For the past 6-7 years, Andies was our Friday night takeout go-to. Losing that tradition when we moved to Berwyn has honestly been one of the hardest parts of leaving the neighborhood. Devastating, in fact. Six years. Every (almost, be real people) Friday. That's a lot of chicken kabobs. We would usually order the grilled chicken kabob plate... nicely grilled, well-seasoned chicken with a rotating cast of vegetables. Sometimes onions, peppers, and zucchini; other times tomatoes and yellow squash. Whatever showed up, it was always good. It also comes with soup. I always go for the lentil soup, while my husband is firmly committed to the lemon and rice soup. If I can somehow find the time to go back to school for engineering, physics, and whatever other disciplines are required to invent a reliable instant transportation device; likely involving advanced mathematics, several Nobel-level breakthroughs in quantum mechanics, and probably a massive dedicated team of researchers; then I should theoretically be able to solve the problem of getting dinner delivered the 11 miles from Andersonville to Berwyn without it taking approximately 4 days, 23 hours, and 45 minutes in Chicago traffic (I route I've done too many times while moving). Question for Andies: if you have to physically place the dinners into the transport device, would I still be charged the delivery fee? Just trying to think through the logistics here. read more

For soup we tried the Lentil and am not 100% sure on the other, it had rice and chicken - pretty good. Overall though it was just ok, the flavors didn't wow me. In person it may be better! read more

I had a wonderful experience dining in at Andie's on a quiet Thursday evening in September. There were very few people in the restaurant despite prime dinner time which surprised me considering how good this place ended up being. There was ambient dim lighting with lit candles and open air coming in from the nice warm day - very romantic. The service was fast and attentive, and the menu had a lot of tempting options but I settled on the Mediterranean light pasta while my boyfriend got the curry chicken couscous, and both came with delicious sides of either lemon chicken or lentil soup. Both were fantastic. We also had dolmates for an appetizer and I'd highly recommend. I just love this Mediterranean place. It's nice and cozy and the food is so good. On this night, we came to try their vegan dishes, and we were not disappointed as always they served great food. I had the Moraccan Eggplant served with Dill rice, my favorite of course and lentil soup. My wife tried the Portabello & Lentil with Dill rice as well and lemon soup. First time in a long time that I've been to a Mediterranean restaurant. I am not the biggest fan but I will say their Pita Bread was really good, it comes warm and soft to the table. Our server was really kind, and attentive. For my entree I had the Trio sampler I believe, the highlight of the dish was the chicken and dill rice I chose as my side. I think for someone who enjoys Mediterranean food this would be a great place to try. For me, Andies is an alright Mediterranean restaurant if you need somewhere that's large and not too noisy with a good number of options available. This is location conveniently on a street with plenty of shopping, entertainment, bar, and other dining options nearby. Service is quick and efficient, and decor is fairly nice. Unfortunately, there's nothing special about the food. While it's served in large portions, I feel like there's fast casual options I'd rather go for over the food I had here. The lentil soup is warm with a nice consistency and provides a hearty option for the cold chicago winters. The Greek salad comes with nice crispy lettuce and a light flavored dressing. The gyro meat in the gyros platter was a bit underseasoned and not seared on the edges. The meat was soft, but not juicy. This did not have much synergy when mixed with the raw onion and tomato, probably since the tzatziki sauce had barely any flavor. The chianti braised short rib gave a sense of comfort food although the overcooked short rib detracted from the enjoyment of the dish. The amount of meat provided was fairly generous though. The carrots, spinach, onions, and green beans in red wine was a light accompaniment to the dish and didn't do much to help flavor the meat. The curry vegetable couscous was overpowered by too much curry powder which hid the flavor of the sauteed onions and peppers. The cous cous felt a bit undercooked which gave the dish a slight gritty texture. Overall, not a bad place for a social gathering. The food was alright but a bit light in flavor and could have had better textures. read more

My family and I have eaten at Andy for years, we've also had it delivered but this is my first review. The food is excellent, I've had just about everything on the menu. The service and staff are the best, and it always on top of everything. In the summertime when they open the windows, the ambience is nice. Outside of the staffing issues that plague this place and many others like this place, overall this spot is fantastic and I can only go by my food experiences here even though you will see reviews on this yelp thread that talk about inconsistency. So far I've been nothing but happy...Yes the place will be empty and you will still wait to be seated due to one or two waiters on the job...oh well, it is what it is...At least they don't over seat the dining room and then work the 2 waiters to death and give bad service. On to the food...Everything I've had here has been fantastic...From the kebab skewers of different meats to the gyros platter to the little lamb spring rolls with ginger honey sauce and the soups and baklava...All delicious, well prepared and hitting all the right spots. We have been long time customers of Andies, just never got around to doing a review for them. I have always enjoyed my meals there and that is why it was a go to place for our Xmas Eve dinner. Our family has been getting together with friends for Xmas Eve for the last 20 years. We always go to different restaurants: initially it was the Signature Room for dinner after spending the afternoon on the 95th floor for drinks. But as our group expanded from 3 to 20 people at times, we had to shift gears and find places to accommodate us. Fast forward to this year with COVID. Not only were we not going out to eat, but definitely were not going to be hanging out with that many people. But we still wanted to do our Xmas Eve thing. I was looking around for something to order so I would not have to cook and one of the two people we had invited over was not a big fan of Italian (so no Calo's). So I took a look at Andies catering menu. Since it was only going to be five of us, I ordered the Andies Classic Pack for $59.95. This serves 5-6 People and for the price, it is an amazing and tasty deal. The pack came with Chicken Kabob, Chicken Kefta, Beef and Lamb Kefta, Shawerma, Hummus, Greek Salad with Greek Dressing, Basmati Rice, Tzatziki with house made yogurt sauce and a dozen Pita (served warm and cut in half). I love the food here and I am telling you, this is good value for the money. In addition to this pack, I also ordered the spinach pies and the Dolma (a favorite of The Doctor and The Queen). Folks there was plenty of food, so much that we had left overs. Unfortunately I did not take any photos of the food before dug into it, but the picture below was the left overs after we all had eaten. They also offer a chicken kabob and gyro pack for $99.95 and $95 for 10 people, so I am guessing you could feed 15 based on what we got. This a great place to order to meet everyone's needs: meat lovers, chicken, lamb, vegetarians, they have it all. Definitely will consider ordering from here again the next time I have a "party". read more

Slowly getting back to normal life, we ventured to Andies. Bear in mind that we'd not been for ages. The restaurant décor was the same except for a colorful, lighthearted bird mobile in the center of the restaurant. As one dips their toe back into the restaurant scene, what was nice as well was a number of tables at the front with open windows. We felt comfortable. But what about the food? What about the service? Andies always had a shining personality and they still do. They always had good service and they still do. Before, the food was goodish; now, based on what we had on our last visit, it's reached very goodish status. From cocktail to appetizer to entrée to dessert all was very, very enjoyable. The martini cocktail was called 'Don't Mess With Me'--extremely well-crafted. Ordering off the special menu, I had the mint pea soup (almost clear broth with supporting ingredients), bass with pistachio crust (moist fish, tasty and a subtle add-in with the pistachio), and cheesecake with graham cracker crust. Asked the server for advice on the cheesecake--he didn't offer an 'everything's good'. He offered past reactions of those who ordered it. Hoping for a great ending to the meal, I took the chance of having lame, boring cheesecake, but ended up with a final wonderful treat for the evening. As a business professional myself, I cringe every time I witness or encounter a front line employee doing something stupid that ultimately causes the establishment to lose money and customers. Last night, my lady friend and I arrived around 8:20 pm. There was literally two of us. This establishment was about 70-75% empty. We were meant by the hostess, she asked if we had reservations? We informed the hostess that we did not have reservations, but asked if it was needed. The hostess informed us that their establishment normally only takes reservations... We looked around and literally saw 70-75% of the restaurant clear with open and clean tables, therefore, we were little confused. In addition, the establishment was scheduled to close at 10pm, which was about a 100 minutes away. Was the establishment expecting a rush of people to come in during this time??? I am not sure, it clearly made zero sense. Nevertheless, we asked how long before we could get a table, the hostess informed us that it would be about 20 to 25 minutes. Really? Okay, we took a seat directly in front of the host stand, but immediately started to call other restaurants in the vicinity. The first restaurant I called was an establishment named Fiya (which was actually busy, we saw this with our own eyes as we walked by). Fiya informed us that they would seat a party of two immediately, therefore, we walked out of this establishment and took our business to Fiya. I must state, the hostess was very kind and professional, but clearly and sadly caused a negative impact on this establishment. When in doubt, always seek management approval if you do not have the authority to do something. We should have been seated and taken care of immediately. This was our first and lasting impression of this establishment... There's plenty of restaurants in Chicago, we will never return. Lastly, there is a restaurant next door by the name of Rezar's, I highly recommend it. read more

So we made a last minute reservation for Valentine's Day here. We have done it before because the restaurant feels like a special occasion for us. They were very short staffed (only 2 servers for the whole restaurant) and they very apologetically informed us there would be a wait even with the reservation and the reason why. More often than not, that would have put us off staying, but we were looking forward to the evening, so we waited probably about 15 minutes. And also, COVID has taught us to be more patient. Definitely worth it. Our server was so great. Making recommendations when asked, attentive without hovering, we didn't feel like they were short staffed. Started with Saganaki, of course, which is a must - served with a flame and flourish and a full-hearted "Opa!" Complimentary soup was offered for waiting. Both of us had the lemon chicken and rice which was warming on a cold evening. Our entrees were chosen with great guidance from the server: Tunisian Chicken and Artichoke and the salmon and shrimp dish. Both were just what we needed for a wintery special occasion dinner: hearty and plentiful. Finished off with sharing the tasty baklava and the most amazing Turkish coffee served in delicate Demitasse cups with deep, bold rich flavor. Please patronize this Andersonville staple. Stopped in here after deciding that we needed some sustenance, as we were drained from our day traipsing around, holiday shopping in Andersonville. It was the perfect spot. We shared the dip sampler platter (hummus, harissa, baba ganoush, and potato dip) and artichoke hearts with olives. Everything was fine. The pita was plentiful. I was also really surprised to see a mocktail section on the menu. It's possible we didn't get the full experience, as it was sort of an awkward non-meal time, and everything was perfectly pleasant, I'm just not sure I'm excited to rush back and try other things on the menu, but only because the list of places I want to go is really long. I'm a big fan of Andies. They are a great go-to spot for dine-in, delivery, and carry-out. Per a recent dine-in experience, I was reaffirmed with my appreciation for this spot. Hummas- on point and so fresh. Baba Ganoush- delicious! Falafel- very small and crispy Tabouleh- yum! Veggie Mousakka- huge portion!! Spinach pie- quite enjoyable. Veggie combo plates- great value and perfect for vegetarians with all kinds of food interest. Finally- the pita is just so addicting. You cannot stop putting hand to mouth! Andie's staff worked to remake our order and get it to us quickly. Props to the staff and manager for making it right! Food was yummy plus. Babaganoush was stellar, as always. Our group of four recently enjoyed dinner at Andies in Andersonville, have not been here in years! They have a diverse Mediterranean menu, including Lebanese, Greek, Turkish and Moroccan dishes. We tried appetizers including falafel, hummus, spinach pie, and the excellent crunchy burek rolls with tasty dipping sauce. My main course was the saucy lamb osso buco with green beans and polenta. I also tried my friends' selections including pomegranate chicken, biryani rice and couscous. Our helpful server brought out a tray of dessert selections, so we chose flan, tiramisu and baklava to complete our meals. Lots of good eating this evening! read more

After many years, we decided to give Andies another try. Hubby got a gyros sandwich deluxe and I got their braised short ribs with mashed potatoes and veggies. Also got an order of hummus. The gyros was average, but okay and certainly the portion was decent. My short ribs were okay as well, though there was a slight bitter taste to it. I will try and doctor up my leftovers. There was plenty of food, but it was all piled into one of those round aluminum containers. with no attempt to separate the ingredients. It looked more like stew. As for the hummus, it was absolutely tasteless. If I didn't know it was supposed to be hummus, I would never had guessed. Very disappointing. Delivery was prompt and packaging was good (except for mushing my short rib dinner together. I don't mean to sound harsh, but when you spend between 40 to 50 bucks for something you feel is "meh" and you have such fond memories of Andies when they first opened ..... well, one must speak up. read more

I've eaten at Andies off and on for many years. I was introduced to the best moussaka (eggplant) that I have ever eaten to this day. This was when Andies was just a tiny restaurant. They just don't have the same quality of food anymore. I love their dill rice and baba ganoush. But I simply got a skewer of grilled chicken and the chicken was like rubber. This is a basic dish that should be tender and juicy. And the music was elevator music. Play some middle Easter music that fits the food but not elevator music.
