I've been to Amy's Nail gallery several times since moving to Wicker Park. I was impressed with my first visit, but every subsequent visit has been pretty disappointing. Don't get me wrong, the salon isn't terrible or gross but it's become pretty mediocre. Here's why: The service feels extremely rushed and my nail color frequently chips within a day or two. I blame the chipping on the fact that they no longer paint multiple layers of nail color and top coat on each of my nails. They're always hurrying to get me out of there. I realize that they've become very popular in the last several months but, well, I don't care. I'm not paying to insert myself into a factory setting. I want my manicure to be thorough, comfortable and long-lasting. I want to be offered a drink, I want my ENTIRE nail bed to be painted and I don't want to find nail polish on my finger tips when I get home. I could do all of that myself for free. They need to hire more people, expand or start turning away clients. Their service is getting ridiculous and annoying. I've started booking appointments across town at Nail.com because I'm tired of feeling like I'm throwing money away. read more

Maybe I am spoiled from the competitive Cali nail salons, but this place sucked. To the point I wanted to walk out midway through the pedicure. I asked for callus remover to be left on covered by plastic, saying I would pay more and they just hushed me. They scrubbed feet first, lotion, chintzy massage, then another girl was about to start working on my cuticles without pushing them back or cuticle softener. I was annoyed when I realized she was going to do my manicure too after such a half assed pedicure. This place doesn't do fills???? What freaking nail place doesn't do fills? And when I walked in they were very rude to me. They looked busy and didn't seem to care about my customer service at all. I get it, when it's busy your mind is racing. But to pretty much shoo me out the door and be like "oh no no no we don't do fills, bye"!!!!! Like really? Don't go here!!! Go to revive nails, their way better!!!! And so much nicer!!!!! read more

Well, it sounds like everyone else had good experiences here, so let me be the first to say, I will never return here! I went here with my friend on her birthday to get relatively inexpensive pedicures at a walk-in place. They lack many polish colors and most of the bottles looked like they had been collecting dust since 2003. The two women working there meant well, but were just horribly unexperienced. My friend literally had to tell the lady how to do a french pedicure and to make sure to use a base coat- It's like it was her first day or something. Plus, there was a huge language barrier and one of them could barely understand english- we had to have the other lady translate for her. Maybe we were just pushy, but I would be shocked if people continue to go and pay for manis and pedis here. There are several other cheap walk in places nearby that do a way better job and speak english! read more

This place is great! I've been going here for about five years or so and they're really nice with reasonable prices. I only go Monday through Wednesday to take advantage of their deal (manicure/pedicure for $28). It's quite an experience as they have a lot of little extras they do as part of their service. This is a two-part review. Part - one : At the salon... 3 1/2 stars! New to Chicago and a nail fanatic, I thought I'd try Amy's Nail Gallery as I passed by. I arrived as a walk in client for a full set of acrylics, a pedi, and brow wax. It was pretty busy for a Tuesday afternoon, but I was promptly greeted pleasantly. I picked out my colors and only waiting several minutes before heading to a chair. While waiting, I was very impressed by how quickly people moved in and out. It was also nice to see that all the women working wore a uniform. Cindy was my nail tech. She worked a little bit on the slow side, but crafted the shape and painted the art excellent. I was slightly taken back that it took almost 75 min to do just the full set. The pedicure was fairly standard. The paraffin treatment did give an extra touch. Cindy seemed very distracted though and business had picked up; there were 4 or 5 people waiting at the front. She ended up rushing through my pedicure and brow wax in under ten minutes. Talk about a quick job! Part- two: At home... 1 star! Within seven hours of leaving the salon two of my nails cracked off. Of course, I was upset. I returned to the salon the next day. I requested Cindy and she squeezed me into a seat and quickly replaced both nails free of charge. Over the next 8 days, I lost seven of my nails. Yesterday was the exact two-week mark and all my nails had either lifted and fell off or had cracked off. Needless to say, I'm disappointed and in need of a new salon to try out. read more

Anyone but Kim! I have been going to Amy's Nail Gallery for 3 years now and I usually LOVE it but I had such a bad experience today that I am wondering if I should ever go back. I can look past the inconsistencies from girl-to-girl on the use of bond-aid (some put it on before any polish and then again between coats, others just between coats...it should be done before polish than again between coats for full effect though), and I can look past the inconsistency in the length of massage, but what I cannot look past is the total disregard Kim had for doing a good job. She hardly touched me during the shoulder massage, she forgot to file one of my nails, she put so much oil on my hand that I had to ask her for a paper towel to wipe my hands before I even touched my purse, she didn't trim my cuticles all the way (and also left dead-skin around my nails which the other girls usually trim),she missed a spot of my pinky (and when I pointed it out she essentially told me to shush) and she left nail polish along the sides of my fingers. Don't get me wrong, this is the first time I had such a horrible experience. I have, up until this point, been thrilled with my experiences. I just need to warn other ladies out there that Kim is not very good and if you are looking for a proper manicure experience I would suggest anyone else. read more

I had a great experience here about a week ago! On a whim, a friend and I decided to get our nails done and we randomly picked Nail Gallery. The atmosphere is very invited (+) and everyone who worked there was welcoming (+). It was fairly busy when we walked in, but we were helped quickly (+). I think the manicure was 13 dollars and it included a paraphin wax hand dip (+), a small shoulder rub (+), and hand massage (standard). My nail technician did a very nice job on my nails and the manicure lasted about 5 days (+). My good experience definitely made me want to go back and I really want to check out their mani/pedi deal. The only downside is the lack of parking (boo). read more

Nail Gallery, the best there is. Anywhere. Over the past 5.5 years, I have been a regular at the Nail Gallery. Wonderful, wonderful service. The owner, Amy, is incredible - she's always adding and improving her salon. She remembers EVERYONE. I don't know how she does it. Paraffin for no extra charge, mini-massage, uses hot stones for manis/pedis, has a selection of over 500 colors, hot towels, warm atmosphere. The employees are lovely, kind, polite and talented. Amy now even offers a punch card in addition to her incredibly reasonable prices (M-W special, $38, otherwise $42). Lucky me, I live in walking distance, but would drive across the city for this level of service. I have visited high-end "posh" salons and they don't hold a candle. The nail tech cut my toe so badly it wouldn't stop bleeding and she couldn't finish the pedicure. The owner was there, but they still charged me for a full pedicure. I called back the next day and they did give me a full refund, but my experience was so bad I will never go back. There are so many other places in the neighborhood - skip this one. read more

I've never had to call ahead. I've wandered in during the afternoon, weekend, and after work, and amazingly, even though they're packed, I pick out my polish and get started. The employees here crack me up.. I've had one woman who talked my ear off and was singing to me, and another who just constantly scowls and never makes eye contact. 34 bucks for a mani pedi isn't bad, but even if you don't come during the week, $40 isn't too steep either. I wouldn't go here if I wanted a hard core pedicure, as they don't do much exfoliating or moisturizing, but for just prettying up your nails and feeling pampered for an hour, it's a good bet. read more

Just moved to Bucktown, so I decided to try out Amy's. Started with a paraffin wax (That's was a nice surprise) Then when I sat down, shoulder rub. (Sold!) The atmosphere was clean and relaxing. Staff took obvious pride in their work, quality manicure. I will definitely be coming back. Manicure is $13 M-W and $15 T-S. Great deal. Awesome experience. Highly recommend! read more

Love , Love this salon walked in on a bright sunny Sat early afternoon and got a manicure for $15 that included a parrafin treatment , a mini back massage , and the best hand massage I have had in years . The nail technician really took her time and loosened up all the knots in my hand . I felt like a pampered princess . The music was not blaring and it was uber clean . The vibe was relaxed and professional . I almost fell asleep in the chair after they placed a lavender scented heat pillow on my shoulders . There were no strange chemical smells at the end and I got my coat placed on my shoulders and my hands looked groomed, groomed , groomed ! Very happy will go back in a week . read more

I've been there three times and the first two were just for a manicure, then I went for a mani-pedi the last time. My pedicure was good but I was really disappointed in my manicure. The atmosphere, the parafin dip, massage, stone massage on your hands and all the perks were nice but the end result wasn't what I'd experienced the first few times. Jackie was my manicurist and far more concerned about what everyone else was doing than the manicure she was giving me. She was making sure all the other staff there were on top of everything so no one was waiting, which I understand is necessary but the quality of her work showed she wasn't paying attention. They should have had someone there specifically for that. I had to ask her to go back and redo cuticles before painting my nails because it didn't look like she'd done anything initially. A few of my nails were split so I was a bit stunned when she pried her nail between and peeled the peeling layer right off then sanded the hell out of it until my nail was too thin. Then she filed them down pretty far which I don't mind, except that it was only because she'd peeled and sanded my nails so thin she had to. She wasn't paying attention while painting my nails...until I made a point to check out her work after the first coat and then she got the extra polish off my cuticles while doing the second coat. read more

Stopped in on a whim Saturday - get some dark bloody-like polish for Halloween party, and was in heaven. Wasn't expecting much - but just the best experience. Mary was my tech and she was very detailed and attentive, loved the hot stones and my nails look great through the party, clean-up and now 5 days later... definitely will be back. read more

I recently visited the nail salon to get a manicure and pedicure. I really enjoyed the service entirely. The staff is patient,polite and very helpful. The prices are definitely worth it. The staff give great massages and I personally enjoyed the wax and the hot stones that go along with the manicure and the massage chairs during the pedicure. did you know you can enjoy an eyebrow wax so painless that you can almost catnap during the process? that something as seemingly agonizing as having poor, unappreciated, overabundant eyebrows removed can be a pleasant experience?! i never knew. until i went to the nail gallery after making a very last minute appointment for the coveted after-work time slot before the holidays. while i mentioned the fact that i burn very easily and have super sensitive skin, i was wondering if this place, like all the others, would just ignore this (assuming i was high maintenance and a wimp), and dot on the hot wax, then realize their mistake, slather me up with aloe for 10 minutes, and sheepishly charge me while they looked at my seared brows all guilty-like. but i was so happily surprised as the wax touched my eyebrows and i HARDLY FELT IT AT ALL. holy cow. then the nice technician noted, aloud, that yes, indeed, i do have very tender skin and it's important to treat it accordingly. (THANK YOU!) she then proceeded to do a tremendous job... waxing, tweezing, snipping... this took about a 1/2 hour and only cost $12. and my eyes weren't beet red afterwards for days. i'm so excited to go back i had a dream about it. not even kidding. read more

I moved to the South Loop two years ago and still return to this spot. After trying a multitude of other places, I'm convinced that nowhere else in the city offers the quality and experience for the price. I especially love the paraffin and mini-massages that are included in a manicure service. I would note that there doesn't seem to be much of a difference between making an appointment and walking-in, unless you have a group, and they prefer cash for gratuity. read more

How have I not reviewed Nail Gallery?!? This is my go-to place for a perfect mani-pedi. Clean, quick-but not rushed, quality products used and a nice shoulder massage with every treatment. The staff is super nice and really go out of their way to make your experience there pleasant and relaxing. Amy is so sweet an remembers all of the regular customers' names and greets them with a smile and hug. They have a huge selection of Essie and OPI polishes and always get the new collections in stock for customers to choose from. I always get a ton of compliments on my nails and I really think it's a combo of the products they use and all of the nail techs having pretty good techniques. They also have a punch card which comes in handy for savings after multiple visits. read more

this place does a great mani/pedi! they don't mess around. really, you can get a quality m/p here. i always recommend making an appt. they were able to take me on a saturday night at 530p (they close at 6p) - i had called around 445 to make the appt. as soon as i got in, i picked out my colors and they had 2 nail techs work on me simultaneously. WONDERFUL! my techs were really nice too. the first thing they do is a complementary paraffin wax for my hands and even for my heels. other salons always charge extra for that. there's a hot stone massage for your hands/feet too! they do a great job scrubbing, and then polish job is always perfect. they very much cater to you and pay attention to you. the only complaint i have is that it's $42 ($50 with tip). i'm used to paying a lot less, but i guess for quality and all the little extras, that's what you have to pay for. you also can get a punch card, so if you spend a certain amt of money, you get rewarded later (not exactly what it is - maybe a free m/p?) it's definitely an incentive though. read more

Since the age of fourteen I have gone to a nail salon bi-monthly religiously! No matter sleet, snow, rain, or hail, my nails are always polished! I have not had a terrific experience in a Chicago nail salon until Amy's. First, they only offer Essie and OPI, a good sign that they care about polish. Second, this place is always busy! Third, Esther, Tina and Sarah are phenomenal at polishing. Finally and most importantly, this place is CLEAN! They put all their supplies in the 'nail sanitizer' and there is no messiness. If you live in the area, I highly suggest going there! Also Mondays-Wednesdays a mani/pedi is $38 and if you have a punch card after $150 you get a free service of your choice! I called ahead for an appointment for a pedicure, 20min notice, on a Sunday. They were able to get me in. Let me say this place is awesome. Its my second time. They go above the average standard pedicure for the price of $30 . They massage for a solid ten minutes (she actually used pressure!), paraffin for your feet and pay great attention to detail. The nail polish colors are great and up to date! It will take over 30min so make sure you have time. read more

My friend and I had called around on a Saturday and asked for 2 pedicure appointments and no one would take us. We called here and they said yes. They were busy in there but got us right into chairs.
