Golden Eagle is what the Jersey Diner breakfast experience should be. This was probably our 4th or 5th visit. They have friendly, prompt service and an enormous menu with many omelettes and skillets to choose from. My favorite is the Athenian omelette with gyro meat, tomatoes and feta. It was Served with home fried and choice of toast. My husband had the scrapple skillet which is including in my photos. Coffee refills were offered readily. The bill for two before tip was $42.01 The Christmas spirit was immediately evident when we arrived on this December morning. The whole restaurant was decorated. My new favorite diner in the area. I've lived in Hunterdon county for 25 years and I recently came here for the very first time! It's a little out of my way but, what drew me in was how they decorate for the holidays. I felt like I was inside a beautifully wrapped present! The food here was above average as far as diners go and the portions are huge. My friend took half of her Greek salad to go! My waiter was extremely friendly and funny and asked me if I wanted my hash browns with sautéed onions and peppers, as if he was reading my mind! Can't wait to bring the whole family back. read more

Whenever I'm in the Ringoes area near mealtime I stop at the Golden Star Diner for a meal. Ringoes is a good distance from where I live, but I sometimes go out of my way to have a meal there if I can. I have found their meals to be tasty, well-made, and very enjoyable. The waitstaff is excellent. I often get an omelet and it is always made as I ask. When the food is brought, if I leave this off or ask to have that added, it's done correctly. Went here with friends for New Year's Day breakfast. They recommended it to me to try out. When we went inside, the place was very clean, and everyone was very professional there. Friendly little roadside diner... Awesome service and good food, the portions are huge. On my visit with my wife we wanted to see the Christmas decor, but alas , days before my visit it was deemed a fire hazard and was removed. Sad because we traveled over 20 miles to see it in person after viewing it on Instagram. Some Grinch stole Christmas !!! The visit was not wasted because lunch was awesome I had the chicken parm sandwich with fries, ant the wife had the chicken BLT wrap. I drive past this place all the time. But whenever I think that I want diner food, I forget that this place is here. Well, I took care of that last night. The parking lot is usually full. This is not the case last night. I'll blame that on the weather. First impressions are that the place appeared very clean. As I was getting a to go order, my only contact with the staff was the gentleman at the front counter. He quickly took my order, and told me 5-10 minutes. And it was. The food was very good. My only complaint in hindsight was, the salad could have used a little more dressing. (It came dressed. I usually like it on the side so I can dress my own) And it was a bit pricey. I asked politely if the pancakes are nut free and he said "no" I asked again to confirm and they proceeded to yell and say "no they are regular". Visited this diner December 2021. We were seated in a back room that had little to no heat. Our food was mediocre in both quality and quantity and concluded we would not be repeat customers. Fast forward to this past weekend, my sister was visiting from out of state. We wanted a Jersey diner breakfast where we could sit and chat and enjoy some good food. I noticed that the Golden Star Diner had great facebook reviews: good food, huge portions, and at this time of year the Christmas decorations were a big attraction so we decided to give it another try. Upon arrival we were seated immediately in a booth. The Christmas decorations were still up and they were spectacular. Our waitress came over and took our order. A Trenton omelet and ice tea for myself and a waffle with sausage and hot tea for my sister. Our food arrived. It was good but nothing remarkable. The portions were sufficient but not huge like the reviews indicated. We ate, chatted and just enjoyed our morning together. Suddenly our waitress comes over with our bill and whispered that the manager would like us to leave because we sat too long. WE LOOKED AT HER STUNNED. We were there less than 2 hours. There were many available tables and no line at the door. We got our coats, left the tip on the table and proceeded to their checkout counter. We paid $48 plus the tip for this insulting encounter. I find it extremely rude and unprofessional to ask a paying customer to leave. As a resident of 40+ years in this community, I would not go back if they were giving away food for free. read more

We had high hopes for a nice simple breakfast. Service was slow and when our order arrived, item were missing from our order. It was a while before we could find our server who was never in our room. Then still had to wait five more minutes for toast that arrived cold and hard. When checking out I checked the menu again because I thought my breakfast should have included sausage and 3 slices of bacon. When I told the manager that I never received the sausage and only had two skinny pieces of bacon he said he can't do anything about it. I asked to speak to the manager and he stated he was the manager. Very unprofessional for a manager to argue with a customer who felt taken advantage of. No need to return here. In the end he took $3.00 off our bill, but why did he have to argue with a customer in front of people waiting? Very humiliating. read more

Awesome ambiance- went here during Christmas after seeing posts online. They decorated the entire restaurant, from floor to ceiling. The food was decent- I got pancakes and chicken fingers. However, I was disappointed when the diner had no sauces available besides hot sauce and ketchup. I have never gone to a place that the owner or manager (not sure who the cranky old man in the front was) is so rude to their customers. Told us we can't change what is on the menu - we wanted a pancake and waffle for the kids - told us we can't order just one of each, told us to order from the kids menu, we explained that our kids are vegetarians and the items on the kids menu all come with bacon or sausage and when we asked if we can have something instead of the bacon or sausage he said no. My husband wanted the egg Benedict but it comes with bacon (he is also vegetarian) so we asked if they can make it without the bacon and maybe add tomatoes or avocado they said they won't do that because they won't change the menu... seriously?!? This is a DINER not a 5 star restaurant and even if it was a fancy restaurant they accommodate people's requests. Then I asked for a Turkey BLT but when we got the bill it said Turkey club and extra avocado and extra for the bread.. called the owner over to ask why we were charged so much and for so many extras when all I wanted was the BLT sandwich with Turkey, he then proceeded to yell at us saying he won't change the menu When we spoke to him to explain that this is just typical requests for customers at a restaurant he didn't want to listen and started becoming very hostile, told us to leave and never come back NEVER COMING BACK HERE AND I HOPE NO ONE WILL EAT THERE BECAUSE OBVIOUSLY THE OWNER HAS MAJOR ISSUES read more

We were looking for a late afternoon snack and found the Golden Star Diner. First impression was that place is a bit rundown. Weeds, holes and ripped up weed barrier fabric have overtaken the front grass area which looked very neglected. Inside the decor is very sad and dated. On the positive side, we immediately noted the very warm and pleasant staff who got us seated and set up with drinks very quickly. Our waitress was very nice and did a great job looking after us the entire time we were there. As for the food, we went with the spaghetti and meatballs, mac and cheese, the deluxe burger platter and a side of fries. I tried a bit of everything, here's my take: French Fries - The best dish of the bunch was the French Fries. They were fresh and perfectly cooked. Crispy outside, tender inside. Just the right amount of salt. Delicious. Hamburger platter - The burger was fair at best. It wasn't served hot enough and it didn't have a great taste. The meat quality was sub par. We only finished about 1/3 of it. Mac and cheese - The mac and cheese was decent, but the sauce was a like a watered down Velveeta which we did not love. Reminded me of school lunch quality. Spaghetti and meatballs - The worst dish of the lot was the spaghetti and meatballs. The meatballs were obviously reheated and not freshly made that day. They had an off-putting hard texture and the ratio of meat to bread crumbs was way off. It also had alot of big vegetable pieces inside, not what comes to mind when I think Italian meatballs. The pasta seemed to be microwaved and had a funky texture. Overall, it was really gross, a big swing and miss. Two star diner at best. We all left grumbling about the food. We arrived here on Saturday evening. The menu was humongous. You could order any food; breakfast, lunch, or dinner at any time. We ordered the onion rings as an appetizer, chicken Parmesan sandwich entree, chicken panini entree, and BLT entree. All entrees were good, came with fries. Out the door, our bill was $46. Golden Star Diner on RT. 202 North in Ringoes, NJ, is a solid Greek Jersey diner, with broad menu options. It is very well maintained, and gives the impression of being classier than the standard road house. I was there for breakfast last week, and slid onto a stool at the counter. The place was pretty quiet, but it was the day before Thanksgiving, and people may have been going light to create space for the celebration to come. I was just hungry before a morning meeting, and had visions of an omelet dancing in my head. There was a long list of three eggers on page two, and the Farmer's Omelet with a swap of feta for cheddar and home fries inside, sang to me. The friendly server had no problem with my customization. It was zoftig. And, it was very good. The bacon, sausage, onion, pepper, feta and taters were a delicious combination. A few drops of Tabasco added just the right kick in the pants to make it a near complete pleasure. Had the home fries been a bit softer, the opus would have had me kvelling. As it was, I was a happy man. Coffee was decent and free flowing. Rye toast buttered and crisp. I made the meeting on time, and didn't eat for the rest of the day. On my way out I paid at the cashier, and was introduced to Jimmy, the owner. He was pleased when I answered his satisfaction question in the positive. We got there around 5:30, and it wasn't too crowded. Atmosphere: There isn't anything too unique about the diner. It's an old building, with outdated furnishings. It does have a cute little outdoor pond, and they were decorated for the outside. The inside has a bar with plenty of booths and tables. We sat in a peaceful booth which was nice. Coffee: The coffee was brewed hot and fresh, and I have no complaints. The waitress refilled it often.  There wasn't anything too special about it, but it wasn't bad. Food: The Golden Star Diner has everything of a typical diner.  There are a lot more breakfast options including several omelets.  There were also several wraps, sandwiches, and Greek specialties.  I decided the Greek Gyro Platter caught my eye and ordered that. I also added Manhatten clam chowder. The clam chowder was good, and I actually like Manhatten clam chowder more than New England. There were plenty of clams and potatoes. The Greek Gyro platter came with a Greek Gyro and Greek salad.  I was indifferent about it.  I could have used more food, and I hesitate to call it a "platter."  I don't know why I think gyros will ever be easy eats but I was able to not be as messy as possible. Dessert: I was still hungry so decided to order bread pudding. The bread pudding was decent, except it was doused with too much cinnamon.  It wasn't my least favorite but not my favorite either. Service: The waitress was friendly and refilled our beverages often.  Our food also came out exceptionally quickly, which is always wonderful when you're hungry. Cost: For my soup, platter, coffee, and dessert it was $20. Overall Thoughts/Would I Come Back? The Golden Star Diner was right in the middle as far as diners go.  It wasn't especially good or bad. Overall a solid diner with a menu that pretty much can satisfy anyone. I've had breakfasts and dinners from eggs Benedict to a open Turkey sandwich for dinner and the food has been solid . Some plates not so solid , pancakes were meh and the burger I tried was dry . Not necessarily the freshest food I've tasted but solid plates that at least look and taste like what I was expecting .
