We've always loved Anchor bar, despite the wait. This time was different. We waited for a table even though there was plenty of seating available. But, we understood, staff was probably short. It's happening everywhere. As we were walked to our table the hostess walked to a particular table and just stood there, not saying anything then just simply walked off without acknowledging us. We had to walk over to her and ask if this was our table. She responded yes. It was just strange. We were greeted promptly by the waiter asking if we were here to eat. I guess that wasnt expected because we weren't sitting at the bar. We thought, well yeah...We ordered and waited a while for drinks and placed our order. The food came out cold. Soon after, we were approached by who we thought was a manager. They offered us a free sampler platter for the wait and asked if the food was okay. We told her the food was cold. So this is the first time I've been to this location, although there have been several restaurants here. Yelp changed all that when I saw this wings specialist's info. Because I am gluten intolerant, and because most wings are fried in a gluten-filled vat of oil, I messaged the owner to ask about his process. He wrote back almost immediately, letting me know that his wings are gluten-free! YAY! Food: I enjoyed the wings very much, and hubby liked my wings better than his burger, so we decided we will definitely return, and we'll order WINGS! I would appreciate a little more variety in sides. Some good, solid veggies would be nice. Roasted veggies like carrots or Brussels sprouts, and maybe some slaw, would be great additions. When they first opened they were an easy 5 star, But now, Please read and you decide on your next visit. Buyer's of the Family Card program beware, check your points on a regular basis, ask your server for the report of your account. Yes, you will get the free pizza after spending $20 in food or soft drinks, but that's it. The $10 credit on the gift card for every $100 spent has been non existent for months now, for many, many folks. Watch out for the up charges on the wings and bites, any extra sauces, it will surely dig a whole in you pocket. Management seems very disorganized and they have a lot of turnover with staff, only a few seasoned team members remain, ( that's huge ). AB is not what it used to be, sorry AB, we must find a replacement until you can right the ship. As far as cleanliness, this has a lot to be desidered as well, the rest rooms are an utter embarrassment, never stocked properly, mirrors are filthy and dust hanging from the exhaust fans. I will order take out from here again. Actual Visit: This place is convenient for me, it has ample parking and is in the same complex as Pick's, Burnhouse, and Lush. My wife got boneless, and got the Honey Bourbon BBQ sauce, which she enjoyed. The one downside, we felt, was the noise level. A-okay restaurant! We went here for dinner last night. This sports bar was very busy so I recommend joining the waitlist on Yelp. It was loud inside with lots of TVs to enjoy sports. Service deserves 5 stars! Our server, Dromonte was prompt, helpful and very efficient. He even offered us to-go drinks at the end of our dinner. The food was okay. We tried the 20 wings with Buffalo lemon pepper and hot flavors and the small pepperoni pizza. The wings were crispy and the pizza was very cheesy. We were surprised by the size of the small pizza! Two people could easily share it. What we were shocked by was the bill. For wings and pizza we paid over $60! They are currently charging $0.20 extra for wings due to the shortage but even with that not taken into consideration I feel like this restaurant is expensive for what you get. Stopped by anchor bar last Sunday for final meal after a weekend in San Antonio. My overall impression of the sports bar and wing joint is it's a solid spot to enjoy classic bar food and watch a game. The restaurant was respectably busy on a lazy hazy San Antonio Sunday. Our group of 3 was quickly seated by a pleasant hostess. The perimeter of the bar was outlined with spacious booths. Large decorated the walls like paintings. We were seated at a table and a waitress quickly took our drink orders. Beer and food are both cheap- a pleasant surprise . We started by sampling the sauces. I asked for the "suicide" and found it's spice level worthy. It reminded me of wing sauces atomic. It was not killer but only order if you have a palate for spiciness. We stared with some queso and chips. The queso was hot and chips salty. It was a big bowl and plenty for three. Wings and fries then came . Ten wings is plenty for one. They are large chicken wings and not overly crispy. Wings are my favorite food and these wings were very good. The sauce content was appropriate as well. Cool ranch dipping sauce completed the wings well. the fries come in their own little basket and are well seasoned with a spicy seasoning. They were clearly just removed from the fryer and piping hot- which is always appreciated. We also got a large pepperoni pizza; however, the server admittedly forgot to place the order in the kitchen. Thus, it came out about 15 minutes our wings and fries and was slightly undercooked. It was a simple and cheap large cheese pizza. It is a nice change of pace from the spicy wings. Our server apologized but did not comp the pizza. I like anchor bar and appreciate the ode to the Buffalo NY roots as detailed in the menu. Safe bet to come if your craving no frills bar food. read more

We were sat immediately and our server (Christine) was extremely knowledgeable, professional and attentive. The wings come in Snack size (5), Single (10), Double (20) and Platter (50). We wanted to have a big birthday party for a family member in the San Antonio area and reached out to Anchor Bar to have it there. Luckily, we spoke with Lisa, the manager, who was absolutely fantastic to work with. She listened to what we wanted, made suggestions, showed us the area they would dedicate to our group, and basically planned everything out with us. The day of the party, we arrived from out of town, walked into the restaurant, and everything was exactly as Lisa said it would be. We were able to decorate as we planned and it looked great. Lisa assigned two servers - Abe and Reese - to our group. They, too, were outstanding. Friendly, welcoming, and completely committed to ensuring our group had a great time. The pizzas and wing platters were brought out quickly, and they were hot and fresh. The food at Anchor Bar is great and today was no exception. Best wings of any wing place in my opinion.
