I was initially nervous to use any type of moving company- esp to finally choose one and to have it be the wrong one! Hiring Ampol did NOT turn out to be anything but a load (literally and figuratively!) off my shoulders. Back in October, three of their movers helped downsize my parents into a storage unit. My parents and I cut it extremely close with the storage unit size but Ampol Moving was able to "Tetris" their items into their truck and do the same with the storage unit. Miraculously, they did so in one trip! They actually did such a stellar job that we will probably have to hire them just to remove it from the unit! The fifth star was given for the small extras they performed- they arrived at the unit first and noticed a mouse (ew) and alerted us to the issue. They also did things such as put our mattresses off the ground in case of water seepage and educated us on possible television damage in non-climate controlled units during cold weather. Overall, I feel comfortable using the company again for a move and definitely would recommend them to my friends and yelpers alike. read more

Holy crap this place got better. Like oh my god if I could recommend this place on billboards or something I so would. If you're looking for a decent moving company in Chicago, you found it. Like, seriously, you don't need to look anymore. So I moved from Lakeview to Schaumburg, and oh my god these guys were amazing. I already knew that but oh god, even more so. When I moved from the Loop to Lakeview, the movers that were hired damaged the furniture (a lot), took forever, and charged an arm and a leg (partially from sending out more guys than they needed). Ampol is like, the polar opposite, and are just amazing. For the record, I just moved (with Ampol) from the third floor of a walkup to the first floor of another building. Also, this wasn't just a one way thing, there were several stops involved. (Which they were super accommodating with, btw.) So they called before they got there (again, got there way quickly), and got right to work. Again, way quick- I can't stress this enough. We had originally told them there would be three locations to pick up from, but due to a change of plans there were only two. No big deal. When we realized furniture that had to be dropped off somewhere else was packed in the back? No problem, they went to move it right away. The furniture we thought would be impossible to take without taking apart? A breeze to take down the stairs intact. (And even things that they did take apart, it wasn't 100% taken apart, like the other company we used before.) They didn't mind dragging that piano out of the storage unit, or the dining table up from my boyfriend's parent's basement. When it came time to unloading, (once again) they were swift. They even wiped their feet before coming in. (It's the small things, you know.) They didn't mind moving things a couple times around the room, working around the boxes, and didn't seem to mind my really loud, screamy bird (who really hates strangers). So, to recap and summarize- fast, inexpensive ($600 for a two bedroom move with 2 guys, 2 extra stops), really polite and considerate, and great at what they do. Go with them, seriously. read more

Very professional. Showed up early, asked what needed to be put in the truck and what didn't. It took a little longer than I thought but they were very good and wrapped everything breakable so it wouldn't get damaged. We've used them 3 times for various types of homes...apartment, townhouse, and house. All times we've never regretted using them! Like others have mentioned, they confirm the times the day before, regardless of how early you book your date. They get here on time and work consistently throughout. Never have to worry about breaking anything down because they do it all for you. They even took down a door to make sure everything fit through without damaging your items. They look at your stuff beforehand to see what will fit best arranged in their massive truck. They bring their own materials to wrap your furniture. The company did such a good job on my move today, I am compelled to write a review. Background: 1 bedroom move from a storage unit (10x10) to an apartment. I called a handful of places to get quotes. These guys were the most reasonable and had great reviews so I decided to go with them. And I am glad I did. The crew arrived on time. They quickly got to work as soon as they arrived and worked quickly the whole time. I had a few special requests for things to be wrapped / handled in a certain way and they did it without any of the typical comments I have gotten in the past (eg "I know how to do my job"). Everything was completed in three hours which is what I was expecting it to take. And there was no damage to furniture / boxes. I really appreciated that they handled everything with care. And I thought I'd add, they were moving quickly, but they weren't stressed. On the last two moves before this, the crews were really anxious and at times bickered between each other. This crew I worked with had a nice dynamic going on. Some of the crew's English is only so so, but the main foreman was solid so there weren't any communication issues. Wow, where do i start!! Just yesterday they moved me from a house to an apartment. They were wonderful on so many levels. They took such great caution with all my furniture, and even would give advice on the best way to expediate the move. Such a great experience! I dislike moving more than I can put into words, but Ampol made it so much easier. From easy set up of services to friendly and hard working movers - the whole process was simple and smooth. Nothing was damaged in the move and there were no issues with special requests. If moving was an Olympic sport, these guys would win. The ONLY Chicago movers I will ever use. Professional, punctual and super careful with your stuff. Just finished my second move in 4 years with Ampol. Their moving quotes are accurate and there is zero surprise pricing. We moved a very VERY full two bedroom apartment for about $800 within the same city (3 movers and a huge truck.) 1) They are super careful with your stuff and wrap all furniture/TV's/fragile items carefully before transporting. 2) If you're moving within Chicago, they ALWAYS leave one guy with the truck that moves stuff within/organizes and serves as a deterrent for opportunistic persons walking by. 3) They don't take breaks. This is a plus because you're being charged by the hour but also a minus because you, as the movee, will need a break from watching all the hard work and feel guilty because you are taking a break. Solution. Buy them lunch. Be a nice person. Everyone likes free food. 4) They will put down runners and other such things to make your building management people happy. If you're like me, you're worried about signing an online agreement or signing a contract in blood before anyone agrees to do work for you. Don't. Call them. Book the appointment and then when they're done, pay with an old school check. Tipping - tip your movers. The rule of thumb is $5/hour per guy. We had three guys. 6 hours of moving. That would mean $30 per guy.. but really, bump it up if you can.. Just picture you doing it yourself and then add another 20% to that. read more

These guys are best movers I have ever used - and I have moved a lot! They moved me within my building from one apartment to another in Oct 2013. They were a couple of hours late, apparently because the previous move was more complicated than they had thought. But once they showed up they did a great job. They wrapped all my furniture in shrink wrap and moved it carefully - no dings or damage. They accommodated all our requests without making a fuss. Despite their reasonable hourly rate, they worked at a good pace and did not drag it out. The whole experience was pleasant and trouble-free, which is very, very rare for a move. I've moved many, MANY times. Each time I have to use movers because I have an upright piano. I've always used the same company, but they were booked the day I needed them so I used ampol. My move was not easy. Many stops. Lots of stuff. It was about 8 hours long. All three guys worked so hard the entire time. They were nice, communicative and really wanted to make me happy. I kept asking how I could help (time is money!) and Milos kept giving me easy things to do that would save a ton of time. They were amazing start to finish. Arrived early, stayed late. Started working right away, and yes, the owner DOES respond to messages via Yelp in a very reasonable time. I was relieved they were available in several days notice and came focused and ready to pull things apart, bring things in-- 3rd floor to 3rd floor too! Ampol movers did such a wonderful job with our move! The booking process was very easy with prompt communication on Yelp and through email. Three men came with their truck right on time. They were so nice, professional, and were clearly very experienced and knowledgeable. Moving out our big furniture from our apartment on the third floor (no elevator!) took them no time at all. All furniture was wrapped in plastic wrap to protect it. My husband and I moved a lot of the smaller stuff ourselves, and the movers picked up our leftover things and always asked if there were any other little things they could grab to help us out. They also disassembled our beds and put them back together in the new house. I would definitely recommend Ampol Moving for anyone who wants some peace of mind. Ampol was recommended to us by some family that recently used them to move into a new house and we decided to use them for our move this past weekend from Chicago out to the north suburbs. My wife and I could not be happier with the job they did. The movers showed up on time, they were extremely careful with everything and very organized. We had four guys helping us for six hours and they all worked unbelievably hard and efficiently. In the rush to pack and prepare to move, we didn't have time to break down our bed. They were more than happy to take apart the bed and set it up in our new house. They were able to do it in a fraction of the time compared to what it would have taken me and it was well worth the time it took one of the movers to work on the bed. We also have an very large and incredibly heavy wood island that was a challenge to get out of our old apartment and into the new house. They took their time and made sure we found a way to get it into our house without any damage to this very large piece. They were also great when it came to unloading our stuff and setting it up at the house. They will set up and prepare absolutely anything you want and they take care in everything they do. If you are organized, they will get everything where you want it and set up however you prefer in next to no time at all. The best part: the cost for their moving services is unbelievably reasonable. They told us what the charges would be ahead of time, as well as the cost for additional hours, and there were no surprise charges when it was time to pay the bill. I would use this company again in a heartbeat and absolutely recommend them to anyone looking in the need of movers. Best moving experience I have ever had. read more

We just used Ampol Moving last week and they were awesome! I got multiple quotes from moving companies and Ampol's rate of $85/hour for a 3 man crew couldn't be beat. They came on time the day of our move, they were friendly, clean, professional, careful, hard workers and fast. They quoted us 5-7 hours for the move and it took them 6.5 hours. We used two other moving companies in the past that were not nearly as efficient. I hope this is our last move but if we ever have to move again we'd use them again for sure. read more

Both units are located on the second floor (stairs, no elevator), and many of my furniture pieces are solid wood and very heavy.
