Clients of mine used Amyworks about 5 years ago, and we did as well. We definitely wanted to continue to support women-owned businesses but unfortunately when it comes down to it it's a business and we have expectations and one of them is following up. In this case we have yet to hear back from the company and I sent a yelp DM 2 days ago and another yesterday. As another comment mentioned they didn't get follow up either over a month ago. The first time work was done on time and accurately although now my gate won't close. The cost is a little more than I want but the work is good. If I'm being charged for the time spent to and from the hardware store then I don't expect someone to spend time on their smart phone sitting in their truck as part of the hours. The second time I scheduled work I had specific instructions about my time frame and that I wanted supplies to be ready to go by the scheduled start time. The worker showed up without the items because they didn't check their work email regularly and didn't receive the email with instructions from the owner. This definitely made me upset because I was very specific about my concerns on the phone when I made the appointment. I'm a bit ambivalent about using Amy Works again but feel passionately about supporting a woman-owned businesses so that means I'll probably use them again. They're A-OK. 3.4 stars. read more

I had a list of several things I wanted done (hang some hooks in garage, install 2 baby gates, upper latch on front door)--the technician wound up only being able to install ONE baby gate (rigged with metal zip ties) & cost us $250! Horrible experience--hoping they choose to make this right. I now have to hire a proper handyman to fix this gate & do the other tasks on my list. We asked her for a little help on installing a new light fixture and assisting with some plumbing issues. Not only did she install the fixture, she painted around it to match the wall. The old fixture had a different shape. She also repaired the box the fixture attached to (it was crooked). Her attention to detail really impressed me! After my first experience with AmyWorks, I would highly recommend them. In the past, I've had difficulty getting a contractor to simply return my calls. And when I get someone who does, the quality of his workmanship is always a crapshoot. I've been disappointed more times than I've been impressed. Not knowing where to turn, I tried Yelp. AmyWorks had some really positive reviews, so I figured I'd give them a try. I called them shortly before closing and was pleasantly surprised when my call was returned within an hour--despite the fact that they were officially closed. Although the work I needed to have done was rather small, AmyWorks was willing to come out within a few days to do the job. On job-day, they emailed and called me to confirm the appointment. Susan, my contractor, was right on time. She was polite, was obviously experienced, got the job done quickly, cleaned up when she was done, and the bill was very reasonable. Amazing! Susan was great and did nice work for the most part, but the stairs are *not* level and slope the wrong way! These are outside front porch steps that we explicitly asked to have the treads sloping downward so that the water could run off of them. These steps were to be sealed so that the water would not pool in the low spot under the porch. Instead the steps slope towards the house, thus the rains always pools and sits on the steps in deep pools, causing the paint to stain easily. This also makes them icy in winter! Making steps is tricky, that's why I hired a "pro" instead of doing it myself. But failing to make them slope the desired way makes it seem like I did the work myself. Very disappointing. read more

AmyWorks was awesome from start to finish. Responsive, transparent, professional, and reasonable. And our house is BEAUTIFUL. We went with them for a fairly large project (building a front porch and residing the house) and so glad we did. We initially hired contractors our architect recommended, but their fixed price contract came back 20K (!!!) over their estimated price range. Amywork's price guestimate was totally on point, just from looking at a set of initial drawings from our architect. Not everything went perfectly (nothing ever does) but when something happened, Amyworks was quick to fix it--if I needed to know they asked me how I wanted to handle things. And if I didn't need to know they just handled it on their own. They kept the sub contractors in-line, and made sure everything was exactly what we wanted. And everyone we worked with was so darn friendly and respected our opinion. I never felt condescended to like with the other contractors. Special shout out to Kayla and Shannon who made friends with our kiddo, our duckos, and all the curious neighbors. They were a joy to have around! read more

I had some plumbing work to be done and AmyWorks was able to get the work thoroughly completed. It did take longer than I expected and was more expensive than I thought the jobs would be. The worker (Florin I believe his name was) pulled out the kitchen sink when all that was assessed by my home inspector was to simply clean / seal leaks, tighten various compression nuts or replace rubber ring gaskets. I eventually wanted to replace the sink anyways so I just went with it. He also was able to do on-the-fly soldering of copper tubing to replace / install the water heater's TPRV (Temperature Pressure Relief Valve) and drain tube. The experience cost more time and money for me but I am overall very impressed with AmyWork's professional services. I would employ their services again but be more mindful of the time. read more

I had the pleasure of working with handywoman, Grace for five hours. She assisted with the following projects: Mirror Mounting, placement and mounting of pictures, putting a new shower head, creative hanging of art in my living room, and assembly of a metal kitchen rack. I was super excited about hiring Amy Works to finish a bunch of random projects around my house. Susan came out to give me an estimate on a Tuesday morning... she was prompt, she was friendly, and helpful. I was very optimistic. She told me she would have an estimate for me by the end of the day or at the latest the following day. First thing to understand is that everyone and their brother/sister are doing remodels so that materials are not only harder to come by, prices of raw materials has risen, according to some, 40% in the last 6 months. I can honestly say that, despite what I have written above, the process of our remodel has gone extremely smoothly, competently and well. The crews, and again one needs to understand that many aspects of the remodel are done by subcontractors, have all been competent and affable. Our remodel is almost on time, and this was in large part due to the presence of very old (Knob and Tube) electrical wiring that needed to be dealt with. Both Susan and Sheila were very responsive to questions and issues as they arose ( and if you are doing a remodel and no issues arise, then I would submit you are not doing a remodel!!) So, yes, I would recommend AmyWorks on our experience, and more telling, I would use them again if we needed similar work in the future. As an addendum, I want to add how Mudworx ( a subcontractor ) and specifically Tommy and Troy, went above and beyond in painting our new rec room. Both capable, amicable and professional. AmyWorks has done work for us at our current home at at our rental home. Their work is consistently awesome! Their knowledge of all things handy is extensive. They are super trustworthy and gets things stuff done much faster than my husband and I can. The work we've had done ranges from painting to electrical to plumbing. It's all been top notch work. We recently referred AmyWorks to good friends who had a long to do list after having their second child. My friend called me and said, "That was the best $250 I ever spent." AmyWorks did a bunch of stuff for them related to lights, windows, mirrors, hanging things up, fixing things.... We now just keep a running list of things to have AmyWorks come out and do for us. I have a 950 square foot condo that had the original wall to wall carpet from the 1990's. I'd always wanted wood flooring but was unsure of where to even begin. Amy came and took a look and agreed to take on the job. She helped me navigate the paperwork needed for condo board approval and was infintely patient when additional documentation was required. In the meantime, she had talked with different suppliers and after asking me questions to help me narrow down my flooring choices, she brought samples to me one day at work to choose. When I finally was able to secure approval, she scheduled the work within the day/hour guidelines requested by my downstairs neighbor. She and her employees were meticulous, fast and took very good care of my home. When furniture was moved, it was always done with great care and when it was moved back over the floors, they placed cardboard and carpet squares under any part of the furniture that came in contact with the floor. Every night the working dust was cleaned and the tools stored so that I could continue to live there that week with minimum disruption. My home had a couple of tricky corners and at one point, she called in a professional contact to help her navigate one paticular area to be sure that the lines of the floor were uninterrupted. The end result is beautiful and the flooring flows without any disruption through all the rooms in the house without a single transition. Awesome! I needed a faucet and supply lines replaced and some drywall finished in a room that I'd gutted and lost the steam to finish. I'd done the bathroom myself, spent hours, and all said and done it looks like a 5 year old did it with playdough. Every time I pee all I can do is stare at the seams you can still see through the paint... Anyway. Amy was great. I had her out for an estimate and asked if she could fix the faucet while she was there. A-OK. The rate on this was standard for a house call. Not cheap but fairly priced. The folks she sent out to do the drywall were terrific! Two different subcontractors - both pleasant, helpful, friendly and professional. The work they did was excellent. Joe, who taped and mudded the drywall did an INCREDIBLE job! Like I mentioned I was in a hurry on it so told him that I'd sand it myself and I barely had to knock any edges off at all. Because I like learning how to fix things in my home, she also took the time to teach me and show me how things worked and why they were broken, which I greatly appreciated. Amy is awesome. She came by this morning to diagnose our kitchen sink faucet, which had annoyingly stopped actually producing hot water. I thought we might have to replumb or something, but she fixed it quickly. She also assessed a leak in our bathroom by pulling the toilet and replacing the wax ring (she added a couple of extras to account for some less than perfect tile work previously done by some crappy contractor.) Finally, she reinstalled the ducting for our bathroom fan which had become disconnected in our attic space. Quick, efficient, friendly and effective. So disappointing. We were excited to find a woman-owned company that was so highly rated on Yelp and Angie's List. I was looking for somebody to bring in for a series of smaller projects, probably once every six weeks or so. I called and got a reply the very next day, along with an email confirming our conversation. Great! I responded as requested with a specific list of projects, everything from hanging magazine racks to installing new shelves. And then...nothing. No email. No call. I've called back four or five times, emailed twice, and I get nothing. It's been four weeks now and I can't raise anybody. I had a horrible experience working with AmyWorks! I contacted AmyWorks back in April or May to get an estimate for our kitchen remodel. They sent Susan (I believe) out to do the estimate. Overall she was very pleasant and seemed knowledgeable - that was not the problem. While she was at our home, she gave us a verbal estimate range that was within the ball park we wanted to spend. To proceed, she informed us that we would need to pay them $500 to provide a full detailed quote so we could start towards hiring them. I should have known not to give over any money, but we wanted to hire them. After paying them the money it took a few days from them to come back with the quote and we were astounded to receive a quote that was $18,000 MORE THAN HER ORIGINAL ESTIMATES! My husband and I spent many weeks trying to work with Susan and Amy on the quote (even trying to take out work that we wanted them to do to fit within our budget), but every time we found a way to cut costs they would add in a new line item. It became ridiculous and we had to walk away. I really feel like they tricked us and would never recommend working with them. read more

At first I was super happy with the initial service I received switching out a bad transformer in my light fixture. Till it blew out right away. When I hired an actual electrician I was told that the transformer put in was too small for the power of the fixture. When I called AmyWorks for compensation for unsatisfactory work, they passed blame on to the electric supply shop for selling the wrong part. I think the handyman was in over his head and was also to blame for being ignorant to what was really needed to fix my lights. I should have just hired an electrician to begin with. read more

I called AmyWorks based on positive reviews from Angie's List. I had several small carpentry repairs. The young lady that was sent was courteous and pleasant. The work just was not satisfactory. I asked that a chair be repaired. The gluing was bad and there was little attempt to properly align the gluing to the original to make a clean repair. Part of the repair for a door jamb was to replace the weather-stripping. The carpenter brought the incorrect weather-stripping. I was asked to find the correct weather-stripping and install it myself. When I scheduled a call back, the carpenter did not show up. read more

I've hired four Handyman services since moving to West Seattle and Amyworks is the best. Certainly not the cheapest, but you get what you pay for. For the money invested, an excellent value. On separate occasions, we had Amy, Susan and/or someone from their crew remove and replace rotten deck boards (Susan's lines are laser sharp and she drills them by hand). They also replaced our sagging front stairs (pictures uploaded), assembled and cemented a new security mailbox and did some general to do list items. Most important service -- annual vacuum of the dryer vents and a check of the washing machine hoses. Patience is a virtue when scheduling, they are pretty good for projects needed within 7 to 14 days but have also shown up quick when needed. Most contractors worth their salt are very busy these days and worth waiting for within a reasonable amount of time -- I almost wonder about anyone who can be there within an hour. read more

I don't know when I've been so happy to part with $210. I saw Kim across the street working on some projects for a neighboring house. She had been a foreman for Habitat for Humanity. I have a running list of projects that I know will take me a little while. I approached Kim and asked her about a few different projects. She came over and checked them out. She came back and started tackling my list. Here's what I got for $210: 1. Installed a new light fixture. The house was built in 1911, and I swear, the fixture was original. So it was a little tricky. 2. Went to Lowe's (combined my trip with another, I think). She got a new fan for the upstairs bathroom, but ended up somehow fixing it without having to use the new one she bought (so she'll return the one to Lowe's. Bonus! I hate returns). 3. Fixed an outlet. 4. Figured out how to fix my prehistoric downstairs bathroom fan, and told me where to go to get a certain part (and offered that she could do it if I wanted...tempting). 5. Installed the ironing board/iron holder in an area I thought was only drywall. 6. Installed a shelf. 7. Mounted a mirror. 8. Helped me install a door lock. I also got an estimate for another few future projects, and absolutely no pressure. Kim worked very hard and fast. She was knowledgeable, capable, friendly, and candid. I found Amy Works after a really bad experience with another contractor. Not only were they able to swoop in and save the day, their expansive knowledge and skill-set continued to amaze me. All in all they repaired and replaced portions of my hardwood floors, finished a tricky drywall project involving coved ceilings, finished a large tiling project, cut a countertop, installed a sink and fixed the plumbing. They are trustworthy, clean and most of all, work hard! They put in a full day's work which is rare for a contractor. I highly recommend Amyworks! read more

I was too lazy to re-caulk my own bathtub, so I e-mailed AmyWorks and they got back to me ASAP. The office manager was totally upfront and professional, and explained their rates clearly, without any fussing around. They sent someone within 2 days, and they came right on time. Diana did a great job with the caulking and also gave me a mini-lesson on what I should know if I want to do it myself next time. I also had a couple of questions about minor jobs I'm planing for in the near future, and she talked me through it and gave me a rough verbal estimate, which was great, as now I know what at least more or less what to budget for. I will definitely choose AmyWorks to come and help me in the future! As a single lady, I also feel really good about choosing a woman-owned company and female workers. We had our kitchen renovated by AmyWorks - complete overhaul from the studs to the floor, including removal of a hideous drop ceiling and installation of a sun tunnel. I highly recommend this company. The kitchen turned out beautifully and came in on time and on budget. The project manager Susan kept everything running smoothly. She coordinated the various AmyWorks employees as well as the subcontractors (painter, plumber, electrician) and communicated scheduling and project updates by text and email. It's a hassle to be without a kitchen for several weeks, but the process was as painless as possible (not like the nightmare stories I've heard from friends). If you do a kitchen renovation, I also suggest an Instant Pot and an induction burner so you can still have a few warm meals - take-out gets old really fast! read more
