfast food and appreciate Tex-Mex, then any of the Amigo's locations should work out. However, Kihei is the best of the locations based on price, specials, and number of menu items. read more

My go-to spot for Mexican food on Maui with a convenient location on Dairy Road. I eat at Amigo's often for dinner (I generally always get takeout) and breakfast (I always dine-in at the restaurant). Service is good either way. For dinner, my usual order is a shredded chicken or shrimp quesadilla. These are delicious and come with rice and beans if you want. You can also get this ala carte. For breakfast, my usual order is the New York steak and eggs. This is delicious and comes with rice and beans and flour or corn tortillas. Amigo's offers a little chilled salsa bar with various options of fresh salsas to choose from to go with your meal. This also includes pickled jalapenos and fresh limes. read more

I have officially given this place a second shot, and I am still not impressed. The food was slightly better than my last visit, but the details are the same. I came because I was super-hungry and I was about to just throw a road rage fit if I didn't stop to eat something. Once again, the server (who was different from my last visit) never told us there was a salsa bar. This time I knew, however, to go get my own salsa at the refrigerated cart. I like that it is refrigerated. The salsas were not that great. I had smokey-sour-hot or tomatoey-lemon. I mixed those two together, and I could use it on my food without too much regret. We were not offered fresh napkins after I had used my single ply. There was no napkin dispenser on the table. I had to ask (once again) for napkins so that I could wipe my fingers during my meal. My server had a beautiful smile and greeted us warmly but I felt that we were not checked on once the food was dropped. I see that many people still call this the "best Mexican food" on Maui, but if you know Maui, that's not a great comparison. There are many Mexican food restaurants here but none come close to my memories of Mexican food back in California. Which, I know, isn't Mexico, but before you judge me, go eat a burrito in California (specifically, Oxnard or Simi Valley) and then come back here. Then you'll see what I mean. The rice was good, the beans were decent, but the flavors of my taco and enchilada overall was so-so. The portions are a good size, so we were able to save some for home later. I always try to save leftovers, even food that isn't that great, because, you know, it's about money, honey. If you are willing to try out other small mom and pop places or holes in the wall, you WILL find better Mexican food on Maui (see my other reviews). read more

Went here for Sunday brunch we figured give it a try because we were both hungry for Mexican food. When we arrived it was a little busy in the dining room so we had to wait for a few min which was fine. When we were seated our waitress seemed friendly. She gave us our menus and then asked if we wanted anything to drink, so we placed our drink order while we looked over the menu. I ended up ordering the lengua enchilada plate which came with two enchiladas and rice and beans. My girlfriend had the carnitas burrito plate. We also had a small dish of chips and salsa. The salsa was ok it had a decent taste, there was no heat to it. While we were waiting for our food there were sports games on the TV and a pretty good amount of people but the one thing that really hit a nerve was whenever the ladies would go into a reach in or a cooler near us they insisted on slamming it so hard and not once or twice but every few min and they were slamming it so hard I could feel it in my chest. When our food finally did arrive it was a very underwhelming experience. My girlfriend's food looked decent. Mine was ok. The flavor was just not there in my food and I have had real Mexican food many times and this was very bland. My girlfriend's burrito at least had some flavor. Then on top of it no one asked if we needed more salsa. Overall not impressed with the food or the service which is sad because I had heard that they were decent. Especially with the prices they are charging. Definitely not high on my list of Mexican places on Maui. read more

I arrived here based on a recommendation of a coworker. When I came in, the staff all just kind of stared at me. I was seated at a booth by myself. I ordered a mango margarita. It was not super tasty, but it was strong. I ordered the chicken taco plate and an additional Al pastor taco. The menu said it came with "cilantro and onion or cheese and lettuce." I wanted cilantro and onion, but my server didn't ask me which one. She just took the menu and walked away. They dropped off my tacos with cheese and lettuce. I sat there for about 10 minutes with the food untouched before anyone checked on me. I was clearly looking around for help. Eventually someone came over, and I sent it back and asked for the onion and cilantro. Server seemed annoyed. She brought me the tacos back. I ordered another margarita. The tacos were the most bland and unseasoned tacos I have ever tasted. I could only take two bites. Someone brought over my margarita- the wrong flavor. I sent it back for the right one. I finished my margarita and sat there for an additional 30 minutes with plates full of food. Someone finally checked on me again. They asked if I wanted a box. I said absolutely not. Bill was 43 dollars for this disgusting Mexican food. Maui subpar dining strikes again. 2 stars for the strong margarita. Never coming back to any location. read more
